Bibliographic survey and com.rehensive review on m.chanical and durability properties of m.croorganism.based self-healing concrete

Concrete is the m.st widely utilized m.terial for construction purposes, second only to water, in the ever-increasing need for construction globally. Concrete is a brittle m.terial and possesses a high risk of crack form.tion and consequent deterioration. Cracking, which allows chem.cals to enter and can cause concrete structures to lose their physico-m.chanical and durability features. Repairing and rehabilitating concrete structures involves high costs and leads to various repair m.thods including coating, adhesives, polym.rs, supplem.ntary cem.ntitious m.terials (SCm.), and fibers. One of the latest technologies is the use of m.croorganism. in concrete. These added m.croorganism. lead to calcite precipitation and thereby heal the cracks effectively. This study presents a com.rehensive literature survey on bacteria-included concrete, before which a bibliographic survey is perform.d using VOSViewer software. In addition to regular bacterial concrete, this study focuses on also using SCm. and fibers in bacterial concrete. A detailed literature review with data representation for various m.chanical properties including com.ressive strength (CS), split tensile strength (SS), and flexure strength (FS), along with durability properties including carbonation, water absorption, resistance against chloride ion penetration, gas perm.ation, and resistance against cyclic freeze-and-thaw is presented. A study on the use of X-ray com.uted tom.graphy (XCT) in bacterial concrete is highlighted, and the scope for future research, along with identification of the research gap, is presented.

Introduction: Bangladesh has experienced rem.rkable growth in Rm. over the past 25 years. With the knitwear industry providing m.re than 4 m.llion direct jobs, providing better occupational health and safety of workers rem.ins a challenge. Aim.of the study: The aim.of the study was to analyze the disease burden of a Rm. factory, and to highlight occupational health risks. m.thods: A cross-sectional study design was em.loyed for this analysis. A 17-m.nth data entry (January 2020 - m.y 2021) was gathered from.the factory in-house clinic. The socio-dem.graphic and clinical diagnosis entries of 8421 entries were analyzed. Result: The population of the factory workers is 5370, where 40% (2148) are fem.le workers and 60% (3222) are m.le workers. The m.an age of respondents is 30 years, with a SD of ±7 years. Am.ng the chief com.laints, the m.st com.on was vom.ting (14%;2262) fever (14%;2247), runny nose (11%;1842), cough (9%;1465), and loose m.tion (8%;1364). In the diagnosis categories, gastrointestinal diseases were m.re predom.nantly diagnosed (35%;2978), followed by viral fever (21%;1772), neurological diseases (16.5%;1389) and m.sculoskeletal disorders (9%;768). The average cost of m.dicine for each respondent is BDT 36. The factory covered costs of all m.dication for 99% (8380) of respondents. Only 0.5% (37) was referred to a tertiary hospital for further evaluation. Conclusion: Garm.nts workers suffer m.stly from.long-term.occupational health hazards. Factory owners and policy m.kers can contribute in various ways to im.roving prim.ry healthcare options for workers.

Experim.nts on initiation of m.tion of different fractions of non-uniform.sedim.nt m.xtures are reported. Four sedim.nt m.xes and reference transport m.thod to define the threshold of bed particle m.vem.nt are used in this analysis. Factors controlling the initiation of m.tion are analyzed. It is found that relative size of different grains with respect to a m.dian size greatly affects the initiation of m.vem.nt. The incipient m.tion of non-uniform.sedim.nt is very m.ch dependent on the absolute size for coarser fractions. Considering the factors controlling the initiation of m.tion the experim.ntal data sets along with the other available data yield a new relationship for the calculation of critical shear stress of non-uniform.sedim.nts. A set of equations have found that all the data points fall into a single line for the finer and for coarser fractions.

In this work,alpha(α)brass was poured in green sand m.uld and m.tallic chill m.uld at about 1050℃. Sand casting m.thod and m.tallic chill casting m.thod are representing the slow and fast cooling rates of the castings,*** slow cooling rate in the sand m.uld produces larger grains,while the m.tallic chill m.uld produces sm.ller grains in the *** the grain size decreases,the strength of the cast brass increases;m.cro-porosity in the casting decreases and the tendency for the casting to fracture during solidification ***,the faster cooling rate casting offers higher strength,density and hardness com.ared to the slow cooling rate casting.

An Al_xIn_(1-x)As/GaAs heterojunction ultra-thin film.solar cell with 20% efficiency

An ultra-thin film.photovoltaic cell, which incorporates an AlxIn1-xAs/GaAs heterojunction, is sim.lated using Adept 1D sim.lation tool, and it is with an energy conversion efficiency of 20.06% (under 1 sun, Am..5G illum.nation) for 604 nm.cell thickness (excluding the substrate thickness), and optim.zed layer thickness and doping concentration for each layer of the device. The device has an n-type AlAs window layer (highly doped), an n-type Al_xIn_(1-x)As em.tter layer and a p-type GaAs base layer. Germ.nium.(Ge) substrate is used for the structure. The device param.ters are optim.zed separately for each layer. Based on these optim.zations, the ultra-thin film.solar cell design is proposed after careful consideration of lattice m.sm.tch between two adjacent layers of the device.

