Between Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity

The origin of elementary particle mass is considered as a function of n-valued graviton quanta. To develop this concept we begin in a cold region of “empty space” comprised of only microscopic gravitons oscillating at angular frequency ω. From opposite directions enters a pair of stray protons. Upon colliding, heat and energy are released. Customarily, this phase and what follows afterward would be described by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Instead, we argue for an intermediary step. One in which neighboring gravitons absorb discrete amounts of plane-wave energy. Captured by the graviton, the planewave becomes a standing wave, whereupon its electromagnetic energy densities are converted into gravitational quanta. Immediately thereafter an elementary particle is formed and emitted, having both mass and spin. From absorption to conversion to emission occurs in less than 3.7 × 10−16 s. During this basic unit of hybrid time, general relativity and quantum physics unite into a common set of physical laws. As additional stray protons collide the process continues. Over eons, vast regions of spacetime become populated with low-mass particles. These we recognize to be dark matter by its effects on large scale structures in the universe. Its counterpart, dark energy, arises when the conversion of gravitational quanta to particle emission is interrupted. This causes the gravitational quanta to be ejected. It is recognized by its large scale effects on the universe.

Loss of tau expression attenuates neurodegeneration associated with α-synucleinopathy

Background: Neuronal dysfunction and degeneration linked to α-synuclein (αS) pathology is thought to be responsible for the progressive nature of Parkinson’s disease and related dementia with Lewy bodies. Studies have indicated bidirectional pathological relationships between αS pathology and tau abnormalities. We recently showed that A53T mutant human αS (HuαS) can cause post-synaptic and cognitive deficits that require microtubule-associated protein tau expression. However, the role of tau in the development of αS pathology and subsequent neuronal dysfunction has been controversial. Herein, we set out to determine the role of tau in the onset and progression of αS pathology (α-synucleinopathy) using a transgenic mouse model of α-synucleinopathy lacking mouse tau expression. Methods: Transgenic mice expressing A53T mutant HuαS (TgA53T) were crossed with mTau−/− mice to generate TgA53T/mTau−/−. To achieve more uniform induction of α-synucleinopathy in mice, we used intramuscular injections of αS preformed fibrils (PFF) in non-transgenic (nTg), TgA53T, TgA53T/mTau−/−, and mTau−/− mice. Motor behavior was analyzed at 70 days post inoculation (dpi) of PFF and tissues for biochemical and neuropathological analysis were collected at 40 dpi, 70 dpi, and end stage. Results: Loss of tau expression significantly delayed the onset of motor deficits in the TgA53T model and the progression of α-synucleinopathy disease, as evidenced by a significant reduction in histopathological and behavioral markers of neurodegeneration and disease, and a significant improvement in survival. In vitro application of PFF to primary mouse hippocampal neurons demonstrated no changes in PFF uptake and processing or pS129 αS aggregation as a function of tau expression. However, PFF-induced neurotoxicity, including morphological deficits in nTg neurons, was prevented with tau removal. The impact of genotyping strategies and statistical models on accuracy of genomic prediction for survival in pigs

目的"Critical Care"(重症照顾)和"Intensive Care Unit"(重症监护室)这两个术语在实际工作中描述一个医疗场所时经常被互换使用。对"Critical Care"的口语化使用使得其准确定义具有挑战性。本文旨在对"Critical Care"进行概念分析,制定其操作性定义(operational definition),明确其内涵。方法采用Walker和Avant八步法来指导本研究。检索数据库(CINAHL、Scopus、PubMed、ProQuest Dissertation Abstracts和Med line in EBSCO)中"Critical Care"相关文献,包括1990--2022年以英文撰写发表的质性和量性研究论文。结果.共检索到439篇论文,其中47篇符合纳人标准。"Critical Care"的概念属性包括:1)对疾病/损伤的不适应;2)收治标准;3)高精医疗技术;4)专业的医疗护理人员。前因是疾病/损伤进展到危急状况,患者身体和心理功能都明显下降,后续影响是死亡或存活(有或没有ICU治疗后综合症)。结论重症监护环境的高技术含量特性使关于“Critical Care"的描述更具挑战性。对此术语进行概念分析有助于明确其内涵和范围,为未来研究提供参考,促进相关评估工具的开发,深入了解重症监护环境中的医疗护理工作本质。
