Diagnosis and treatment of primary seminoma of the prostate:A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Primary seminoma of the prostate(PSP)is a rare type of extragonadal germ cell tumour that is easily misdiagnosed,owing to the lack of specific clinical *** is therefore necessary for clinicians to work toward improving the accuracy of PSP *** SUMMARY A 59-year-old male patient presenting with acute urinary retention was admitted to a local hospital.A misdiagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia led to an improper *** revealed PSP invading the bladder neck and bilateral seminal *** radiotherapy treatment for the local lesion was performed,and the patient had a disease-free survival period of 96 *** case was analysed along with 13 other cases of PSP identified from the *** four of the cases(28.6%)were initially confirmed by prostate *** these cases,imaging examinations showed an enlarged prostate(range 6-11 cm)involving the bladder neck(13/14).Of the 14 total cases,11(78.6%)presented typical pure seminoma cell features,staining strongly positive for placental alkaline phosphatase,CD117,and *** median age at diagnosis was 51(range 27-59)years,and patients had a median progression-free survival time of 48(range 6-156)mo after treatment by cisplatin-based chemotherapy combined with surgery or *** remaining three were cases of mixed embryonal tumours with focal seminoma,which had clinical features similar to those of pure PSP,in addition that they also had elevated serum alpha fetoprotein,beta-human chorionic gonadotropin,and lactose *** PSP should be considered in patients younger than 60 years with an enlarged prostate invading the bladder *** prostate biopsies may aid in proper PSP ***-based chemotherapy is still the main primary therapy for PSP.

Si-C Foam Porous-Medium Combustion Power-Generation System for Low-Calorific-Value Biomass Syngas

Syngas produced from the gasification of organic feedstocks from biomass is one of the clean and sustainable sources of *** advantages of simple access and renewability of biomass energy can meet the energy needs of temporary power *** study presents a biomass power-generation system for vehicular *** biomass and a free-piston Stirling engine generator(FPSEG)as the primary material and prime mover,respectively,biomass energy is converted into electricity by combusting the syngas to heat the *** and key parameter design for biomass gasification and thermoelectric conversion systems within a power generation system were performed.A porous medium area was constructed using Si-C foam ceramics to obtain an energy-conversion experimental *** effects of bed height,porosity,porous-region diameter,and air-intake conditions on the power-generation performance were investigated,and optimisations were performed for the thermoelectric conversion *** rate of increase during FPSEG power generation first increased and then decreased with increasing bed height,peaking at a bed height of 40 *** increasing porous-region diameter accelerated FPSEG power generation,whereas porosity changes in the porous media did not significantly affect the rate of change during FPSEG power *** increasing air intake,the rate of increase during power generation first increased and then *** maximum change rate and the highest thermoelectric conversion efficiency of the power-generation system occurred at 9.5 m^(3)/h and 6.5 m^(3)/h(~45.1%)air intakes,*** the thermal inertia and combustion structure of the thermoelectric conversion system significantly increased the power-generation rate of the system,with 1.8 W/s being observed at a 9.7 m^(3)/h air intake.

Control crosslink network and chain connectivity are essential to develop shape memory polymers(SMPs)with high shape memory capabilities,adjustable response temperature,and satisfying mechanistical *** this study,novel poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL)-poly(2-vinyl)ethylene glycol(PVEG)copolymers bearing multi-pendant vinyl groups is synthesized by branched-selective allylic etherification polymerization of vinylethylene carbonate(VEC)with linear and tetra-arm PCLs under a synergistic catalysis of palladium complex and boron *** thiol-ene photo-click reaction of PCL-PVEG copolymers with multifunctional thiols can rapidly access a serious crosslinked SMPs with high shape memory *** thermal properties,mechanical properties and response temperature of the obtained SMPs are tunable by the variation of PCL prepolymers,vinyl contents and functionality of ***,high elastic modulus in the rubbery plateau region can be maintained effectively owing to high-density topological networks of the PCL *** addition,the utility of the present SMPs is further demonstrated by the post-functionalization via thiol-ene photo-click chemistry.

Unraveling the exceptional kinetics of Zn‖organic batteries in hydrated deep eutectic solution

Intuitively,the solvation structure featuring stronger interacted sheath in deep eutectic solution（DES）electrolyte would result in sluggish interfacial charge transfer and intense polarization,which obstructs its practical application in emerging Zn based ***,here we discover a Zn‖organic battery with exceptional kinetics properties enabled by a hydrated DES electrolyte,which can render higher discharge capacity,smaller voltage polarization,and faster kinetics of charge transfer in comparison with conventional aqueous 3 M ZnCl2electrolyte,though its viscosity is two orders of magnitude higher than the *** improved kinetics of charge transfer and ion diffusion is demonstrated to originate from the local electron structure regulation of cathode in hydrated DES ***,the DES electrolyte has also been shown to restrict parasitic reaction associated with active water by preferential urea-molecular adsorption on Zn surface and stronger water trapping in solvation structure,giving rise to long-term stable dendrite-free Zn plating/*** work provides a new rationale for understanding electrochemical behaviors of organic cathodes in DES electrolyte,which is conducive to the development of high-performance Zn‖organic batteries.

