Rock composition and origin of the Duwi Formation calcareous rocks, Upper Egypt

Upper Cretaceous phosphorite beds of the Duwi Formation, Upper Egypt, are intercalated with lim.s.one, sandy lim.s.one, marl, calcareous shales, and calcareous sandstone. Calcareous intercalations were subjected to field and detailed petrographic, mineralogical and geochemical investigations in order to constrain their rock composition and origin.; mineralogically, dolomite, calcite, quartz, francolite and feldspars are the non-clay minerals. smectite, kaolinite and illite represent the clay minerals. major and trace elements can be classified as the detrital and carbonate fractions based on their sources. The detrital fraction includes the elements that are derived from detrital sources, mainly clay minerals and quartz, such as si, Al, Fe, Ti, K, Ba, V, Ni, Co, Cr, Zn, Cu, Zr, and mo. The carbonate fraction includes the elements that are derived from carbonates, maily calcite and dolomite, such as Ca, mg and sr. ; Dolomite occurs as being dense, uniform, m.s.ic, very fine-to-fine, non-ferroan, and non-stoichiometrical, suggesting its early diagenetic formation in a near-shore oxidizing shallow marine environment. The close association and positive correlation between dolomite and smectite indicates the role of clay minerals in the formation of dolomite as a source of mgm.s.-rich solutions.; Calcareous rocks were deposited in marine, oxidizing and weakly alkaline conditions, marking a semi-arid climatic period. The calcareous/argillaceous alternations are due to oscillations in clay/carbonate ratio.

Dye removal using some surface modified silicate minerals

The objective of this work is to study the efficiency of some surface modified phyllosilicate minerals(bentonite and glauconite) in the removal of dyes from textile waste water. It is found that complete dye removal was achieved by using 10–25 g modified glauconite from.s.lutions having a dye concentration of 10–50 mg/L. Adsorption data were modeled using Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherms. Adsorption capacities and optimum adsorption isotherms were predicted by linear regression method. The analysis of experimental isotherms showed that Langmuir isotherm reasonably fit the experimental data in the studied concentration range for the adsorption of dye onto glauconite mineral surface where Freundlich isotherm fit the experimental data for the adsorption of dye onto bentonite mineral surface.

Characterization and beneficiation of the Egyptian black shale for possible extraction of organic matter

The present paper focuses on obtaining concentrate enriched with organic matter that could be suitable for a retorting process from black shale; this is black shale from the safaga area on the Red sea Coast.X-ray diffraction and optical polarising microscope are used in evaluating black shale minerals. Attrition scrubbing and flotation were conducted for enrichment of organic matter in the black shale *** studies revealed that black shale samples contain bituminous calcareous clay stone, quartz,apatite and pyrite. Rabah mine black shale contains 28% organic matter. The results of the different separation techniques indicate that attrition and flotation techniques successively enriched the organic matter in the black shale. The organic matter could be enriched in the black shale and obtained a concentrate with 59% assaying and 85% recovery.

To meet the rapidly increasing demand for energy and the dramatic depletion of conventional crude oil,it is imperative to utilize sour *** no coke being produced,oxidative desulfurization(ODs)of naphtha lowers its sulfur content and average molecular *** this article,we outline a method for heavy naphtha non-extractive ODs using a very stable *** technique involves the use of a solid catalyst with oxygen gas as the *** necessitated relatively high mixing intensities;hence a three-phase Oscillatory Baffled Reactor(OBR)was *** catalyst was based on the zeolite Zsm-5,prepared from natural kaolin by a series of delamination and activation steps and impregnated with Fe.A TiO2 nanolayer was applied,using the sol-gel method,to prevent rapid *** reactor performance was evaluated to minimize the sulfur content in the naphtha *** to the protective coating,the sulfur conversion stabilized at 90%.The results of this work establish the use of natural clay-based catalysts in a continuous,three-phase ODs,particularly with regard to proving long-term *** also showed that modest ODs can be achieved using an environmentally friendly oxidant,at mild operating conditions,whilst maintaining stability.

Ballistic design and testing of a composite armour reinforced by CNTs suitable for armoured vehicles

This paper is investigating the use of composite armour reinforced by nanomaterials, for the protection of light armoured(LAV) and medium armoured military vehicles(mAV), and the interaction between the composite materials and high-performance ballistic projectiles. Four armour materials, consisted of front hybrid fibre reinforced polymer cover layer, ceramic strike-face, fibre reinforced polymer intermediate layer and the metal matrix composite reinforced backplate, were manufactured and assembled by adhesive technology. The proposed laminated protection system is suitable for armoured ground vehicles;however, it could be used as armour on ground, air and naval platforms. The design of the protection system, including material selection and thickness, was elaborated depending on the performance requirements of Level 4 + sTANAG 4569 military standard(projectile 14.5 mm × 114 mm API B32) and especially on a design philosophy which is analysed with the specifications. The backplate of this new composite is a hybrid material of metal matrix Composite(mmC) reinforced with carbon nanotubes(CNTs), manufactured with the use of powder metallurgy technique. The composite backplate material was morphologically, mechanically and chemically analysed. Results show that all plates are presenting high mechanical properties and ballistic characteristics, compared to commonly used armour plates. Real military ballistic tests according to AEP-sTANAG 4569 were carried out for the total composite armour systems. After the ballistic tests, AA2024-CNT3 showed the best protection results, compared with the other plates(AA2024-CNT1 and AA2024-CNT2), with the projectile being unable to fully penetrate the composite plate.

In this study,green zinc oxide(ZnO)/polypyrrole(Ppy)/cellulose acetate(CA)film has been synthesized via solvent *** film was used as supporting material for glucose oxidase(GOx)to sensitize a glucose *** nanoparticles have been prepared via the green route using olive leaves extract as a ***/Ppy nanocomposite has been synthesized by a simple in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole(Py)monomer using ferric chloride(FeCl3)as an oxidizing *** produced materials and the composite films were characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD),scanning electron microscope(sEm),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Glucose oxidase was successfully immobilized on the surface of the prepared film and then ZnO/Ppy/CA/GOx composite was sputtered with platinum electrode for the current determination at different initial concentrations of *** measurements proved the suitability and the high sensitivity of the constructed biosensor for the detection of glucose levels in different *** performance of the prepared biosensor has been assessed by measuring and comparing glucose concentrations up to 800 *** results affirmed the reliability of the developed biosensor towards real samples which suggests the wide-scale application of the proposed biosensor.
