Measuring spatial patterns is a crucial task in spatial *** indicators have been developed to measure patterns in a quantitative ***,most comparative studies rely on relative comparisons,limiting their explanatory power to specific case *** by advancements in earth observation providing unprecedented resolutions of settlement patterns,this paper suggests a measurement technique for spatial patterns to overcome the limits of relative *** design a model spanning a feature space based on two metrics-largest patch index and number of *** feature space is defined as‘dispersion index’and covers the entire spectrum of possible two-dimensional binary(settlement)*** model configuration allows for an unambiguous ranking of each possible pattern with respect to spatial *** spatial resolutions of input data as well as selected areas of interest influence measurement results,we test dependencies within the ***,common other spatial metrics are selected for testing whether they allow unambiguous *** scenarios,we apply the model to artificially generated patterns representing all possible configurations as well as to real-world settlement classifications differing in growth dynamics and patterns.

In the recent years,engineering new-to-nature CO_(2)-and C1-fixing metabolic pathways made a leap ***,artificial pathways promise higher yields and activity than natural ones like the Calvin-Benson-Bassham(CBB)*** question remains how to best predict their in vivo performance and what actually makes one pathway“better”than *** this context,we explore aerobic carbon fixation pathways by a computational approach and compare them based on their specific activity and yield on methanol,formate,and CO_(2)/H_(2)considering the kinetics and thermodynamics of the *** pathways found in nature or implemented in the laboratory,this included two completely new cycles with favorable features:the reductive citramalyl-CoA cycle and the 2-hydroxyglutarate-reverse tricarboxylic acid cycle.A comprehensive kinetic data set was collected for all enzymes of all pathways,and missing kinetic data were sampled with the Parameter Balancing *** and thermodynamic data were fed to the Enzyme Cost Minimization algorithm to check for respective inconsistencies and calculate pathway-specific *** specific activities of the reductive glycine pathway,the CETCH cycle,and the new reductive citramalyl-CoA cycle were predicted to match the best natural cycles with superior productsubstrate ***,the CBB cycle performed better in terms of activity compared to the alternative pathways than previously *** make an argument that stoichiometric yield is likely not the most important design criterion of the CBB ***,alternative carbon fixation pathways were paretooptimal for specific activity and product-substrate yield in simulations with C1 substrates and CO_(2)/H_(2)and therefore hold great potential for future applications in Industrial Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology.

Urbanization in China has been experiencing a remarkable dynamism in the past 40 *** most evident implication of urbanization is the physical growth of *** analyze urban land growth rates and changes in spatial urban forms from the end of the 1980s to 2010 based on the authoritative National Land Use/Cover database of *** present new spatial measures that describe‘urban land growth types’and‘fluctuations in urban land growth’within the monitoring time span with a temporal interval of five-year *** evaluate the correlations between urban land growth rates and socioeconomic *** show that(1)distinct characteristics exist on the spatiotemporal evolutions of urban land growth rates in terms of area and perimeter,*** areas exhibit the most dramatic growth rates;(2)the spatial distribution characteristics of‘urban land growth types’and‘fluctuations in urban land growth’follow similar spatial patterns across China,*** differences exist between the eastern region and other regions;and(3)a moderate correlation exists between urban area growth rate and urban population growth rate at an R2 of *** contrast,we determine no significant correlation between urban area growth rate and tertiary industry value growth rate.

Polyploidy is pervasive in angiosperm evolution and plays important roles in adaptation and ***,polyploid groups are understudied due to complex sequence homology,challenging genome assembly,and taxonomic ***,we study adaptive divergence in taxonomically complex eyebrights(Euphrasia),where recent divergence,phenotypic plasticity,and hybridization blur species *** focus on three closely related tetraploid species with contrasting ecological preferences that are sympatric on Fair Isle,a small isolated island in the British *** a common garden experiment,we show a genetic component to the morphological differences present between these *** wholegenome sequencing and a novel k-mer approach we call“Tetmer”,we demonstrate that the species are of allopolyploid origin,with a sub-genome divergence of approximately 5%.Using2 million SNPs,we show sub-genome homology across species,with a very low sequence divergence characteristic of recent *** genetic variation is broadly structured by species,with clear divergence of Fair Isle heathland Euphrasia micrantha,while grassland Euphrasia arctica and coastal Euphrasia foulaensis are more closely ***,we show that tetraploid Euphrasia is a system of allopolyploids of postglacial species divergence,where adaptation to novel environments may be conferred by old variants rearranged into new genetic lineages.

