Complement-dependent neuroinflammation in spinal cord injury:from pathology to therapeutic implications

Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.

Existence and Global Asymptotic Behavior of Positive Solutions for Sublinear and Superlinear Fractional Boundary Value Problems

In this paper, the authors aim at proving two existence results of fractional differential boundary value problems of the form （Pa,bα）{D^au（x）＋f（x,u（x））=0,x∈（0,1）,u（0）=u（1）=0,D^a-3u（0）=a,u^（1）=-6where 3 ≤ a 〈 4, D^ is the standard Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative and a, b are nonnegative constants. First the authors suppose that f（x, t） = -p（x）t^σ, with cr ~ （-1, 1） and p being a nonnegative continuous function that may be singular at x - 0 or x - 1 and satisfies some conditions related to the Karamata regular variation theory. Combining sharp estimates on some potential functions and the Sch^uder fixed point theorem, the authors prove the existence of a unique positive continuous solution to problem （P0,0）. Global estimates on such a solution are also obtained. To state the second existence result, the authors assume that a, b are nonnegative constants such that a ＋ b 〉 0 and f（x, t） -= tφ（x, t）, with φ（x, t） being a nonnegative continuous function in （0, 1） × [0, ∞） that is required to satisfy some suitable integrability condition. Using estimates on the Green＇s function and a perturbation argument, the authors prove the existence and uniqueness of a positive continuous solution u to problem （Pa,b）, which behaves like the unique solution of the homogeneous problem corresponding the existence results. to （Pa,b）. Some examples are given to illustrate the existence results.,

Resin transfer molding(RTM)is among the most used manufacturing processes for composite ***,the resin cure is initiated by heat supply to the *** supplementary heat generated during the reaction can cause thermal gradients in the composite,potentially leading to undesired residual stresses which can cause shrinkage and *** the present numerical study of these processes,a one-dimensional finite difference method is used to predict the temperature evolution and the degree of cure in the course of the resin polymerization;the effect of some parameters on the thermal gradient is then analyzed,namely:the fiber nature,the use of multiple layers of reinforcement with different thermal properties and also the temperature cycle *** validity of this numerical model is tested by comparison with experimental and numerical results in the existing literature.

Hybrid-integer algorithm for a multi-objective optimal home energy management system

Most of the energy produced in the world is consumed by commercial and residential *** the growth in the global economy and world demographics,this energy demand has become increasingly *** has led to higher unit electricity prices,frequent stresses on the main electricity grid and carbon emissions due to inefficient energy *** paper presents an energy-consumption management system based on time-shifting of loads according to the dynamic day-ahead electricity *** simultaneously reduces the electricity bill and the peaks,while maintaining user comfort in terms of the operating waiting time of *** proposed optimization problem is formulated mathematically in terms of multi-objective integer non-linear programming,which involves constraints and consumer *** optimal scheduling,the management problem is solved using the hybridization of the particle swarm optimization algorithm and the branch-and-bound *** techniques are proposed to manage the trade-off between the conflicting *** first technique is the Pareto-optimal solutions classification using supervised learning *** second technique is called the lexicographic *** simulations were performed based on residential building energy consumption,time-of-use pricing(TOU)and critical peak pricing(CPP).The algorithms were implemented in *** results of the current work show that the proposed approach is effective and can reduce the electricity bill and the peak-to-average ratio(PAR)by 28% and 49.32%,respectively,for the TOU tariff rate,and 48.91% and 47.87% for the CPP tariff rate by taking into account the consumer’s comfort level.

Day-ahead seasonal solar radiation prediction,combining VMD and STACK algorithms

This article proposes a method for accurately predicting solar irradiance over a 24-hour horizon to forecast photovoltaic energy generation in a positive-energy *** order to make this prediction,the input data are divided into seasons and preprocessed using the variational mode decomposition(seasonal-VMD)*** VMD method is used for extracting high-bandwidth features from the input data,decomposing them into a finite number of smooth modes and focusing on specific frequency ***,the accuracy of signal extraction using the VMD method can be improved by selecting particular parameters judiciously,which impacts the smoothing and frequency concentration of the extracted *** this regard,the salp swarm algorithm(SSA)is employed to identify the optimal VMD parameters that can be used to enhance extraction *** addition,the obtained residual between the observed solar irradiation data and their decomposed modes is treated to enhance the prediction process.A stacking algorithm(STACK)is used to predict the following 24-hour solar irradiance modes and the residual,which are finally summed to reconstruct the desired *** performances of the proposed prediction method are evaluated using two quantitative evaluation indices:the normalized root mean square percentage error(NRMSPE)and normalized mean absolute percentage error(NMAPE).The proposed model is trained on data collected for three years in Rabat(2019–22).The performance of the proposed model is evaluated by predicting the 24-hour solar irradiance for a different *** proposed approach seasonal-VMD-STACK is compared with two other methods in the case of using VMD-based STACK without season partition and STACK method ***,the proposed method has exhibited stability and proven good results with an NRMSPE of 3.87%and an NMAPE of 1.58%for cloudy days during the test *** results demonstrate that residual preprocessing,seasonal input data partition and appropriate selec

