Estimating Ecological Characteristics and Carbon Stock in Uneven-Aged Plantations of Acacia senegal L. in the Savannah Woodlands of Sudan

The aim of this study was to assess Acacia senegal trees’ characteristics as well as evaluate the carbon stock under a variety of ages in the El Demokeya forest in Sudan, where the Gum Arabic belt is located. 12 sample plots, in 2021 were randomly distributed to represent the entire area of the forest prior to the required measurements. The sample was designed as squire plots with one hectare. In each sample plot, all trees were counted, their height (m), and Diameters Breast Height (DBH in cm), respectively. The results showed the highest number of trees per ha at age 20 years old and the lowest number at age 47 years, while the highest values of DBH and volume were found at age 47 years old. As a result, the maximum and minimum values of the aboveground biomass were found in the age 47 years old and 16 years, accounting for 19.87 tons and 1.9 tons respectively. Thus, the amount of carbon stock was 11.92 tons/ha in the 35-years-old and 1.19 tons/ha in the 21-year stands. Furthermore, the average carbon stock in all plots was estimated as 18.70 tons/ha and hence the total carbon stock in the El Demokeya forest is equal to 620.11 tons. Conclusively, the characteristics of trees, amount of aboveground biomass and carbon stock in the El Demokeya forest varied among the uneven-aged plantation groups. The study recommends and encourages the protection of A. senegal in order to increase the carbon sink as well as protect the environment in the era of climatic changes.

BRCA1 Mutation Detection Using Fluorescent Hybridization Probes and Melting Curves

The BRCA1 （Breast Cancer Anti-estrogen resistance-I）, early-onset gene is expressed in cells of breast and other tissue and helps to repair damaged DNA or destroy cells in cases DNA cannot be repaired. When the BRCA1 gene is damaged, then the DNA is not repaired appropriately and this enhances the risk for cancer. Fluorescence and UV-visible thermal studies were performed for WT （wild type） and MT （mutant type targets） full systems. The target DNAs used were in the form of short oligonucleotides, genomic DNA. The probe system was used for detection of WT and SNP alleles of human BRCAI [（170-190, G---~T） and （290-310, G---~T）]. The Cy5 dye attached to a probe oligonucleotide （10-mer） undergoes a fluorescence intensity change on hybridisation of the probe to the WT compared to MT targets. Our results indicate that the system consisting of the target sequence and the one probe oligonucleotides bearing the Cy5 dye assemble correctly at the specified target. Once the full system （probe and target） is arranged under suitable conditions, a red-shift emission and change in fluorescence intensity are seen at a suitable wavelength. Thermal studies also showed significant differences in T,, between WT and MT. The results suggest that the differences in the fluorescence intensity at 665 nm and the spectrophotometric T,,,cs） for the WT and MT can be attributed to the type of binding of the probe to the target. The systems were sensitive to single nucleotide polymorphisms and this may help in high throughput applications in genetic testing and molecular diagnostics.

针对如何降低巴勒斯坦境内两个工业区对环境的影响，本文根据“以废治废”的原则提出了一种新环保方法。用切割石材固体废物处理制革废水中的铬，通过试验证明了这种方法的有效性和技术可行性。在最佳操作条件下，采用大量的固体废弃物（石灰石），并长时间与制革废水充分接触，几乎可以完全除去铬。本研究采用紫外／可见分光光度法测定了各个参数对于铬浓度相对减少量的影响。动力学曲线表明，浓度相对减少量随着时间的增加而增加，最终接近稳定（吸附能力）。随着液体中石灰石（固含量）的增加，其吸附能力也相应的增加，当固含量为5g／100mL或更高时，铬几乎完全去除。同时微粒沉淀下来，而这一过程的完成只需几天时间。吸附能力受pH值影响，当pH（5时，吸附就可以进行，而先前用其他微粒吸附Cr（III）的研究报告并中没有说明这一点。在pH〉5的情况下，其去除率相当于pH〈5时的两倍。进一步研究工作主要探讨沉淀和吸附的去除机理对试验结果影响的差别。

Unusual Presentation of a Rare Giant Fibroadenoma of the Breast

Giant fibroadenomas are exceptional in pregnancy and in most of cases, diameter doesn’t reach more than 15 cm. However, our case is a rare one that reached 18 cm in a 23-year-old female referred post-partum for evaluation of a huge left breast mass. On the other hand, there is a persistent debate regarding the best modality of the surgical approach to giant tumors;most of the experts recommend the enulceation of the tumor after delivery while others argue that extirpation during pregnancy is the best since we have to exclude malignancy. In our patient, the whole tumor was excised at the postpartum period and the pathology did not show any sign of malignancy. Even if our case does not clearly reveal the long term result of the postpartum excision of a giant fibroadenoma, the short term result we have had after this approach was satisfying. Further studies are important to be published in order to confirm pros and cons of the postpartum approach.

