Receptor-like kinase OsCR4 controls leaf morphogenesis and embryogenesis by fixing the distribution of auxin in rice

Cell differentiation is a key event in organ development;it involves auxin gradient formation, cell signaling, and transcriptional regulation. Yet, how these processes are orchestrated during leaf morphogenesis is poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate an essential role for the receptor-like kinase Os CR4 in leaf development. oscr4 loss-of-function mutants displayed short shoots and roots, with tiny,crinkly, or even dead leaves. The delayed outgrowth of the first three leaves and seminal root in oscr4 was due to defects in plumule and radicle formation during embryogenesis. The deformed epidermal,mesophyll, and vascular tissues observed in oscr4 leaves arose at the postembryo stage;the corresponding expression pattern of pro Os CR4:GUS in embryos and young leaves suggests that Os CR4 functions in these tissues. Signals from the auxin reporter DR5 rev:VENUS were found to be altered in oscr4 embryos and disorganized in oscr4 leaves, in which indole-3-acetic acid accumulation was further revealed by immunofluorescence. Os WOX3 A, which is auxin responsive and related to leaf development,was activated extensively and ectopically in oscr4 leaves, partially accounting for the observed lack of cell differentiation. Our data suggest that Os CR4 plays a fundamental role in leaf morphogenesis and embryogenesis by fixing the distribution of auxin.

Ultrathin Zincophilic Interphase Regulated Electric Double Layer Enabling Highly Stable Aqueous Zinc‑Ion Batteries

The practical application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries for large-grid scale systems is still hindered by uncontrolled zinc dendrite and side reactions.Regulating the elec-trical double layer via the electrode/electrolyte interface layer is an effective strategy to improve the stability of Zn anodes.Herein,we report an ultrathin zincophilic ZnS layer as a model regu-lator.At a given cycling current,the cell with Zn@ZnS electrode displays a lower potential drop over the Helmholtz layer(stern layer)and a suppressed diffuse layer,indicating the regulated charge distribution and decreased electric double layer repulsion force.Boosted zinc adsorption sites are also expected as proved by the enhanced electric double-layer capacitance.Consequently,the symmetric cell with the ZnS protection layer can stably cycle for around 3,000 h at 1 mA cm^(-2) with a lower overpotential of 25 mV.When coupled with an I2/AC cathode,the cell demonstrates a high rate performance of 160 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 A g^(-1) and long cycling stability of over 10,000 cycles at 10 A g^(-1).The Zn||MnO_(2) also sustains both high capacity and long cycling stability of 130 mAh g^(-1) after 1,200 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1).

Experimental study on ice monitoring method for 10 kV transmission line with tangent tower in alpine landform

Ice monitoring methods were applied for 110 kV and above transmission lines with tangent towers.However,the change in the vertical span is not considered,and a significant difference lies in the tower-conductor structure of 10 kV transmission lines.For this reason,a proposal is made about the ice monitoring method for the 10 kV transmission line with tangent tower in alpine landform,which includes the ice monitoring system based on pressure measurement and corresponding equivalent ice thickness calculating methods.Different methods calculate the vertical span under different height difference coefficients.A finite element simulation model and a simulated ice load experiment system are established based on real conductors and insulators.Experiments and simulations under four simulated terrains are conducted within 2.5–20 mm ice thickness range.The comparison is made between this method and the method without considering the change in vertical span.The results show that the two methods are consistent and the relative errors are lower than�4%in simulation and�10%in experiment when the height difference coefficient is 0.When it is not 0,the relative errors of this method fall between t0.38%and t6.78%in simulation and−6.40%to t6.60%in experiment,while the relative errors of the method without considering the change in vertical span ranges between−11.13%and−20.23%in simulation and−11.65%to−23.20%in experiment.

