Machine learning for carbonate formation drilling: Mud loss prediction using seismic attributes and mud loss records

Due to the complexity and variability of carbonate formation leakage zones, lost circulation prediction and control is one of the major challenges of carbonate drilling. It raises well-control risks and production expenses. This research utilizes the H oilfield as an example, employs seismic features to analyze mud loss prediction, and produces a complete set of pre-drilling mud loss prediction solutions. Firstly, 16seismic attributes are calculated based on the post-stack seismic data, and the mud loss rate per unit footage is specified. The sample set is constructed by extracting each attribute from the seismic trace surrounding 15 typical wells, with a ratio of 8:2 between the training set and the test set. With the calibration results for mud loss rate per unit footage, the nonlinear mapping relationship between seismic attributes and mud loss rate per unit size is established using the mixed density network ***, the influence of the number of sub-Gausses and the uncertainty coefficient on the model's prediction is evaluated. Finally, the model is used in conjunction with downhole drilling conditions to assess the risk of mud loss in various layers and along the wellbore trajectory. The study demonstrates that the mean relative errors of the model for training data and test data are 6.9% and 7.5%, respectively, and that R2is 90% and 88%, respectively, for training data and test data. The accuracy and efficacy of mud loss prediction may be greatly enhanced by combining 16 seismic attributes with the mud loss rate per unit footage and applying machine learning methods. The mud loss prediction model based on the MDN model can not only predict the mud loss rate but also objectively evaluate the prediction based on the quality of the data and the model.

Rice roots avoid asymmetric heavy metal and salinity stress via an RBOH-ROS-auxin signaling cascade

Root developmental plasticity is crucial for plants to adapt to a changing soil environment,where nutrients and abiotic stress factors are distributed *** plant roots sense and avoid heterogeneous abiotic stress in soil remains ***,we show that,in response to asymmetric stress of heavy metals(cadmium,copper,or lead)and salt,rice roots rapidly proliferate lateral roots(LRs)in the stress-free area,thereby remodeling root architecture to avoid localized *** and quantitative analyses of reactive oxygen species(ROS)showed that asymmetric stress induces a ROS burst in the tips of the exposed roots and simultaneously triggers rapid systemic ROS signaling to the unexposed *** of a ROS scavenger to either the stressed or stress-free area abolished systemic ROS signaling and LR proliferation induced by asymmetric *** stress also enhanced cytosolic calcium(Ca^(2+))signaling;blocking Ca^(2+)signaling inhibited systemic ROS propagation and LR branching in the stress-free *** identified two plasma-membrane-localized respiratory burst oxidase homologs,OsRBOHA and OsRBOHI,as key players in systemic ROS signaling under asymmetric *** of OsRBOHA and OsRBOHI in roots was upregulated by Cd stress,and knockout of either gene reduced systemic ROS signaling and LR proliferation under asymmetric ***,we demonstrated that auxin signaling and cell wall remodeling act downstream of the systemic ROS signaling to promote LR ***,our study reveals an RBOH-ROS-auxin signaling cascade that enables rice roots to avoid localized stress of heavy metals and salt and provides new insight into root system plasticity in heterogenous soil.

Plants take up a wide range of trace metals/metalloids(hereinafter referred to as trace metals)from the soil,some of which are essential but become toxic at high concentrations(e.g.,Cu,Zn,Ni,Co),while others are non-essential and toxic even at relatively low concentrations(e.g.,As,Cd,Cr,Pb,and Hg).Soil contamination of trace metals is an increasing problem worldwide due to intensifying human *** metal contamination can cause toxicity and growth inhibition in plants,as well as accumulation in the edible parts to levels that threatens food safety and human *** the mechanisms of trace metal toxicity and how plants respond to trace metal stress is important for improving plant growth and food safety in contaminated *** accumulation of excess trace metals in plants can cause oxidative stress,genotoxicity,programmed cell death,and disturbance in multiple physiological *** have evolved various strategies to detoxify trace metals through cell-wall binding,complexation,vacuolar sequestration,efflux,and *** signal transduction pathways and regulatory responses are involved in plants challenged with trace metal *** this review,we discuss the recent progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in trace metal toxicity,detoxification,and regulation,as well as strategies to enhance plant resistance to trace metal stresses and reduce toxic metal accumulation in food crops.

The synthesis of a perpendicular growth structure of MoS_(2)nanosheets on graphene for efficient sodium storage is challenging yet ideal due to the benefits of open ion diffusion channels and high electronic *** this study,we have successfully fabricated a novel structure of vertical MoS_(2)nanosheets on graphene,with ZnS nanoparticles serving as bonding points(MoS_(2)/ZnS/G),through a facile hydrothermal *** the synthesis process,Zn^(2+)not only acts as a landing site for the vertical growth of MoS_(2)nanosheets but also triggers the formation of a defect-rich structure in the final *** unique architecture of MoS_(2)/ZnS/G effectively combines the advantages of a vertically aligned geometry and a defectrich structure for energy *** resulting structure displays shortened transport paths for electrons/ions,enhanced conductivity,improved structural integrity,and an increased number of active sites for promising electrochemical *** expected,when used as anode for sodium-ion batteries,the as-synthesize d MoS_(2)/ZnS/G exhibits excellent rate capability(high capacity of 298 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1))and good cycling stability(a capacity decay of 0.056%per cycle after 500 cycles at 1 A·g^(-1)).According to the kinetic investigations,the electrochemical process of the MoS_(2)/ZnS/G sample is primarily governe d by a pseudocapacitive behavior,which enhances the charge/discharge kinetics and allows the MoS_(2)/ZnS/G structure to remain intact during cycling.

