Risk Factors and Diabetes Related Complications Frequency in the Population of the Northeastern Morocco

Objectives: Diabetes is one of the most challenging health problems in the 21st century that brings a considerable economic burden on worldwide healthcare resources. Indeed, people with diabetes have a higher lifetime healthcare expenditure due to the long-term complications, which include micro and macrovascular complications. This study sought to estimate the frequency of diabetes complications, and to investigate the associated risk factors. Methodology: Data were obtained from the medical records of 2401 diabetic patients followed at the Reference Center of Diabetes and Chronic Diseases (RCD) in Oujda (Morocco) during the period 2006-2011. Results: Our sample of 2401 diabetic patients include 64.7% women. 32% of patients have one or more complications;retinopathy is the most frequent complication (16.8%), followed by nephropathy (12.4%), cardiovascular diseases (5.4%), neuropathy (3.6%) and diabetes foot (2%). Logistic regression in univariate followed by multivariate analysis has showed that age, duration of diabetes and high albuminuria are the major risk factors for the development of diabetic complications in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Conclusions: Nearly one third of diabetic patients were affected by at least one diabetic complication;retinopathy is the most common complication in these patients. Strengthening programs to improve diabetes management and to reduce the risk of these complications should be a high priority in order to control the cost of treatment.

Detection of Impending Vehicle Rollover with Road Bank Angle Consideration Using a Robust Fuzzy Observer

This article describes a method of vehicle dynamics estimation for impending rollover detection. We estimate vehicle dynamic states in presence of the road bank angle as a disturbance in the vehicle model using a robust observer. The estimated roll angle and roll rate are used to compute the rollover index which is based on the prediction of the lateral load transfer. In order to anticipate rollover detection, a new method is proposed to compute the time to rollover(TTR) using the load transfer ratio(LTR). The nonlinear model, deduced from the vehicle lateral and roll dynamics, is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. This representation is used to account for the nonlinearities of lateral cornering forces. The proposed T-S observer is designed with unmeasurable premise variables to cater for non-availability of the slip angles measurement. The proposed approach is evaluated using Car Sim simulator under different driving scenarios. Simulation results show good efficiency of the proposed T-S observer and the rollover detection method.

A linear quadratic regulator control of a stand-alone PEM fuelcell power plant

This paper introduces a technique based on linear quadratic regulator （LQR） to control the output voltage at the load point versus load variation from a stand- alone proton exchange membrane （PEM） fuel cell power plant （FCPP） for a group housing use. The controller modifies the optimal gains ki by minimizing a cost function, and the phase angle of the AC output voltage to control the active and reactive power output from an FCPP to match the terminal load. The control actions are based on feedback signals from the terminal load, output voltage and fuel cell feedback current. The topology chosen for the simulation consists of a 45 kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell （PEMFC）, boost type DC/ DC converter, a three-phase DC/AC inverter followed by an LC filter. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategy operated at low commutation frequency （2 kHz） offers good performances versus load variations with low total harmonic distortions （THD）, which is very useful for high power applications.

New Inequalities of Qi Type

In this paper, the author studies fractional integral inequalities which provide explicit bounds on unknown functions. By applying the Riemann-Liouville integral operator to some functions defined on the positive real axis, the author establishes sufficient conditions to generate some new fractional integral inequalities of Qi type and finally gives two main results： in the first one, the author uses only functions of independent variables; but in the second one, the author uses functions of independent variables combined with some positive functions. It is to note that in this paper, some interested classical integral inequalities can be deduced as some special cases of the paper＇s results. In order to illustrate a possible practical use of these results, in the last section of the paper, the author applies the proposed inequalities to the Bagley-Torvik equation which arises in modeling the motion of a rigid plate immersed in a Newtonian fluid. Some other examples that arise in applications are also presented.

Effect of Inlet Velocity on the Crude Oil Coking and Gas Phase Formation in a Straight Pipe

A comparative numerical study is conducted to evaluate the effect of inlet velocity on the gas-liquid-solid phase change, the separation of phases and the coke formation. The numerical procedure is constructed within the Eulerian framework in which the liquid phase is treated as a continuous phase while gas and solid are both considered as dispersed phases. The simplified reaction net of crude oil is used in order to predict the thermal cracking of the crude oil. The temperature distribution, flow field, liquid–gas phase separation, and coke formation are predicted and discussed for different inlet velocities. The information predicted by the CFD model can be utilized in the optimal design of industrial fired furnaces.

