Testing the short-termism hypothesis:Institutional investors,family control,and capital spending in Malaysia

We have examined whether institutional ownership and family control in Malaysia are linked to capital *** panel data from 220 listed companies in Malaysia,we showed that institutional ownership is positively associated with capital expenditure(CAPEX).Consistent with institutional investors’monitoring role in corporate governance,the results indicate that this relationship was driven by the presence of growth ***,we found that family control was negatively associated with *** analyses showed that this relationship was moderated by company *** larger family firms invest less in CAPEX,smaller family firms invest more in CAPEX,indicating that the benefits of lower agency conflicts in family firms hold only for smaller *** results are robust to alternative empirical measurements that account for firm characteristics and the endogeneity of institutional shareholding.

We gave an extensive study for the quasi-periodic perturbations on the time profiles of the line of sight(LOS) magnetic field in 10 × 10 sub-areas in a solar plage region(corresponds to a facula on the photosphere).The perturbations are found to be associated with the enhancement of He I 10830 A absorption in a moss region,which is connected to loops with million-degree *** analysis to the perturbations gives a kind of spectrum similar to that of Doppler velocity:a number of discrete periods around 5 *** amplitudes of the magnetic perturbations are found to be proportional to magnetic field strength over these *** addition,magnetic perturbations lag behind a quarter of the cycle in the phase with respect to the p-mode Doppler *** show that the relationships can be well explained with an MHD solution for the magneto-acoustic oscillations in high-β *** analysis also shows that,for the two regions with the stronger and weaker magnetic field,the perturbations are always *** findings show that the magnetic perturbations are actually magneto-acoustic oscillations on the solar surface,the photosphere,powered by p-mode *** findings may provide a new diagnostic tool for exploring the relationship between magneto-acoustic oscillations and the heating of the solar upper atmosphere,as well as their role in helioseismology.

In 2012,an estimated 35.3 million people lived with HIV,while approximately two million new HIV infections were ***-based interventions(CBIs)for the prevention and control of HIV allow increased access and ease availability of medical care to population at risk,or already infected with,*** paper evaluates the impact of CBIs on HIV knowledge,attitudes,and *** included 39 studies on educational activities,counseling sessions,home visits,mentoring,women’s groups,peer leadership,and street outreach activities in community settings that aimed to increase awareness on HIV/AIDS risk factors and ensure treatment *** review findings suggest that CBIs to increase HIV awareness and risk reduction are effective in improving knowledge,attitudes,and practice outcomes as evidenced by the increased knowledge scores for HIV/AIDS(SMD:0.66,95%CI:0.25,1.07),protected sexual encounters(RR:1.19,95%CI:1.13,1.25),condom use(SMD:0.96,95%CI:0.03,1.58),and decreased frequency of sexual intercourse(RR:0.76,95%CI:0.61,0.96).Analysis shows that CBIs did not have any significant impact on scores for self-efficacy and *** found very limited evidence on community-based management for HIV infected population and prevention of mother-to-child transmission(MTCT)for HIV-infected pregnant *** synthesis suggests that establishment of community support at the onset of HIV prevention programs leads to community acceptance and ***-based delivery of HIV prevention education and contraceptive distribution have also been advocated as potential strategies to target high-risk youth *** studies should focus on evaluating the effectiveness of community delivery platforms for prevention of MTCT,and various emerging models of care to improve morbidity and mortality outcomes.

Assessment of soil water retention in arid region is an input required parameter in precision water management at large *** were carried out in Tanta catchment in the middle Nile Delta,Egypt(30145 N,30155 E),where collecting soil samples covered different hydrological soil groups and *** on the natural resource conservation service curve number model(NRCS-CN),CN approach was used to investigate the effect of spatio-temporal variations of different land-uses on soil water *** soil water retention from 1990 to 2015 was reduced by 118.1 m^(3) per hectare with decreasing cropland *** encroachment from 1990 to 2015 was increased by 2.13%by decreasing cropland with 15.3%(5300 ha in 2015).This resulted in losing the potential soil water retention by 625,968.42 m^(3) water for the whole catchment *** of land degradation was pronounced,where 2.65%,29.35%,and 1.11%of the initial crop land-use in 1990 were converted to bare soil,fallow,and urban area,respectively in *** of(S)value of the NRCS-CN model with GIS technique provides useful measure to identify land-use changes of potential water storage capacity at catchment scale.

High resoultion Eulerian mean velocity field has been derived by combining the satellite tracked surface drifter data with satellite altimetry and ocean surface winds. The drifter data used in this study includes Argos and surface drifter data from Global Drifter Program. Maps of Sea Level Anomaly （MSLA） weekly files with a resolution of （1/3）° in both Latitude and Longitude for the period 1993-2012 have been used. The Ekman current is computed using ocean surface mean wind fields from scatterometers onboard ERS 1/2, Quikscat and ASCAT. The derived mean velocity field exhibits the broad flow of Antarctic Circumpolar Current with speeds up to 0.6 m/s. Anomalous field is quite significant in the western part between 20~ and 40~E and in the eastern part between 80~E and 100~E with velocity anomaly up to 0.3 m/s. The estimated mean flow pattern well agrees with the dynamic topography derived from in-situ observations. Also, the derived velocity field is consistent with the in-situ ADCP current measurements. Eddy kinetic energy illustrates an increasing trend during 1993-2008 and is in phase coherence with the Southern Annular Mode by three month lag. Periodic modulations are found in the eddy kinetic energy due the low frequency Antarctic Circumpolar Wave propagation.

With the recent developments in the Internet of Things(IoT),the amount of data collected has expanded tremendously,resulting in a higher demand for data storage,computational capacity,and real-time processing *** computing has traditionally played an important role in establishing ***,fog computing has recently emerged as a new field complementing cloud computing due to its enhanced mobility,location awareness,heterogeneity,scalability,low latency,and geographic ***,IoT networks are vulnerable to unwanted assaults because of their open and shared *** a result,various fog computing-based security models that protect IoT networks have been developed.A distributed architecture based on an intrusion detection system(IDS)ensures that a dynamic,scalable IoT environment with the ability to disperse centralized tasks to local fog nodes and which successfully detects advanced malicious threats is *** this study,we examined the time-related aspects of network traffic *** presented an intrusion detection model based on a twolayered bidirectional long short-term memory(Bi-LSTM)with an attention mechanism for traffic data classification verified on the UNSW-NB15 benchmark *** showed that the suggested model outperformed numerous leading-edge Network IDS that used machine learning models in terms of accuracy,precision,recall and F1 score.
