Essential oil of <i>Thymus vulgaris</i>L. and <i>Rosmarinus officinalis</i>L.: Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, cytotoxicity and antioxidant properties and antibacterial activities against foodborne pathogens

The essential oil composition of Thymus vulgaris L. and Rosmarinus officinalis L. endemic to France were determined by GC and GC-MS. Oils were assessed for their cytotoxic, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. 31 and 37 different compounds were identified representing 99.64% and 99.38% of the thyme and rosemary oils respectively, where oxygenated monoterpenes constituted the main chemical class. Thymol (41.33%) and 1.8-cineole (24.10%) were identified as the main constituents of T. vulgaris L. and R. officinalis L., respectively. Essential oils (EOs) of selected plant species were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against the human lung adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line (A549). Cytotoxicity was measured using MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphynyltetra-zolium bromide] colorimetric assay. Dose-dependent studies revealed IC50 of 8.50 ± 0.01 μg/mL and 10.50 ± 0.01 μg/mL after 72 h on the A549 cells for R. officinalis L. and T. vulgaris L., respectively. Antioxidant activity was determined using a quantitative DPPH (1,1-diphenyl- 2-picryl hydrazyl) assay. Thymus and rosemary EOs exhibited effective radical scavenging capacity with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 437 ± 5.46 μg/mL and 189 ± 2.38 μg/mL respectively and therefore acts as a natural antioxidant agent. The antimicrobial activity of these species has also been studied against several foodborne pathogens and food isolated Salmonella spp. including S. enteritidis of significant importance. According to the results, T. vulgaris L. showed higher bactericidal effect than those from R. officinalis L. These results suggest that the essential oil from T. vulgaris L. and R. officinalis L. have potential to be used as a natural cytotoxic, antioxidant and antimicrobial agent in food processing.

Finding a basis of unification for the modeling of mechatronic systems is the search subject of several *** paper is a part of a general research designed to the application of topology as a new approach for the modeling of mechatronic ***,the modeling of a one stage spur gear transmission using a topological approach is *** approach is based on the concepts of topological collections and transformations and implemented using the MGS（modeling of general systems）*** topological collections are used to specify the interconnection laws of the one stage spur gear transmission and the transformations are used to specify the local behavior laws of its different *** order to validate this approach,simulation results are presented and compared with those obtained with MODELICA language using Dymola *** good results are achieved,this approach might be used as a basis of unification for the modeling of mechatronic systems.

The migratory locust Locusta migratoria(Orthoptera,Acrididae)is one of the most important pests due to its extensive and severe damage to crops in large parts of Africa and *** and ecologically natural products such as bota nical insecticides are emergi ng can didates for replaceme nt of usually applied chemical *** crude methanolic extract of Pergularia tomentosa(PME)was investigated for their toxicity and physiological aspects on *** *** showed that treatment of newly emerged fourth and fifth instar nymphs resulted in significant mortality and significant repellent activity with an LC50 value of 0.18 and 0.38%,respectively,after seven days of *** PME toxicity was also dem on strated by histopathological cha nges in the alime ntary canal resulting in con siderable disorganization and severe damage of the caeca and proventriculus *** extract induced cellular immune reactions which manifested by a significant decrease in the number of the differential haemocyte counts(prohemocytes and plasmatocytes)and important cell *** of biochemical analyses showed that the PME reduced the activity of acetylcholinesterase and induced the glutathione *** neurotoxic effect was confirmed by the histological alterations in the brain structure,particularly in the neurosecretory cells showing typical signs of cell necrosis.

Background: Scoliosis is among interventions with high postoperative complication rates due to the characteristics of the surgery, where blood loss, transfusion and fluid requirements can be increased. A monocentric retrospective observational study was undertaken earlier to determine predictors of intraoperative and postoperative outcomes in surgical patients. In this initial cohort, there were patients who underwent scoliosis surgery, and a secondary analysis to describe outcomes in these patients was realized and presented here. The polycrystalline NaMgPO_(4)ceramic,synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state reaction route,has been characterized by using different experimental *** X-ray powder diffraction confirmed the phase formation of the synthesized com-pound in the orthorhombic *** assumed an olivine-type structure made up of corners linked between tetrahedral PO_(4)and octahedral NaO_(6)and MgO_(6)*** and Raman spectroscopies confirmed the presence of PO_(4)^(3−)*** structure and chemical bonding between MgO_(6)octahedral and PO_(4)3−tetrahedral groups investigated by diffusion Raman is the feature in the phase transition at T=693 *** temperature dependences of the realε′and imaginaryε″parts of dielectric permittivity show a distribution of relaxation *** Nyquist plots,the presence of grain and grain boundary effect in the material is *** impedance spectroscopy measurement showed a non-Debye-type *** the impedance data,the determined grain resistance reduces with increment of temperature showing negative temperature coefficient of resistance(NTCR)-type nature of the material which also confirmed from conductivity *** temperature dependence ofσdc reveals an Arrhenius-type behavior with two activation energies,0.98 eV in region I and 0.67 eV in region *** sample’s conduction is assured by Na+ions’hopping in tunnels and its mechanism was discussed.