Prevalence of Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency Anemia in Infants and Children and Treatment with Microencapsulated Iron II Fumarate and Supplied Ascorbic Acid as “Sprinkles”

Background: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in children and infants is a common nutritional problem all over the world. Infants and young children have a high risk for developing iron deficiency (ID) because they have high demand for iron during the period of rapid growth. This is aggravated by the insufficiency of iron in their diet. Iron supplementation programs using pediatric tablets or drops have not been successful in the control of anemia amongst infants and children in some countries. “Sprinkles” is an innovative multi-micronutrient home fortification strategy to control iron deficiency and anemia to be more useful. Objective: The objective was to estimate the prevalence ID and IDA in infants and children in Ibb City, Yemen Republic;evaluate the use of a new form of iron and determine the hematologic response to different doses and forms of iron in Sprinkles and iron drops. Design: Using a prospective, randomized, controlled design, we studied 337 randomly children aged 24 - 48 months and infants aged 6 - 24 months in Ibb City (hemoglobin: 70 - 99 g/L). One group received a daily sachet of microencapsulated ferrous fumarate (80 mg elemental Fe) in powder form plus ascorbic acid to be sprinkled onto any complementary food eaten (sprinkles group);a control group received ferrous sulfate drops 3 times/d for 2 months (total dose: 40 mg elemental Fe). Hemoglobin and serum ferritin concentrations were measured at baseline and at the end of treatment. Results: Successful treatment of anemia (hemoglobin > 100 g/L) occurred in 58% of the sprinkles group and in 56% of the drops group, with minimal side effects in both groups. Geometric mean ferritin concentrations increased significantly in each group from baseline to the end of treatment (P Conclusion: Use of ferrous sulfate drops or a single daily dose of microencapsulated ferrous fumarate sprinkles plus ascorbicacid resulted in a similar rate of successful treatment of anemia without side effects. Background: Protein kinase B (AKT/PKB) family is frequently amplified in ovarian cancer (OC). To the greatest of our knowledge, there is a lack of published reports about the amplification of the genes belonging to the AKT family among Sudanese women with OC. The present study was conducted to detect the AKT1 gene amplification and its association with tumour types, grades, and ages among Sudanese women with OC, bearing in mind the ethnic variation. Methods: This institution-based study included 79 cases of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer (OC) at Omdurman Maternity Hospital in the period 2013-2018. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections were used to extract RNA. AKT1 gene amplification was assessed using quantitative real-time PCR. Results: The mean age (±SD) of included women was 49.29 (±13.612). The amplification of AKT1 gene was observed in 18/79 (22.8%) of OC women, with a high frequency in women with undifferentiated 1/2 (50%), clear cell 2/6 (33.3%), mucinous 3/11 (27.3%), endometrioid 3/17 (17.6%), and serous carcinomas 5/30 OC (16.7%). High frequency was seen in women with low (26.3%;n = 10/28) rather than in higher (19.5%;n = 8/33) grade carcinoma, and in older (25.8%;n = 8/23) rather than younger (18.2%;n = 2/9) women. No significant association between AKT1 gene amplification and tumour types, grades, and ages of women was observed (Fisher’s Exact test: p = 0.405, 0.593 and 0.851, respectively). Conclusion: AKT1 gene amplification arises in around one-fifth of Sudanese women with ovarian cancer (OC). It is seen more in undifferentiated, clear cell, and mucinous tumours types, and more frequently in low tumour grade and older women, but not to a statistically significant level. These outcomes sustenance previous studies suggesting that activated AKT genes have a vital role in OC progression and may offer a plan for targeted therapy and prognostic evaluation.

“Plasmas” up to a kilometer in size and behaving similarly to multicellular organisms have been filmed on 10 separate NASA space shuttle missions, over 200 miles above Earth within the thermosphere. These self-illuminated “plasmas” are attracted to and may “feed on” electromagnetic radiation. They have different morphologies: 1) cone, 2) cloud, 3) donut, 4) spherical-cylindrical;and have been filmed flying towards and descending from the thermosphere into thunderstorms;congregating by the hundreds and interacting with satellites generating electromagnetic activity;approaching the Space Shuttles. Computerized analysis of flight path trajectories documents these plasmas travel at different velocities from different directions and change their angle of trajectory making 45°, 90°, and 180° shifts and follow each other. They’ve been filmed accelerating, slowing down, stopping, congregating, engaging in “hunter-predatory” behavior and intersecting plasmas leaving a plasma dust trail in their wake. Similar life-like behaviors have been demonstrated by plasmas created experimentally. “Plasmas” may have been photographed in the 1940s by WWII pilots (identified as “Foo fighters”);repeatedly observed and filmed by astronauts and military pilots and classified as Unidentified Aerial—Anomalous Phenomenon. Plasmas are not biological but may represent a form of pre-life that via the incorporation of elements common in space, could result in the synthesis of RNA. Plasmas constitute a fourth state of matter, are attracted to electromagnetic activity, and when observed in the lower atmosphere likely account for many of the UFO-UAP sightings over the centuries.

Chiladiti’s syndrome is the association of a radiological and clinical semiology of the interposition of large colon or small intestine between the lower side of diaphragm and liver. We report the case of a 32-year-old woman,primigravida,who undergone a caesarean section at 39 weeks of amenorrhoea,for a clinical picture of persistent abdominal pain and a beginning hepatic cytolysis. The patient presented one day after the ceasarean section an occlusive syndrome of the small intestine. The etiology of the occlusion of the small intestine in post-partum was a Chiladiti’s syndrome with inter hepatodiaphragmatic incarceration of the small intestine discovered at the computed tomography. An exploratory laparotomy confirmed and permitted to treat Chiladiti’s syndrome complicated by an occlusion.