Integrating machine learning and CALPHAD method for exploring low-modulus near-β-Ti alloys

Traditional theoretical and empirical calculation methods can guide the design of β-and metastable β-alloys for bio-titanium. However, it is still difficult to obtain novel near-β-Ti alloys with low modulus. This study developed a method that combines machine learning with calculation of phase diagrams(CALPHAD) to facilitate the design of near-β-Ti alloys. An elastic modulus database of Ti–Nb–Zr–Mo–Ta–Sn system was constructed first, and then three features(the electron to atom ratio, mean absolute deviation of atom mass, and mean electronegativity) were selected as the key factors of modulus by performing a three-step feature selection. With these features, a highly accurate model was built for predicting the modulus of near-β-Ti alloys. To further ensure the accuracy of modulus prediction, machine learning with the elastic constants calculated was leveraged by CALPHAD database. The root mean square error of the well-trained model can be as low as 6.75 GPa. Guided by the prediction of machine learning and CALPHAD, three novel near-β-Ti alloys with elastic modulus below 50 GPa were successfully designed in this study. The best candidate alloy(Ti–26Nb–4Zr–4Sn–1Mo–Ta) exhibits an ultra-low modulus(36.6 GPa) after cold rolling with a thickness reduction of 20%. Our method can greatly save time and resources in the development of novel Ti alloys, and experimental verifications have demonstrated the reliability of this method.

Slicing capacity-centered mode selection and resource optimization for network-assisted full-duplex cell-free distributed massive MIMO systems

Network-assisted full-duplex(NAFD) cell-free distributed massive multiple-input multipleoutput(MIMO) systems enable uplink(UL) and downlink(DL) communications within the same timefrequency resources,which potentially reduce latency by avoiding the overhead of switching UL/DL modes.However,how to choose UL/DL modes remains an important factor affecting system performance.With the dramatic increase in the number of users and access points(APs),massive access brings significant overhead in the mode selection.Additionally,the different quality of service(QoS) among users also makes the effective utilization of resources difficult.As one of the most promising technologies in sixth-generation(6G),network slicing enables the adaptive configuration of limited UL/DL resources through the resource isolation assisted NAFD technique.Therefore,we propose a slicing capacity-centered scheme.Under this scheme,APs are motivated by slicing requirements and associated slices to form different subsystems.Collaborative mode selection and resource allocation are performed within each subsystem to reduce overhead and improve resource utilization.To implement this scheme efficiently,a double-layer deep reinforcement learning(DRL)mechanism is used to realize the joint optimization of mode selection and resource allocation.Simulation results show that the slicing capacity-centered scheme can effectively improve resource utilization and reduce overhead.

New insights into the pre-lithiation kinetics of single-crystalline Ni-rich cathodes for long-life li-ion batteries

Developing single-crystalline Ni-rich cathodes is an effective strategy to improve the safety and cycle life of li-ion batteries(liBs).However,the easy-to-loss of li and O in high-temperature lithiation results in unsatisfactory ordered layered structure and stoichiometry.Herein,we demonstrate the synthesis of highly-ordered and fully-stoichiometric single-crystalline liNi_(0.83)Co_(0.12)Mn_(0.05)O_(2)(SC-NCM83)cathodes by the regulation of pre-lithiation kinetics.The well-balanced pre-lithiation kinetics have been proved to greatly improve the proportion of layered phase in the intermediate by inhibiting the formation of metastable spinel phase,which promoted the rapid transformation of the intermediate into highly-ordered layered SC-NCM83 in the subsequent lithiation process.After coating a layer of li_(2)O–B_(2)O_(3),the resultant cathodes deliver superior cycling stability with 90.9%capacity retention at 1C after 300 cycles in pouch-type full batteries.The enhancement mechanism has also been clarified.These findings exhibit fundamental insights into the pre-lithiation kinetics process for guiding the synthesis of high-quality singlecrystalline Ni-rich cathodes.

Carbon reduction paths for Chinese oil companies under the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals

To cope with the global warming and achieve the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, Chinese oil companies have taken a series of carbon reduction measures. This paper analyzes the current carbon emissions in China and the carbon reduction measures taken by oil companies, and clarifies the challenges in carbon reduction. Finally, some carbon reduction paths are proposed for the Chinese oil companies. The results indicate that in the process of oil and gas production and utilization, greenhouse gas is mainly emitted in the upstreams. The Chinese oil companies adopt carbon capture, carbon reduction, carbon substitution, and carbon emission trading methods to reduce the carbon emissions, while maintaining energy supply and improving quality and efficiency. Moreover, some companies have been developing wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, hydrogen energy and marine new energy according to local conditions, gradually promoting the green transformation of energy. According to the research results and the current situation of Chinese oil enterprises, some carbon reduction paths are proposed. First, a scientific and reasonable multi-energy complementation system should be built to realize the collaborative development of conventional energy and new energy. Second, low-cost and efficient technologies should be developed in fossil energy mining, clean energy development, and digital carbon neutrality, etc., and the initial innovation capability should be enhanced to address. Moreover, initiative actions should be taken in the new round of industrial revolution and technological transformation. Third, the exchange and cooperation with national/international enterprises, local governments, universities/colleges, and research institutes should be strengthened to ensure the advancement of associated technologies and to cultivate professional and technical talents. © 2024 Natural Gas Industry Journal Agency. Multi-Scale Pore Structure Heterogeneity in Tuff Reservoirs Investigated with Multi-Experimental Method and Fractal Dimensions in Chang 7 Formation,Southern Ordos Basin

