Gene and protein expression profiles of olfactory ensheathing cells from olfactory bulb versus olfactory mucosa

Olfactory ensheathing cells(OECs) from the olfactory bulb(OB) and the olfactory mucosa(OM) have the capacity to repair nerve injury. However, the difference in the therapeutic effect between OB-derived OECs and OM-derived OECs remains unclear. In this study, we extracted OECs from OB and OM and compared the gene and protein expression profiles of the cells using transcriptomics and non-quantitative proteomics techniques. The results revealed that both OB-derived OECs and OM-derived OECs highly expressed genes and proteins that regulate cell growth, proliferation, apoptosis and vascular endothelial cell regeneration. The differentially expressed genes and proteins of OB-derived OECs play a key role in regulation of nerve regeneration and axon regeneration and extension, transmission of nerve impulses and response to axon injury. The differentially expressed genes and proteins of OM-derived OECs mainly participate in the positive regulation of inflammatory response, defense response, cytokine binding, cell migration and wound healing. These findings suggest that differentially expressed genes and proteins may explain why OB-derived OECs and OM-derived OECs exhibit different therapeutic roles. This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University(approval No. 2017-073) on February 13, 2017.

Syntrophic co-culture of Bacillus subtilis and Klebsiella pneumonia for degradation of kraft lignin discharged from rayon grade pulp industry

In order to search the degradability of kraft lignin, the potential bacterial strains Bacillus subtilis（GU193980） and Klebsiella pneumoniae（GU193981） were isolated, screened and applied in axenic and co-culture conditions. Results revealed that mixed culture showed better decolorization efficiency（80%） and reduction of pollution parameters（COD 73% and BOD62%） than axenic culture. This indicated syntrophic growth of these two bacteria rather than any antagonistic effect. The HPLC analysis of degraded samples of kraft lignin has shown the reduction in peak area compared to control, suggesting that decrease in color intensity might be largely attributed to the degradation of lignin by isolated ***, the GC-MS analysis showed that most of the compounds detected in control were diminished after bacterial treatment. Further, the seed germination test using Phaseolus aureus has supported the detoxification of bacterial decolorized kraft lignin for environmental safety. All these observations have revealed that the developed bacterial co-culture was capable for the effective degradation and decolorization of lignin containing rayon grade pulp mill wastewater for environmental safety.

A New Approach in Design of a Pavement Reinforced by A Geosynthetic Layer in Severely Stressed Area of the Airport Pavement to Accommodate Stresses Imposed by Aircraft Landing and Ground Movements

Pavements of airport runway and apron are subjected to stern stresses imposed by landing and ground movements of aircraft. The stresses are primarily concentrated in touchdown zone and wheel path areas of the pavement structure. This paper proposes that this area can be designed using geosynthetic layer reinforcement to minimise deflection and deterioration of the structure. The reinforcement can reduce the vertical stresses on the underground fuel pipes in the apron area, if used. The concept of ditch conduit reinforcement is suggested where a geosynthetic layer is used within a soil backfill to redistribute load over a conduit leading to stress redistribution. It is observed that the vertical load is significantly reduced by the arching action of the soil mass overlying the conduit. The load can be reduced further by placing a geosynthetic reinforcement layer within the soil backfill above the conduit. It is suggested that the inclusion of a geosynthetic layer in the granular backfill reduces the vertical load on a ditch conduit and the amount of reduction depends upon the tensile modulus, deflection of the geosynthetic and soil arching action. This leads to believe that a reinforced pavement structure for runway and aerodrome apron area improves the load carrying capacity of the pavement to sustain the operations of heavy transport aircraft, including occasional overloading of the pavement. Hence, this paper explores a possibility of using a geosynthetic layer under the runway pavement to provide reinforcement.

