Improvement of Impeller Blade Structure for Gas Injection Refining under Mechanical Stirring

Abstract： The impeller blade structure for gas injection refining under mechanical stirring has been explored by water model experiments. A sloped swept-back blade impeller is＇proposed for the purpose. The central part of the impeller is disk- or plate-shaped, and the blades are fitted to the side of the disk or plate. In addition, a disk is put on the top side of the impeller blades. The impeller can strengthen the radial and downward flow between the blades and weaken the swirl flow in the zone above the impeller. These effects on flow phenomena are favorable for disintegration and wide dispersion of bubbles which are injected from a nozzle attached to the center of the underside of the impeller. In addition, the sloped swept-back impeller requires less power consumption. The impeller shaft should be placed away from the vessel center so as to disperse the injected bubbles widely in the bath under mechanical stirring even with unidi- rectional impeller rotation and without installing baffles. The number of gas holes in the nozzle and the direction of gas injection have a little effect on the bubble disintegration and dispersion in the bath. Highly efficient gas injection refining can be established under the conditions of proper impeller size, larger nozzle immersion depth, larger eccen- tricity and rotation speed of the impeller. The sloped swept back blade impeller can decrease the power consumption and vet improve the bubble disintegration and wide dist^ersion in the bath.

Crustal Signature of δ^(13)C and Nitrogen Content in Microdiamonds from Erzgebirge, Germany: Ion Microprobe Studies

The study of δ13CCpDB （Pee Dee Belemnite） and nitrogen contents in 1 to 5-pm-diameter microdinmonds included in garnets from the qnartz-feldspathic gneisses （Erzgehirge, Germany） was performed in situ with the Nano-scale Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer. The results revealed that there were two stages of diamond crystallization from a C-O-H supeeritical fluid rich in biogenic carbon and diverse minor elements of crustal origin. The δ13CCpDB Of the Erzgebirge diamond of the first stage falls in the range -17‰ to 19‰, with an average value of -17.8‰; the average content of nitrogen is 820 ppm. Diamonds of the second stage are characterized by δ13CPDB=-21.5‰ to -25.5‰, with an average value of -23.24‰; the average nitrogen content is non-homogeneously scattered from 740 ppm to 3 370 ppm among 6 diamonds situated in garnets within the same polished rock slide. Both diamond of the first stage and diamond of the second stage carbon reservoirs belong to biogenic matter, therefore confirming deep subduction of the continental crust sediments and their subsequent exhumation during the Variscan orogeny.

The nasogastric tube(NGT) has become a frequently used device to alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms. Nasogastric tube syndrome(NTS) is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening complication of an indwelling NGT. NTS is characterized by acute upper airway obstruction due to bilateral vocal cord paralysis. We report a case of a 76-year-old man with NTS, induced by an indwelling long intestinal tube. He was admitted to our hospital for treatment of sigmoid colon cancer. He underwent sigmoidectomy to release a bowel obstruction, and had a long intestinal tube inserted to decompress the intestinal tract. He presented acute dyspnea following prolonged intestinal intubation, and bronchoscopy showed bilateral vocal cord paralysis. The NGT was removed immediately, and tracheotomy was performed. The patient was finally discharged in a fully recovered state. NTS be considered in patients complaining of acute upper airway obstruction, not only with a NGT inserted but also with a long intestinal tube.

Effects of Chinese herbal medicine on plasma glucose,protein and energy metabolism in sheep

Background： The use of antibiotics in animal diets is facing negative feedback due to the hidden danger of drug residues to human health. Traditional Chinese herbal medicine has been used to replace antibiotics in the past two decades and played an increasingly important role in livestock production. The present study was carried out to assess the feeding effects of a traditional nourishing Chinese herbal medicine mixture on kinetics of plasma glucose, protein and energy metabolism in sheep. Ruminal fermentation characteristics were also determined. Methods： Four sheep were fed on either mixed hay （MH-diet） or MH-diet supplemented with 2% of Chinese herbal medicine （mixture of Astragalus root, Angelica root and Atractylodes rhizome; CHM-diet） over two 3S-day periods using a crossover design. The turnover rate of plasma glucose was measured with an isotope dilution method using [U-^13C]glucose. The rates of plasma leucine turnover and leucine oxidation, whole body protein synthesis （WBPS） and metabolic heat production were measured using the [1-^13C]leucine dilution and open circuit calorimetry. Results： Body weight gain of sheep was higher （P = 0.03） for CHM-diet than for MH-diet. Rumen pH was lower （P = 0.02）, concentration of rumen total volatile fatty acid tended to be higher （P = 0.05） and acetate was higher （P = 0.04） for CHM-diet than for MH-diet. Turnover rates of plasma glucose and leucine did not differ between diets. Oxidation rate of leucine tended to be higher （P = 0.06） for CHM-diet than for MH-diet, but the WBPS did not differ between diets. Metabolic heat production tended to be greater （P = 0.05） for CHM-diet than for MH-diet. Conclusions： The sheep fed on CHM-diet had a higher body weight gain and showed positive impacts on rumen fermentation and energy metabolism without resulting in any adverse response. Therefore, these results suggested that the Chinese herbal medicine mixture should be considered as a potential feed additive for sheep.

