Thermal performance of cooling strategies for asphalt pavement: A state-of-the-art review

Asphalt pavements absorb and store more heat than natural surfaces. Thus, high temperatures are emitted from conventional asphalt pavements, subsequently releasing heat into the atmosphere and contributing to the urban heat island(UHI) phenomenon. Several cool pavement strategies, including the provision of additives and materials, surface coating and layer design, have been introduced to reduce the impact of UHI. This article provides a detailed review of the thermal properties of these mitigation measures in the context of cool asphalt pavements. The literature can be divided into three segments. The first segment discusses the impact of pavements on UHI and heat transfer mechanisms in pavements. The second segment focuses on various thermo physical properties that play an important role in mitigation measures;these properties include albedo(a), emissivity(e),solar reflective index, thermal conductivity(k), specific heat capacity(Cp) and thermal diffusivity. The third segment discusses cool asphalt pavement strategies which specifically cover the ability of the pavement to absorb and reflect solar energy on the basis of the materials and treatments used. The literature reveals that cooling strategies that deal with the pavement surface are important due to its direct incident solar effect, which depends on surface colour, material, shape and roughness. By using high-albedo and high-emissivity surfaces, the pavement can store less heat and lower the surface temperature. These results can also be achieved by designing the materials and pavement layers with low thermal conductivity and high specific heat capacity to reduce thermal diffusivity and pavement temperature and thus combat the heat radiated by the asphalt pavement.

Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Organizational Commitment among Clinical Nurses in Bangladesh

Organizational citizenship behavior becomes one of the significant factors that enhance the organizational efficiency. Organizational citizenship behavior has been defined as behaviors that an employee voluntarily engages in organization that promote the effectiveness of clearly rewarded by the organization. However organizational commitment is very beneficial for the organization because it reduces the absenteeism rate and turnover ratio and enhances the organization productivity. In all of the organization, organizational commitment exerts a positive effect on the nurses’ performance. The aim was to assess the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and organizational commitment among nurses. The descriptive correlational design was used to explore the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and organizational commitment among nurses. Simple random sampling was used and sample size was 164. Data were collected by a self-structured questionnaire during November 2019 to December 2019 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21. The result showed that average age of the participants was 34.19 years old. There were statistically positive significant relationships between organizational citizenship behavior with organizational commitment (r = 0.82, p = 0.000), organizational citizenship behavior with working ward (F = 6.31, p = 0.000) and organizational commitment with working ward (F = 4.45, p = 0.002). Based on the results of this study, it is indicated that lack of OCB & OC among nurses’ is moderate level. The findings of this study will suggest reducing organizational hazard, and developing citizenship behavior and organizational commitment that enhance high outcome in health care organizations & quality of care. So hospital should provide in-service training for nurses’ and all departments are equally. Predictive study of factors related to OCB & OC is recommended for future study.

The Applicability of Hydrofoils as a Ship Control Device

Centrifugal forces are commonly created when ships turn, which may cause a ship to capsize in a critical situation. A mathematical model has been developed to optimize the stability coefficients for ship, with the aim to prevent capsizing and to increase ship maneuverability in high-speed water craft. This model can be used to develop algorithms for control system improvement. The mathematical model presented in this paper optimized the use of multipurpose hydrofoils to reduce heeling and the trimming moment, maintaining an upright ship’s position and lessening the resistance via transverse force. Conventionally, the trimming and heeling of a ship are controlled using ballast water;however, under variable sea conditions it is sometimes difficult to control a ship’s motion using ballast water. In this case, a hydrofoil would be more stable and maneuverable than a ballast tank controlled vessel. A movable hydrofoil could theoretically be adapted from moveable aerofoil technology. This study proves the merit of further investigation into this possibility.

Ankle Fractures, Short Term Operative Outcome: A Retrospective Case Series

Introduction and Background: Ankle injury is one of the most frequent presenting injuries to the emergency room and ankle fractures are common fracture in the lower limbs injuries that may require operative treatment with variable outcomes. Materials and Methods: Sixty-three patients were included in my retrospective study, and all with a displaced fracture of the ankle caused by high energy trauma were treated by open reduction and rigid internal fixation. Results: After follow-up at six weeks and twelve weeks, the results were satisfactory in fifty-five percent out of all the sixty-three patients. Conclusions and Recommendations: Ankle fractures occur mainly in young males of the age group between 26 and 35 years, mostly caused by fall down and motor vehicle accident.

