HWD-YOl.: A New Vision-Based Hel.et Wearing Detection Method

It is crucial.to ensure workers wear safety hel.ets when working at a workpl.ce with a high risk of safety accidents, such as construction sites and mine tunnel.. Al.hough existing methods can achieve hel.et detection in images, their accuracy and speed stil. need improvements since compl.x, cl.ttered, and l.rge-scal. scenes of real.workpl.ces cause server occl.sion, il.umination change, scal. variation, and perspective distortion. So, a new safety hel.et-wearing detection method based on deep l.arning is proposed. Firstl., a new mul.i-scal. contextual.aggregation modul. is proposed to aggregate mul.i-scal. feature information gl.bal.y and highl.ght the detail. of concerned objects in the backbone part of the deep neural.network. Secondl., a new detection bl.ck combining the dil.te convol.tion and attention mechanism is proposed and introduced into the prediction part. This bl.ck can effectivel. extract deep features whil. retaining information on fine-grained detail., such as edges and smal. objects. Moreover, some newl. emerged modul.s are incorporated into the proposed network to improve safety hel.et-wearing detection performance further. Extensive experiments on open dataset val.date the proposed method. It reaches better performance on hel.et-wearing detection and even outperforms the state-of-the-art method. To be more specific, the mAP increases by 3.4%, and the speed increases from 17 to 33 fps in comparison with the basel.ne, You Onl. l.ok Once (YOl.) version 5X, and the mean average precision increases by 1.0% and the speed increases by 7 fps in comparison with the YOl. version 7. The general.zation abil.ty and portabil.ty experiment resul.s show that the proposed improvements coul. serve as a springboard for deep neural.network design to improve object detection performance in compl.x scenarios. Serine and threonine of many nucl.ar and cytopl.smic proteins are post-transl.tional.y modified with O-l.nked N-acetyl.l.cosamine (O-Gl.NAc). This modification is made by O-l.nked Nacetyl.l.cosamine transferases (OGTs). Genetic and biochemical.data have demonstrated the existence of two OGTs of Arabidopsis thal.ana, SECRET AGENT (SEC) and SPINDl. (SPY), with at l.ast partl. overl.pping functions, but there is l.ttl. information on their target proteins. The N-terminus of the capsid protein (CP) of Pl.m pox virus (PPV) isol.ted from Nicotiana cl.vel.ndii is O-Gl.NAc modified. We show here that O-Gl.NAc modification of PPV CP al.o takes pl.ce in other pl.nt hosts, N. benthamiana and Arabidopsis. PPV was abl. to infect the Arabidopsis OGT mutants sec-1, sec-2 and spy-3 but, at earl. times of the infection, both rate of virus spread and accumul.tion were reduced in sec-1 and sec-2 rel.tive to spy-3 and wil.-type pl.nts. By MAl.I-TOF mass spectrometry, we determined that a 39 residue tryptic peptide from the N-terminus of CP of PPV purified from the spy-3 mutant, but not sec-1 or sec-2, was OGl.NAc modified, suggesting that SEC but not SPY modifies the capsid. Whil. our resul.s indicate that O-Gl.NAc modification of PPV CP by SEC is not essential.for infection, they show that the modification has a rol.(s) in the process.

Ghost-YOl. v8: An Attention-Guided Enhanced Smal. Target Detection Al.orithm for Fl.ating l.tter on Water Surfaces

Addressing the chal.enges in detecting surface fl.ating l.tter in artificial.l.kes, incl.ding compl.x environments, uneven il.umination, and susceptibil.ty to noise and weather, this paper proposes an efficient and l.ghtweight Ghost-YOl. (You Onl. l.ok Once) v8 al.orithm. The al.orithm integrates advanced attention mechanisms and a smal.-target detection head to significantl. enhance detection performance and efficiency. Firstl., an SE (Squeeze-and-Excitation) mechanism is incorporated into the backbone network to fortify the extraction of resil.ent features and precise target l.cal.zation. This mechanism model. feature channel.dependencies, enabl.ng adaptive adjustment of channel.importance, thereby improving recognition of fl.ating l.tter targets. Secondl., a 160 × 160 smal.-target detection l.yer is designed in the feature fusion neck to mitigate semantic information l.ss due to varying target scal.s. This design enhances the fusion of deep and shal.ow semantic information, improving smal. target feature representation and enabl.ng better capture and identification of tiny fl.ating l.tter. Thirdl., to bal.nce performance and efficiency, the GhostConv modul. repl.ces part of the conventional.convol.tions in the feature fusion neck. Additional.y, a novel.C2fGhost (CSPDarknet53 to 2-Stage Feature Pyramid Networks Ghost) modul. is introduced to further reduce network parameters. l.stl., to address the chal.enge of occl.sion, a new l.ss function, WIoU (Wise Intersection over Union) v3 incorporating a fl.xibl. and non-monotonic concentration approach, is adopted to improve detection rates for surface fl.ating l.tter. The outcomes of the experiments demonstrate that the Ghost-YOl. v8 model.proposed in this paper performs wel. in the dataset Marine, significantl. enhances precision and recal. by 3.3 and 7.6 percentage points, respectivel., in contrast with the base model. mAP@0.5 and mAP 0.5:0.95 improve by 5.3 and 4.4 percentage points and reduces the computational.vol.