Water quality of Kaptai reservoir in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh

A study was conducted in Kaptai reservoir, one of the largest m.n-m.de freshwater lakes of South-east Asia, to determ.ne present status of water quality and its suitability for fishing and other uses. Water sam.lings were from.m.ddle part of the reservoir at 0.2 and 0.8 fractional depths at five different locations from.upstream.to downstream.viz. Burburichara, m.ichchari, Subolong, Basanthakum. and Rangam.ti. Water analyses show that concentrations of NO3-N, K＋ and total P, and suspended solid at all the sam.ling stations were beyond the recom.ended values for fish culture. Concentrations of Na^＋, Ca^2＋, m.^2＋, SO4^2-, Cl^-, total dissolved solid （TDS）, dissolved oxygen （DO） and chem.cal oxygen dem.nd （COD） were within the standards for aquaculture. Concentrations of NO3-N, SO4^2-, K＋ and total P showed no definite trend with depths, locations as well as rainy and dry seasons. Water pH, conductivity, Na^＋ and HCO3- contents were lower in rainy season, and DO and COD higher at alm.st all the locations in both the depths, com.ared with dry season. Total solids and concentrations of TDS, DO, COD, Ca^2＋, m.^2＋ and Na^＋ were higher in upstream.and decreased gradually towards downstream.in the reservoir. Concentrations of DO and Ca2＋ and pH were higher and m.2＋ less at 0.2-fractional depth than those at 0.8-fractional depth at alm.st all the locations. The reservoir is in m.sotrophic condition containing high concentration of NO3-N and total P, in alarm.ng status with the presence of excessive suspended solids from.urban pollution around the town. It is necessary to adopt m.asures for protecting water quality in the reservoir due to such deteriorations.

Chem.cal Genetic Dissection of Brassinosteroid-Ethylene Interaction

We undertook a chem.cal genetics screen to identify chem.cal inhibitors of brassinosteroid （BR） action. From.a chem.cal library of 10,000 sm.ll m.lecules, one com.ound was found to inhibit hypocotyl length and activate the expression of a BR-repressed reporter gene （CPD：：GUS） in Arabidopsis, and it was nam.d brassinopride （BRP）. These effects of BRP could be reversed by co-treatm.nt with brassinolide, suggesting that BRP either directly or indirectly inhibits BR biosynthesis. Interestingly, the com.ound causes exaggerated apical hooks, sim.lar to that caused by ethylene treatm.nt. The BRP-induced apical hook phenotype can be blocked by a chem.cal inhibitor of ethylene perception or an ethylene-insensitive m.tant, suggesting that, in addition to inhibiting BR, BRP activates ethylene response. Analysis of BRP analogs provided clues about structural features im.ortant for its effects on two separate targets in the BR and ethylene pathways. Analyses of the responses of various BR and ethylene m.tants to BRP, ethylene, and BR treatm.nts revealed m.des of cross-talk between ethylene and BR in dark-grown seedlings. Our results suggest that active downstream.BR signaling, but not BR synthesis or a BR gradient, is required for ethylene-induced apical hook form.tion. The BRP-related com.ounds can be useful tools for m.nipulating plant growth and studying horm.ne interactions.

Effects of coastal afforestation on som. soil properties in Lakshm.pur coast of Bangladesh

Coastal zones com.rising im.ortant intertidal tropical and subtropical ecosystem. are characterized by high productivity, diversity and unique zonation of various plant and anim.l com.unities. The com.arison of som. selected physicochem.cal soil properties viz. texture, particle density, m.isture content, pH, organic carbon and total nitrogen between planted site （Telir char） and barren site （Boyar char） has been investigated at surface （0-10 cm. and subsurface （10-45 cm. soil across three different land strips viz. inland, m.ddle part and sea side in Lakshm.pur coast of Bangladesh. Sand particles in the soil were lower in planted site than barren site. The reverse trend was found in case of both silt and clay percentage. Coastal afforestation had a significant effect on soil binding process since a com.on trend of increm.nt in soil particle density was noticed. m.xim.m.increm.nt （20.43% to 23.30%） in soil m.isture content was recorded in surface soil across the seaside while at subsurface soil both across the m.ddle part （19.53% to 22.30%） and sea side （20.19% to 22.96%）. m.reover, the highest reduction in soil pH was recorded at surface soil （7.27 to 6.60） across the sea side and subsurface soil （7.16 to 6.67） in inland due to the influence of coastal plantation. Across all the land strips and the soil depths studied, soil organic carbon was higher in planted site than in barren site with only exception at subsurface soil in the m.ddle part （0.50% in both sites）. Total soil nitrogen in the study area was increased at both depths due to forestation with the highest increm.nt in the inland at both surface and subsurface soil.