The temporal fluctuations and development of faecal microbiota in commercial layer flocks

The microbiota of the gastrointestinal tract influences gut health,which in turn strongly impacts the general health and productivity of laying *** is essential to characterise the composition and temporal development of the gut microbiota in healthy layers raised under different management systems,to understand the variations in typical healthy microbiota structure,so that deviations from this might be recognised and correlated with production and health issues when they *** present investigation aimed to study the temporal development and phylogenetic composition of the gut microbiota of four commercially raised layer flocks from hatch to end of the production ***-intrusive faecal sampling was undertaken as a proxy to represent the gut *** of 16S rRNA gene amplicons was used to characterise the *** diversity analysis indicated that each faecal microbiota was different across the four flocks and had subtly different temporal development *** these inter-flock differences,common patterns of microbiota development were *** and Proteobacteria were dominant at an early age in all *** microbiota developed gradually during the rearing phase;richness and diversity increased after 42 d of age and then underwent significant changes in composition after the shift to the production farms,with Bacteroidota becoming more dominant in older *** developing a more profound knowledge of normal microbiota development in layers,opportunities to harness the microbiota to aid in the management of layer gut health and productivity may be more clearly seen and realised.

Bianchi-V string cosmological model and late time acceleration

We have searched for the existence of the late time acceleration of the universe with string fluid as the source of matter in Bianchi-V space-time. To derive a deterministic solution, we choose the scale factor to be an increasing function of time that yields a time dependent deceleration parameter, representing a model which generates a universe showing a transition from an early decelerating phase to a recent accelerating phase. The study reveals that strings dominate the early universe and eventually disappear from the universe for sufficiently large times, i.e. in the present epoch. This picture is consistent with current astronomical observations. The physical behavior of the universe is discussed in detail.

Anisotropic massive strings in the scalar-tensor theory of gravitation

We present the model of an anisotropic universe with string fluid as the source of matter within the framework of the scalar-tensor theory of gravitation. An exact solution of field equations is obtained by applying Berman＇s law of variation to Hubble＇s parameter which yields a constant value of the deceleration parameter. The nature of classical potential is examined for the model under consideration. It has also been found that the massive strings dominate in the early universe and finally disap-pear from the universe. This is in agreement with current astronomical observations. The physical and dynamical properties of the model are also discussed.

Development and experimental investigation of duplex turning process

The aim of the present study was to develop a novel turning process with the simultaneous application of two cutting tools in place of a single cutting tool during machining of rotating surfaces. This process is referred to as duplex turning, and is used to eliminate the need for a secondary final cut operation following the turning process. To achieve this, a secondary （auxiliary） tool post is mounted on the cross slide of the centre lathe machine after fabrication. The secondary tool post is used to hold a secondary cutting tool that penetrates the workpiece from opposite side of the primary cutting tool to perform the finish cut operation during turn machining of the cylin- drical workpiece. The performance of the developed process was tested on AISI 1040 alloy steel, using two single point cutting tools made of high speed steel. The effects of cutting velocity, feed rate, primary depth of cut and secondary depth of cut were analyzed and discussed with regard to average surface roughness, and were also compared with normal turning process. From the results, it was concluded that duplex turning process was capable of providing better surface finishes compared to those generated by normal turning. It was also found that higher cutting velocity yielded better surface finishes within the determined ranges of the selected parameters.

Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)are used in numerous engineering and scientific disciplines as an automated approach to resolve a number of ***,to build an artificial neural network that is prudent enough to rely on,vast quantities of relevant data have to be *** this study,we analysed the scope of artificial neural networks in geothermal reservoir *** particular,we attempted to solve joint inversion problem through Feedforward Neural Network(FNN)*** order to identify geothermal sweet spots in the subsurface,an extensive geophysical studies were conducted in Gandhar area of Gujarat,*** data were acquired along six profile lines for gravity,magnetics and *** low velocity zone was identified using refraction seismic technique in order to set a common datum level for other potential *** depth of low velocity zone in Gandhar was identified at 11 *** FNN backpropagation method was applied to gain the global minima of the data space and model space as *** input dataset fed to the inversion algorithm in the form of gravity,magnetic susceptibility and resistivity helped to predict the suitable model after network training in multiple *** joint inversion of data is conducive to understanding the subsurface geological and lithological features along with probable geothermal sweet *** results of this study show the geothermal sweet spots at depth ranging from 200 m to 300 *** results from our study can be used for targeted zones for geothermal water exploitation.