Nonlinear Filtering With Sample-Based Approximation Under Constrained Communication:Progress, Insights and Trends

The nonlinear filtering problem has enduringly been an active research topic in both academia and industry due to its ever-growing theoretical importance and practical *** main objective of nonlinear filtering is to infer the states of a nonlinear dynamical system of interest based on the available noisy measurements. In recent years, the advance of network communication technology has not only popularized the networked systems with apparent advantages in terms of installation,cost and maintenance, but also brought about a series of challenges to the design of nonlinear filtering algorithms, among which the communication constraint has been recognized as a dominating concern. In this context, a great number of investigations have been launched towards the networked nonlinear filtering problem with communication constraints, and many samplebased nonlinear filters have been developed to deal with the highly nonlinear and/or non-Gaussian scenarios. The aim of this paper is to provide a timely survey about the recent advances on the sample-based networked nonlinear filtering problem from the perspective of communication constraints. More specifically, we first review three important families of sample-based filtering methods known as the unscented Kalman filter, particle filter,and maximum correntropy filter. Then, the latest developments are surveyed with stress on the topics regarding incomplete/imperfect information, limited resources and cyber ***, several challenges and open problems are highlighted to shed some lights on the possible trends of future research in this realm.

The medium-temperature dependence of jet transport coefficient in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions

The medium-temperature T dependence of the jet transport coefficient̂q was studied via the nuclear modification factor RAA(pT)and elliptical flow parameter v_(2)(pT)for large transverse momentum pT hadrons in high-energy nucleus-nucleus *** a next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD parton model for hard scatterings with modified fragmentation functions due to jet quenching controlled bŷq,we check the suppression and azimuthal anisotropy for large pT hadrons,and extract̂q by global fits to RAA(pT)and v_(2)(pT)data in A+A collisions at RHIC and LHC,*** numerical results from the best fits show that̂q∕T^(3) goes down with local medium-temperature T in the parton jet *** with the case of a constant̂q∕T^(3),the going-down T dependence of̂q∕T^(3) makes a hard parton jet to lose more energy near Tc and therefore strengthens the azimuthal anisotropy for large pT *** a result,v_(2)(pT)for large pT hadrons was enhanced by approximately 10%to better fit the data at RHIC/*** the first-order phase transition from QGP to the hadron phase and the additional energy loss in the hadron phase,v_(2)(pT)is again enhanced by 5-10%at RHIC/LHC.

Some nonlinear parameters of PP intervals of pulse main peaks

The PP intervals of pulse main peaks from healthy and unhealthy people(arrhythmia) have different nonlinear char-acteristics. In this paper,the extraction of PP intervals of pulse main peaks is achieved by picking up P peaks of pulse wave with wavelet transform. Furthermore,several nonlinear parameters(correlative dimensions,maximum Lyapunov exponents,com-plexity and approximate entropy) of the PP intervals of pulse main peaks extracted from normal and unhealthy pulse signals are calculated,with the results showing that these nonlinear parameters calculated from the main wave interval signals are helpful for analyzing human's health state and diagnosing heart diseases.

Learning topological defects formation with neural networks in a quantum phase transition

Neural networks possess formidable representational power,rendering them invaluable in solving complex quantum many-body *** they excel at analyzing static solutions,nonequilibrium processes,including critical dynamics during a quantum phase transition,pose a greater challenge for neural *** address this,we utilize neural networks and machine learning algorithms to investigate time evolutions,universal statistics,and correlations of topological defects in a one-dimensional transverse-field quantum Ising ***,our analysis involves computing the energy of the system during a quantum phase transition following a linear quench of the transverse magnetic field *** excitation energies satisfy a power-law relation to the quench rate,indicating a proportional relationship between the excitation energy and the kink ***,we establish a universal power-law relationship between the first three cumulants of the kink numbers and the quench rate,indicating a binomial distribution of the ***,the normalized kink-kink correlations are also investigated and it is found that the numerical values are consistent with the analytic formula.

A Comparative Study on the Post-Buckling Behavior of Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipes(RTPs)Under External Pressure Considering Progressive Failure

The collapse pressure is a key parameter when RTPs are applied in harsh deep-water *** investigate the collapse of RTPs,numerical simulations and hydrostatic pressure tests are *** the numerical simulations,the eigenvalue analysis and Riks analysis are combined,in which the Hashin failure criterion and fracture energy stiffness degradation model are used to simulate the progressive failure of composites,and the“infinite”boundary conditions are applied to eliminate the boundary *** for the hydrostatic pressure tests,RTP specimens were placed in a hydrostatic chamber after filled with *** has been observed that the cross-section of the middle part collapses when it reaches the maximum *** collapse pressure obtained from the numerical simulations agrees well with that in the ***,the applicability of NASA SP-8007 formula on the collapse pressure prediction was also *** has a relatively greater difference because of the ignorance of the progressive failure of *** the parametric study,it is found that RTPs have much higher first-ply-failure pressure when the winding angles are between 50°and 70°.Besides,the effect of debonding and initial ovality,and the contribution of the liner and coating are also discussed.
