Occupational health risks among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in Saudi Arabia: preparing for the future pandemics

Background:This study aimed to assess the occupational risks encountered by Healthcare Workers(HCWs)in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 ***:A cross-sectional survey was carried out from May to October *** a multi-stage stratified random sampling technique,an online questionnaire was sent to the recruited HCWs,across Saudi ***:Of the 768 HCWs recruited,702 participated in the survey.A significant majority(over 80%)reported working beyond 8 hours ***-19 infection,confirmed via PCR,was identified in 25%of the ***,infection was significantly correlated with direct or close contact(p=0.0007).Psychological distress was reported by 81%,with anxiety being the most prevalent(33%),followed by stress(19%),depression(17%),and insomnia(12%).Around 20%experienced headaches post-PPE use,while 14%reported adverse skin reactions,predominantly allergy and dermatitis.A concerning one-third of respondents reported exposure to ***:High infection rate,physical and psychological risks among HCWs especially those in direct contact with patients,reflect the need for enhancing the entirety of outbreak preparedness and response,specifically *** surveillance system,is crucial to adequately monitor and support HCWs during pandemic scenarios.

Intrusion Detection System(IDS)plays a crucial role in detecting and identifying the DoS and DDoS type of attacks on IoT ***,anomaly-based techniques do not provide acceptable accuracy for efficacious intrusion ***,we found many difficulty levels when applying IDS to IoT devices for identifying attempted *** this background,we designed a solution to detect intrusions using the Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)for Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution(EDGE)*** created two separate categories to handle the attack and non-attack events in the *** findings of this study indicate that this approach was significantly *** attempted both multiclass and binary *** the case of binary,we clustered all malicious traffic data in a single ***,we developed 13 layers of Sequential 1-D CNN for IDS detection and assessed them on the public dataset *** Component Analysis(PCA)was implemented to decrease the size of the feature vector based on feature extraction and *** approach proposed in the current investigation obtained accuracies of 99.34%and 99.13%for binary and multiclass classification,respectively,for the NSL-KDD *** experimental outcomes showed that the proposed Principal Component-based Convolution Neural Network(PCCNN)approach achieved greater precision based on deep learning and has potential use in modern intrusion detection for IoT systems.

Amelioration of paracetamol hepatotoxicity and oxidative stress on mice liver with silymarin and Nigella sativa extract supplements

Objective: To evaluate the ameliorator property of silymarin or/and Nigella sativa(N. sativa) extract against N-acetyl-p-aminophenol(APAP)-induced injury in male mice at the biochemical, histological and ultrastructural ***: The mice were divided into seven groups(10/group). The first group was served as control. While, the second group was treated with dose of APAP. The third and fourth groups were treated with silymarin alone and N. sativa extract alone respectively. The fifth and sixth groups were treated with combination of APAP with silymarin and APAP with N. sativa extract respectively. The seventh group was treated with combination of both ameliorative compounds(silymarin and N. sativa extract) with APAP and all animals were treated for a period of 30 days. Results: Exposure to APAP at the treated dose to mice led to an alteration of liver functions, increased the alanine transaminase, aspartate aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase levels, decreased total protein level as well as the increasing the superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde while decreased catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reduced activities. The effects of APAP on the biochemical parameters of mice were dose-dependent. Administration of silymarin or/and N. sativa extract to APAP-treated mice attenuates the toxicity of this compound, objectified by biochemical, histological and ultrastructural improvement of liver. But the alleviation was more pronounced with the both antioxidants. Conclusions: The synergistic effect of silymarin and N. sativa extract is the most powerful in reducing the toxicity induced by APAP and improving the liver functions and antioxidant capacities of mice.

In this paper,a new proposal for the implementation of the well-known direct power control(DPC)technique in grid-connected photovoltaic(PV)systems is ***,the DPC is executed using a look-up table procedure based on the error between the actual and reference values of the active and reactive ***,the structure of the DPC is simple and results in a fast transient behavior of the inner current loop(injected currents).Therefore,in the current study,the DPC is reformulated using a dead-beat *** this formulation,the reference voltage vector(RVV)is obtained in theα-βreference ***,the switching states for the inverter can be obtained based on the sign of the components of the *** suggested DPC is compared with the conventional one and other switching tables,which are intended for performance ***,an extended Kalman filter(EKF)is utilized to eliminate all grid-voltage ***,the switching frequency of the proposed technique is minimized without any need for weighting factors or cost function *** overall control technique is validated using a hardware-in-the-loop(HIL)experimental set-up and compared with other schemes under different operating conditions.

