Effect of Plant Fiber-Polyacrylamide Blend on Retention and Evaporation Water at Arid and Semi-Arid Soils of Algeria

Soil and water conservation is essential for sustaining food production and for preserving the environment in arid and semi arid lands （ASALs） where conditions for agriculture and other land use systems are often harsh and unpredictable. The ASALs of Algeria are an important source of a variety of non wood forest products like Stipa tenacissima L. plant （esparto grass）. This research was conducted to determine the effects of different low concentration （〈 I%） polyacrylaJnide, Stipa tenacissima L. fiber （esparto grass fibers） and its mixtures with the polymer at water retention in arid and semi arid soil. All samples are characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray Diffractometry, thermal analysis TG DSC and scanning electron micrographs （SEM）. The results showed that polymer blend in soil could improve better soil physical proprieties decreased evaporation and increase water retention in arid soils compared with application of any other blend at the same concentration. The use of Polyacrylamide-Cellulose blend appears to promise for reducing the labor cost of irrigation at arid and semi-arid soils, and offers safe and environmentally friendly inexpensive materials. The importance of Polyacrylamide-Cellulose blends to alleviate poor physical properties and retain water in these arid regions to sustain plant growth.

Uses of Blast Furnace Slag as Complex Fertilizer

Significant quantities of slag are generated as waste material or by-product every day from steel industries. They usually contain considerable quantities of valuable metals and materials. Transforming these solid wastes from one form to another to be reused either by the same production unit or by different industrial installation is very much essential not only for conserving metals and mineral resources but also for protecting the environment. The sustainable development concept requires a more efficient management of waste materials and preservation of environment. The paper presents the basic characteristics of slag, analyses and it＇s modification by incorporating some essential plant nutrients and the possibility of its application as fertilizer was studied.

Self-organized metal-semiconductor epitaxial graphene layer on off-axis 4H-SiC（0001）

The remarkable properties of graphene have shown promise for new perspectives in future electronics, notably for nanometer scale devices. Here we grow graphene epitaxially on an off-axis 4H-SiC（0001） substrate and demonstrate the formation of periodic arrangement of monolayer graphene on planar （0001） terraces and Bernal bilayer graphene on （1120） nanofacets of SiC. We investigate these lateral superlattices using Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy/ electrostatic force microscopy （AFM/EFM） and X-ray and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy （XPS/ARPES）. The correlation of EFM and ARPES reveals the appearance of permanent electronic band gaps in AB-stacked bilayer graphene on （1120） SiC nanofacets of 150 meV. This feature is confirmed by density functional theory （DFT） calculations. The charge transfer between the substrate and graphene bilayer results in an asymmetric charge distribution between the top and the bottom graphene layers opening an energy gap. This surface organization can be thus defined as self-organized metal-semiconductor graphene.

Thermoelectric Properties of ZnO-P₂O₅/(Ni) Composites

The overall purpose of the present study is basically to understand the manifestation of the thermo-electrical properties of the matrix ZnO-P2O5 first, and of the ZnO-P2O5 composites loaded with different volume fractions of nickel (Ni) as conductive fillers. In the matrix ZnO-P2O5, the values of electrical conductivity varied between 1.14 × 10-8 and 7.8 × 10-7 (S/cm), and the Seebeck coefficient value varied between minimal value 265 and maximal value 670 (μV/K) in the studied temperature. In composite ZnO-P2O5/Ni, it was shown that the Seebeck coefficient changed from high positive to negative values when the filler amount was increased, indicating a non-conducting to conducting phase transition. Such behavior exhibits that this transition is accompanied by the passing of carrier charge from p to n type. The study of thermoelectrically transport for high volume fraction of filler enabled the achievement, for the first time on this kind of composites, of an original transition called PTC transition. Thus, highest values of power factor (PF = S2 ≈ 2 × 10-3 W·m-1·K-2 at 407 K) were obtained, giving a possibility of industrial applications.

Medical Waste Management: A Case Study of the Souss-Massa-Drâa Region, Morocco

Medical waste management is of major concern due to the potentially high risks to both human health and the environment caused by inadequate waste management practices. In Morocco, as in many developing countries, little information is available regarding generation handling, and disposal of medical waste. The specific objective of this study was to analyse the medical waste management practices in the Souss-Massa-Draa region, Morocco. The study was carried out in seven of the twelve hospitals in the region, covering 66.2% of the bed capacity. A total of 219 healthcare personnel and their assistants were included: 35 doctors, 98 nurses, and 86 housekeepers. Site visits, interviews, and survey questionnaires were implemented to collect information regarding different medical waste management aspects, including medical waste generation, separation, collection, storage, transportation, and disposal. The results indicated that the medical waste generation rate ranged from 0.4 to 0.7 Kg/bed-day with a weighted average of 0.53 Kg/bed-day. The percentage of infectious and hazardous wastes in the total medical waste stream was about 30.5%. The remaining 69.5% was general wastes similar in properties to municipal wastes. Concerning waste separation, housekeepers demonstrate a slightly higher knowledge about waste separation, with 49.4% of correct answers, with nurses at 45.7%, and doctors the lowest value at 38.6%. The results about other management aspects indicated that practices in most surveyed hospitals did not comply with the principles stated in Moroccan legislation. Based on the findings, some measures are suggested to improve the present conditions and ensure that potential health and environmental risks of medical waste are minimized.

