Experimental and numerical investigation of a solar eductorassisted low-pressure water desalination system

Greenhouse solar-energy driven desalination technology is potentially well suited for supplying water and small scale irrigation in remote and/or rural areas, and for avoiding over-exploitation of available water resources. The efficiency and productivity of these systems are however low, in part because the heat of evaporation has to be transferred as waste heat to ambient air during condensation. In order to maximize energy regeneration during condensation we propose an educator based system that lowers the evaporation process temperature by reducing pressure. The feasibility of the educator assisted passive solar desalination system is investigated using a detailed computational fluid dynamics analysis complemented by experiments. The study focuses in particular on the ability of the new design to lower the required evaporation temperature and thereby reduce the energy intensity of the process. Two configurations, with open and closed educator, are investigated and a detailed analysis of the thermofluid processes is presented. The configuration with a closed educator installed outside the evaporation chamber shows very promising performance. The proposed system can maintain the maximum temperature and pressure in theevaporation chamber below the desirable temperature and pressure thresholds （30 ℃ and 5 kPa）. The analysis and experimental data also show it is possible to further reduce energy requirements by reducing the motive water flow rates.

salvia fruticosa reduces intrinsic cellular and H_2O_2-induced DNA oxidation in HEK 293 cells;assessment using flow cytometry

Objective:To investigate the role of water-soluble extract of salvia fruticosa(Creek sage)(***) leaves in reducing both intrinsic cellular and H_2O_2-induced DNA oxidation in cultured human embryonic kidney 293 *** to the Eastern-Mediterranean basin,is widely used as a medicinal herb for treatment of various ***:Dried leaves of *** were extracted in phosphate buffer saline and purified using both vacuum and high pressure *** mL of the preparation contained(7.1±1.0)mg of ***-293 cells were incubated in one set with *** extract in the presence of 0.1 mmol/L H_2O_2,and in the other set with the addition of the extract *** DNA oxidation was measured using fluorescence upon fluorescein isothiocyanate derivarization of 8-oxoguanine *** fluorescence was measured using flow cytometry ***:Cells incubated 3 h with 150μL extract and exposed to 0.1 mmol/L H_2O_2 showed lower intensity of fluorescence,and thus lower DNA ***,cells incubated 3 h with 100μ*** the extract showed lower intensity of fluorescence,and thus lower intrinsic cellular DNA oxidation compared to control(without ***).Conchisions:The results from this study suggest that the water-soluble extract of *** leaves protects against both H_2O_2-induced and intrinsic cellular DNA oxidation in human embryonic kidney 293 cells.

Voussoir beam model for lower strong roof strata movement in longwall mining - Case study

The paper presents the influence of varying immediate roof thickness on the lower strong roof strata movement and failure pattern in longwall coal mining with large mining height. The investigation is based on 58 geological drill holes and hydraulic shield pressure measurements around the longwall Panel 42105 of the Buertai Mine in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. The longwall Panel 42105 is characterized by relatively soft immediate roof strata of varying thickness superposed by strong strata,herein defined as lower strong roof. A voussoir beam model is adopted to interpret the structural movement of the lower strong roof strata and shield pressure measurements. It is shown that when the immediate roof is relatively thick, the broken overlying lower strong roof tends to form a stable voussoir beam with previously broken layer, thus not exerting high pressure on the hydraulic shield and working face. When the immediate roof is relatively thin, the broken overlying lower strong roof tends to behave as a cantilever beam, thus exerting higher pressure on the hydraulic shield and working face. Comparison of model predictions with measured time-weighted average shield pressure(TWAP) shows good agreement.

Nowadays,tandem structures have become a valuable competitor to conventional silicon solar cells,especially for perovskite over silicon,as metal halides surpassed si with tunable bandgaps,high absorption coefficient,low deposition,and preparation *** led to a remarkable enhancement in the overall efficiency of the whole cell and its ***,this expands the usage of photovoltaic technology in various fields of applications not only under conventional light source spectrum in outdoor areas,i.e.,AM1.5G,but also under artificial light sources found indoors with broadband intensity values,such as Internet of things(Io Ts)applications to name a *** introduce a numerical model to analyze perovskite/si tandem cells(PssTCs)using both crystalline silicon(c-si)and hydrogenated amorphous silicon(a-si:H)experimentally validated as base *** proposed layers have been studied with J-V characteristics and energy band diagrams under AM1.5G by using sCAPs-1D software version_(3).***,the proposed architectures were tested under various artificial lighting *** proposed structures of Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12)/CsPbCl_(3)/MAPbBr_(3)/CH_(3)NH_(3)PbI_(3)/si recorded a maximum power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 25.25%for c-si and 17.02%for a-si:H,with nearly 7%enhancement concerning the si bare cell in both cases.