Irradiating solids with ultrashort laser pulses is known to initiate femtosecond timescale magnetization ***,sub-femtosecond spin dynamics have not yet been observed or ***,we explore ultrafast light-driven spin dynamics in a highly nonresonant strong-field *** state-of-the-art ab initio calculations,we predict that a nonmagnetic material can transiently transform into a magnetic one via dynamical extremely nonlinear spin-flipping processes,which occur on attosecond timescales and are mediated by cascaded multi-photon and spin–orbit *** are nonperturbative nonresonant analogs to the inverse Faraday effect,allowing the magnetization to evolve in very high harmonics of the laser frequency(*** up to the 42nd,oscillating at~100 attoseconds),and providing control over the speed of magnetization by tuning the laser power and ***,we show that even for linearly polarized driving,where one does not intuitively expect the onset of an induced magnetization,the magnetization transiently oscillates as the system interacts with *** response is enabled by transverse light-driven currents in the solid,and typically occurs on timescales of~500 attoseconds(with the slower femtosecond response suppressed).An experimental setup capable of measuring these dynamics through pump–probe transient absorption spectroscopy is *** results pave the way for attosecond regimes of manipulation of magnetism.

The Precambrian basement rocks of the Eastern Granite-Rhyolite Province(EGRP)in central Illinois(midcontinent region of North America)exhibit a complex history of early volcanism,granite emplacement,and intrusion of mafic rocks.A comprehensive suite of dedicated petrographic analyses,geophysical logs,and drill core from four basement-penetrating wells,two-dimensional and three-dimensional seismic reflection data,and U-Pb age data from the Illinois Basin–decatur Project(IBdP)and Illinois Carbon Capture Storage(ICCS)Project site provide new constraints for interpreting the Precambrian basement of the Illinois *** new data reveal the basement to be compositionally and structurally complex,having typical EGRP felsic volcanic rocks intruded by the first reported gabbro in the Precambrian basement in ***(n?29)from rhyolite give a U-Pb weighted mean average age of 14679 ***(n?3)from a gabbro dike that intrudes the rhyolite yield a concordia age of 107312 Ma,which corresponds to Grenville-age extension and represents the first Grenville-age rock in Illinois and in the EGRP.A high-resolution three-dimensional seismic reflection volume,coincident with the four wells,provides a context for interpreting the petrological data and implies a high degree of heterogeneity for basement rocks at the IBdP–ICCS site,as also shown by the drill *** occurrence of Grenville-age gabbro is related to a prominent bowl-like structure observed on local two-dimensional seismic reflection profiles and the three-dimensional volume that is interpreted as a deep-seated mafic sill ***,heterogeneities such as the brecciated EGRP rhyolite and later gabbro intrusion observed in the basement lithology at the IBdP–ICCS may reflect previously unknown distal elements of the 1.1 Ga Midcontinent Rift in the EGRP and more likely Grenville-age extension.

External counterpulsation therapy(ECP)is a non-invasive method to assist the circulatory *** main principle of ECP is to initiate a diastolic pulse wave in the arterial system by squeezing the inner leg *** and low veins are compressed due to muscle contractions,which are triggered by functional electrical stimulation(FES).In this work,a new trigger method for the stimulation is *** flow is determined by measuring the pulsatile change of conductivity in the observed segment by impedance *** proposed“adaptive stimulation”allows the automatic adjustment of the start and duration of the stimulation to improve transport of venous *** this purpose,a mathematical circulation model was developed for optimization of the adaptive functional electrical *** model takes into account the effects of gravity,muscle pump with or without FES,and venous *** model was shown to have a behavior similar to that of clinical *** simulation showed a flow enhancement of up to 14%and,furthermore,that the start of the stimulation is less important than the duration of each stimulation ***,an adaptation of the heart rate seems necessary,as the expulsion and refill times must remain relatively constant for an optimal pumping *** a practical approach,it is reasonable to adapt the duration of stimulation to 56%of the cardiac cycle in order to reach a maximum flow.

High performance components, e.g., fasteners, nowadays are usually made out of cold forged and heat treated steels like steel 1.5525 (20MnB4). To overcome the problems of heat treatment, e.g., low surface quality, new workpiece materials for cold forging should be found to achieve the needlessness of heat treatment after cold forging. One possible material is given by high nitrogen steels like steel 1.3815 (X8CrMnN19-19). due to the high strain hardening of these materials the process and tool design for an industrial batch process are challenging and should be conducted by FE-simulation. The numerical results show that, high strength tool materials, like PM-steels or cemented carbides, in most cases, are inevitable. Additionally to the selection of suitable tool materials, the tool layout should be developed further to achieve a high loadability of the tools. The FE-models, used for process and tool design, are validated with respect to the materials' flow and occurring forming force to assure a proper design process. Also the comparison of strength of components made out of steel 1.5525 in quenched and tempered conditions and steel 1.3815 in strain hardened condition is done. The results show that the component made of steel 1.3815 has a significantly higher strength than the component made of steel 1.5525. This shows that by the use of high nitrogen steels a high performance component can be manufactured by cold forging.