Thermally modified organic materials commonly known as biochar have gained popularity of being used as a soil *** information, however, is available on the role of biochar in alleviating the negative impacts of saline water on soil productivity and plant growth. This study, therefore, was conducted to investigate the effects of Conocarpus biochar(BC) and organic farm residues(FR) at different application rates of 0.0%(control), 4.0% and 8.0%(weight/weight) on yield and quality of tomatoes grown on a sandy soil under drip irrigation with saline or non-saline water. The availability of P, K, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu to plants was also investigated. The results demonstrated clearly that addition of BC or FR increased the vegetative growth, yield and quality parameters in all irrigation treatments. It was found that salt stress adversely affected soil productivity, as indicated by the lower vegetative growth and yield components of tomato plants. However, this suppressing effect on the vegetative growth and yield tended to decline with application of FR or BC, especially at the high application rate and in the presence of biochar. Under saline irrigation system, for instance, the total tomato yield increased over the control by 14.0%–43.3% with BC and by 3.9%–35.6% with FR. These could be attributed to enhancement effects of FR or BC on soil properties, as indicated by increases in soil organic matter content and nutrient availability. Therefore, biochar may be effectively used as a soil amendment for enhancing the productivity of salt-affected sandy soils under arid conditions.

OBJECTIVE Ticks are economically important parasites all over the *** are vectors of different animal and human infectious *** control is globally based on chemical acaricides,but the developing tick resistance to most of the currently used synthetic acaricides encouraged to look for alternative ways to control ticks,especially natural products that are relatively environment *** An in vitro screening of the effects of some indigenous plants was carried ***-one plant species were extracted and tried to have effects on the most prevalent tick species;Hyalomma drommederi of *** engorged female ticks of the same weight,were immersed in the different extracts for 5,15,30 and *** Treated ticks were revived and incubated with the control groups for daily observation of their activity and egg *** some plant extracts have killing effects after 30-60 min exposure(Rhanterium epapposum,Achillea fragrantissima and Eragrostis poaeodes)others have stopped oviposition(Artemisia herba alba,Haloxylon salicornicum,Plantago coronopus,Moltkiopsis ciliate and Lasiurus hirsutus).Most of the extracts have reducing effect on the egg *** reduction of the egg masses associated with delayed oviposition was recorded on exposure to Lepidium sativum seeds *** The phytoconstituents were determined by a standard methods and further studies are on going to determine the bioactive components that may have the above mentioned acaricidal effects.

Ecology of Indigenous Plants in Abandoned Agricultural Areas in Tabuk Region, Saudi Arabia

Due to drought, low soil fertility, little rain fall, elevated levels of evapotranspiration, salinization of the soil and a lack of ground water, the problem of desertion of agricultural areas has developed in KSA in recent years (e.g. Tabuk region). In the Saudi Arabia, agricultural land abandonment’s negative impact on the composition of perennial vegetation, soil quality, and the structure of population was investigated. In the several abandoned fields of the research region, eleven species of perennial plants pertaining to nine families, eleven genera were found. Following the use of the ordination of detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), four plant communities were found. Zygophyllum hamiense, Prosopis farcta, Seidlitzia rosmarinus, Traganum nudatum. The indicators were Pulicaria undulate, Calligonum comosum. Populations of Calligonum comosum and Zygophyllum hamiense were found to be either negatively skewed or inversely J-shaped, indicating fast-growing populations with strong reproductive potential, according to demographic research. Traganum nudatum, Prosopis farcta and S. Rosmarinus, on the other hand, have a nearly symmetrical size-frequency distribution (like a bell in shape). The current research highlights the importance of managing deserted agricultural fields in order to restore and improve range lands having adapted native plants to regional conditions like little water demand.

Fuzziness or uncertainties arise due to insufficient knowledge,experimental errors,operating conditions and parameters that provide inaccurate *** concepts of susceptible,infectious and recovered are uncertain due to the different degrees in susceptibility,infectivity and recovery among the individuals of the *** differences can arise,when the population groups under the consideration having distinct habits,customs and different age groups have different degrees of resistance,*** realistic models are needed which consider these different degrees of susceptibility infectivity and recovery of the *** this paper,a Susceptible,Infected and Recovered(SIR)epidemic model with fuzzy parameters is *** infection,recovery and death rates due to the disease are considered as fuzzy *** basic reproduction number and fuzzy equilibrium points have been derived for the studied *** is then solved numerically with three different techniques,forward Euler,Runge-Kutta fourth order method(RK-4)and the nonstandard finite difference(NSFD)methods *** NSFD technique becomes more efficient and reliable among the others and preserves all the essential features of a continuous dynamical system.

A self-similar solution of unsteady mixed convection flow on a rotating cone embedded in a porous medium saturated with a rotating fluid in the presence of the first and second orders resistances has been obtained. It has been shown that a self-similar solution is possible when the free stream angular velocity and the angular velocity of the cone vary inversely as a linear function of time. The system of ordinary differential equations governing the flow has been solved numerically using an implicit finite difference scheme in combination with the quasi-linearization technique. Both prescribe wall temperature and prescribed heat flux conditions are considered. Numerical results are reported for the skin friction coefficients, Nusselt number and Sherwood number. The effect of various parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are also presented here.