Large bubbles seriously reduce the efficiencies of the interactions between the bubbles and the molten steel,such as energy transfer,momentum transfer,mass transfer and chemical *** reduce the size of the bubbles and increase the gas–liquid interface area,a novel non-intrusive method of bubble refinement was proposed,which only depends on the molten steel flow field controlled by the rotating electromagnetic *** flow fields of the molten steel for bubble refinement were analyzed,and the corresponding bubble refinement was *** was found that the molten steel formed obvious rotating turbulent flow for bubble refinement under the unidirectional rotating electromagnetic ***,the large vortex in the center of the molten pool caused by the rotating flow made the bubbles aggregate and coalesce again,resulting in formation of larger bubbles and gas *** suppress the central vortex formation and enhance the bubble refinement,the forward-reverse rotating electromagnetic field for bubble refinement was *** irregular and chaotic flow occurred repeatedly because of alternating forward and reverse rotating in a short period,so that the turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent dissipation of the flow field always remained at a high level which favors bubble *** a result,the bubble diameter can decrease by more than 50%compared to that without electromagnetic ***,it is important that this non-intrusive kind of bubble refinement method completely avoids the introduction of non-metallic inclusions caused by intrusive configuration.

The new method of in-situ desulfurization with mechanical stirring of new type impellers was introduced, in which the bubble＇s dispersion and disintegration of magnesium vapor were the key to boosting the desulfurization efficiency and increasing the utilization rate of magnesium. Effects of different new type of impellers on bubble dis persion and disintegration were studied through bubble image analysis, gas-liquid mass transfer, and power con- sumption levels of different impeller structures. The results showed that the sloped swept-back blade impeller-2 pro- duces optimal bubble＇s dispersion and disintegration, as well as higher volumetric mass transfer coefficient and CO2 gas utilization while consuming the least power. Numerical simulation result with Fluent software also showed that the sloped swept-back blade impeller-2 has higher turbulent kinetic energy and better velocity distribution than the other two impellers.

Degassing of deep-sourced CO_(2) from Xianshuihe-Anninghe fault zones in the eastern Tibetan Plateau

A large number of gases are releasing from the medium-high temperature geothermal fields distributed along the large-scale strike-slip fault zones in the southeastern margin of the Tibetan *** this study,11 hot spring water and the associated bubbling gas samples were collected along the Xianshuihe-Anninghe fault zones(XSH-ANHFZ)and analyzed for chemical and isotopic *** δ^(18)_(H_(2)O) and δD_(H_(2)O) values indicate that hot spring waters are predominantly meteoric origin recharged from different *** water samples are significantly enriched in Na^(+) and HCO_(3) due to the dissolution of regional evaporites,carbonates and Na-silicates.^(3)He/^(4)He ratios of the gas samples are 0.025-2.73 times the atmospheric *** ^(3)He/^(4)He ratios are high in the kangding region where the dense faults are distributed,and gradually decrease with increasing distance from kangding towards both sides along the Xianshuihe fault zones(XSHFZ).Hydrothermal fluids have dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC)concentrations from 2 to 42 mmol L^(-1),δ^(13)C_(DIC) from -6.9‰ to 1.3‰,δ^(13)C_(CO_(2)) from -7.2‰ to -3.6‰ and Δ^(14)C from -997‰ to -909‰.Combining regional geochemical and geological information,the CO_(2)sources can be attributed to deep-sourced CO_(2)from mantle and metamorphism of marine carbonate,and shallow-sourced CO_(2)from the dissolution of marine carbonate and biogenic CO_(2).The mass balance model shows that 11±6% of the DIC is sourced from the dissolution of shallow carbonate minerals,9±8% formed by pyrolysis of sedimentary organic matter,80±9% derived from deep metamorphic origin and mantle-derived CO_(2).Among them,the deep-sourced CO_(2)in Anninghe fault zones(ANHFZ)is merely metamorphic carbon,whereas ca.12% and ca.88% of the deep-sourced CO_(2)in the XSHFZ are derived from the mantle and metamorphic carbon,*** average deep-sourced CO_(2)flux in the kangding geothermal field is estimated to be 160 ta^(-1).If all the hot

A fast video camera is verified to be a powerful t0ol for observation of filaments/blobs near the last closed flux surface （LCFS）. In order to extract the fluctuation component from the raw data of the fast camera, a pre-processing technique, sliding time window averaging subtraction （STWAS） has been developed to remove the background of slowly varying emission from the bulk plasma. By using this pre-processing technique, the fast camera data are analyzed. A method to identify the filaments in the pre-processed image is also discussed.

Inflammatory bowel disease of primary sclerosing cholangitis:A distinct entity?

This is a review of the characteristic findings of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)associated with primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)and their usefulness in the diagnosis of sclerosing *** is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by idiopathic fibrous obstruction and is frequently associated with *** with PSC(PSC-IBD)shows an increased incidence of pancolitis,mild symptoms,and colorectal *** an increased incidence of pancolitis is a characteristic finding,some cases are endoscopically diagnosed as right-sided ulcerative *** studies have revealed that inflammation occurs more frequently in the right colon than the left *** frequency of rectal sparing and backwash ileitis should be investigated in a future study based on the same *** cholangiographic findings of immunoglobulin G4-related sclerosing cholangitis(IgG4-SC)are similar to those of *** rare association between IBD and IgG4-SC and the unique characteristics of PSC-IBD are useful findings for distinguishing PSC from IgG4-SC.
