Food odors alter behavioral responses and olfactory receptors expression in grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idellus)

Olfaction,the sense of smell,is crucial for animal survival,especially in localizing prey or ***,little is known about the fish behavioral responses to specific food odors and which olfactory receptor might be activated by the food ***,we examined the evolutionary relationships and classified the subfamilies of olfactory receptors(ORs),and conducted behavioral and gene expression analysis in grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idellus).We identified 196 intact ORs in the grass carp genome and classified them into 8 subfamilies:β,δ,ε,η,γ,κ,θ,andζ.12 representative ORs(4β,4δ,and 4ε)were highly expressed in the olfactory epithelium(OE)of 24-month-old grass *** exploration found that grass carp showed different behaviors to different food odors at a series of ***,0.01μmol/L amino acid mixtures and 0.005×Hydrilla verticillata extracts strongly changed the preference index and swimming trajectories in 6-month-old grass *** addition,the two food odors stimulation differentially induced ORs expression in three tissues,especially strong in the olfactory bulb and ***,our results suggest that olfaction plays an important role in the regulation of fish feeding behavior and provide a basis for further studies on the function and specific recognition of olfactory receptors in fish.

Distribution characteristics and removal rate of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in different treatment processes of two drinking water plants

Emerging pollutants,such as antibiotics and antibiotic-resistance genes,are becoming increasingly important sources of safety and health *** water safety,which is closely related to human health,should receive more attention than natural water body ***,minimal research has been performed on the efficacy of existing treatment processes in water treatment plants for the removal of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance *** address this research gap,this study detected and analyzed six main antibiotics and nine antibiotic resistance genes in the treatment processes of two drinking water plants in *** were collected over three months and then detected and analyzed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and fluorescence *** total concentrations of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in the influent water of the two water plants were characterized as December>March>*** precipitation and filtration processes of the Zou Maling Water Plant and Yu Shidun Water Plant successfully removed the *** ozone-activated carbon process increased the removal rate of most antibiotics to 100%.However,a large amount of antibiotic resistance gene residues remained in the effluents of the two water *** experiments demonstrated that the existing ozone-activated carbon processes could not effectively remove antibiotic resistance *** study provides a reference for the optimization of drinking water treatment processes for antibiotics and antibiotic resistance gene removal.

The complex air pollution driven by both Ozone(O_(3))and fine particulate matter(PM2.5)sig nificantly influences the air quality in the Sichuan Basin(SCB).Understanding the O_(3)for mation during autumn and winter is necessary to understand the atmospheric oxidative ***,continuous in-site field observations were carried out during the late summer,early autumn and winter of 2020 in a rural area of *** total volatile organic compounds(VOCs)concentration reported by a Proton-Transfer-Reaction Time-of Flight Mass Spectrometry(PTR-ToF-MS)were 13.66±9.75 ppb,5.50±2.64 ppb,and 9.41±5.11 ppb in late summer,early autumn and winter,*** anthropogenic VOCs(AVOCs)and biogenic VOCs(BVOCs)were 8.48±7.92 ppb and 5.18±2.99 ppb in late sum mer,3.31±1.89 ppb and 2.19±0.93 ppb in autumn,and 6.22±3.99 ppb and 3.20±1.27ppb in winter.A zero-dimensional atmospheric box model was employed to investigate the sensitivity of O_(3)-precursors by relative incremental reactivity(RIR).The RIR values of AV OCs,BVOCs,carbon monoxide(CO),and nitrogen oxides(NOx)were 0.31,0.71,0.09,and-0.36 for late summer,0.24,0.59,0.22,and-0.38 for early autumn,and 0.30,0.64,0.33 and-0.70 for winter,and the results showed that the O_(3)formation of sampling area was in the VOC-limited region,and O_(3)was most sensitive to BVOCs(with highest RIR values,>0.6)This study can be helpful in understanding O_(3)formation and interpreting the secondary formation of aerosols in the winter.

