Traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease are three distinct neurological disorders that share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. One sequela of neuroinflammation includes the pathologic hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, an endogenous microtubule-associated protein that protects the integrity of neuronal cytoskeletons. Tau hyperphosphorylation results in protein misfolding and subsequent accumulation of tau tangles forming neurotoxic aggregates. These misfolded proteins are characteristic of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease and can lead to downstream neuroinflammatory processes, including assembly and activation of the inflammasome complex. Inflammasomes refer to a family of multimeric protein units that, upon activation, release a cascade of signaling molecules resulting in caspase-induced cell death and inflammation mediated by the release of interleukin-1β cytokine. One specific inflammasome, the NOD-like receptor protein 3, has been proposed to be a key regulator of tau phosphorylation where it has been shown that prolonged NOD-like receptor protein 3 activation acts as a causal factor in pathological tau accumulation and spreading. This review begins by describing the epidemiology and pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease. Next, we highlight neuroinflammation as an overriding theme and discuss the role of the NOD-like receptor protein 3 inflammasome in the formation of tau deposits and how such tauopathic entities spread throughout the brain. We then propose a novel framework linking traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease as inflammasomedependent pathologies that exist along a temporal continuum. Finally, we discuss potential therapeutic targets that may intercept this pathway and ultimately minimize long-term neurological decline.

The N-terminal EF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NEcAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one EF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized c-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NEcAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NEcAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NEcAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NEcAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NEcAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NEcAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NEcAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NEcAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NEcAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the EF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. AIM: To investigate local corticosterone production and angiotensin-Ⅰ converting enzyme(AcE) protein expression and their interaction in healthy and inflamed ***: Acute intestinal inflammation was induced to six weeks old male Balb/c mice by administration of either 3% or 5% dextran sodium sulfate(DSS) in drinking water for 7 d(n = 12 in each group). Healthy controls(n = 12) were given tap water. corticosterone production and AcE protein shedding were measured from ex vivo incubates of the small and large intestine using EIA and ELISA, respectively. Morphological changes of the intestinal wall were assessed in hematoxylin-eosin stained tissue preparations of jejunum and distal colon. Effects of angiotensin Ⅱ, captopril and metyrapone on corticosterone production was assessed by incubating pieces of small intestine of healthy mice in the presence of 0.1, 1 or 10 μmol/L angiotensin Ⅱ, 1, 10 or 100 μmol/L captopril or 1, 10 or 100 μmol/L metyrapone solutions and measuring corticosterone released to the incubation buffer after 90 min(n = 5 in each group).RESULTS: Both concentrations of DSS induced inflammation and morphological changes in large intestines but not in small intestines. changes were observed as distortions of the crypt structure, mucosal erosion, immune cell infiltration to the mucosa and submucosal edema. Ex vivo corticosterone production(2.9 ± 1.0 ng/mL vs 2.0 ± 0.8 ng/mL, P = 0.034) and AcE shedding(269.2 ± 97.1 ng/m L vs 175.7 ± 52.2 ng/mL, P = 0.016) were increased in small intestines in 3% DSS group compared to the controls. In large intestine, corticosterone production was increased compared to the controls in both 3% DSS(229 ± 81 pg/mL vs 158 ± 30 pg/mL, P = 0.017) and 5% DSS groups(366 ± 163 pg/mL vs 158 ± 30 pg/mL, P = 0.002). Large intestine AcE shedding was increased in 5% DSS group(41.5 ± 9.0 ng/mL vs 20.9 ± 5.2 ng/mL, P = 0.034). In the metropolises,it is unlikely to use merely solar and wind energy to pursue zero carbon building ***,it would become possible if biofuel-driven trigeneration systems(BDTS)are *** is thus essential to assess the application opportunity of BDTS in a holistic *** this study,BDTS offered definite primary energy saving of up to 15%and carbon emissions reduction of at least 86%in different types of non-residential buildings as compared to the conventional *** 24/7 operation for the hotel and hospital buildings,the corresponding BDTS could even achieve zero carbon *** the BDTS primed with compression-ignition internal combustion engine were not economically viable even in running cost due to the high local biodiesel price *** BDTS primed with spark-ignition engine and fueled by biogas,however,would have economic merit when carbon price was considered for the conventional systems that fully utilize fossil *** of carbon tax and social cost could have the payback ceilings of 8 years and 2 years respectively for most of building ***,the results could reflect the application potential of BDTS for non-residential buildings,leading the pathway to carbon neutrality for sustainable sub-tropical cities.

This study is the first to report the radiocarbon ages, mineralogical, morphological, geochemical and stable isotope compositions of calcretes from Neogene sediments around lakes Eymir and Mogan in the G？lba？？ Basin of central Anatolia. Morphologically different forms of calcretes in the G？lba？？ Basin include powdery, nodular, fracture infill, laminar and hardpan types. calcite is the dominant mineral of calcrete compositions; the diagnostic features of dessication cracks, random fractures, Mn O linings and dense sparitic infillings are observed. chemical analyses show arid conditions with mean annual precipitation of 〈50 mm. δ13c compositions of the calcretes range from-6.77‰ to-9.32‰ PDB, typical for most pedogenic calcretes, reflecting the development under seasonally arid climates and c3-dominated vegetation cover. δ18O values are between-5.57‰ and-7.80‰ PDB, indicating the formation from meteoric water in a vadose zone environment. The results suggest that the Middle Pleistocene was arider and warmer, favouring the formation of palygorskite in association with the different forms of calcrete occurrences, whereas the Late Pleistocene was dryer and cooler, supporting the development of calcretes.

Nonlinear interactions of vortex rings with a free surface are considered in an incompressible, ideal fluid using the vortex contour dynamics technique and the boundary integral equation method. The flow is axisymmetric and the vorticity is linearly distributed in the vortex. Effects of the gravity and the surface tension as well as the initial geometric parameter of the vortex on the interaction process are investigated in considerable detail. The interaction process may be divided into three major stages: the vortex free-traveling stage, the collision stage, and the vortex stretching and rebounding stage. Time evolutions of both the vortex and free surface under various conditions are provided and analyzed. Two kinds of waves exist on the free surface during interaction. In a special case where the gravity and surface tension are very weak or the vortex is very strong, an electric-bulb-like 'cavity' is formed an the free surface and the vortex is trapped in the 'cavity' for quite a. long time, resulting in a large amount, of fluid above the mean fluid surface.
