Determination of Parameters Affecting the Estimation of Iceberg Draft

Recent offshore oil and gas loading facilities developed in the Arctic area have led to a considerable awareness of the iceberg draft approximation, where deep keel icebergs may gouge the ocean floor, and these submarine infrastructures would be damaged in the shallower waters. Developing reliable solutions to estimate the iceberg draft requires a profound understanding of the problem’s dominant parameters. As such, the dimensionless groups of the parameters affecting the iceberg draft estimation were determined for the first time in the present study. Using the dimensionless groups recognized and the linear regression(LR) analysis, nine LR models(i.e., LR 1 to LR 9) were developed and then validated using a comprehensive dataset, which has been constructed in this study. A sensitivity analysis distinguished the premium LR models and important dimensionless groups. The best LR model, as a function of all dimensionless parameters, was able to estimate the iceberg draft with the highest level of precision and correlation along with the lowest degree of complexity. The ratio of iceberg length to iceberg height as the “iceberg length ratio” and the ratio of iceberg width to iceberg height as the “iceberg width ratio” was detected as the important dimensionless groups in the estimation of the iceberg draft. An uncertainty analysis demonstrated that the best LR model was biased towards underestimating the iceberg drafts. The premium LR model outperformed the previous empirical ***, a set of LR-based relationships were derived for estimating the iceberg drafts for practical engineering applications, e.g., the early stages of the iceberg management projects.

The design,manufacture and experiment of a shaft power unit for converting a microturbojet engine to a micro-turboprop in the class of less than 20 kW with the aim of obtaining maximum shaft power were described in this *** this purpose,a Wren 100 micro-turbojet engine was used as the gas generator,and the specifications of its outflow were *** optimal configuration of the inter-stage diffuser,which was an annular S-type diffuser,was selected based on its small total pressure drop and outlet flow *** power turbine was a single stage axial turbine that was designed based on the fixed nozzle angle assumption without any taper or twist in its *** turbine rotor was a bladed disk(Blisk)in which its unique blade profiles were designed based on the Wilson ***,the shaft power unit was completed by designing and manufacturing an exhaust complex and ***,the micro-turboprop engine was tested with an overloading *** results show a significant increase in the extracted power,an acceptable efficiency of the power turbine,and a significant reduction in the Specific Fuel Consumption(SFC)compared to other engines that use similar gas generators.

Mining method selection is the first and the most critical problem in mine design and depends on some parameters such as geotechnical and geological features and economic and geographic factors. In this paper, the factors affecting mining method selection are determined. These factors include shape, thick- ness, depth, slope, RMR and RSS of the orebody, RMR and RSS of the hanging wall and footwall. Then, the priorities of these factors are calculated. In order to calculate the priorities of factors and select the best mining method for Qapiliq salt mine, Iran, based on these priorities, fuzzy analytical hierarchy process （AHP） technique is used. For this purpose, a questionnaire was prepared and was given to the associated experts. Finally, after a comparison carried out based on the effective factors, between the four mining methods including area mining, room and pillar, cut and fill and stope and pillar methods, the stope and nillar mining method was selected as the most suitable method to this mine.

We study the dynamic cavity method for dilute kinetic Ising models with synchronous update rules. For the parallel update rule we find for fully asymmetric models that the dynamic cavity equations reduce to a Markovian dynamics of the (time-dependent) marginal probabilities. For the random sequential update rule, also an instantiation of a synchronous update rule, we find on the other hand that the dynamic cavity equations do not reduce to a Markovian dynamics, unless an additional assumption of time factorization is introduced. For symmetric models we show that a fixed point of ordinary Belief propagation is also a fixed point of the dynamic cavity equations in the time factorized approximation. For clarity, the conclusions of the paper are formulated as three lemmas.