Influence of surface acidity and chemical valence on low temperature activity over Pt-HSiW/CeO_(2) for catalytic combustion of chlorobenzene

Pt-HSiW/CeO_(2) catalysts were prepared for chlorobenzene(CB) catalytic combustion by hydrothermal method at different calcination temperatures,and the effects of the surface acidity and chemical valence on the catalytic activity were *** results show that the catalyst calcined at 450℃(Cat-B)exhibits the outstanding catalytic performance,and the Cat-B catalyst possesses 90% conversion of CB at148℃.The excellent catalytic activity of Cat-B is attributed to more Ce^(3+)/(Ce^(3+)+Ce^(4+)),Pt~0/(Pt^(0)+Pt^(2+)),O_(ads)/(O_(latt)+O_(ads)) and Lewis acid *** degradation mechanism is proposed based on the analysis of the intermediates with the following reaction pathway:chlorobenzene→phenates/benzoquinone→acetate→maleate→CO_(2)+H_(2)O.

Flexible sensors with zero Poisson's ratio

Flexible sensors have been developed for the perception of various stimuli. However, complex deformation,usually resulting from forces or strains from multi-axes, can be challenging to measure due to the lack of independent perception of multiaxial stimuli. Herein, flexible sensors based on the metamaterial membrane with zero Poisson's ratio(ZPR) are proposed to achieve independent detection of biaxial stimuli. By deliberately designing the geometric dimensions and arrangement parameters of elements, the Poisson's ratio of an elastomer membrane can be modulated from negative to positive, and the ZPR membrane can maintain a constant transverse dimension under longitudinal stimuli. Due to the accurate monitoring of grasping force by ZPR sensors that are insensitive to curvatures of contact surfaces, rigid robotic manipulators can be guided to safely grasp deformable objects. Meanwhile, the ZPR sensor can also precisely distinguish different states of manipulators. When ZPR sensors are attached to a thermal-actuation soft robot, they can accurately detect the moving distance and direction. This work presents a new strategy for independent biaxial stimuli perception through the design of mechanical metamaterials, and may inspire the future development of advanced flexible sensors for healthcare, human–machine interfaces and robotic tactile sensing.

Role of heterogenous microstructure and deformation behavior in achieving superior strength-ductility synergy in zinc fabricated via laser powder bed fusion

Zinc(Zn)is considered a promising biodegradable metal for implant applications due to its appropriate degradability and favorable osteogenesis *** this work,laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)additive manufacturing was employed to fabricate pure Zn with a heterogeneous microstructure and exceptional strength-ductility *** optimized processing window of LPBF was established for printing Zn samples with relative densities greater than 99%using a laser power range of 80∼90 W and a scanning speed of 900 mm s−*** Zn sample printed with a power of 80 W at a speed of 900 mm s−1 exhibited a hierarchical heterogeneous microstructure consisting of millimeter-scale molten pool boundaries,micrometer-scale bimodal grains,and nanometer-scale pre-existing dislocations,due to rapid cooling rates and significant thermal gradients formed in the molten *** printed sample exhibited the highest ductility of∼12.1%among all reported LPBF-printed pure Zn to date with appreciable ultimate tensile strength(∼128.7 MPa).Such superior strength-ductility synergy can be attributed to the presence of multiple deformation mechanisms that are primarily governed by heterogeneous deformation-induced hardening resulting from the alternative arrangement of bimodal Zn grains with pre-existing ***,continuous strain hardening was facilitated through the interactions between deformation twins,grains and dislocations as strain accumulated,further contributing to the superior strength-ductility *** findings provide valuable insights into the deformation behavior and mechanisms underlying exceptional mechanical properties of LPBF-printed Zn and its alloys for implant applications.

Effect of deformation parameters on the austenite dynamic recrystallization behavior of a eutectoid pearlite rail steel

Understandings of the effect of hot deformation parameters close to the practical production line on grain refinement are crucial for enhancing both the strength and toughness of future rail *** this work,the austenite dynamic recrystallization(DRX)behaviors of a eutectoid pearlite rail steel were studied using a thermo-mechanical simulator with hot deformation parameters frequently employed in rail production *** single-pass hot deformation results reveal that the prior austenite grain sizes(PAgSs)for samples with different deformation reductions decrease initially with an increase in deformation ***,once the deformation temperature is beyond a certain threshold,the PAgSs start to *** can be attributed to the rise in DRX volume fraction and the increase of DRX grain with deformation temperature,***-pass hot deformation results show that the accumulated strain generated in the first and second deformation passes can increase the extent of *** the case of complete DRX,PAgS is predominantly determined by the deformation temperature of the final *** suggests a strategic approach during industrial production where part of the deformation reduction in low temperature range can be shifted to the medium temperature range to release rolling mill loads.

Cancer-educated neutrophils promote lung cancer progression via PARP-1-ALOX5-mediated MMP-9 expression
