Effects of microalgae chlorella species crude extracts on intestinal adaptation in experimental short bowel syndrome

AIM： To evaluate the effects of chlorella crude extract （CCE） on intestinal adaptation in rats subjected to short bowel syndrome （SBS）. METHODS： Wistar rats weighing 230-260 g were used in the study. After anesthesia a 75% small bowel resection was performed. Rats were randomized and divided into groups. Control group （n = 10）： where 5% dextrose was given through a gastrostomy tube, Enteral nutrition （EN） group （n = 10）： Isocaloric and isonitrogen EN （Alitraq, Abbott, USA）, study group （n = 10）： CCE was administrated through a gastrostomy tube. Rats were sacrificed on the fifteenth pcstoperative day and blood and tissue samples were taken. Histopathologic evaluation, intestinal mucosal protein and DNA levels, intestinal proliferation and apoptosis were determined in intestinal tissues, and total protein, albumin and citrulline levels in blood were studied. RESULTS： In rats receiving CCE, villus lengthening, crypt depth, mucosal DNA and protein levels, intestinal proliferation, and serum citrulline, protein and albumin levels were found to be significantly higher than those in control group. Apoptosis in CCE treated rats was significantly reduced when compared to EN group rats. CONCLUSION： CCE has beneficial effects on intestinal adaptation in experimental SBS.

Adipokines and ghrelin in gastric cancer cachexia

AIM:To investigate the roles of the adipocytokines,ghrelin and leptin in gastric cancer cachexia. METHODS:Resistin,ghrelin,leptin,adiponectin,insulin and insulin-like growth factor(IGF-Ⅰ),were measured in 30 healthy subjects,and 60 gastric cancer patients of which 30 suffered from cancer-induced cachexia and 30 served as a control group. The relationships between hormones,body mass index(BMI) loss ratio,age,gender,and Glasgow Prognostic Score(GPS) were investigated. RESULTS:Cachexia patients had higher tumor stage and GPS when compared with non-cachexia patients(P < 0.05). Ghrelin,resistin,leptin,adiponectin and IGF-Ⅰ,showed a significant correlation with BMI loss ratio and GPS(P < 0.05). A strong correlation was seen between GPS and BMI loss(R = -0.570,P < 0.0001). Multivariate analysis indicated that BMI loss was significantly independent as a predictor of ghrelin,resistin,leptin and IGF-Ⅰ(P < 0.05). Existence of an important significant relationship between resistin and insulin resistance was also noted. CONCLUSION:These results showed that serum ghrelin,leptin,adiponectin,and IGF-Ⅰ play important roles in cachexia-related gastric cancers. No relationshipwas found between resistin and cancer cachexia. Also,because of the correlation between these parameters and GPS,these parameters might be used as a predictor factor.

Automated evaluation of parapapillary choroidal microvasculature in crowded optic discs:a controlled,optical coherence tomography angiography study

AIM:To compare superficial and deep vascular properties of optic discs between crowded discs and controls using optical coherence tomography angiography(OCT-A).METHODS:Thirty patients with crowded discs,and 47 control subjects were enrolled in the *** eye of each individual was included and OCT-A scans of optic discs were obtained in a 4.5×4.5 mm^(2) rectangular *** peripapillary capillary(RPC)density,peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer(pRNFL)thickness,cup volume,rim area,disc area,cup-to-disc(c/d)area ratio,and vertical c/d ratio were obtained automatically using device *** parapapillary choroidal microvasculature(PPCMv)density was calculated using MATLAB *** the vertical c/d ratio of the optic disc was absent or small cup,it was considered as a crowded ***:The mean signal strength index of OCT-A images was similar between the crowded discs and control eyes(P=0.740).There was no difference in pRNFL between the two groups(P=0.102).There were no differences in RPC density in whole image(P=0.826)and peripapillary region(P=0.923),but inside disc RPC density was higher in crowded optic discs(P=0.003).The PPCMv density in the inner-hemisuperior region was also lower in crowded discs(P=0.026).The pRNFL thickness was positively correlated with peripapillary RPC density(r=0.498,P<0.001).The inside disc RPC density was negatively correlated with c/d area ratio(r=-0.341,P=0.002).CONCLUSION:The higher inside disc RPC density and lower inner-hemisuperior PPCMv density are found in eyes with crowded optic discs.