The effect of fair disclosure regulation on timeliness and informativeness of earnings announcements

This paper examines the effect of Korea's fair disclosure regulation on the timeliness and informativeness of earnings announcements. The present regulation for Korean listed firms requires that if a company's sales revenue, operating income(or loss) and net income(or loss) have changed by over 30%compared to the prior year, the firm must disclose this information through a preliminary financial report(PFR) even before the company is audited by external auditors. To analyze the effects of this policy, we first investigate the timeliness of preliminary financial report disclosures. We examine the extent to which Korean listed companies actually comply with the requirement for prompt notification of information concerning material changes in financial performance. Second, we investigate the informativeness of preliminary financial reports by analyzing differential stock market reactions to different timings of preliminary financial report disclosures. Our empirical results reveal that more than half of our sample firms release their preliminary financialreports after external audits are completed, thereby potentially invalidating the effectiveness of the regulation. In addition, we find that preliminary financial reports have information value only if they are disclosed prior to annual audit report dates. This finding supports the notion that timeliness increases the informativeness of preliminary financial report disclosure by curbing insiders' ability to potentially profit from their information advantage.

We report the design of a nanophotonic metaloxide front contact aimed at perovskite solar cells(PSCs)to enhance optoelectronic properties and device stability in the presence of ultraviolet(UV)***-quality Cr-doped ZnO film was prepared by industrially feasible magnetron sputter deposition for the electron transport layer of *** a means,the influence of the Cr content on the film and device was systematically ***-depth device optics and electrical effects were studied using advanced three-dimensional opto-electrical multiphysics rigorous simulations,optimizing the front contact for realizing high *** numerical simulation was validated by fabricating PSCs optimized to reach high performance,energy conversion efficiency(ECE)=17.3%,open-circuit voltage(V_(OC))=1.08 V,short-circuit current density(J_(SC))=21.1 mA cm^(-2),and fillfactor(FF)=76%.Finally,a realistic front contact of nanophotonic architecture was proposed while improving broadband light absorption of the solar spectrum and light harvesting,resulting in enhanced quantum efficiency(QE).The nanophotonic PSC enables J_(SC)improvement by~17%while reducing the reflection by 12%,resulting in an estimated conversion efficiency over 23%.It is further demonstrated how the PSCs’UV-stability can be improved without considerably sacrificing optoelectronic *** of nanophotonic designed ZnO:Cr front contact,PSCs device,and fabrication process are described.

ATP gatekeeper of Plasmodium protein kinase may provide the opportunity to develop selective antimalarial drugs with multiple targets

Malaria is one of the most devastating infectious diseases that caused millions of clinical cases annually despite decades of prevention efforts. Recent cases of Plasmodium falciparum resistance against the only remaining class of effective antimalarial(artemisinin) in South East Asia may soon pose a significant threat. Hence, the identification of new antimalarial compounds with a novel mode of action is necessary to curb this problem. Protein kinase has been implicated as a valid target for drug development in diseases such as cancer and diabetes in humans. A similar approach is now recognized for the treatment of protozoan-related disease including malaria. Few Plasmodium protein kinases that are not only crucial for their survival but also have unique structural features have been identified as a potential target for drug development. In this review, studies on antimalarial drug development exploiting the size of Plasmodium protein kinase ATP gatekeeper over the past 15 years are mainly discussed. The ATP-binding site of Plasmodium protein kinases such as Pf CDPK1, Pf CDPK4, Pf PKG, Pf PK7, and Pf PI4K showed great potential for selective and multi-target inhibitions owing to their smaller or unique ATP-gatekeeper amino acid subunits compared to that of human protein kinase. Hence it is a feasible solution to identify a new class of active antimalarial agents with a novel mode of action and longer clinical life-span.

An Adaptive EMD Technique for Induction Motor Fault Detection

Reliable induction motor (IM) fault detection techniques are very useful in industries to diagnose IM defects and improve operational performance. An adaptive empirical mode decomposition (EMD) technology is proposed in this paper for rotor bar fault detection in IMs. As the characteristic fault frequency will change with operating conditions related to load and speed, the proposed adaptive EMD technique correlates fault features over different frequency bands and intrinsic mode function (IMF) sidebands. The adaptive EMD technique uses the first IMF to detect the fault type and the second IMF as an indicator to predict the fault severity. It can overcome the problems of the sensitivity of sideband frequencies related to the speed and load oscillations. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive EMD technique is verified by experimental tests under different motor conditions.
