Functional response, host stage preference and interference of two whitefly parasitoids

The functional responses of two parasitoids, Eretmocerus hayati Zolnerowich ＆ Rose and Encarsia sophia Girault ＆ Dodd, of whitefly Bemisia tabaci Gennadius Middle East-Asia Minor 1 were studied under laboratory conditions. In addition, the influence of host density and host stage on the competitive interactions between the two parasitoids, and biological control effect on whitefly were evaluated. In the functional response study, adult parasitoids were tested individually, with a conspecific or heterospecific competitor. Both Er. hayati and En. sophia exhibited a type II response to increasing host density, whether a conspecific or heterospecific competitor was present or not. Difference of searching rates and handling times between treatments suggested interference interactions existed between two parasitoid species. In the host stage preference study, two parasitoid species were jointly tested. Er. hayati had a competitive advantage over En. sophia when provided young host instars （first and second instar）, whereas no advantage was found on old host instars （third and fourth instar）. The biological control effect ofEr hayati and En. sophia in different introductions varied with host density. However, the effect of host instar on host mortality was not significant. These findings provide information for the practice of biological control and give better insight into how parasitoid species may coexist in diverse environments.

Multiple generation effects of high temperature on the development and fecundity of Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius）（Hemiptera Aleyrodidae） biotype B

Insects are ectotherms and their ability to resist temperature stress is limited. The immediate effects of sub-lethal heat stress on insects are well documented, but longer- term effects of such stresses are rarely reported. In this study, survival, development and reproduction of the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius）（Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） biotype B, were compared over five consecutive generations at 27, 31 and 35℃ and for one generation at 37 ℃. Both temperature and generation significantly affected the fitness of the whitefly. These impacts were more dramatic with increasing generations and temperatures. Among the experimental temperatures, the most favorable for development and reproduction were 27 ℃ and 31 ℃. At 27 ℃, survival, development and fecundity were all stable over these five generations. At 31 ℃, immature survival rate was the highest in the fifth generation, but female fecundities decreased in the fourth and fifth generations. At 35 ℃, egg hatching rate, immature survival rate and female fecundity decreased significantly in the fourth and fifth generations. At 37 ℃, survival ofB. tabaci was not adversely affected, but female fecundity at 37 ℃ was less than 10% of that at 27 ℃ or 31 ℃. These results demonstrate that the lethal high temperature for B. tabaci is over 37 ℃, and the whitefly population continued expanding in the five generations at 35 ℃. The ability orB. tabaci biotype B to survive high temperature stress will play an important role in its population extension under global warming.

Single-atom catalysts for electrochemical energy storage and conversion

The expedited consumption of fossil fuels has triggered broad interest in the fabrication of novel catalysts for electrochemical energy storage and conversion. Especially, single-atom catalysts(SACs) have attracted more attention owing to their high specific surface areas and abundant active centers. This review summarizes recent synthetic strategies to fabricate SACs with different metal loadings on various supports, and the structural influence of supports on metal loading. Then, the functions of SACs are illustrated on electronic structure and electrocatalysis;the isolated SACs with an unsaturated coordination environment generally accelerate the electrocatalytic process and promote the selectivity. The applications of SACs to some typical electrocatalytic reactions are also introduced in detail, as well as to electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems. Finally, the challenges and the perspectives of SACs are discussed for future exploration.

A chiral salen-Co(Ⅱ)complex as soluble redox mediator for promoting the electrochemical performance of Li-O_(2) batteries

Low discharge capacity and poor cycle stability are the major obstacles hindering the operation of Li-O_(2)batteries with *** obstacles are mainly caused by the cathode passivation behaviours and the accumulation of *** the discharge process in solution and accelerating the decomposition of discharge products and by-products are able to alleviate above problems to some ***,chiral salen-Co(Ⅱ)complex,(1R,2R)-(-)-N,N-bis(3,5-di-t-butylsalicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediaminocobalt(Ⅱ)(Co(Ⅱ))as a multi-functional redox mediator was introduced into electrolyte to induce solution phase formation of Li_(2)O_(2)and catalyze the oxidation of Li_(2)O_(2)and main by-products Li_(2)*** to the Co(Ⅱ)has the solvation effect towards Li+,it can drive solution phase formation of Li_(2)O_(2),to prevent electrode from passivation and then increase the discharge capacity with a high Li_(2)O_(2)yield of 96.09%.Furthermore,the Co(Ⅱ)possesses suitable redox couple potentials,and it does so while simultaneously boosting the oxidization of Li_(2)O_(2)and the decomposition of Li_(2)CO3,reducing charge overpotential,and promoting cycle ***,a cell with Co(Ⅱ)achieved a long cycling stability at low charge plateau(3.66 V)over 252 cycles with a specific capacity of 500 mAh·gcarbon^(−1).