The tight tuff reservoir is an unusual type of unconventional reservoir with strong heterogeneity.However,there is a lack of research on the microscopic pore structure that causes the heterogeneity of tuff reservoirs.Using the Chang 7 Formation in Ordos Basin,China as a case study,carbon-dioxide gas adsorption,nitrogen gas adsorption and high-pressure mercury injection are integrated to investigate the multi-scale pore structure characteristics of tuff reservoirs.Meanwhile,the fractal dimension is introduced to characterize the complexity of pore structure in tuff reservoirs.By this multi-experimental method,the quantitative characterizations of the full-range pore size distribution of four tuff types were obtained and compared in the size ranges of micropores,mesopores and macropores.Fractal dimension curves derived from full-range pores are divided into six segments as D1,D2,D3,D4,D5 and D6 corresponding to fractal characteristics of micropores,smaller mesopores,larger mesopores,smaller macropores,medium macropores and larger macropores,respectively.The macropore volume,average macropore radius and fractal dimension D5 significantly control petrophysical properties.The larger macropore volume,average macropore radius and D5 correspond to favorable pore structure and good reservoir quality,which provides new indexes for the tuff reservoir evaluation.This study enriches the understanding of the heterogeneity of pore structures and contributes to unconventional oil and gas exploration and development.

Vinyltrimethylsilane as a novel electrolyte additive for improving interfacial stability of li-rich cathode working in high voltage

Boosting the interfacial stability between electrolyte and li-rich cathode material at high operating voltage is vital important to enhance the cycling stability of li-rich cathode materials for high-performance li-ion batteries.In this work,vinyltrimethylsilane as a new type of organic silicon electrolyte additive is studied to address the interfacial instability of li-rich cathode material at high operating voltage.The cells using vinyltrimethylsilane additive shows the high capacity retention of 73.9%after 300 cycles at 1 C,whereas the cells without this kind of additive only have the capacity retention of 58.9%.The improvement of stability is mainly attributed to the additive helping to form a more stable surface film for li-rich cathode material,thus avoiding direct contact between the electrolyte and the cathode material,slowing down the dissolution of metal ions and the decomposition of the electrolyte under high operating voltage.Our findings in this work shed some light on the design of stable cycling performance of li-rich cathode toward advanced li-ion batteries.

Stark splitting of intense red emission for Er^(3+)in O_(h) symmetry sites realizing optical temperature sensing in biological applications

Optical temperature sensing based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)of red emission for lanthanide ions holds significant relevance in non-contact temperature measurement for biological application.In this study,the perovskite-structured KZnF_(3)is utilized as a host material for Er^(3+)to achieve a high-purity upconversion(UC)red emission.The observed Stark splitting of the red emission peak provides evidence of the energy level splitting of Er^(3+).Group theory is employed to decompose the spectral branching of Er^(3+)under the point group symmetry of KZnF_(3),allowing for the derivation of Stark splitting energy levels induced by the crystal field effect.The optical temperature-sensing behavior of the red UC luminescence was investigated,specifically examining the FIR of the splitting sub-peaks,which exhibited an exponential relationship with temperature.The KZnF_(3):Yb^(3+),Er^(3+)demonstrated a relative sensitivity(S_(r))of 0.00182%·K^(-1)at 298 K,highlighting its excellent response to temperature.Ex vivo bio-thermometry experiments conducted on chicken breast validated the material's ability to penetrate biological tissues and showed its significant sensitivity of the FIR to temperature.These results establish KZnF_(3):Yb^(3+),Er^(3+)as a promising material for optical thermometry in various biological applications.