Contaminants of Emerging Concern(CECs)are human-made chemicals that remain *** continuous detection of CECs in aquatic ecosystems,due to their incomplete removal,emphasizes the importance of understanding their fate and impact on the environment and human *** detrimental effects of CECs on marine eukaryotes are well documented in multiple ***,their impact on marine bacteria and their biodegradation by these organisms are not well *** this study,two marine bacteria,Priestia sp.35 ODPABA G14 and Rhodococcus sp.23 AHTN G14,previously isolated from submarine sediments,were *** two strains were tested for their resistance as well as their capacity to degrade different classes of hydrophobic and hydrophilic CECs,including synthetic musks,UV filters,pesticides and *** strains showed high resistance to all of the hydrophobic tested CECs even up to 500 mg L^(-1).Only Ketoprofen was toxic to bacterial cells,particularly to Rhodococcus *** at concentration as low as 4 mg L^(-1).Furthermore,Priestia *** Rhodococcus *** exhibited high biodegradation potential,especially for hydrophobic *** this may not apply to all pollutants,the data presented in this study suggest a positive correlation between marine bacterial resistance to CECs and their high biodegradation potentials.

Agenesis of the dorsal pancreas

Developmental anomalies of the pancreas have been reported but dorsal pancreatic agenesis is an extremely rare entity. We report an asymptomatic 62-year-old woman with complete agenesis of the dorsal pancreas. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed a normal pancreatic head, but pancreatic body and tail were not visualized. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings were similar to CT. At magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), the major pancreatic duct was short and the dorsal pancreatic duct was not visualized. The final diagnosis was dorsal pancreatic agenesis.

Benthic foraminiferal assemblages from the Safranbolu Formation(Cuisian,Eocene),Northwest Anatolia,Turkey

Twenty-one outcrop samples collected from a 28-m-thick section from the Safranbolu Formation of the southwestern part of the Safranbolu Basin,Anatolia,Turkey yielded well-preserved benthic foraminifera belonging mainly to the genera Alveolina,Nummulites,Assilina,Rotalia,Disclocyclina and *** is the most diversified genus that is represented by sixteen species:Alveolina archiaci,***,***,***,***,***,***,***,***,***,***,*** gueroli,***,***,*** and *** safranboluensis and *** are described *** of the fossil assemblage with those assemblages previously reported from both Turkey and other Tethyan sub-basins revealed that the deposition occurred during the Cuisian(Eocene)and corresponded to Shallow Benthic Foraminiferal Zones(SBFZ)10–*** abundance and diversity of the larger benthic foraminifera indicated that the Safranbolu Formation was deposited under transgressive conditions.

Pollen Morphology of Acinos Miller Species Growing in Turkey

The pollen morphology of six taxa of the genus Acinos Miller has been examined under scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and a description of each taxon has been given. Acinos pollen is stephanocolpate （hexacolpate）. Two main exine sculpturing types, foveolate-reticulate （only in subspecies of A. troodi） and reticulate have been defined. The dimension for the polar length ranges between 25.8-47.4 μm, equatorial width 24.5-34.4μm, colpus length 20.0-40.5μm and colpus width 1.2-2.5 μm. The shape is mostly subprolate to prolate, seldomly prolate-spheroidal. The results reveal rather uniform morphological features, however fine details are characteristic to differentiate the pollen taxa. Acinos pollen also share some common morphological features with the other Lamiaceae pollen.

Efects of Die Corner Radius and Temperature on the Formability of AA7075-T6 Alloy

This study focused on the formability of aluminium alloy（7075-T6） sheets through hydroforming route. Formability of these sheets was tested using a warm forming setup at three diferent temperatures and four diferent die corner radii. Forming limit diagrams（FLD） were generated by measuring the grids of the sheet formed. The results show that the forming limit of AA7075-T6 can be significantly improved when the blank was heated to 140–250℃. It was also observed that as the temperature increases above 140℃, dome height began to decrease. Also the results indicated that both the die corner radius and temperature have a significant efect on the stress-strain curve and warm forming of AA7075-T6 sheets. Thus, with the temperature increased from room temperature（RT） to 140℃, the flow stress decreased and the strain increased, hence, the formability is enhanced. However, further increase in temperature causes decreases the flow stress and strain. Similar changes of the flow curve were seen in die corner radius. Decreasing the die corner radius decreases the flow stress and increase the strain. Moreover, an equation was obtained by establishing correlations between the experimental parameters and their results. In this way, it became possible to make predictions.

Global existence and decay of solutions for the generalized bad Boussinesq equation

In this paper, we consider the global existence of solutions for the Cauchy problem of the generalized sixth order bad Boussinesq equation. Moreover, we show that the supremum norm of the solution decays algebraically to zero as （1 ＋ t）-（1/7） when t approaches to infinity, provided the initial data are sufficiently small and regular.
