Ship Roll Analysis Using CFD-Derived Roll Damping:Numerical and Experimental Study

This study investigates the roll decay of a fishing vessel by experiments and computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations.A fishing vessel roll decay is tested experimentally for different initial roll *** roll decay is also simulated numerically by CFD simulations and is validated against the experimental *** shows that the roll damping could be obtained by CFD with high level of *** linear and nonlinear damping terms are extracted from the CFD roll decay results and are used in a potential-based *** this way we are using a hybrid solver that benefits the accuracy of the CFD results in terms of roll damping estimation and the fast computations of the potential-based solver at the same *** hybrid method is used for reproducing the free roll decays at Fn=0 and also in analyzing some cases in *** experiments,CFD and the hybrid parts are described in *** is shown that the suggested method is capable of doing the simulations in a very short time with high level of *** strategy could be used for many seakeeping analyses.

Comparison between traction-countertraction and modified scapular manipulation for reduction of shoulder dislocation

Objective： One of the most common joint dislocations presented to the emergency department （ED） is anterior shoulder dislocation （ASD）. Various techniques for the treatment of this abnormality have been suggested. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and success rate of modified scapular manipulation （MSM） as a painless procedure compared to traction-countertraction （TCT） for reduction of ASD. Methods： Patients with ASD who were presented to ED of Baqiyatallah Hospital, Tehran during 2011 were included. They were randomly divided into MSM group or TCT group and then pain at reduction, time of reduction, duration of hospitalization, and success rate were compared. In TCT group, reduction was performed using sedative and antipain medications. Results： Ninety seven patients （81.6% male） with a mean age of 34.15 years±13.48 years were studied. The reduction time between both groups showed a significant difference （470.88 seconds±227.59 seconds for TCT group, 79.35 seconds±82.49 seconds for MSM group, P〈0.001）. The success rate in MSM group in the first and second effort were 89% and 97% whereas 73% and 100% in the TCT group respectively （P〈0.001）. Conclusion： It seems that the manipulation technique can be more successful than the TCT method at the first effort whilst the second effort has the opposite results. Also MSM can be safer, cheaper and more acceptable for patients than TCT as a standard traditional method.

The Role of Baseline Functional MRI as a Predictor of Post-Stroke Rehabilitation Efficacy in Patients with Moderate to Severe Upper Extremity Dysfunction

Introduction: Upper extremity impairment is one of the common complications following a stroke. There are numerous rehabilitation strategies to address this problem. However, patients with moderate to severe upper limb disabilities respond differently to the same rehabilitation protocol. Apart from each patient’s unique characteristics, there are specific brain reorganizing patterns that affect the post-rehabilitation response rate. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) determines brain activation area and connectivity patterns and has been utilized in the neurorehabilitation field. Material and Methods: Six stroke patients who suffered from moderate to severe upper extremity dysfunction were enrolled in this pilot study. Upper extremity function tests including the Fugl-Meyer assessment test for upper extremity (FMA-UE), and Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT) were utilized before and after completing an intensive rehabilitation. The intensive rehabilitation program was conducted one hour a day for five days per week for four weeks. Moreover, fMRI was applied before initiating rehabilitation. The regions of interest were those associated with movement, including Brodmann areas (BA) BA1-BA6. Results: Six stroke patients in the sub-acute to chronic phase and ages ranging between 33 - 75 years were enrolled. All patients showed an improvement in upper limb function after four weeks of rehabilitation. Patient number one (Pt1) had the most improvement in FMA-UE, while patient number four (Pt4) recovered the most measured by WMFT. Pt1 demonstrated increased activity in all contralesional regions, whereas Pt4 had only increased activity in ipsilesional areas. Furthermore, patients with greater activation in the ipsilesional BA6 (Pt1, Pt4, Pt5, and Pt6) had better responses to the rehabilitation therapy. Conclusion: Patients with greater activation in the baseline fMRI, particularly ipsilesional BA6, had a better response to the intensive rehabilitation therapy. However

Propose:In this study,we re-assessed the criteria defined by the radiological society of North America(RSNA)to determine novel radiological findings helping the physicians differentiating COVID-19 from pulmonary ***:All trauma patients with blunt chest wall trauma and subsequent pulmonary contusion,COVID-19-related signs and symptoms before the trauma were enrolled in this retrospective study from February to May *** patients(Group P)were then classified into two groups based on polymerase chain reaction tests(Group Pa for positive patients and Pb for negative ones).Moreover,44 patients from the prepandemic period(Group PP)were *** were matched to Group P regarding age,sex,and trauma-related *** radiologists blindly reviewed the CT images of all enrolled patients according to criteria defined by the RSNA *** radiological findings were compared between Group P and Group PP;statistically significant ones were re-evaluated between Group Pa and Group Pb ***,the sensitivity and specificity of each significant findings were *** Chi-square test was used to compare the radiologica丨findings between Group P and Group ***:In the Group PP,73.7%of all ground-glass opacities(GGOs)and 80%of all multiple bilateral GGOs were detected(p<0.001 and p=0.25,respectively).Single bilateral GGOs were only seen among the Group *** Chi-square tests showed that the prevalence of diffused GGOs,multiple unilateral GGOs,multiple consolidations,and multiple bilateral consolidations were significantly higher in the Group P(p=0.001,0.01,0.003,and 0.003,respectively).However,GGOs with irregular borders and single consolidations were more significant among the Group PP(p=0.01 and 0.003,respectively).Of note,reticular distortions and subpleural spares were exclusively detected in the Group ***:We concluded that the criteria set by RSNA for the diagnosis of COVID-19 are not appropriate in trauma ***
