A fully automated framework for helicopter rotor blades design and analysis including aerodynamics,structure, and manufacturing

this study describes an integrated framework in which basic aerospace engineering aspects(performance, aerodynamics, and structure) and practical aspects(configuration visualization and manufacturing) are coupled and considered in one fully automated design optimization of rotor blades. A number of codes are developed to robustly perform estimation of helicopter configuration from sizing, performance analysis, trim analysis, to rotor blades configuration representation. These codes are then integrated with a two-dimensional airfoil analysis tool to fully design rotor blades configuration including rotor planform and airfoil shape for optimal aerodynamics in both hover and forward flights. A modular structure design methodology is developed for realistic composite rotor blades with a sophisticated cross-sectional geometry. A D-spar cross-sectional structure is chosen as a baseline. The framework is able to analyze all realistic inner configurations including thicknesses of D-spar, skin, web, number and ply angles of layers of each composite part,and materials. A number of codes and commercial software(ANSYS, Gridgen, VABS, Pre VABS,etc.) are implemented to automate the structural analysis from aerodynamic data processing to sectional properties and stress analysis. An integrated model for manufacturing cost estimation ofcomposite rotor blades developed at the Aerodynamic Analysis and Design Laboratory(AADL),Aerospace Information Engineering Department, Konkuk University is integrated into the framework to provide a rapid and dynamic feedback to configuration design. The integration of three modules has constructed a framework where the size of a helicopter, aerodynamic performance analysis, structure analysis, and manufacturing cost estimation could be quickly investigated. All aspects of a rotor blade including planform, airfoil shape, and inner structure are considered in a multidisciplinary design optimization without an exception of critical configuration.

Optimum Determination of Partial Transmission Ratios of Coupled Planetary Gearboxes

this paper presents a new study on optimum determination of the partial ratios of coupled planetary gear sets for getting minimum radial size of the gear sets. In this paper, based on moment equilibrium condition of a mechanic system including two-row planetary gear sets and their regular resistance conditions, an explicit model for calculating the partial ratios of coupled planetary gear sets was proposed. In addition, by giving this effective model, the partial ratios can be calculated simply and accurately.

The paper introduces a novel approach for detecting structural damage in full-scale structures using surrogate models generated from incomplete modal data and deep neural networks(DNNs).A significant challenge in this field is the limited availability of measurement data for full-scale structures,which is addressed in this paper by generating data sets using a reduced finite element(FE)model constructed by SAP2000 software and the MATLAB programming *** surrogate models are trained using response data obtained from the monitored structure through a limited number of measurement *** proposed approach involves training a single surrogate model that can quickly predict the location and severity of damage for all potential *** achieve the most generalized surrogate model,the study explores different types of layers and hyperparameters of the training algorithm and employs state-of-the-art techniques to avoid overfitting and to accelerate the training *** approach’s effectiveness,efficiency,and applicability are demonstrated by two numerical *** study also verifies the robustness of the proposed approach on data sets with sparse and noisy measured ***,the proposed approach is a promising alternative to traditional approaches that rely on FE model updating and optimization algorithms,which can be computationally *** approach also shows potential for broader applications in structural damage detection.

On Huppert＇s Conjecture for Alternating Groups of Low Degrees

Bertram Huppert conjectured in the late 1990s that the nonabelian simple groups are determined up to an abelian direct factor by the set of their character degrees. Although the conjecture has been established for various simple groups of Lie type and simple sporadic groups, it is expected to be difficult for alternating groups. In [5], Hup- pert verified the conjecture for the simple alternating groups AN of degree up to 11. In this paper, we continue his work and verify the conjecture for the alternating groups of degrees 12 and 13.

Prolonged post-thaw culture of embryos does not improve outcomes of frozen human embryo transfer cycles: A prospective randomized study

Objective:To evaluate the impact of prolonged post-thaw embryos culture on pregnancy outcome during frozen embryo transfer ***:this prospective cohort study evaluated 324 thaw transfer cycles with 819 embryos from 269 patients at the Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility of Hue University Hospital in *** frozen embryo transfer cycles were divided into two groups at the time of thawing:the short culture group(2-hour post-thaw culture)and the overnight culture group(overnight culture for 18 h)before the embryo was transferred into the *** rates of embryo intact,grade A embryo at frozen and transfer time and continuing cleavage were *** clinical outcomes including serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin,clinical pregnancy and implantation rate were evaluated after 14 days,4 weeks,6 weeks,respectively,after embryo ***:Human chorionic gonadotropin positive occurred in 39.5%of patients in the short culture group compared to 25.9%in the overnight culture group with risk difference(RD)=13.6%,relative risk(RR)=1.343,95%confidence interval(CI)1.085-1.663,Phan in the overnight culture ***:The prolonged post-thaw culture period does not increase pregnancy outcome in comparison with the short culture.

