Glucose Protects Cochlear Hair Cells Against Oxidative Stress and Attenuates Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in Mice

Oxidative stress is the key determinant in the pathogenesis of noise-induced hearing loss(NIHL). Given that cellular defense against oxidative stress is an energyconsuming process, the aim of the present study was to investigate whether increasing energy availability by glucose supplementation protects cochlear hair cells against oxidative stress and attenuates NIHL. Our results revealed that glucose supplementation reduced the noiseinduced formation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and consequently attenuated noise-induced loss of outer hair cells, inner hair cell synaptic ribbons, and NIHL in CBA/J mice. In cochlear explants, glucose supplementation increased the levels of ATP and NADPH, as well as attenuating H_2O_2-induced ROS production and cytotoxicity. Moreover, pharmacological inhibition of glucose transporter type 1 activity abolished the protective effects of glucose against oxidative stress in HEI-OC1 cells. These findings suggest that energy availability is crucial for oxidative stress resistance and glucose supplementation offers a simple and effective approach for the protection of cochlear hair cells against oxidative stress and NIHL.

In this paper,a continuum model with dynamic earth pressure coefficient is established to describe the granular slump process by introducingμ(I)rheology.This rheology is adopted to quantify the normal stresses in our proposed model rather than shear stresses in classical models.The constitutive laws of different depth-averaged continuum approaches including the hydrodynamic,Savage–Hutter and proposed models are comparatively investigated in terms of the rheological effects on the spread of a granular column.The simulation results indicate that the proposed dynamic model captures some significant features during granular slump on inclined planes with different inclination angles(for example,the runout distance,runout time,and final profile).The proposed model can also reproduce the inner static sided axisymmetric region observed in tests when the granular column's initial aspect ratio(ratio of height to radii)is small.

General Method of Building a Real-Time Optimization Policy for Dynamic Vehicle Routing Problem

Currently, most of the policies for the dynamic demand vehicle routing problem are based on the traditional method for static problems as there is no general method for constructing a real-time optimization policy for the case of dynamic demand. Here, a new approach based on a combination of the rules from the static sub-problem to building real-time optimization policy is proposed. Real-time optimization policy is dividing the dynamic problem into a series of static sub-problems along the time axis and then solving the static ones. The static sub-problems’ transformation and solution rules include: Division rule, batch rule, objective rule, action rule and algorithm rule, and so on. Different combinations of these rules may constitute a variety of real-time optimization policy. According to this general method, two new policies called flexible G/G/m and flexible D/G/m were developed. The competitive analysis and the simulation results of these two policies proved that both are improvements upon the best existing policy.

Objective In this study,the role and potential mechanism of transformer 2β(Tra2β)in cervical cancer were explored.Methods The transcriptional data of Tra2βin patients with cervical cancer from Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis(GEPIA)and cBioPortal databases were investigated.The functions of Tra2βwere evaluated by using Western blot,MTT,colony formation,Transwell assays,and nude mouse tumor formation experiments.Target genes regulated by Tra2βwere studied by RNA-seq.Subsequently,representative genes were selected for RT-qPCR,confocal immunofluorescence,Western blot,and rescue experiments to verify their regulatory relationship.Results The dysregulation of Tra2βin cervical cancer samples was observed.Tra2βoverexpression in Siha and Hela cells enhanced cell viability and proliferation,whereas Tra2βknockdown showed the opposite effect.Alteration of Tra2βexpression did not affect cell migration and invasion.Furthermore,tumor xenograft models verified that Tra2βpromoted cervical cancer growth.Mechanically,Tra2βpositively regulated the mRNA and protein level of SP1,which was critical for the proliferative capability of Tra2β.Conclusion This study demonstrated the important role of the Tra2β/SP1 axis in the progression of cervical cancer in vitro and in vivo,which provides a comprehensive understanding of the pathogenesis of cervical cancer.

Nonreciprocal microwave devices,in which the transmission of waves is non-symmetric between two ports,are indispensable for the manipulation of information processing and communication.In this work,we show the nonreciprocal microwave transmission in a cavity magnonic system under the joint mechanism of phase modulation and magnon Kerr nonlinearity effect.In contrast to the schemes based on the standard phase modulation or magnon Kerr nonlinearity,we find that the joint mechanism enables the nonreciprocal transmission even at low power and makes us obtain a high nonreciprocal isolation ratio.Moreover,when two microwave modes are coupled to the magnon mode via a different coupling strength,the presented strong nonreciprocal response occurs,and it makes the nonreciprocal transmission manipulating by the magnetic field within a large adjustable range possible,which overcomes narrow operating bandwidths.This study may provide promising opportunities to realize nonreciprocal structures for wave transmission.

