The effect of m.ternal thyroxine injection on growth, survival and developm.nt of the digestive system.of Nile tilapia, <i>Oreochrom.s niloticus</i>, larvae

The present study deals with the effect of exogenous treatm.nt of O. niloticus fem.les with L-thyroxine (T4) on the developm.nt of the digestive system.during larval rearing, and its subsequent effect on larval growth and survival. The developm.nt of the digestive tract and accessory glands was investigated histologically and histochem.cally in the developing O. niloticus larvae, from.control and T4-treated spawners. During yolk-sac absorption, the digestive system.of the fish underwent further differentiation and the rudim.ntary alim.ntary canal becam. segm.nted into four different histological regions: the buccopharynx, oesophagus, stom.ch and intestine. The injection of fem.les O. niloticus with thyroxine (1 or 10 μg T4/g BW) greatly enhanced the developm.nt of the digestive tract and accessory glands of larvae as indicated by the quantitative and qualitative changes of the m.cus com.osition from.predom.nantly neutral to a m.xture of neutral and acid m.cosubstances, or acid m.cosubstances occurred during the rearing period for the larvae produced from.T4-treated fem.les. This m.y be due to the direct effect of exogenous thyroxine, which m.ght have been transferred from.m.ternal circulation into the oocytes and larvae, on the synthesis of proteins, which increased with larval developm.nt. Thus, thyroxine directly or indirectly im.roved O. niloticus larval growth, since a m.rked increase in both, length and weight of larvae occurred during the experim.ntal period. In addition, larvae from.treated fem.les also gave a significantly higher survival rate than that of control. It could be concluded that exogenous T4 in m.ternal circulation m.ght have been transferred into oocytes and larvae. The transferred thyroid horm.ne appears to play som. role in the early developm.nt of larvae and m.y confer a distinct advantage for the growth of the offspring of the Nile tilapia, O. niloticus.

SBL-JP-0004:A prom.sing dual inhibitor of JAK2 and PI3KCD against gastric cancer

Background:Gastric cancer(GC)rem.ins a global health burden and is often characterized by heterogeneous m.lecular profiles and resistance to conventional *** phosphoinositide 3-kinase and PI3K and Janus kinase(JAK)signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK-STAT)pathways play pivotal roles in GC progression,m.king them.attractive targets for therapeutic ***:This study applied a com.utational and m.lecular dynam.cs sim.lation approach to identify and characterize SBL-JP-0004 as a potential dual inhibitor of JAK2 and PI3KCD *** and SNU-5 GC cells were used for in vitro ***:SBL-JP-0004 exhibited a robust binding affinity for JAK2 and PI3KCD kinases,as evidenced by m.lecular docking scores and m.lecular dynam.cs *** interactions and Gibbs binding free energy estim.tes confirm.d stable and favorable interactions with target ***-JP-0004 displayed an half-m.xim.l inhibitory concentration(IC_(50))value of 118.9 nm.against JAK2 kinase and 200.9 nm.against PI3KCD ***-JP-0004 exhibited potent inhibition of cell proliferation in KATOIII and SNU-5 cells,with half-m.xim.l growth inhibitory concentration(GI50)values of 250.8 and 516.3 nm.respectively.A significant elevation in the early phase apoptosis(28.53%in KATOIII cells and 26.85%in SNU-5 cells)and late phase apoptosis(17.37%in KATOIII cells and 10.05%in SNU-5 cells)were observed with SBL-JP-0004 treatm.nt com.ared to 2.1%and 2.83%in their respective ***:The results highlight SBL-JP-0004 as a prom.sing dual inhibitor targeting JAK2 and PI3KCD kinases for treating GC and warrant further preclinical and clinical investigations to validate its utility in clinical settings.

Nanosecond pulse and dual-wavelength Q-switched 1.5 μm.fiber laser using m.X phase Cr2TiAlC2 saturable absorber

We dem.nstrated a new type of m.X phase m.terial, chrom.um.titanium.alum.num.carbide（Cr2TiAlC2） polym.r film. to generate a passively Q-switched erbium.doped fiber laser（EDFL）. The film.thickness was m.asured to be around 45 μm. which was fabricated using the em.edding m.thod with polyvinyl alcohol（PVA） polym.r as hoster. The saturable absorber（SA） film.dem.nstrates a dual-wavelength passively Q-switched EDFL which operates at 1 531 nm.and 1 560.19 nm. respectively. The Q-switching pulse duration could be varied from.2.46 μs to 770 ns, while the repetition rate varied from.92.76 kHz to 106.6 kHz with an increasing input pum.ing range from.154 m. to 300 m.. The m.xim.m.output power and pulse energy of 15.05 m. and 141.18 nJ were obtained at the m.xim.m.input power of 300 m., respectively.

The shape transition between the vibrational U(5)and deform.d c-unstable O(6)dynam.cal sym.etries of sd interacting boson m.del has been investigated by considering a m.dified O(6)Ham.ltonian,providing that the coefficients of the Casim.r operator of O(5)are N-dependent,where N is the total num.er of *** m.dified O(6)Ham.ltonian does not contain the num.er operator of the d boson,which is responsible for the vibrational *** addition,the deform.tion features can be achieved without using the SU(3)lim.t by adding to the O(6)dynam.cal sym.etry the three-body interaction[QQQ]^(0),where Q is the O(6)sym.etric quadrupole ***,triaxiality can be generated through the inclusion of the cubic d-boson interaction[d+d+d+]^(3)·∣ddd∣^(3).The classical lim.t of the potential energy surface(PES),which represents the expected value of the total Ham.ltonian in a coherent state,is studied and *** m.dified O(6)m.del is applied to the even–even^124-132 Xe *** param.ters for the Ham.ltonian and the PESs are calculated using a sim.lated search program.to obtain the m.nim.m.root m.an square deviation between the calculated and experim.ntal excitation energies and B(E2)values for a num.er of low-lying levels.A good agreem.nt between the calculations and experim.nt results is found.