Effect of Combinations of Sucrose and Cryoprotectants on the Survival of Catfish Embryos （Pangasidae hypophthamus）

Although cryopreservation of embryos has been used in most terrestrial animals, the application of this technique has not been succeeded for aquatic animals. In this study, the authors investigate the effect of different combinations of sucrose （SUC, C12H22OH） and cryoprotectants （CPAs） on the survival of the catfish embryos （Pangasidae hypophthalmus） at low temperatures （4, 0 and -20 ℃） for short-term storage. For this aim, embryos with somites and optic cups were exposed to different combinations of sucrose with methanol （SUC ＋ MeOH）, 1.2-propylene glycol （SUC ＋ PROH） and ethylene glycol （SUC ＋ EG） at four concentrations ratios：（1） 0.5 M SUC ＋ 0.5 M CPA; （2） 1 M SUC ＋ 0.5 M CPA; （3） 0.5 M SUC ＋ 1 M CPA; （4） 1 M SUC ＋ 1 M CPA for 40 min at 4, 0 and -20 ℃. Embryos kept in water at room temperature （RT）, 4, 0 and -20℃ were used as controls. The survival rate was expressed as a percentage of hatched embryos per total embryos treated. The results showed that the hatching rate declined significantly when embryos were stored in water at 0 ℃ and -20℃. For embryos at 0 ℃ storage, the highest survival rate （87.78%） was obtained with 1 M SUC ＋ 1 M MeOH combination while at -20 ℃, only embryos in the combined treatments of 0.5 M SUC ＋ 1 MEG and 0.5 M SUC ＋ 1 M PROH reached the hatching stage （40% and 83.33%, respectively）. In conclusion, the results showed that the catfish embryos are sensitive to sub-zero temperatures and the combined treatment of 0.5 M sucrose and 1 M propylene glycol can be used to protect catfish embryos from damages caused by low temperature （0 ℃ and -20 ℃）.

Assessment of the Irrigation Capacity during the Dry Season Using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information (Case Study in the Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam)

Today satellite system provides a main instrument supplying regular data on land inventory and monitoring of land use/land cover changes, in a timely manner. These data are keys to many applications in different sectors: environment, forestry, hydrology, irrigation, agriculture, geology, resource management and planning. Using Landsat image and change detection, this paper presents a method to extract changes of agricultural land, as the basis for the assessment and development of irrigation systems, which enhance production and protect land resources. During the period 1996-2014, the agricultural land in Binh Thuan decreased from 43.5% (in 1996) to 40.1% (February, 2014) of the total land surface in the province. However, the land area under cultivation tends to decrease rapidly, from 25.7% in 1996 to 14.0% in 2014. Combining the results of land use change and assessing the capacity of the irrigation systems show which areas are frequently irrigated versus those are not. this allows proposing irrigation development needs contributing to more production while protecting land resources.

Inter-harmonics in multi-terminal VSC-based HVDC systems

Multi-terminal voltage sourced converter(VSC)-based high voltage direct current (HVDC) system composes of a number of VSCs connected to an HVDC grid (or dc grid).The dc grid is often configured by cable interconnections between converter stations,thus imposing resonance issues affecting harmonic interaction in the *** on the harmonic transfer characteristics of VSC and HVDC systems,the appearance and the interaction of inter-harmonics in the multi-terminal VSC-based HVDC system are *** models are built and implemented using SimPowerSystems in *** simulation results show that,a series of inter-harmonics are produced and tend to be dominant in low-frequency *** in the dc grid,the inter-harmonic transfer can be magnified due to inter-harmonic *** complex resonance issues in the dc grid are investigated in combination with interaction through the VSC,it is beneficial to harmonic filter designs as well as other harmonic mitigation methods.