Dielectric Behavior of Modified Cellulose

The dielectric constants and the dielectric loss, as well as the activation energy of dielectric relaxation of silylated cellulose were measured within the frequency range 10**5 to 10**7 Hz and the temperature range from 10 to 50 degree C. The test samples were activated cellulose with ethylene diamine, with sodium hydroxide and inactivated cellulose before and after silylation. The measurements were carried out using a multi-deka-meter. Cellulose molecules are more activated by treatment with ethylene diamine than with sodium hydroxide. Generally, silylation causes a marked decrease of the dielectric constant and dielectric loss, meanwhile the silylated samples are affected with the pretreatment of linters with sodium hydroxide and ethylene diamine. Comprehensive toxicity assessment of nanodiamond on Blaps polychresta: implications and novel findings

With the increasing development of nanomaterials, the use of nanodiamonds (NDs) has been broadly manifested in many applications. However, their high penetration into the ecosystem indubitably poses remarkable toxicological risks. This paper investigates the toxic effects of NDs on the darkling beetle, Blaps polychresta Forskal, 1775 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). Survival analysis was carried out by monitoring the beetles for 30 d after the injection of four different doses of NDs. A dose of 10.0 mg NDs/g body weight, causing less than 50% mortality effect, was assigned in the analysis of the different organs of studied beetles, including testis, ovary, and midgut. Structural and ultrastructural analyses were followed using light, TEM, and SEM microscopes. In addition, a variety of stress markers and enzyme activities were assessed using spectrophotometric methods. Furthermore, cell viability and DNA damage were evaluated using cytometry and comet assay, respectively. Compared to the control group, the NDs-treated group was exposed to various abnormalities within all the studied organs as follows. Significant disturbances in enzyme activities were accompanied by an apparent dysregulation in the antioxidant system. The flow cytometry results indicated a substantial decrease of viable cells along with a rise of apoptotic and necrotic cells. The comet assay demonstrated a highly increased level of DNA damage. Likewise, histological analyses accentuated the same findings showing remarkable deformities in the studied organs. Prominently, the research findings substantially contribute for the first time to evaluating the critical effects of NDs on B. polychresta, adopted as the bioindicator in this paper.

The alignment operation between many protein sequences or DNAsequences related to the scientific bioinformatics application is very *** is a trade-off in the objectives in the existing techniques of MultipleSequence Alignment (MSA). The techniques that concern with speed ignoreaccuracy, whereas techniques that concern with accuracy ignore speed. Theterm alignment means to get the similarity in different sequences with highaccuracy. The more growing number of sequences leads to a very complexand complicated problem. Because of the emergence;rapid development;anddependence on gene sequencing, sequence alignment has become importantin every biological relationship analysis process. Calculating the numberof similar amino acids is the primary method for proving that there is arelationship between two sequences. The time is a main issue in any alignmenttechnique. In this paper, a more effective MSA method for handling themassive multiple protein sequences alignment maintaining the highest accuracy with less time consumption is proposed. The proposed method dependson Artificial Fish Swarm (AFS) algorithm that can break down the mostchallenges of MSA problems. The AFS is exploited to obtain high accuracyin adequate time. ASF has been increasing popularly in various applicationssuch as artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, and dataintensive application. It basically mimics the behavior of fish trying to getthe food in nature. The proposed mechanisms of AFS that is like preying,swarming, following, moving, and leaping help in increasing the accuracy andconcerning the speed by decreasing execution time. The sense organs that aidthe artificial fishes to collect information and vision from the environmenthelp in concerning the accuracy. Planning and Profit Sharing in Overlay WiFi and LTE Systems toward 5G Networks

With the increasing demand for data traffic and with the massive foreseen deployment of the Internet of Things (IoT), higher data rates and capacity are required in mobile networks. While Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) are under study toward 5G technology, Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) Access Points (APs) are considered a potential layer within those multiple Radio Access Technologies (RATs). For this purpose, we have proposed in this paper a novel WiFi dimensioning method, to offload data traffic from Long Term Evolution (LTE) to WiFi, by transferring the LTE energy consuming heavy users, to the WiFi network. First, we have calculated the remaining available capacity of the WiFi network based on the estimated load of each WiFi physical channel using the overlapping characteristic of the channels. Then, we were able through this dimensioning method, to calculate the minimum needed number of WiFi APs that ensure the same or better throughput for the LTE transferred users. By this method, we have ensured additional capacity in the LTE network with minimum investment cost in the WiFi network. Finally, we have estimated the profit sharing between LTE and WiFi by considering data bundles subscription revenues and the infrastructure capital and operational costs. We have calculated for each network the profit share using a coalition game theory Shapley value that pinpoints the benefit of the cooperation using the proposed dimensioning method.
