Comparative elemental,mineral and microscopic investigation of sandstone matrix acidizing at HPHT conditions

Matrix acidizing is usually conducted on sandstone reservoirs to increase hydrocarbon *** plays an important role in designing acidizing treatments to enhance the production of oil and gas from sandstone *** most common acid in practice to acidize sandstone formation is mud acid after the pre-flush acid *** main aim of the pre-flush acid stage is to dissolve positive ions like calcium,potassium,sodium,etc,which can cause precipitation reactions during the mud acid *** research is aimed to investigate the reaction mechanism of a new pre-flush acid combination(hydrochloric acid and acetic acid)with sandstone *** flooding experiments were performed to react acid with the core samples(6 in×1.5 in)under high pressure and temperature(HPHT)condi-tions(80℃and 1000 psia).Analytical techniques such as Tescan Integrated Mineral Analysis(TIMA)have been used to illustrate the effect of these acids on sandstone *** analysis showed that the new acid combination was effective in dissolving various minerals(ankerite,magnetite)and cations(calcium,magnesium,sodium,and iron).15%HCl proved to be more effective in the dissolution of different particles from sandstone core *** dissolved 32.8%of the initial number of particles present inside the sample while the dissolving power of 5%CH_(3)COOH:10%HCl is 26.7%.Subsequently,the number of pores increased by the application of 15%HCl is 22%while that by 5%CH_(3)COOH:10%HCl is 21.8%.Density analysis showed that both acid combinations removed heavy particles effectively,whereas 5%CH_(3)COOH:10%HCl proved more efficient in dissolving calcium ions which is very important for pre-flush acidizing.

Degradation of chitosan for rice crops application

A variety of techniques including chemical and enzymatic hydrolysis, and radiation degradation processes can be used to prepare low molecular weight chitosan. Degradation of chitosan by radiation can be carried out in solid state and liquid state. Radiation degraded polysaccharides has been reported to exhibit growth-stimulating activity like phytohormones thatinduce the promotion in germination, shoot and root elongation in variety of plants. In this study, the chitosan was irradiated in solid state (powder form) by gamma rays within the dose range of 25?75 kGy. And the irradiated chitosan was then irradiated in solution form in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The effects of irradiation on the molecular weight and viscosity of the chitosan were investigated using Ubbelohde Capillary Viscometer. The molecular weight and viscosity of the chitosan decreased with increment of absorbed doses. In the presence of hydrogen peroxide, the molecular weight of chitosan could be further decreased. The effect of radiation degraded chitosan on the growth promotion of rice was investigated and it was shown during seedling period of 15 days for transplanting whereby the growth is 15%?20% faster than using chemicals growth promoters.

Next generation sequencing of Apis mellifera syriaca identifies genes for Varroa resistance and beneficial bee keeping traits

Apis mellifera syriaca exhibits a high degree of tolerance to pests and pathogens including varroa mites. This native honey bee subspecies of Jordan expresses behavioral adaptations to high temperature and dry seasons typical of the region. However, persistent honey bee imports of commercial breeder lines are endangering local honey bee population. This study reports the use of next-generation sequencing （NGS） technology to study the A. m. syriaca genome and to identify genetic factors possibly contributing toward mite resistance and other favorable traits. We obtained a total of 46.2 million raw reads by applying the NGS to sequence A. m. syriaca and used extensive bioinformatics approach to identify several candidate genes for Varroa mite resistance, behavioral and immune responses char- acteristic for these bees. As a part of characterizing the functional regulation of molecular genetic pathway, we have mapped the pathway genes potentially involved using information from Drosophila melanogaster and present possible functional changes implicated in responses to Varroa destructor mite infestation toward this. We performed in-depth functional annotation methods to identify -600 candidates that are relevant, genes involved in pathways such as microbial recognition and phagocytosis, peptidoglycan recognition protein family, Gram negative binding protein family, phagocytosis receptors, serpins, Toll signaling pathway, Imd pathway, Tnf, JAK-STAT and MAPK pathway, heamatopioesis and cellular response pathways, antiviral, RNAi pathway, stress factors, etc. were selected. Finally, we have cataloged function-specific polymorphisms between A. mellifera and A. m. syriaca that could give better understanding of varroa mite resistance mechanisms and assist in breeding. A Literature Review on Sustainability of Bio-Based and Biodegradable Plastics:Challenges and Opportunities

Numerical analysis of SiO_(2)-SDS surfactant effect on oil recovery in sandstone reservoirs

In vivo hypoglycemic investigation, antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic potentials of Pereskia bleo Kunth. in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Objective: To elucidate the in vivo hypoglycemic capability, antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic activities of Pereskia bleo(Kunth) leaves extracts and bioactive fraction. Methods: The various solvent extracts of Pereskia bleo were investigated for the hypoglycemic and antihyperglycemic activities using a relevant in vivo normal rat model and streptozotocininduced diabetic rat model with glibenclamide and metformin utilized as positive controls. The effects of the most potent extract and its bioactive fraction on the insulin level, lipid profile and body weight of the diabetic rats were also analyzed. Results: All the extracts showed no hypoglycemic effect while petroleum ether, chloroform and aqueous extracts demonstrated significant(P<0.05) reduction in blood sugar level in the intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test. Aqueous extract and aqueous fraction significantly(P<0.05) reduced the blood glucose level in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats as early as day 6 compared to the diabetic control as well as significantly restored the serum insulin of diabetic rats. Moreover, the aqueous extract and aqueous fraction disclosed a significant(P<0.05) reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein levels. An elevation in high-density lipoprotein as well as improved body weight loss of the diabetic rats were also observed. Conclusions: In summary, Pereskia bleo appears effective in the management of diabetes and correlated impairments arising from high blood sugar level. Further studies will possibly bring about the discovery of effective and secure plant derived antidiabetic drugs.

Insights into depolymerization pathways and mechanism of alkali lignin over a Ni_(1.2)-ZrO_(2)/WO_(3)/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)catalyst

This study performed catalytic depolymerization of alkali lignin over Ni-based *** of different promoters(Zr and W),Ni loadings,reaction temperatures,and the addition of formic acid and catalyst on lignin conversion and products distribution were all *** result showed that the highest oil yield(40.1%(mass))was obtained at 240℃over Ni_(1.2)/γ-Al_(2)O_(3) promoted by Zr and W *** analysis indicates that Zr and W species prefer to lignin depolymerization while Ni active phase prefer to hydrodeoxygenation and *** interconversion of products derived from lignin depolymerization was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometer,which demonstrated that phenolic compounds were dominant products in all lignin derived bio-oils,wherein the proportion of vanillin was highest(65.7%)at 180℃,while that of alkyl guaiacols increased with the increase of temperature(from 12.45%at 180℃ to 66.67%at 240℃).Residual lignin obtained after lignin depolymerization was also investigated for detecting differences on functional groups,wherein the disappearing peaks at 1511 cm^(-1)(stretching of aromatic rings),1267,1215 and 1035 cm^(-1)(vibrations of guaiacyl and syringyl units)were detected by Fourier transform infrared ***,the higher O/C ratio measured by elemental analysis also confirmed that alkali lignin was depolymerized effectively under mild conditions.
