Estimating seasonal habitat suitability for migratory species in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea:A case study of Tanaka's snailfish(Liparis tanakae)

Acquiring a comprehensive and accurate understanding of habitat preference is essential for species conservation and fishery management,especially for mobile species that migrate *** and absence data from field surveys are recommended when available due to their high *** field survey data,we investigated seasonal habitat suitability requirements for Tanaka's snailfish(Liparis tanakae)in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea(BSYS)via a machine-learning method,random forests(RFs).Five environmental and biologically relevant variables(bottom temperature,bottom salinity,current velocity,depth and distance to shore)were used to build the ecological niches between the presence/absence data and suitable *** addition,the degree to which false absence data might impact model performance was *** results indicated that RFs provided accurate predictions,with seasonal habitat suitability maps of *** differing *** temperature and salinity were identified as important factors influencing the distribution of *** absence data were found to have negative effects on model performance and the decrease in evaluation metrics was usually significant(Pdded to the absence *** identifying highly suitable areas within its geographic range,our study provides a baseline for *** that can be further applied in ecosystem modelling and fishery management in the BSYS.

This paper describes a corpus-based investigation of dialogue *** particular,it attempts to answer questions about the empirical distribution of dialogue acts in a publicly accessible corpus of transcribed conversations and degrees of lexical similarity of dialogue *** research will not only lend itself to a deeper understanding of the lexical realisation of dialogue acts as communicative functions but also contribute towards dialogue act *** Switchboard dialogue Act Corpus is adopted and the SWBd-dAMSL tags used for the *** statistical measures were applied,which include lexical dispersion and lexical similarity using Chi by degrees of freedom(CBdF).We show that the distribution of dAs is uneven,that a majority of the word types occur in one dA and that only a small fraction of word types are commonly used by all the *** hierarchical clustering of dAs based on CBdF suggests that there is an intrinsic structure of dAs pertaining to fact finding and verification,information provision and inter-speaker agreement and affinity *** paper concludes with discussions and suggestions for future work.

The effect of ionospheric delay on the ground-based augmentation system under normal conditions can be mitigated by determining the value of the nominal ionospheric gradient(σvig).The nominal ionospheric gradient is generally obtained from Continuously Operating Reference Stations data by using the spatial single-difference method(mixed-pair,station-pair,or satellite-pair)or the temporal single-difference method(time-step).The time-step method uses only a single receiver,but it still contains ionospheric temporal *** introduce a corrected time-step method using a fixed-ionospheric pierce point from the geostationary equatorial orbit satellite and test it through simulations based on the global ionospheric *** also investigate the effect of satellite paths on the corrected time-step method in the region of the equator,which tends to be in a more north–south direction and to have less coverage for the east–west ionospheric *** study also addresses the limitations of temporal variation correction coverage and recommends using only the correction from *** processes are developed under simulations because observational data are still difficult to *** findings demonstrate that the corrected time-step method yieldsσvig values consistent with other approaches.

Experiments using electrical resistivity tomography(ERT) have shown promising results in reducing the uncertainty of solute plume characteristics related to estimates based on the analysis of local point measurements *** explore the similarities and differences between two cross-borehole ERT inversion approaches for characterizing salt tracer plumes,namely the classical smoothness-constrained inversion and a geostatistically based approach,we performed two-dimensional synthetic *** assumptions about the solute transport model and the electrical forward and inverse model allowed us to study the sensitivity of the ERT inversion approaches towards a variety of basic conditions,including the number of boreholes,measurement schemes,contrast between the plume and background electrical conductivity,use of a priori knowledge,and point *** results show that geostatistically based and smoothness-constrained inversions of electrical resistance data yield plume characteristics of similar quality,which can be further improved when point measurements are incorporated and advantageous measurement schemes are *** expected,an increased number of boreholes included in the ERT measurement layout can highly improve the quality of inferred plume characteristics,while in this case the benefits of point conditioning and advantageous measurement schemes *** ERT inversion approaches are similarly sensitive to the noise level of the data and the contrast between the solute plume and background electrical conductivity,and robust with regard to biased input parameters,such as mean concentration,variance,and correlation length of the *** sophisticated inversion schemes have recently become available,in which flow and transport as well as electrical forward models are coupled,these schemes effectively rely on a relatively simple geometrical parameterization of the hydrogeological ***,we believe that standard uncoupled ER

