Sulfidated nano zero-valent iron particles were immobilized on ZSM-5 zeolite(Z/S-nZⅥ)and used for hexavalent chromium(Cr(Ⅵ))remediation.The performance of Z/S-nZⅥimproved with the increase in Cr(Ⅵ)concentration(han 60 mg/L.The adsorption behavior for Cr(Ⅵ)was different from that reported in previous studies.The improved performance can be tailored for increasing efficiency of nano zero-valent iron(nZⅥ)corrosion,while the degree of corrosion of nZⅥwas affected by the concentration of the pollutant as discussed by kinetics,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer(XPS)analyses.The experiments for the dissolution of ferrous ions and the dosage of adsorbent demonstrated that the critical layer in the liquid-solid system changed with the increase in the concentration of Cr(Ⅵ)(Cr(Ⅵ):Z/S-nZⅥ>0.6).Moreover,the removal mechanisms of Cr(Ⅵ)were elucidated through XRD,transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and XPS techniques.This results demonstrate that the species of chromium in the critical layer changed from Cr(Ⅲ)to Cr(Ⅵ)as the concentration of chromium increased from low to high.Furthermore,the critical layer was composed of Cr(Ⅵ),Fe(Ⅱ),O and H elements.Additionally,the experiments of coexisting ions and aging time confirmed that Z/S-nZⅥpossessed high selectivity and stability to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness in practical applications.

Autoimmune diseases(AID)encompass a diverse array of conditions characterized by immune system dysregulation,resulting in aberrant responses of B cells and T cells against the body’s own healthy tissues.Plant extracellular vesicles(PEVs)are nanoscale particles enclosed by phospholipid bilayers,secreted by plant cells,which facilitate intercellular communication by transporting various bioactive molecules.Due to their nanoscale structure,safety,abundant sources,low immunogenicity,high yield,biocompatibility,and effective targeting of the colon and liver,PEVs are regarded as a promising platform for the treatment of AID.This review provides a comprehensive summary of PEV biogenesis,physicochemical and biological properties,internalization mechanisms,isolation methods,and their applications in various diseases,with a specific focus on their potential roles in AID.Additionally,we propose engineering approaches and administration methods for PEVs.Finally,we present an overview of the advantages and challenges associated with utilizing PEVs for the treatment of AID.By gaining a comprehensive understanding of PEVs,we anticipate the development of innovative therapeutic strategies for AID.Natural and engineered PEVs hold substantial promise as a valuable resource for innovative technologies in AID treatment.

Cu-bearing stainless steel is widely used in the fields of food,medical and household sanitary equipment because of its surface finish and corrosion resistance.However,the growth of bacteria on stainless steel leads to the formation of biofilms,which causes corrosion.Therefore,the antibacterial property of stainless steel is a worthy research topic.Reviews of breakthroughs in the field of corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties are still lacking.Herein,due to the scarcity of publications on the antibacterial mechanisms and processing methods of antibacterial Cu-bearing stainless steel,we review the current state of relevant research and progress.The toxicity of Cu,corrosion resistance mechanism of stainless steel,and antibacterial mechanism and preparation method of antibacterial stainless steel are reported.In addition,alloying,surface modification and other methods are found to have limitations in balancing the toxicity and antibacterial properties of copper and the relationship between the antibacterial properties and corrosion resistance of Cu-bearing stainless steel.A new preparation method of antibacterial stainless steel associated with selective laser melting(SLM)is proposed.SLM is becoming a powerful additive manufacturing technology that can be used to manufacture customized and complex metals.The research status of SLM applied in antibacterial stainless steel preparation is described.Finally,the future research direction of Cu-bearing antibacterial stainless steel is discussed.

Hundreds of vaccines have been developed worldwide for Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),the cause of Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),since the beginning of the pandemic.These vaccines have saved innumerable lives and contributed to partial control of the COVID-19 pandemic.Most of the vaccines approved for clinical use exhibit satisfactory initial protection rates against corresponding strains.However,vaccine protection declines over time,with almost all vaccines falling below 50%protection after 6 months[1].In the case of natural infections,protection lasts longer,but the incidence of reinfection is also quite high.

Transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)are a promising class of layered materials in the post-graphene era,with extensive research attention due to their diverse alternative elements and fascinating semiconductor behavior.Binary MX2 layers with different metal and/or chalcogen elements have similar structural parameters but varied optoelectronic properties,providing opportunities for atomically substitutional engineering via partial alteration of metal or/and chalcogenide atoms to produce ternary or quaternary TMDs.The resulting multinary TMD layers still maintain structural integrity and homogeneity while achieving tunable(opto)electronic properties across a full range of composition with arbitrary ratios of introduced metal or chalcogen to original counterparts(0–100%).Atomic substitution in TMD layers offers new adjustable degrees of freedom for tailoring crystal phase,band alignment/structure,carrier density,and surface reactive activity,enabling novel and promising applications.This review comprehensively elaborates on atomically substitutional engineering in TMD layers,including theoretical foundations,synthetic strategies,tailored properties,and superior applications.The emerging type of ternary TMDs,Janus TMDs,is presented specifically to highlight their typical compounds,fabrication methods,and potential applications.Finally,opportunities and challenges for further development of multinary TMDs are envisioned to expedite the evolution of this pivotal field.

Developing stable electrodes for seawater splitting remains a great challenge due to the detachment of catalysts at a large operating current and severe anode corrosion caused by chlorine.Herein,divalent anion intercalation and etching-hydrolysis strategies are deployed to synthesize the ultra-stable anode,dendritic Fe(OH)_(3) grown on Ni(SO_4)_(0.3)(OH)_(1.4)–Ni(OH)_(2).Experimental results reveal that the anode exhibits good activity and excellent stability in alkaline simulated seawater.After 500 h,the current density operated at 1.72 V remains 99.5%,about 210 m A cm^(-2).The outstanding stability originates from the etchinghydrolysis strategy,which strengthens the interaction between the catalyst and the carrier and retards thus the detachment of catalysts at a large current density.Besides,theoretical simulations confirm that the intercalated divalent anions,such as SO_4^(2-) and CO_(3)^(2-),can weaken the adsorption strength of chlorine on the surface of catalysts and hinder the coupling and hybridization between chlorine and nickel,which slows down the anode corrosion and improves catalytic stability.Furthermore,the twoelectrode system shows the remarkable 95.1% energy efficiency at 2,000 A m-2and outstanding stability in 6 mol L^(-1) KOH +seawater at 80 ℃.

Background To investigate the optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)characteristics of diabetic macular edema(DME)at different stages.Methods This study was a cross-sectional study.Patients diagnosed with DME were recruited.DME was classified into early,advanced,and severe DME.The vessel density(VD)in the superficial vascular plexus(SVP),deep vascular plexus(DVP)and foveal avascular zone(FAZ)parameters,including FAZ area,FAZ perimeter,acircularity index and foveal VD in a 300-μm-wide region around the FAZ(FD-300),were calculated by the AngioVue software.A multivariate generalized estimating equation was used to evaluate the associations between visual acuity and OCTA metrics.Results Ninety-two eyes from 74 patients with DME were included in this study.Compared to early(P=0.006)and advanced DME(P=0.003),the acircularity index was higher in severe DME.Both whole and parafoveal VD in the DVP decreased in eyes with severe DME compared to early DME(P=0.018,P=0.005,respectively)and advanced DME(P=0.035,P=0.012,respectively).In the multivariate generalized estimating equation,DME severity,FAZ area and foveal thickness were positively associated with worse visual acuity(P=0.001,P=0.007 and P=0.001,respectively).Conclusion Compared to early and advanced DME,severe DME showed increased irregularity in the FAZ and more extensive vessel damage in the DVP.Greater severity level of DME,larger FAZ area,and increased foveal thickness could be risk factors for poor visual acuity.Trial registration The protocol was published in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(ChiCTR2000033082).

Experimental and numerical study on ignition and combustion characteristics of boron-magnesium composite powders

A high-pressure laser ignition and combustion system with adjustable oxidizer gas atmosphere is established to investigate the ignition and combustion characteristics of boron-magnesium(BM)com-posite powders.An ignition and combustion model of BM powders is established and validated in the present study.The results show that increasing water content,O_(2) content and Mg content all result in shorter ignition delay time of BM powders,among which the effect of water content is the most obvious.However,ignition delay time increases as pressure increases.The combustion time decreases with increasing Mg content and ambient pressure but increases with water content.With the increase of O_(2) content,combustion time of BM powders first increases and then decreases,which means a critical O_(2) content exists above which combustion time decreases.The results show that there exists a trade-off between ignition and combustion performance of BM composite powders.