Late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic volcanic-sedimentary history of the southeastern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt:Timing of uplift of the Inner Mongolia paleo-uplift

The Kulun region is located in the eastern Bainaimiao arc belt on the southeastern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB),adjacent to the North China Craton(NCC)to the *** region records the closure of the PaleoAsian Ocean during the Paleozoic to early Mesozoic and is key to study the tectonic evolution of the northern margin of the *** conducted zircon U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotope analysis of volcanic-sedimentary and intrusive rocks in the Kulun *** volcanic-sedimentary rocks were previously assigned an early Carboniferous age,but include volcanic rocks with ages of 267–266 Ma and sedimentary rocks with youngest detrital zircon age peaks of 265–244 Ma,which were intruded by a granite with an age of 242 *** indicates that these rocks are actually middle Permian to Middle Triassic in age(267–242Ma)and correspond to the Qingfengshan and Liujiagou ***,two volcanic rock samples have highεHf(t)values(+1.6 to+16.1)and relatively young two-stage Hf model ages(1095–327 Ma),indicating their sources associated with the *** age spectra and Hf isotopic characteristics of detrital zircons from the sedimentary rocks suggest that,during the middle Permian to Middle Triassic,the sedimentary provenance in the Kulun region was mainly the ***,by the Early Jurassic,the provenance changed to the NCC(i.e.,the Inner Mongolia Paleo-uplift,IMPU).This result,combined with the development of a series of conglomerates on the northern margin of the NCC in the Late Triassic(i.e.,Xingshikou,Xiaoyingzi,and Xiaohekou formations),indicates the Kulun region experienced an abrupt change in paleogeography during the Late Triassic,with the IMPU undergoing significant uplift and thus becoming the main sediment source in the Kulun *** on the Late Triassic alkaline igneous belt(235–215 Ma)in the IMPU,we speculate that this uplift was caused by detachment of the southward-subducting Paleo-Asian oceanic plate,which occurred in a post-o

Association of genetic variations of the prostasin gene with essential hypertension in the Xinjiang Kazakh population

Background Transgenic overexpression of human prostasin in rats disturbs salt balance and causes hypertension. We investigated whether genetic variations in prostasin were implicated in hypertension or related phenotypes in the Xinjiang Kazakh *** We sequenced all exons and the promoter regions of the prostasin gene in 94 hypertensive individuals, and the genotype identification was performed by the TaqMan polymerase chain reaction method. Case-control studies were conducted in 938 Kazakh *** E342K and 2827G＞A, which are novel variants, were successfully genotyped in the general Xinjiang Kazakh population with a sample size of 938 individuals （406 men and 532 women）. Only one hypertensive patient was identified with the E342K mutation. No significant association was observed between 2827G＞A and hypertension. However,quantitative traits of hypertensive intermediate phenotypes were significantly associated with the A allele; P=-0.041 and 0.034 for body mass index （BMI） in the additive and recessive models, P=0.042 and 0.018 for OGTT-2h glucose in the additive and recessive models, P=0.031 for IRT-3h insulin in the recessive model, and P=0.038 for serum potassium in the dominant *** This study does not provide evidence of a major role of prostasin variation in blood pressure ***, association of prostasin polymorphisms with hypertension and metabolic effects can be observed in our population. Further investigation is warranted to clarify the relevance of prostasin polymorphisms to blood pressure regulation.

The adsorption of pollutants can not only promote the direct surface reaction,but also modify the catalyst itself to improve its photoelectric characteristics,which is rarely studied for water treatment with inorganic photocatalyst.A highly crystalline BiOBr(c-BiOBr)was synthesized by a two-step preparation *** to the calcination,the highly crystalline enhanced the interface interaction between pollutant and *** complex of organic pollutant and[Bi_(2)O_(2)]^(2+)could promote the active electron transfer from the adsorbed pollutant to c-BiOBr for the direct pollutant degradation by holes(h^(+)).Moreover,the pollutant adsorption actually modified c-BiOBr and promoted more unpaired electrons,which would coupling with the photoexcitation to promote generate more O_(2)^(•-).The molecular modification effect derived from pollutant adsorption significantly improved the removal of *** work strongly deepens the understanding of the molecularmodification effect from the pollutant adsorption and develops a novel and efficient approach for water treatment.

Mechanism of AsperosaponinⅥRelated to EGFR/MMP9/AKT/PI3K Pathway in Treatment of Rheumtoid Arthritis

Objective:To explore the mechanism of action of asperosaponinⅥ(AⅥ)in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and validate it in ex vivo experiments using network pharmacology and molecular docking ***:The predicted targets of AⅥwere obtained from PharmMaper,UniProt and Swiss Target Prediction platforms,the disease targets were collected from Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man,Therapeutic Target Database and Gene Cards databases,the intersection targets of AⅥand RA were obtained from Venny 2.1.0,and the protein-protein interaction(PPI)network was obtained from STRING database,which was analyzed by Cytoscape software and screened to obtain the core *** software was used to analyze PPI network and screen the core *** on the Database for Annotation,Visualization and Integrated Discovery database,Gene Ontology functional and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis were performed,and Cytoscape software was used to construct the"DiseasePathway-Target-Drug"network,which was finally verified by molecular docking and animal ***:Network pharmacological studies showed that AⅥwas able to modulate 289 targets,with 102 targets for the potential treatment of RA,with the core pathway being the AKT/PI3K signaling pathway,and the core targets being the epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)and matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP9).Molecular docking results showed that AⅥcould produce strong binding with both of the 2 core *** vitro cellular experiments showed that AⅥreduced nitric oxide,prostaglandin E_2,tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6),and IL-1βlevels(P<0.05)and inhibited cyclooxygenase-2,nitric oxide synthase,EGFR,MMP9,phosphorylated phosphoinositide 3-kinase(p-PI3K),and phosphorylated serine-threonine kinase(p-AKT)proteins(P<0.05).The results of in vivo studies showed that AⅥimproved RA score and foot swelling thickness and decreased TNF-α,IL-6,p-PI3K and p-AKT levels in RA rat