Study of the Effect of Gas Nitriding Time on Microstructure and Wear Resistance of 42CrMo4 Steel

Prior studies have noted that gas nitriding has a considerable effect for wear resistance. The aim of this paper is to study the influence of gas nitriding time (12, 24, 36 and 48 h) in the wear behaviour of 42CrMo4 steel. It has been assessed by micro hardness, pin-on-disc tribosystem, and SEM through the nitrided layer for each nitriding time. The study relates to the performance of the compound layer and the diffusion layer with respect to adhesive wear. The results were analyzed in terms of the weight lost during wear, for nitrided steel with and without the compound layer, and for untreated steel. It has been observed that wear rate varies as a function of the tests conditions due to the presence of different wear mechanisms. Thus, for short tests conditions wear rate depends on two mechanisms: plastic deformation and adhesive wear, whereas for large tests conditions the mechanisms controlling wear rate are abrasive and oxidative wear. Furthermore, this study contains an analysis of the wear mechanisms of a nitrided part, founded on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of the wear traces at various stages of the evolution of wear. The SEM examination of worn surfaces revealed signatures for the adhesion, abrasion, delamination and tribochemical (oxidative) modes of wear. This is an important issue for future research.

SIMULATION OF NONPROPORTIONAL CYCLICEXPERIMENTS OF IN738LC AT 850℃

In the previous paper, in order to express steadystate ratchetting, the present s extended the cyclic plasticity model proposed by Ohno and Wang (1993), and the validity of the extended model was discussed on the basis of uniaxial ratchetting experiments of 316FR steel at room temperature. In the present paper, the validity of the extended model is discussed further on the basis of nonproportional experiments of IN738LC at 850 such as multiaxial ratchetting, multiaxial cyclic stress relaxation, circular cyclic straining with strain hold, and so on. Predictions based on the OhnoWang model as well as the ArmstrongFrederick model are also given for the sake of comparison. It is shown that the extended model is capable of simulating the nonproportional experiments accurately, and especially that the extended model can predict much less steadystate ratchetting than the ArmstrongFrederick model. Severe Colchicine Poisoning: A Case Report

Background: Colchicine intoxication is uncommon but potentially life threatening because of the high toxicity of the drug. Colchicine binds to the intracellular protein tubulin, causing disturbed mitosis in all tissues followed by multi-organ failure. Case Presentation: We report a case of a 23-year-old woman admitted to emergency room 12 hours after a suicide attempt by ingestion of approximatively 40 mg of colchicine. Few hours after consumption, first symptoms were a hemodynamic shock and ARDS, leading to her death due to multi-organ failure. Conclusion: The colchicine intoxication has strong morbidity for doses higher than 0.5 mg/kg. The treatment is symptomatic. The immunotherapy using anti-colchicine allows improving critical form’s prognosis.

The economic performance of a process is generally managed in a hierarchical model-predictive control structure,wherein the low layer fulfills the dynamic tracking performance while the upper layer fulfills the economic ***,this architecture achieves steady-state optimization,but it may ignore the dynamic optimization of this *** contrast,the input and soft-state constraints are important to be satisfied whole the time with guaranteeing a feasible *** that perspective,economic model-predictive control is proposed to demonstrate the performance and the stability of T-S fuzzy systems with persistent *** on fuzzy modeling,online optimal feedback control is designed to guarantee the proposed controller’s stability and feasibility through a constrained-MPC problem in linear matrix inequalities *** proposed approach combines economic optimization and the dynamic tracking of the fuzzy control system into a single online framework.A nonlinear numerical example and the boiler-turbine application are utilized to demonstrate the proposed scheme’s effectiveness under system load variations and persistent disturbances.

Research on organic solar cells has a craze importance because they show very interesting properties including their flexibility and the opportunity to be made into large surfaces. However, their stability and performance should be significantly improved compared to their current state. A nominal output of around 10% will be the goal for the coming years. The use of organic materials for photovoltaic applications is the subject of intense research in recent years. This work is based in part on the development of new conjugated polymers. In this paper, we present the synthesis and characterization of poly [(thiophene-2,5-diyl)-co-(benzylidene)] PTB catalysed by Maghnite-H+, used in the active layer of the solar cell organic heterojunction with PCBM (derivative of C60) was used as a junction of the solar cell: Glas/ITO/BCP/C60/PTB/Au/Al. A current density of short circuit of about Jcc 0.1mA/cm2 was obtained for this structure with a yield of around 0.15%.
