BACKGROUND Violence against healthcare workers(HCWs)in the Caribbean continues to prevail yet remains *** aim is to determine the cause,traits,and consequences of violence on HCWs in the *** To determine the cause,traits,and consequences of violence on HCWs in the *** This research adopted an online cross-sectional survey approach,spanning over eight weeks(between June 6th and August 9th,2022).The survey was generated using Research Electronic Data Capture forms and followed a snowballing strategy to contact individuals using emails,social media,text messages,*** regression analysis was performed to evaluate the variables that influence violence,including gender,age,years of experience,institution type,and night shift *** The survey was completed by 225 *** comprised 61%.Over 51%of respondents belonged to the 21 to 35 age ***(n=61),Haiti(n=50),and Grenada(n=31)had the most *** HCWs(49%)worked for government academic institutions,followed by community hospitals(23%).Medical students(32%),followed by attending physicians(22%),and others(16%)comprised the most common cadre of *** 39%of the participants reported experiencing violence themselves,and 18%reported violence against colleague(s).Verbal violence(48%),emotional abuse(24%),and physical misconduct(14%)were the most common types of *** 63%of respondents identified patients or their relatives as the most frequent *** logistic regression analyses demonstrated that female gender(OR=2.08;95%CI:1.16-3.76,P=0.014)and higher frequency of night shifts(OR=2.22;95%CI:1.08-4.58,P=0.030)were associated with significantly higher odds of experiencing *** than 50%of HCWs felt less motivated and had decreased job satisfaction post-violent *** A large proportion of HCWS in the Caribbean are exposed to violence,yet the phenomenon remains *** a result,HCWs’job s

Bioaccumulation and biosorption in microalgae are effective approaches for the removal of heavy metals(HMs)from river *** objective of this study was to investigate the potential for use of acclimatized microalgae in the removal of HMs from the Yamuna River water as an acclimatizing *** active culture of Arthrospira platensis(***)was acclimatized to HMs up to a concentration of 100 mg/*** was gradually exposed to increasing concentrations of HMs in five subsequent batches with a step increase of 20 mg/L to acclimatize live cells in the simulated Yamuna River *** presence of high levels of HMs in the Yamuna River water caused growth *** empirical growth inhibition model was developed,and it predicted high threshold concentrations of HMs(210.7e424.5 mg/L),producing a positive specific growth rate of *** also showed high average removal efficiencies of HMs,including 74.0%for Cu,77.0%for Cd,50.5%for Ni,76.0%for Cr,76.5%for Pb,and 63.5%for Co,from HMs-enriched Yamuna River *** findings demonstrated that the maximum specific removal amounts of Cu,Cd,Ni,Cr,Pb,and Co were 54.0,58.0,39.0,62.8,58.9,and 45.3 mg/g,*** maximum yields of the value-added products chlorophyll and phycocyanin were 2.5 mg/g(in a batch of 40 mg/L for Cd)and 1054 mg/g(in a batch of 20 mg/L for Cu),***,acclimatized *** was proven to be a potential microalga not only for sequestration of HMs but also for production of valuable pigments.

China and CIMMYT have collaborated on wheat improvement for over 40 years and significant progress has been achieved in five aspects in China.A standardized protocol for testing Chinese noodle quality has been established with three selection criteria, i.e.,gluten quality, starch viscosity and flour color are identified as being responsible for noodle *** approaches have been used to develop and validate genespecific markers, leading to the establishment of a KASP platform, and seven cultivars have been released through application of molecular marker *** for breeding adult-plant resistance to yellow rust, leaf rust and powdery mildew, based on the pleiotropic effect of minor genes has been established, resulting in release of six *** than 330 cultivars derived from CIMMYT germplasm have been released and are now grown over 9% of the Chinese wheat production ***, physiological approaches have been used to characterize yield potential and develop high-efficiency phenotyping *** has also provided valuable training for Chinese *** of climate-resilient cultivars with application of new technology will be the priority for future collaboration.

The era of metal-on-metal(MoM) total hip arthroplasty has left the orthopaedic community with valuable insights and lessons on periprosthetic tissue reactions to metallic debris. Various terms have been used to describe the tissue reactions. Sometimes the nomenclature can be confusing. We present a review of the concepts introduced by Willert and Semlitsch in 1977,along with further developments made in the understanding of periprosthetic tissue reactions to metallic debris. We propose that periprosthetic tissue reactions be thought of as(1) gross(metallosis, necrosis, cyst formation and pseudotumour);(2) histological(macrophage-dominated, lymphocyte-dominated or mixed);and(3) molecular(expression of inflammatory mediators and cytokines such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha). Taper corrosion and modularity are discussed, along with future research directions to elucidate the antigen-presenting pathways and materi-al-specific biomarkers which may allow early detection and intervention in a patient with adverse periprosthetic tissue reactions to metal wear debris.
