Atomic-Scale Friction Studies on Single-Crystal Gallium Arsenide Using Atomic Force microscope and molecular Dynamics Simulation

This paper provides a fresh perspective and new insights into nanoscale friction by investigating it through molecular dynamics(mD)simulation and atomic force microscope(AFm)nanoscratch *** work considered gallium arsenide,an importantⅢ-Ⅴdirect bandgap semiconductor material residing in the zincblende structure,as a reference sample material due to its growing usage in 5G communication *** the simulations,the scratch depth was tested as a variable in the fine range of 0.5-3 nm to understand the behavior of material removal and to gain insights into the nanoscale *** force,normal force,and average cutting forces were extracted from the simulation to obtain two scalar quantities,namely,the scratch cutting energy(defined as the work performed to remove a unit volume of material)and the kinetic coefficient of friction(defined as the force ratio).A strong size effect was observed for scratch depths below 2 nm from the mD simulations and about 15 nm from the AFm experiments.A strong quantitative corroboration was obtained between the specific scratch energy determined by the mD simulations and the AFm experiments,and more qualitative corroboration was derived for the pile-up and the kinetic coefficient of *** conclusion suggests that the specific scratch energy is insensitive to the tool geometry and the scratch speed used in this ***,the pile-up and kinetic coefficient of friction are dependent on the geometry of the tool tip.

DC microgrids(DCmGs)are made up of a network of sources and loads that are connected by a number of power electronic converters(PECs).The increase in the number of these PECs instigates major concerns in system *** interconnecting the microgrids to form a cluster,the system stability must be *** paper proposes a novel stepby-step system matrix building(SmB)algorithm to update the system matrix of an existing DCmG cluster when a new microgrid is added to the cluster through a distribution *** stability of the individual DCmGs and the DCmG cluster is analyzed using the eigenvalue ***,the particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm is used to retune the controller gains if the newly formed cluster is not *** simulation of the DCmG cluster is carried out in mATLAB/Simulink environment to test the proposed *** results are also validated using the OP4510 real-time simulator(RTS).

Well productivity in the Asmari carbonate formation of southwest Iran has decreased in recent years as a result of production *** production rate must be maintained below 1500 STB/day to prevent water *** this study,a gas lift well is modeled using data from one of the producing wells of this *** analysis is performed using lift-gas injection rates and wellhead pressures at different reservoir pressures and water cut conditions to optimize *** aspects are considered to optimize the artificial gas injection rates at different tubing head pressures and water cut *** the lift-gas injection rate from 0.4 mmscf/day to 1 mmscf/day enhances the oil production rate by 37.71%and 43.89%for 10%and 30%water cut conditions,*** injection rates of 5.2 mmscf/day and 5.4 mmscf/day are determined to be economically optimal for 30%water cut with tubing head pressures of 260 psig and 270 psig,respectively.

Expanding the Use of Nipple-Sparing mastectomies in Obese Patients Undergoing Staged Implant-Based Reconstruction

Background: Advantages of various mastectomy techniques include skin reduction and favorable aesthetics in Wise-pattern closures, and less visible scars in nipple-sparing mastectomies (NSm). This study compares postoperative complication profiles between Wise-pattern and nipple-sparing mastectomies in the obese population. methods: A retrospective chart review of obese patients (BmI ≥ 30) who underwent staged breast reconstruction following Wise-pattern and nipple-sparing mastectomies at our institution between February 2016 and January 2020 was conducted. Complications between cohorts were analyzed using the independent samples t-test (2-sided) and the χ2 test. Results: A total of 232 breasts (163 Wise-pattern, 69 NSm) were re-constructed in 123 obese female patients (85 Wise-pattern, 38 NSm). Complication rates in both the Wise-pattern and NSm patient cohorts were similar following stage 1 (Wise-pattern: 30.7%, NSm: 39.1%, p = 0.212) and stage 2 (Wise-pattern: 16.6%, NSm: 15.9%, p = 0.907) of reconstruction. No statistically significant differences in rates of infection, dehiscence, seroma, hematoma or malposition of tissue expander (TE)/implant following stage 1 or stage 2 were found between cohorts. Conclusions: There were no significant differences in postoperative complication rates between the Wise-pattern and NSm cohorts of obese patients. NSm can be a viable surgical option in carefully selected obese patients and offer the advantage of concealed scarring.