This paper concerns two-player zero-sum stochastic differential games with nonanticipative strategies against closed-loop controls in the case where the coefficients of mean-field stochastic differential equations and cost functional depend on the joint distribution of the state and the control. In our game, both the (lower and upper) value functions and the (lower and upper) second-order Bellman-Isaacs equations are defined on the Wasserstein space P2(Rn) which is an infinite dimensional space. The dynamic programming principle for the value functions is proved. If the (upper and lower) value functions are smooth enough, we show that they are the classical solutions to the second-order Bellmam-Isaacs equations. On the other hand, the classical solutions to the (upper and lower) Bellmam-Isaacs equations are unique and coincide with the (upper and lower) value functions.As an illustrative application, the linear quadratic case is considered. Under the Isaacs condition, the explicit expressions of optimal closed-loop controls for both players are given. Finally, we introduce the intrinsic notion of viscosity solution of our second-order Bellman-Isaacs equations, and characterize the (upper and lower) value functions as their viscosity solutions.

Ultralight Iontronic Triboelectric Mechanoreceptor with High Specific Outputs for Epidermal Electronics

The history of Chinese dragon boat is a tragic and patriotic history. The traditions of each ethnic group perform the history based on the dragon’s creative spirit, conquest spirit and fusion spirit. The legends of different styles, different techniques, different drums, different costumes and different cultural connotations are for the commemoration that cannot be forgotten. For thousands of years, the races of dragon boats have smashed the rivers and lakes, which have been spread throughout the north and south, interpreting the history and civilization of China, and demonstrating the unity and strength of the nation. The dragon boat movement has developed from the private sector. In recent years, it has grown stronger in colleges and universities. The participation enthusiasm of college students has been increasing. More and more colleges have established professional dragon boat teams. However, due to various conditions, there is still certain gap between college dragon boats and professional dragon boats, which is facing great challenges. This paper takes ten universities in Wuhan as examples to analyze the implementation and problems of dragon boat sports in colleges and universities, and proposes corresponding countermeasures, hoping to provide powerful theoretical support for the healthy and sustainable development of dragon boat sports in colleges and universities.

The pursuit to mimic skin exteroceptive ability has motivated the endeavors for epidermal artificial mechanoreceptors.Artificial mechanoreceptors are required to be highly sensitive to capture imperceptible skin deformations and preferably to be self-powered,breathable,lightweight and deformable to satisfy the prolonged wearing demands.It is still struggling to achieve these traits in single device,as it remains difficult to minimize device architecture without sacrificing the sensitivity or stability.In this article,we present an all-fiber iontronic triboelectric mechanoreceptor(ITM)to fully tackle these challenges,enabled by the high-output mechano-to-electrical energy conversion.The proposed ITM is ultralight,breathable and stretchable and is quite stable under various mechanical deformations.On the one hand,the ITM can achieve a superior instantaneous power density;on the other hand,the ITM shows excellent sensitivity serving as epidermal sensors.Precise health status monitoring is readily implemented by the ITM calibrating by detecting vital signals and physical activities of human bodies.The ITM can also realize acoustic-to-electrical conversion and distinguish voices from different people,and biometric application as a noise dosimeter is demonstrated.The ITM therefore is believed to open new sights in epidermal electronics and skin prosthesis fields.

Light field super-resolution using complementary-view feature attention

Light field(LF)cameras record multiple perspectives by a sparse sampling of real scenes,and these perspectives provide complementary information.This information is beneficial to LF super-resolution(LFSR).Compared with traditional single-image super-resolution,LF can exploit parallax structure and perspective correlation among different LF views.Furthermore,the performance of existing methods are limited as they fail to deeply explore the complementary information across LF views.In this paper,we propose a novel network,called the light field complementary-view feature attention network(LF-CFANet),to improve LFSR by dynamically learning the complementary information in LF views.Specifically,we design a residual complementary-view spatial and channel attention module(RCSCAM)to effectively interact with complementary information between complementary views.Moreover,RCSCAM captures the relationships between different channels,and it is able to generate informative features for reconstructing LF images while ignoring redundant information.Then,a maximum-difference information supplementary branch(MDISB)is used to supplement information from the maximum-difference angular positions based on the geometric structure of LF images.This branch also can guide the process of reconstruction.Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method.The proposed LF-CFANet has a more advanced reconstruction performance that displays faithful details with higher SR accuracy than state-of-the-art methods.
