Yield and Quality Response of Ryegrass, Egyptian Clover and Their Mixtures to Different Sources of Fertilizers

Two field experiments were conducted during two successive winter seasons of 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 to investigate the potentialities of mixing Egyptian clover with ryegrass under bio, organic and mineral fertilization treatments and their combination to increase forage yield and quality grown under sandy soil conditions. The experiment included the combination of five mixing ratios (Egyptian clover alone, ryegrass alone, 75% Egyptian clover: 25% ryegrass, 50% Egyptian clover: 50% ryegrass and 25% Egyptian clover: 75% ryegrass) and eight fertilizer sources, which include control, organic fertilization, bio fertilization, chemical fertilizer, organic + bio fertilizer, organic + chemical fertilizer, bio + chemical fertilizer and combination of organic and chemical and bio fertilizers. The obtained results indicate the superiority of 75% E. clover: 25% ryegrass mixture fertilizedby Bio + O + N in fresh and dry forage production. On the other hand, it reported the lowest dry weight of weeds g/m2. Chemical analysis of forage plants showed that the mixture of ?75% E. clover: 25% ryegrass surpassed that of other treatments yield for crude protein, ether extract and ash. The results also revealed that the highest record of DCP, crude fiber and TDNY was obtained by forage mixture of 75% E. clover: 25% ryegrass fertilized with Bio + O + N. Such higher yield of these characters hassecured a balanced ratio which is really needed for ruminants ration.

The bioactive triterpenoid 3-oxo-6-β-hydroxy-β-amyrin(1)has been isolated from multiple plant *** this study,chloroform fraction of Pistacia integerrima extract was processed for the isolation of the *** compound identity was confirmed by advanced spectroscopy technique.X-ray crystallography was applied for molecular structure *** addition,compound 1 was screen for its activity on reversal of MDR(multidrug resistance)mediated by P-gp(P-glycoprotein).This was accomplished by using rhodamine123 exclusion on multidrug-resistant human ABCB1 gene transfected mouse T-lymphoma cell *** revealed that MDR reversing effect was comparable to verapamil as positive control in *** of TPA-induced tumor promotion with 3-oxo-6β-hydroxy-β-amyrin led to reduction in the applied anti-tumor promotion *** chemo-preventive effect of 3-oxo-6β-hydroxy-β-amyrin was comparable to curcumin as positive control based on the reduction of immediate early tumor antigen *** docking by applying Autodock Vina 1 and i-GEMDOCK v 2.1 tools indicated that compound 1 gives good docking results,as determined by their fitness score and ***,results showed that compound 1 isolated from Pistacia integerrima precisely attached to a region where co-crystallized ligand for receptor previously *** findings may explain the use of Pistacia integerrima plant extracts as an anticancer agent in folk medicine.

Determining soil organic carbon concentration in agricultural fields using a handheld spectroradiometer:Implication for soil fertility measurement

The soil organic carbon(SOC)plays a vital role in plant growth and development,and therefore is considered as one of the most important indicators of soil *** study was carried out in the central region of Saudi Arabia to explore the potential of spectroscopy in determining the SOC concentration in low-fertility *** reflectance data were collected,under the controlled laboratory conditions on 39 air-dried 2.0 mm sieved soil samples,using a handheld spectroradiometer of a wavelength range between 350 nm and 2500 nm in the direct contact probe *** concentration of the SOC was determined using the Walkley and Black(W&B)and the UV-VIS spectrophotometric *** increase in the concentration of SOC was associated with a decrease in the corresponding spectral *** analysis showed linear relationships with high significant correlation between the spectral reflectance and the SOC measured by both the UV-VIS(Model-1:R^(2)=0.46,p=0.00015 and RMSE=6.6 g/kg)and the W&B(Model-2:R^(2)=0.48,p=8.92E-05 and RMSE=2.8 g/kg)*** these models,two wavebands with wavelengths of 2167 nm(Model-1)and 1359 nm(Model-2)were identified as the most sensitive bands to the SOC *** cross-validation confirmed the validity of Model-1 with R^(2),p and RMSE values of 0.50,0.0099 and 6.6 g/kg,*** validation results of the Model-2 showed values of R^(2),p and RMSE of 0.72,0.00023 and 4.0 g/kg,*** of this study revealed the possibility and the potential of using the spectral reflectance technique in predicting the concentration of SOC.