Increasing global energy consumption has become an urgent problem as natural energy sources such as oil,gas,and uranium are rapidly running *** into renewable energy sources such as solar energy is being pursued to counter *** energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources,as it has the potential to meet the world’s energy needs *** study aims to develop and evaluate artificial intelligence(AI)models for predicting hourly global *** hyperparameters were optimized using the Broyden-FletcherGoldfarb-Shanno(BFGS)quasi-Newton training algorithm and STATISTICA *** from two stations in Algeria with different climatic zones were used to develop the *** error measurements were used to determine the accuracy of the prediction models,including the correlation coefficient,the mean absolute error,and the root mean square error(RMSE).The optimal support vector machine(SVM)model showed exceptional efficiency during the training phase,with a high correlation coefficient(R=0.99)and a low mean absolute error(MAE=26.5741 Wh/m^(2)),as well as an RMSE of 38.7045 Wh/m^(2) across all ***,this study highlights the importance of accurate prediction models in the renewable energy,which can contribute to better energy management and planning.

The Combination Operator of Information Sources by a New Expressive Matrix

The multi-sensors fusion refers to the synergistic combination of sensory data from multiple sensors to provide more accurate and reliable information. The potential benefits of the Fusion are multi-sensors’ redundancy and extra information acquired. The fusion of redundant information can reduce the overall uncertainty and thus helps to provide information specified more precisely. Several sensors providing redundant information can also be used to increase reliability in the case of error, omission or failure of sensors. The combination operators are exponential and are more complex in terms of calculation;the Dempster-Shafer operator is exponential for more than three (3) information sources?[1] [2]. Our work focuses on the definition of another formulation of this operation, and puts it in a matrix form to illuminate the computational complexity, more precision guaranty and a minimal execution time. We propose to use each information source in a form of a matrix, which contains 0 value in lines that do not contain the masses (m(Ai) = 0) or once m(Ai) is not null (m(Ai) ≠ 0). The use of this expressed matrix attempts to ameliorate Dempster-Shafer operator via initialing either a criterion or criteria sources’ solution, increasing the efficiency of the Dempster-Shafer operator and facilitates the combination among the sources. We evaluate our approach by conducting a case study for showing the effectiveness of this matrix.

A Pseudo Random Number Generator under Windows Using Refined Descriptive Sampling

In this paper, we propose a software component under Windows that generates pseudo random numbers using RDS （Refined Descriptive Sampling） as required by the simulation. RDS is regarded as the best sampling method as shown in the literature. In order to validate the proposed component, its implementation is proposed on approximating integrals. The simulation results from RDS using ＂RDSRnd＂ generator were compared to those obtained using the generator ＂Rnd＂ included in the Pascal programming language under Windows. The best results are given by the proposed software component.

Role of long non-coding RNA in cells: Example of the H19/IGF2 locus

In the past decade, studies of non-coding RNAs increase. Non-coding RNAs are divided in two classes: small and long non-coding RNA. It was shown that long non-coding RNAs regulate expression of 70% of genes. Long non-coding RNAs are involved in several cellular processes like epigenetic regulation, dosage compensation, alternative splicing and stem cells maintenance for example. Misregulations of their expression induce diseases such as developmental syndrome or cancer. In this review, we describe some functions of long non-coding RNA in cells. Furthermore, we study the H19/IGF2 cluster: an imprinted genomic locus located on chromosome 11p15.5. Genomic imprinting allows gene expression from a single allele in a parent-origin-dependent manner. This cluster encode for the first long non-coding RNA identified: H19. In 1990, it was established that H19 functions as a riboregulator. Recently, it was shown that H19 is a precursor of microRNA (hsa-miR-675), and several news transcripts were identified at the H19/IGF2 locus. So, the complexity of this locus increasing, in this review, we summarize our current understanding about the H19/IGF2 cluster both in terms of transcription as well as in terms of functions in cells. We highlight the involvement of H19, its new antisense transcript 91H and its microRNA, in the regulation of IGF receptor function and in cell cycle progression.

Insights into Three-Dimensional Radiofrequency Circuits Connections

The authors state briefly the possibility of various simulators to handle propagation of electromagnetic waves along some interconnections, in 3D RF （Radio Frequency） circuits. The studies are first derived in the time domain： a Finite-Difference Time-Domain method is applied, taking spectra via FFTs （Fast Fourier Transform） as post-processors. Electric and magnetic field distributions, pulse propagations along stripline structures or vias are highlighted. The scattering parameters for various cases are extracted and compared. Some original issue of this work is an insight on crosstalk or shielding phenomena between lines.