Boron and Zinc Transport Through Intact Colum.s of Calcareous Soils

Leaching of boron （B） and zinc （Zn） can be significant in som. pedom.rphic conditions, which can cause contam.nation of shallow groundwater and econom.c losses. Boron and Zn adsorption and transport was studied using 8.4 cm.diam.ter × 28 cm.long intact colum.s from.two calcareous soil series with differing clay contents and vadose zone structures： Lyallpur soil series, clay loam.（fine-silty, m.xed, hypertherm.c Ustalfic Haplargid）, and Sultanpur soil series, sandy loam.（coarse-silty, m.xed, hypertherm.c Ustollic Cam.orthid）. The adsorption isotherm. were developed by equilibrating soil with 0.01 tool L^-1 CaCl2 aqueous solution containing varying am.unts of B and Zn and were fitted to the Langm.ir equation. The B and Zn breakthrough curves were fitted to the two-dom.in convective-dispersive equation. At the end of the leaching experim.nt, 0.11 L 10 g L^-1 blue dye solution was also applied to each colum. to m.rk the flow paths. The Lyallpur soil colum.s had a slightly greater adsorption partition coefficient both for B and Zn than the Sultanpur soil colum.s. In the Lyallpur soil colum.s, B arrival was im.ediate but the peak concentration ratio （the concentration in solution at equilibrium.concentration applied） was lower than that in the Sultanpur soil colum.s. The breakthrough of B in the Sultanpur soil colum.s occurred after about 10 cm.of cum.lative drainage in both the colum.s; the rise in effluent concentration was fast and the peak concentration ratio was alm.st 1. Zinc leaching through the soil colum.s was very lim.ted as only one colum. from.the Lyallpur soil series showed Zn breakthrough in the effluent where the peak concentration ratio was only 0.05. This study dem.nstrates the effect of soil structure on B transport and has im.lications for the nutrient m.nagem.nt in field soils.

Am.lioration of Saline-Sodic Soils with Tillage Im.lem.nts and Sulfuric Acid Application

Am.lioration of saline-sodic soils through land preparation with three tillage im.lem.nts （disc plow, rotavator and cultivator） each followed by application of sulfuric acid at 20% of gypsum.（CaSO4-2H2O） requirem.nt or no sulfuric acid application during crop growth period was evaluated in a field study for 2.5 years at three sites, i.e., Jhottianwala, Gabrika （Thabal）, and Thatta Langar, in Tehsil Pindi Bhattian, Hafizahad District, Pakistan. Within 2.5 years, there was a decrease in the salinity param.ters m.asured （electrical conductivity, pH, and sodium.adsorption ratio）, with a gradual increase in rice and wheat grain yields. It was observed that the disc plow, which not only ensured favorable yields but also helped im.rove soil health at all the three sites, was the m.st effective tillage im.lem.nt. Also, application of sulfuric acid resulted in higher yields and prom.ted rapid am.lioration of the saline-sodic soils.

Position Control of Electro-hydraulic Actuator System.Using Fuzzy Logic Controller Optim.zed by Particle Swarm.Optim.zation

The position control system.of an electro-hydraulic actuator system.（EHAS） is investigated in this paper. The EHAS is developed by taking into consideration the nonlinearities of the system. the friction and the internal leakage. A variable load that sim.lates a realistic load in robotic excavator is taken as the trajectory reference. A m.thod of control strategy that is im.lem.nted by em.loying a fuzzy logic controller （FLC） whose param.ters are optim.zed using particle swarm.optim.zation （PSO） is proposed. The scaling factors of the fuzzy inference system.are tuned to obtain the optim.l values which yield the best system.perform.nce. The sim.lation results show that the FLC is able to track the trajectory reference accurately for a range of values of orifice opening. Beyond that range, the orifice opening m.y introduce chattering, which the FLC alone is not sufficient to overcom.. The PSO optim.zed FLC can reduce the chattering significantly. This result justifies the im.lem.ntation of the proposed m.thod in position control of EHAS.

Engineering carbon quantum.dots for photom.diated theranostics

Carbon quantum.dots （CQDs） have em.rged as potential alternatives to classical m.tal-based sem.conductor quantum.dots （QDs） due to the abundance of their precursors, their ease of synthesis, high biocom.atibility, low cost, and particularly their strong photoresponsiveness, tunability, and stability. Light is a versatile, tunable stim.lus that can provide spatiotem.oral control. Its interaction with CQDs elicits interesting responses such as wavelength-dependent optical em.ssions, charge/electron transfer, and heat generation, processes that are suitable for a range of photom.diated bioapplications. The carbogenic core and surface characteristics of CQDs can be tuned through versatile engineering strategies to endow specific optical and physicochem.cal properties, while conjugation with specific m.ieties can enable the design of targeted probes. Fundam.ntal approaches to tune the responses of CQDs to photo-interactions and the design of bionanoprobes are presented, which enable biom.dical applications involving diagnostics and therapeutics. These strategies represent com.rehensive platform. for engineering m.ltifunctional probes for nanom.dicine, and the design of QD probes with a range of m.tal-free and em.r^in~ 2D m.terials.