Impacts of center pivot irrigation system uniformity on growth of potato crop and residual soil nitrogen

Maintaining the homogeneity of soil nitrogen(N)and plant vigor across agricultural fields is a major concern for farmers and agricultural scheme planners,particularly fields that are irrigated through pressurized systems,such as center ***,this study was carried out on a 30 hm2 potato field located 650 km south of Riyadh,the capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,to investigate the impacts of the center pivot irrigation distribution uniformity on the crop development and the spatial distribution of residual soil *** performance test was designed to investigate water application rate and distribution *** overall water application uniformity coefficients(Cu),determined through Christiansen(Cud)and Heerman(CuH)methods,were determined at 81.29%and 80.64%,***,the overall water distribution uniformity(Du)was determined at 70%.A considerable variability in the distribution uniformity of irrigation water was observed across the experimental field(a Du value of 67%over the medium spans compared to a Du value of 88%over the inner spans).Results of this study showed a linear correlation between the irrigation water distribution uniformity and the soil N(R^(2)=0.88).On the other hand,the vegetation cover distribution,indicated by the Cumulative Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(CNDVI),was not found to be much responsive to the irrigation distribution uniformity(R^(2)=0.11).A time series of successive NDVI maps extracted throughout the potato crop growth stages showed a consistent trend in the distribution of NDVI across the field,with R2 values that ranged between 0.25-0.73.

Heavy metal adsorption of Streptomyces chromofuscus K101

Objective:To find the best actinomycete that has potential application value in the heavy metal remediation due to its special morphological and physiological ***:In some areas of River Nile,Egypt,a total of 67 actinomycete isolates(17 isolates from surface water and 50 from sediment)were *** addition,the studied area was characterized by a large amount of submerged macrophyte species Ceratophyllum demersum,one free floating species Eichhornia crassipes and two emergent species Polygonum tomentosum and Saccharum spontaneum with the highest biomass production *** methods are used in this research like qualitative evaluation of heavy metals,minimum inhibitory concentration of heavy metal determination,metal binding assay,heavy metal assessment,***:Many actinomycetes isolates were isolated from River Nile,Egypt,the absorbent efficiency of one isolate Streptomyces chromofuscusK101 showed the most efficient metal binding *** adsorption process of Zn^(^(2+)),Pb^(2+)and Fe^(2+)single or mixture metal ions was investigated,where the order of adsorption potential(Zn^(2+)>Pb^(2+)>Fe^(2+))was observed in single metal *** adsorption in mixed metal reactions was the same order as in single-metal ion with a significant decrease in Fe^(2+)and Pb^(2+)***:In conclusion the metal adsorption reactions were very fast,pH dependent and culture age-independent,suggestive of a physicochemical reaction between cell wall components and heavy metal *** absorbent removal efficiency was determined as a function of ion concentration,pH and temperature.

Preliminary Assessment of Goat Piroplasmosis in Benadir Region, Somalia

Haemoparasites are major-constraints on livestock production in tropical and sub-tropical countries. This study was conducted during 2012-2013 to determine the prevalence of blood parasites in goats of small-holders in Benadir region, Somalia and update epidemiological data that had already lost during the civil war in the country. A total of 100 blood samples were collected from goat in Wadajir (47 goat) and Dharkeynley (53 goat) districts, using venipuncture of jugular vein. The samples were examined for the presence of blood parasites using light microscopy. Some ticks when presented in the sampled animals—were also collected for tick identification. Analysis of blood smears revealed 100% samples positive for blood parasites. Out of these cases, 22 samples (22%) were harboring single infection of Babesia spp. and 14 samples (14%) were having single infection of Theileria spp. Interestingly the Remaining 64 blood samples (64%) showed mixed infection of Babesia spp. with Theileria spp. Rhipicephalus evertsi (72.84%), Rhipicephalus pulchellus (34.57%), Amblyomma lepidum (3.70%) and Hyalomma rufipes (1.23%) were identified from the investigated goats. In conclusion, the findings of this study indicated that, the prevalence of tick and tick-borne diseases were considered to be high in Benadir region of Somalia. A further area wide in-depth study is recommended in the country.