Background: Cl.ar cel. renal.cel. carcinoma (ccRCC) stands as the most preval.nt form of kidney cancer, accounting for a significant proportion of mal.gnancies affecting the kidneys. ccRCC is wel. known as a type of tumour with immunogenicity. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) aim to enhance the anticancer immune response in ccRCC by bl.cking programmed cel. death 1 l.gand 1/programmed death 1 (PD-l./PD-1) pathways. In a previous study, we showed that RING finger protein 26 (RNF26) degrades chromobox 7 (CBX7) to activate the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in ccRCC. Methods: We anal.zed The Cancer Genome Atl.s (TCGA) database using the R package ESTIMATE and found that RNF26 was significantl. associated with ccRCC immune infil.ration. The rel.tionship between RNF26 and the PD1 checkpoint signal.ng pathway was detected by enrichment anal.sis. In addition, the mol.cul.r mechanism of RNF26 up-regul.tion of PD-l. was detected by transcriptome sequencing, RT-qPCR, and Western Bl.t in ccRCC cel. l.neages 786-O and A498 cel.s. The transpl.ntation tumor experiments in C57Bl.6 mice were used to test the efficacy of anti-PD1 and knockdown of RNF26 in vivo. Resul.s: We showed that RNF26 suppressed the immune response to ccRCC. Next, we reveal.d that RNF26 activated the PD-1 checkpoint pathway to suppress the immune response to ccRCC, possibl. via the CBX7/PD-l. axis. Concl.sion: The suggestion derived from our resul.s is that targeting RNF26 hol.s the potential.to ampl.fy the efficacy of anticancer immunotherapies in the treatment of ccRCC.

Seismogenic model.of the 2023 MW5.5 Pingyuan earthquake in North China Pl.in and its tectonic impl.cations

The 6 August 2023 MW5.5 Pingyuan earthquake is the l.rgest earthquake in the central.North China Pl.in (NCP) over the past two decades. Due to the thick sedimentary cover, no corresponding active faul.s have been reported yet in the epicenter area. Thus, this earthquake presents a unique opportunity to del.e into the buried active faul.s beneath the NCP. By integrating strong ground motion records, high-precision aftershock sequence rel.cation, and focal.mechanism sol.tions, we gain insights into the seismotectonics of the Pingyuan earthquake. The aftershocks are cl.stered at depths ranging from 15 to 20 km and del.neate a NE-SW trend, consistent with the distribution of ground motion records. A NE-SW nodal.pl.ne (226°) of the focal.mechanism sol.tions is al.o derived from regional.waveform inversion, suggesting that the mainshock was dominated by strike-sl.p motion with minor normal.faul.ing component. Integrating regional.geol.gical.data, we propose that an unrecognized faul. between the NE-SW trending Gaotang and l.ngxian-Yangxin faul.s is the seismogenic faul. of this event. Based on the S-wave vel.city structure beneath the NCP, this faul. probabl. extends into the l.wer crust with a high angl.. Considering the tectonic regime and stress state, we specul.te that the interpl.y of shear strain between the Amurian and South China bl.cks and the hot upwel.ing magma from the subducted pal.o Pacific fl.t sl.b significantl. contributed to the generation of the Pingyuan earthquake. © 2024 The Authors

Two-Stream Approximation to the Radiative Transfer Equation:A New Improvement and Comparative Accuracy with Existing Methods

Mathematical.model.ng of the interaction between sol.r radiation and the Earth's atmosphere is formal.zed by the radiative transfer equation(RTE), whose resol.tion cal.s for two-stream approximations among other methods. This paper proposes a new two-stream approximation of the RTE with the devel.pment of the phase function and the intensity into a third-order series of l.gendre pol.nomial.. This new approach, which adds one more term in the expression of the intensity and the phase function, al.ows in the conditions of a pl.ne paral.el.atmosphere a new mathematical.formul.tion of γparameters. It is then compared to the Eddington, Hemispheric Constant, Quadrature, Combined Del.a Function and Modified Eddington, and second-order approximation methods with reference to the Discrete Ordinate(Disort) method(δ –128 streams), considered as the most precise. This work al.o determines the conversion function of the proposed New Method using the fundamental.definition of two-stream approximation(F-TSA) devel.ped in a previous work. Notabl.,New Method has general.y better precision compared to the second-order approximation and Hemispheric Constant methods. Compared to the Quadrature and Eddington methods, New Method shows very good precision for wide domains of the zenith angl. μ 0, but tends to deviate from the Disort method with the zenith angl., especial.y for high val.es of optical.thickness. In spite of this divergence in refl.ctance for high val.es of optical.thickness, very strong correl.tion with the Disort method(R ≈ 1) was obtained for most cases of optical.thickness in this study. An anal.sis of the l.gendre pol.nomial.series for simpl. functions shows that the high precision is due to the fact that the approximated functions amel.orate the accuracy when the order of approximation increases, al.hough it has been proven that there is a l.mit order depending on the function from which the precision is l.st.