Primary and Secondary microplastic and Nanoplastic Regulations: Perspectives on Water Industry Impacts

Plastic pollution, both primary and secondary, is an environmental challenge, prompting regulatory actions at global and regional levels. With increasing research about the impacts of micro- and nanoplastics on ecosystems and human health, governments worldwide have undertaken efforts to address this issue. The global community has advanced regulatory efforts that have led to the implementation of national laws or regulations in numerous countries. These measures ban or restrict the use of primary and secondary microplastics and nanoplastics. An overview of global and European regulatory frameworks is presented to provide context for the United States (US). In the endeavor to document plastics regulation development in the US, a description of regulatory agencies and their roles in advancing policy and rules as well as future direction and areas for improvement in regulating plastics are introduced. A discussion of what emerging regulations mean to utilities and industries is also provided along with a comparison of regulatory frameworks.

Biphasic layered oxide cathodes,known for their superior electrochemical performance,are prime candidates for commercializing in Na-ion ***,we unveil a series of P3/P2 monophasic and biphasic Al-substituted Na_(3/4)mn_(5-x/8)Al_(2x/8)Ni_(3-x/8)O_(2)layered oxide cathodes that lie along the‘zero mn^(3+)line’in the Na_(3/4)(mn-Al-Ni)O_(2)pseudo-ternary *** structural analysis showed a larger Na^(+)conduction bottleneck area in both P3 and P2 structures with a higher Al3+content,which enhanced their rate *** each composition,the P3/P2 biphasic compound with nearly equal fractions of P3 and P2 phases outperformed their monophasic counterparts in almost all electrochemical performance *** synchrotron XRD measurements obtained for the monophasic P3 and biphasic P2/P3 samples revealed the absence of the O3 phase during *** high structure stability and faster Na^(+)transport kinetics in the biphasic samples underpins the enhancement of electrochemical properties in the Al-substituted P3/P2 *** results highlight fixed oxidation state lines as a novel tool to identify and design layered oxide cathodes for Na-ion batteries in pseudo-ternary diagrams involving Jahn-Teller active cations.

Diversity and trait-specific sources for productivity and nutritional traits in the global proso millet(Panicum miliaceum L.) germplasm collection

Proso millet is an important short-duration crop that adapts well to varied climatic conditions and is grown worldwide for food,feed and fodder *** to a lack of genetic improvement,the crop has experienced no yield improvement and provides low income to *** this study,200 accessions of proso millet originating in 30 countries were evaluated in two rainy seasons to assess phenotypic diversity for morpho-agronomic and grain nutritional traits and to identify high grain-yielding and grain nutrient-rich *** millet diversity was structured by geographical region,by country within region,and by racial *** patentissimum showed high diversity and ovatum low diversity,and diverged widely from each *** lowest divergence was observed between races compactum and *** high grain-yielding,10 large-seeded,and 26 two or more grain nutrients-rich accessions were identified,and highly diverse pairs of accessions within and between trait groups were *** included IPm 9 and IPm2661 for high grain yield and large seed size;and IPm 2069,IPm 2076,and IPm 2537 for high Fe,Zn,Ca,and protein *** 2875 had a seed coat that is readily removed by *** study provides valuable information to proso millet researchers about agronomic and nutritional traits in accessions that could be tested for regional adaption and yield for direct release as cultivars,and could be used in breeding for developing high grain-yielding and nutrient-rich cultivars.

Characterization of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) collection using quantitative and qualitative traits in the mediterranean Basin

This study was conducted to determine the genetic diversity and relationship among 256 groundnut genotypes of which 132 belong to subsp, hypogaea （Arachis hypogaea L.） and 124 to subsp, fastigiata （Arachis fastigiata L.）. The collection was evaluated for eight quantitative and five qualitative traits during three consecutive years under mediterranean climate conditions. Coefficient of variation （CV） significantly differed among the genotypes for all the studied quantitative traits ranged from 9.10 to 33.98%, while the highest CV was recorded for seed yield. The subspecies of hypogaea and fastigiata displayed significant differences for quantitative traits except for numbers of pods per plant and seed yield. Principal com- ponent analyses showed that the first three principal components accounted for 68.14% variation for quantitative traits. major traits that accounted for the variation by the three principal components （PCs） include days to the first flowering, days to 50% flowering, number of pods per plant and shelling percentage. The groundnut collection also offers wide seed coat color diversity which affects the crop marketability. The information on variations in quantitative and qualitative traits identified in the present investigation provided useful genotypes which would be serving parents. These parental genotypes can be used in groundnut breeding programs to develop desirable cultivars in mediterranean Basin and globally.