Browsing by large herbivores might either increase or decrease preference for the plant by other herbivores,depending on the plant *** a cafeteria test,we studied the preference by root voles(Microtus oeconomus[Pallas,1776])for bilberry(Vaccinium myrtillus L.)previously subjected to 4 levels of simulated moose(Alces alces[Linnaeus,1758])*** different levels of moose density were simulated at population densities relevant for Fennoscandian conditions,in exclosures situated along a site productivity *** expected:(i)voles to prefer bilberry from high productivity sites over low productivity sites;(ii)voles to prefer browsed bilberry,if plants allocate resources to compensatory growth or to avoid browsed bilberry if plants allocate resources to defense;(iii)these effects to increase with increasing simulated moose density;and(iv)the concentration of plant chemicals and the plant morphology to explain vole ***,we predicted that voles would prefer:(i)plants with high nitrogen content;(ii)plants with low content of defensive substances;and(iii)tall plants with long *** preferred bilberry from the high productivity sites compared to the low productivity *** also found an interaction between site productivity and simulated moose density,where voles preferred unbrowsed plants at low productivity sites and intermediate levels of browsing at high productivity *** was no effect of plant chemistry or morphology on vole *** conclude that moose browsing impacts the food preference of *** the current high densities of moose in Fennoscandia,this could potentially influence vole food selection and population dynamics over large geographical areas.

Tree growth traits （tree height, dBH and stem volume） and survival from two 9-year-old, open-pollinated progeny tests of Chinese fir were investigated for heri- tability, genotype × environment interaction, age-age genetic correlation and selection efficiency. The 97 and 79 families planted at two sites were collected from the thirdcycle seed orchard. Individual heritability was estimated between 0.05 and 0.21 for tree height, dBH, and volume and between 0.45 and 1.0 for survival. Family heritability was between 0.20 and 1.14. Significant genotype x envi- ronment interaction was observed for the three growth traits. Type B genetic correlation was between 0.41 and 0.67 with an increasing trend as tree grows. High age-age genetic correlation was observed with correlation reaching 0.9 after age 4 for height, dBH, and volume. The genetic gains were estimated at 3.26, 3.39 and 5.98 % for tree height, dBH, and volume with 10 % selection intensity. The implication for advanced tree breeding in Chinese fir is discussed.

Spatial and temporal variations in prehistoric human settlement and their influencing factors on the south bank of the Xar Moron River, Northeastern China

The West Liao River Basin is the hub of ancient civilizations as well as the birthplace of rain-fed agriculture in Northern China. In the present study, based on 276 archaeological sites on the south bank of the Xar Moron River, Northeastern China, we trace the changes in prehistoric cultures as well as the shifts in the spatial and temporal patterns of human settlement in the West Liao River Basin. Location information for those sites was obtained from fieldwork. Factors such as climate change, landform evolution of the Horqin dunefield, and sub- sistence strategies practiced at the sites were extracted via the meta-analysis of published literature. Our results show that the Holocene Optimum promoted the emergence of Neolithic Culture on the south bank of the Xar Moron River. Monsoon failure might have caused the periodic collapse or transformation of prehistoric cultures at （6.5, 4.7, 3.9, and 3.0） kyr B.P., leaving spaces for new cultural types to develop after these gaps. The rise and fall of different cultures was also determined by subsistence strategies. The Xiaoheyan Culture, with mixed modes of subsistence, weakened after 4.7 kyr B.P., whereas the Upper Xiajiadian Culture, supported by sheep breeding, expanded after 3.0 kyr B.P. Global positioning system data obtained from the archaeological sites reveal that cultures with different subsistence strategies occupied distinct geographic regions. Humans who subsisted on hunting and gathering resided at higher altitudes during the Paleolithic Age （1074 m a.s.1.）. Mixed subsistence strategies led humans to settle down at 600-1000 m a.s.1. in the Neolithic Age. Agricultural activities caused humans to migrate to 400-800 m a.s.1, in the early Bronze Age, whereas livestock production shifted human activities to 800-1200 m a.s.l, in the late Bronze Age.

The 1991 Booker Prize--winning novelist Ben Okri, while traveling in the deep South after Barack Obama＇s victory in the November 2008 presidential election, wrote that Elvis Presley was a lingering deity in the city of Memphis. The images of Elvis Presley, who earned the sobriquet ＂King of Rock＂ early in his career, and that of B. B. King, the exemplar extraordinaire of the Blues, are ubiquitous in the city of Memphis, which may be regarded as a metonym for the Blues and Rock ＇n Roll. The byline for the city of Memphis is, ＂Home of the Blues, Birthplace of Rock ＇n Roll＂, and this fact announces itself to the visitor as soon as he/she enters the arrivals concourse of the Memphis International Airport. As one proceeds towards the baggage claims area, the images which saturate the walkway create an aura that is redolent of the city＇s vibrant Rock ＇n Roll era. drawing on Foucault＇s notion of heterotopias, as well as Jakobson＇s work on metonymy, this paper explores the hybrid musical spatiality of the city of Memphis and its environs, as well as its iconic status in the evolution of Rock ＇n Roll which was engendered by the Blues.