Cosmological constraints on the Undulant Universe

We use the redshift Hubble parameter H（z） data derived from relative galaxy ages, distant type Ia supernovae （SNe Ia）, the Baryonic Acoustic Oscillation （BAO） peak, and the Cosmic Microwave Background （CMB） shift parameter data, to constrain cosmological parameters in the Undulant Universe. We marginalize the like- lihood functions over h by integrating the probability density 19 ∝ e-x^2/2. By using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo （MCMC） technique, we obtain the best fitting results and give the confidence regions in the b - Ωm0 plane. Then we compare their constraints. Our results show that the H（z） data play a similar role with the SNe Ia data in cosmological study. By presenting the independent and joint constraints, we find that the BAO and CMB data play very important roles in breaking the degeneracy compared with the H（z） and SNe Ia data alone. Combined with the BAO or CMB data, one can remarkably improve the constraints. The SNe Ia data sets constrain Ωm0 much tighter than the H（z） data sets, but the H（z） data sets constrain b much tighter than the SNe Ia data sets. All these results show that the Undulant Universe approaches the ACDM model. We expect more H（z） data to constrain cosmological parameters in the future.

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of trace heavy metals in aqueous environment are rapidly assuming significance along with the rapid development of *** this paper,gold microelectrode array(MEA)plated with mercury film was used for simultaneous voltammetric detection of zinc,cadmium,lead and copper ions in *** electrochemical behavior and the actual surface area of the MEA were investigated by cyclic voltammetry in K_(3)[Fe(CN)_(6)].Electrochemical impedance spectrum(EIS)was utilized to examine the deposition of mercury on the electrode *** on anodic stripping voltammetry,mercury filmAu MEA was applied to the detection of heavy metals in artificial analyte,where good calibrate linearity was obtained for cadmium,lead and copper ions,but with zinc exhibiting poor linearity.

Reshaping the imprinting strategy through the thermo-responsive moiety-derived“deep eutectic solvents”effect

As a new concept having emerged in last few years,the“deep eutectic solvents”(DESs)effect integrated into the imprinting technology inevitably exposes design limitations of stimuli-responsive molecularly imprinted polymers(MIPs),as well as inadequate analysis of the adsorption performance of ***,a simple yet defined N-isopropylacrylamide/(3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride(NIPAM/APTMAC)binary DESs system was proposed to prepare intelligent MIPs with ***,magnetic and thermo-responsive MIPs based on functional monomers-derived DESs(TMDESs-MIPs1)were synthesized,revealing DESs effect-regulated affinity/kinetics for the enhanced adsorption capability,eco-friendly thermo-regulated elution for high release efficiency,and simple magnetic separation,along with superior selectivity to rhein(RH)and good regeneration ***-DESs-MIPs1 were utilized to extract RH from Cassiae semen samples coupled with high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),yielding satisfactory recoveries(79.47%−110.82%)and low limits of detection(LOD)(16.67μg/L).Another two kinds of MIPs adopting the thermo-responsive moiety-derived DESs effect strategy further demonstrated great applicability of such intelligent MIPs for analyses of complicated samples.

Effects of photoperiod and temperature on reproductive diapause in Ophraella communa （Coleoptera： Chrysomelidae）, a potential biocontrol agent against Ambrosia artemisiifolia

To investigate the seasonal adaptation strategies of Ophraella communa to new habitats, the effects and regulation mechanisms of photoperiod and temperature on the reproductive diapause in a population collected from Changsha, Hunan were examined. Adults showed obvious reproductive diapause, which was regulated by photoperiod and temperature. At 30~C, there was no adult diapause occurring under either long-day or short-day conditions; at 25~C the pre-oviposition period was short and fecundity was high in adult females under L ： D 16 ： 8 h, whereas under L ： D 12 ： 12 h, a few females entered reproductive diapause; at 20~C under short-day conditions, all female adults entered diapause. The pre-oviposition period was significantly prolonged when the pupae and adults were transferred from long-days to short-days, but the day length influence was not obvious when they were transferred only in the adult stage. However, the fecundity dropped greatly no matter whether the photoperiod shifted to short-days only in the adult stage or whether the shift occurred in both the pupal and adult stage. The fecundity was extremely low when photoperiod shifted from long-days to short-days in both pupal and adult stages. This was an indication that the pupal and adult stages were the photoperiod-sensitive stage for adult reproductive diapause. This was especially true for the photoperiod in the pupal stage, which has a distinctly significant regulative effect on reproductive diapause. Additionally, this article also addresses the reason for different photoperiodic response patterns in reproductive diapause induction between the Changsha strain and the Tsukuba strain （Japan） of O. communa.