Background:Ecological functions and processes in urban ecosystems are governed by various human ***-adapted and city-exploiting animal species are expected to present certain specific behavioral and physiological traits in comparison to city-avoiders or conspecific individual frequenting less urbanized or rural environments.A trait of high importance,the plumage color polymorphism has been selected as the main study model and was correlated with different morphological and physiological parameters to highlight its importance in determining the possible health status of urban Feral Pigeons(Columba livia)in North African urban ***:Different body morphometrics,hematological and hemoparasitic parameters were quantified on freeliving Feral Pigeons in urban environments of northern ***,plumage melanin-based coloration(MBC)was measured and the data collected at the individual scale was correlated with the previous parameters using linear and non-linear modeling ***:Plumage MBC scores of the sampled Feral Pigeons ranged between 0.3%and 74.8%.Among the 12 morphological traits measured,body weight,tail length and total length were deemed to be positively correlated with *** morphs appeared to have more hemoparasites compared to lighter *** the same observation goes with the immunity but with non-linear *** number of monocytes and granulocytes increased with the increase in MBC levels in lighter morphs,while pigeons with high MBC scores exhibited negative relationships between MBC levels and the number of white blood ***:Despite the existence of a number of studies demonstrating phenotypic directional selection,further studies are undoubtedly necessary to understand in detail the underlying mechanisms in species life-history strategies between differently colored *** of this correlative study open exciting perspectives revealing that MBC can be considered a good indicato

Using Automation Controller system and simulation Program for Testing Closed Circuits of Mini-sprinkler Irrigation system

The field experiments were conducted at the experimental farm of Faculty of agricultural, southern Illinois University sIUC, UsA. The project makes the irrigation automated. With the use of low cost sensors and the simple circuitry makes currently project a low cost product, which can be bought even by a poor farmer. This research work is best suited for places where water is scares and has to be used in limited quantity and this proposal is a model to modernize the agriculture industries at a mass scale with optimum expenditure. In the field of agricultural engineering, use of sensor method of irrigation operation is important and it is well known that closed circuits of Mini-sprinkler irrigation system are very economical and efficient. Closed circuits are considered one of the modifications of Mini-sprinkler irrigation system, and added advantages to Mini-sprinkler irrigation system because it can relieve low operating pressures problem at the end of the lateral lines. In the conventional closed circuits of Mini-sprinkler irrigation system, the farmer has to keep watch on irrigation timetable, which is different for different crops. Using this system, one can save manpower, water to improve production and ultimately profit. The data could be summarized in following: Irrigation methods under study when using lateral length 60 mcould be ranked in the following ascending order according the values of the predicted and measured head losses CM1M-sIs *** correlation (Corr.) coefficients were used to compare the predicted and measured head losses along the lateral lines of all the closed circuits designs. Generally, the values of correlation analysis were (>0.90) were obtained with 0% field slope60 mlength (experimental conditions) for all closed *** interaction between irrigation methods: at the start there are significant differences between CM2M-sIs and CM1M-sIs.

serratia marcescens as Opportunistic Pathogen and the Importance of Continuous Monitoring of Nosocomial Infection in Makah City,saudi Arabia

The aim of this study was to the evaluation of frequency and distribution of serratia marcescens in the hospital departments and determination of antimicrobial resistance of the isolated strains. Methods: The study included 81 serratia marcescens strains isolated from 61 patients hospitalized in the in the different hospital wards of Al-Noor specialist Hospital within the period from 1/11/2012 to 1/11/2013. The strains were isolated from wound swabs, blood cultures, sputum, urine culture, fluid, catheter and throat swab, wound swabs, blood cultures and cerebrospinal fluid. Results: The isolates were identified by conventional method and the results and susceptibility testing were confirmed by VITEC-2 Compact. Most frequently serratia marcescens has been implicated in ICU [21%] followed by male medical [18.5%] and emergency department [12.3%]. The resistance of serratia strains was high, excepting imipenem (15%), Meropenem (27) and the resistance was higher with ampicillin (97.5%), Cefoxitin (90%) and Tetracycline (86%). Conclusion: Continuous monitoring of nosocomial infections is indispensable. Phenotypic characterization of the isolates is useful for studying the relationship of microbial pathogens.

Pathogenesis of columnar-lined esophagus

since its initial description, the pathogenesis of the columnar-lined esophagus （CLE） has been surrounded by many controversies. The first controversy is related to the existence of the condition itself. The second controversy centers on whether the CLE is a congenital or an acquired condition. In this article, we review the congenital and acquired theories of development of CLE and discuss the various factors in acquisition of CLE. The bulk of evidence in the literature suggests that CLE is an acquired condition.
