Comparative Analysis of Dietary Fat Intake among Female University Students in Riyadh: A Cross-Sectional Assessment of Health Sciences versus Non-Health Sciences Disciplines

Background: In the global burden of non-communicable diseases, the top slot among them all is occupied by various cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which also claim primacy in mortality rates. Generally speaking, the pathophysiological pathway frequently involves either (or a combination of) elevated serum cholesterol levels, predominantly attributed to dietary patterns characterized by extremely high levels of saturated and trans-fat consumption. Day-to-day nutritional epidemiology among university students suggests that they represent a crucial demographic for the study of preventive interventions. Objective: This in-depth study and investigation were specifically aimed to quantitatively assess and compare prevailing patterns of dietary fat consumption between female students enrolled in health sciences and non-health sciences programs at major universities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was comprised of 434 Saudi female university students (age range: 18 - 25 years), utilizing a validated Block Dietary Fat Screener accompanied by anthropometric measurements and comprehensive demographic data collection. The sampling methodology consisted of a snowball technique that was spread across three major academic institutions in Riyadh. Results: Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between academic specialization and patterns of dietary fat consumption (p = 0.012). Paradoxically, students of health science exhibited a higher prevalence of very high fat intake (41.9%) compared with their non-health sciences counterparts (27.6%). Surprisingly, anthropometric stratification revealed that it was the underweight students who demonstrated very high levels of fat consumption. A notable socioeconomic gradient was observed, with students from households earning 15,000 - 20,000 SR monthly showing the highest prevalence of very high-fat consumption (47.1%), although this association did not achieve statistical significance (p = 0.104

A New Hybrid Feature Selection Method Using T-test and Fitness Function

Feature selection(FS)(or feature dimensional reduction,or feature optimization)is an essential process in pattern recognition and machine learning because of its enhanced classification speed and accuracy and reduced system *** reduces the number of features extracted in the feature extraction phase by reducing highly correlated features,retaining features with high information gain,and removing features with no weights in *** this work,an FS filter-type statistical method is designed and implemented,utilizing a t-test to decrease the convergence between feature subsets by calculating the quality of performance value(QoPV).The approach utilizes the well-designed fitness function to calculate the strength of recognition value(SoRV).The two values are used to rank all features according to the final weight(FW)calculated for each feature subset using a function that prioritizes feature subsets with high SoRV *** FW is assigned to each feature subset,and those with FWs less than a predefined threshold are removed from the feature subset *** are implemented on three datasets:Ryerson Audio-Visual Database of Emotional Speech and Song,Berlin,and Surrey Audio-Visual Expressed *** performance of the F-test and F-score FS methods are compared to those of the proposed *** are also conducted on a system before and after deploying the FS *** demonstrate the comparative efficiency of the proposed *** complexity of the system is calculated based on the time overhead required before and after *** show that the proposed method can reduce system complexity.

Structural optimization of ionomers is an effective strategy for achieving high-performance proton ex-change membranes(PEMs)under low relative humidity(RH)*** this study,sulfonimide group and trifluoromethanesulfonate acid(TFSA)ionic liquids were introduced to the perfluorosulfonic acid(PFSA)side chain,resulting in polymer membranes with varying chain lengths(i.e.,PFC_(2)-TF-SI,PFC_(4)-TF-SI,and PFC_(5)-TF-SI).This dual proton-conducting structure extended the length of the hydrophilic side chain and enhanced the hydrophobic-hydrophilic phase separation,aiding in the formation of proton transport ***,the proton conductivity of PFC_(5)-TF-SI and PFC_(2)-TF-SI membranes reached 7.1 and 10.6 mS/cm at 30%RH and 80℃,respectively,which were approximately 29.1%and 92.7%higher than that of the pristine PFC_(5)-SA membrane(5.5 mS/cm).Furthermore,the maximum power density of the PFC_(5)-TF-SI and PFC_(2)-TF-SI membranes from the built single fuel cell achieved 649 and 763 mW/cm^(2) at 30%RH and 80℃,respectively,which were higher than that of the pristine PFC_(5)-SA membrane(567 mW/cm^(2))by about 14.5%and 34.6%,***,this study provides a strategy for PEM design under low RH conditions.

Chlorine as an integrated approach for environmental health and hygiene:A case study on evaluation of the performance of waste stabilization ponds located at 11 governorates in Egypt

The current study summarizes the current status of wastewater stabilization ponds(WSPs)treatment plants that have already been built in 11 governorates throughout ***,this study aims to determine the most appropriate chlorine dose for waste stabilization ponds(WSPs)effluents to ensure the treated effluents are suitable for reuse in unrestricted irrigation and to comply with the current legislation on direct discharge onto water *** to the findings,the chlorine doses used as a disinfectant in the treated effluents of the majority of WSP treatment plants ranged from 3 to 13 mg/***,two of the WSPs treatment plants effluents,the Qus WSPs treatment plant in Qena governorate and the Al Zarabii WSPs treatment plant in Asyut governorate used high chlorine doses reached to 17 and 19 mg/L,*** is due to the fact that both the Qus and Al Zarabii WSPs treatment plants have a high organic load,which necessitated the use of more chlorine to achieve the optimum chlorine dose at 13 mg/L for Qus and 11mg/L for Al *** findings demonstrated that chlorine has a powerful effect in completely removing ***,in most chlorine-treated wastewater final effluents,as the chlorine doses increased,the chlorophyll-a reading *** amount of trihalomethanes(THMs)produced as disinfectant byproduct was *** results proved that the water can be used in unrestricted irrigation,and after adding chlorine,it can be dumped on water bodies without health risks.

Electrical Metrology Applications of LabVIEW Software

Automation in measurement has wide range of electrical metrology applications and construction of powerful calibration software is one of the highly accurate metrological laboratories’ priorities. Thus, two automatic systems for controlling and calibrating the electrical reference standards have been established at National Institute for Standards (NIS), Egypt. The first system has been built to calibrate the zener diode reference standards while the second one has been built to calibrate the electrical sourcing and measuring instruments. These two systems act as the comprehensive and reliable structure that, from the national electrical standards, disseminates the traceability to all the electrical units under calibration. The software of the two systems has been built using the Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) graphical language. The standard development procedures have been followed in the building of both systems software. The software requirement specifications as well as functional specifications are taken into consideration. Design, implementation and testing of the software have been performed. Furthermore, software validation for measurements’ uncertainty as well as results’ compatibility in both automatic and manual modes has been achieved.

Evaluating the Effect of Algal Extracts against Ultraviolet B-Induced Skin Damage in BALB/c Mice

Ethanol extract of mixed algae--spirogyra and ulothrix was investigated to assess the effect on some biochemical parameters in UVB irradiated mice. The dorsal-thoracic region of mice were shaved and exposed to UVB radiation for 24 h for two consecutive weeks. Five groups of ten mice each were conducted： non-irradiated control and irradiated control. Mice treated with commercial cream （S.M.） at a dose of 0.1 mg/cm2 and mice treated with ethanol extract of mixed spirogyra and ulothrix at a dose of 0.1 mg/cm2 or 0.2 mg/cm2. Topical application was performed to all treated mice groups once a day for four consecutive weeks. Results showed significant differences between treated and control groups during the whole period of experiment. The clear potentiality of the ethanol extract was detected through body and skin weight, level of total protein, Superoxide Dismutase （SOD） and Catalase （CAT） activities in skin. However, UVB irradiated mice treated with 0.2 mg/cm2 exhibited the most significant effect when compared to control groups. That may be attributed to anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects of algal extract.
