The role that visual discriminative ability plays among giant pandas in social communication and individual discrimination has received less attention than olfactory and auditory ***,we used an eye-tracker technology to investigate pupil fixation patterns for 8 captive male giant pandas Ailuropoda *** paired images(N=26)of conspecifics against:1)sympatric predators(gray wolves and tigers),and non-threatening sympatric species(golden pheasant,golden snub-nosed monkey,takin,and red panda),2)conspecifics with atypical fur colora-tion(albino and brown),and 3)zookeepers/non-zookeepers wearing either work uniform or plain *** each session,we tracked the pan-da's pupil movements and measured pupil first fixation point(FFP),fixation latency,total fixation count(TFC),and duration(TFd)of attention to each ***,pandas exhibited similar attention(FFPs and TFCs)to images of predators and non-threatening sympatric *** of golden pheasant,snub-nosed monkey,and tiger received less attention(TFd)than images of conspecifics,whereas images of takin and red panda received more attention,suggesting a greater alertness to habitat or food competitors than to potential ***'TFCs were greater for images of black-white conspecifics than for albino or brown phenotypes,implying that familiar color elicited more *** reacted differently to images of men versus *** images of women only,pandas gave more attention(TFC)to familiar combinations(uniformed zookeepers and plain-clothed non-zookeepers),consistent with the familiarity *** pandas can use visual perception to discriminate intra-specifically and inter-specifically,including details of human appearance,has applications for panda conservation and captive husbandry.

delivery of a peptide(APP96-110),derived from amyloid precursor protein(APP),has been shown to elicit neuroprotective effects following cerebral stroke and traumatic brain *** this study,the effect of APP96-110 or a mutant version of this peptide(mAPP96-110)was assessed following moderate(200 kdyn,(2 N))thoracic contusive spinal cord injury(SCI)in adult Nude *** received a single tail vein injection of APP96-110 or mAPP96-110 at 30 minutes post-SCI and were then assessed for functional improvements over the next 8 weeks.A cohort of animals also received transplants of either viable or non-viable human mesenchymal stromal cells(hMSCs)into the SC lesion site at one week post-injury to assess the effect of combining intravenous APP96-110 delivery with hMSC *** were perfused 8 weeks post-SCI and longitudinal sections of spinal cord analyzed for a number of factors including hMSC viability,cyst size,axonal regrowth,glial reactivity and macrophage *** of sensorimotor function revealed occasional significant differences between groups using Ladderwalk or Ratwalk tests,however there were no consistent improvements in functional outcome after any of the ***96-110 alone,and APP96-110 in combination with both viable and non-viable hMSCs significantly reduced cyst size compared to SCI *** treatments with donor hMSCs also significantly increased βIII tubulin^(+),glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP^(+))and laminin+expression,and decreased Ed1^(+)expression in *** preliminary study demonstrates that intravenous delivery of APP96-110 peptide has selective,modest neuroprotective effects following SCI,which may be enhanced when combined with hMSC ***,the effects are less pronounced and less consistent compared to the protective morphological and cognitive impact that this same peptide has on neuronal survival and behaviour after stroke and traumatic brain *** while the efficacy of a

背景：对于非ST段抬高急性冠脉综合征（acute coronary syndromes，ACS）患者而言，与单独应用普通肝素相比，依诺肝素或者血小板糖蛋白Ⅱb／Ⅲa受体拮抗剂替罗非班与普通肝素联合应用都显示出较好的疗效。目前，尚不清楚依诺肝素和替罗非班联合应用是否像普通肝素和替罗非班标准联合方案一样安全有效。目的：在非ST段抬高的ACS患者中评价依诺肝素和替罗非班联合疗法与普通肝素和替罗非班联合方案的疗效及安全性。设计、地点及参试者：国际前瞻性、开标（open—label）、随机、非劣势（noninferiority）试验。在接受替罗非班和阿斯匹林治疗的非ST段抬高ACS患者中分别给予依诺肝素1mg／kg（n=2026）每12小时一次或经体重校正的静脉普通肝素（n=1961），然后进行比较。这项A to Z试验的A阶段试验是于1999年12月至2002年5月进行的。主要观察指标：意向治疗人群7天时死亡、再发心肌梗死和难治性缺血的发生情况，该意向治疗人群是根据优效性和非劣势原则确定的。应用“心肌梗死溶栓治疗试验”（Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction，TIMI）中之出血分级系统，通过监测出血发生率判定用药安全性。结果：在治疗第7天时，随机分配至依诺肝素组的2018例患者中有169例（8．4％）发生死亡、心肌梗死或者难治性缺血，而普通肝素组的1952例患者中有184例（9．4％）发生上述事件（风险比[hazard ratio，HR]为0．88，95％可信区间[confidence interval，CI]为0．71～1．08）。该结果符合预先设定的非劣势标准。除死亡外，所有一级和二级复合终点事件分析结果均提示，依诺肝素更为有益。死亡仅见于1％的患者（依诺肝素组23例，普通肝素组17例）。任何TIMI分级的出血发生率都很低（依诺肝素组为3．0％，普通肝素组为2．2％；P=0．13）。最差情况分析（合并了两种独立的出血判定策略）表明，采用依诺肝素每治疗200例患者就会发生一次TIMI严重出血。结论：对于接受替罗非班和阿斯匹林治疗的非ST段抬高ACS患者而言，依诺肝素是除普通普通肝素之外的另一种适当选择。依诺肝素可使一级终点相对减少12％，绝对减少1％，符合非劣势标准。该结果与以往未联用糖蛋白Ⅱb／Ⅲa受体拮抗剂的试验一致。

The Royal Military College of Canada, located on the north eastern shore of Lake Ontario, possesses an abundance of copper roofs and lacks surface water treatment prior to discharge into Lake Ontario. Rainwater, roof runoff and soil samples were collected and analyzed for copper and other parameters. Copper was consistently detected in runoff samples with average concentrations of 3200 ± 2100 μg/L. Multivariable linear regression analysis for a dependant copper runoff concentration yielded an adjusted R 2 value of 0.611, based on an independent variable model using minimum temperature, maximum temperature, total precipitation, and wind speed. Lake water samples taken in the vicinity of storm water outfalls draining areas with copper roofs ranged from 2.0 to 40 μg/L copper. Such data exceed the 2.0 μg/L Canadian Water Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Aquatic Life as outlined by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment （CCME）. Analysis of raw, filtered and digested forms suggested that the majority of copper present in runoff and lake water samples was in a dissolved form. The majority of soils taken in this study displayed copper concentrations below the 63 μg/g CCME residential/parkland land use limits. These findings suggested that ion exchange processes between runoff water and soil do not occur to a sufficient extent to elevate copper levels in soil. It may therefore be concluded that the eventual fate of copper, which is not discharged via storm water outfalls, is lost to the water table and Lake Ontario through the sub-soil.
