Garlic (<i>allium sativum</i>) modulates the expression of angiotensin II AT<sub>2</sub>receptor in adrenal and renal tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

The loss of balance between the antagonistic activities of angiotensin II AT1/AT2 receptors has been impli-cated as a major mediator in the development of hypertension and progressive nephropathy in expe-rimental diabetes. The present study was designed to investigate the potential of garlic to modulate the level of expression of the AT2 receptor in the adrenal and renal tissues of diabetic rats. Three groups of rats were studied after 8 weeks following diabetes induction: normal, streptozotocin-induced diabetic (control diabetic), and garlic-treated diabetic rats. A polyclonal antibody of proven specificity to the AT2 receptor, as verified by Western blotting and emplo- yed in immunohistochemical assays, indicated that compared to normal rats, the highest adrenocortical AT2 receptor expression was significantly shifted from the zona glomerulosa to the zona fasciculate/ reticularis, and was significantly reduced in adrenomedul- lary chromaffin cells of control diabetic rats. In the kidney, STZ treatments were associated with a signi- ficant decrease in AT2 receptor expression throughout glomeruli and all cortical and medullary tubular segments. Compared to control diabetic rats, the labeling of the AT2 receptor in the garlic-treated diabetic group was restored among adrenocortical zona glomerulosa cells and adrenomedullary chromaffin cells and significantly reduced in the zona fasiculata, and was also restored in glomeruli and throughout renal cortical and medullary tubular segments, to le- vels comparable to those observed in normal rats. The capacity of garlic to modulate diabetes-induced AT2 receptor down-regulation may be implicated in restoring the recuperative processes mediated by AT2 receptors, which interfere with the development of hypertension and nephropathy.

Correlates of health Locus of Control among Patients Diagnosed with Type-II Diabetes Mellitus

Background: The comorbidity between chronic physical conditions and psychosocial health became common interest for health professional and researchers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among health locus of control, self efficacy, and demographic factors in patients with type-II diabetes mellitus. Method: Data were collected using cross-sectional, correaltional design from 793 patients with type-II diabetes in regards to health locus of control (hLOC) self-efficacy, and biomarkers. Results: The mean score for the internal subscale of hLOC was 27.2 (SD = 6.32), for the powerful others subscale of hLOC it was 30.9 (SD = 5.7), and for chance subscale of hLOC it was 18.6 (SD = 6.8). The mean total score of locus of control scale was 76.8 (SD = 13.1) ranging from 19 to 132. The mean score of hbA1C was 7.5 (SD = 2.6). Patients had moderate to high perception of powerful other health locus of control, and self efficacy. Results also showed that locus of control had positive and significant correlation with self efficacy (r = 0.18, p > 0.01) and negative relationship with hbA1C (r = -0.11, p > 0.01). On the other hand, age has no significant correlation with health locus of control. Conclusion: health care professionals need to enhance patient’s self-efficacy and internal power of their patients for better health outcomes. Nurses and other health professionals need to emphasize the psychosocial health aspects of patients with chronic illnesses, and in particular, those diagnosed with type-II diabetes mellitus.

It has been introduced several ways for rising fuel burning rate. Using catalyzers is a common way to rising fuel burning rate. Cu-Chromite catalyzer used in solid fuels, as burning rate catalyzer in thermal decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate and results were satisfying. This catalyzer is produced by several methods such as: ceramic, coprecipitating, sol-gel, vacuum depositioning, but this paper explains producing catalyzer by Citrate sol-gel. Thermal analysis is used for studying process also SEM, XRD, TEM, FTIR tests used for determination of particle sizes.

Impact of Left Bundle Branch Block on Left Ventricular Mechanics in Patients with Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Objectives: Left bundle branch block (LBBB) is commonly associated with heart failure. We evaluated the prevalence and impact of LBBB on left ventricular mechanics using 2D strain imaging in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM). Methods: We included 101 patients with IDCM with mean age 38 ± 18 years: 74% were males and 13.9% of them were in NYhA Class III-IV. LBBB was present in 26 (37%) of included patients. Myocardial mechanics including longitudinal, circumferential strain and rotation and LV synchronization were assessed using two-dimensional strain imaging. Results: LBBB group had higher LV volumes, and PAP compared with non LBBB. Peak LV longitudinal systolic strain (εsys) of the septum and global LV SRsys were significantly lower in LBBB compared to non LBBB group (P 0.01, 0.03). TTP-d was greater in LBBB in comparison to non LBBB group (274.5 ± 116 versus 209.4 ± 139, P 0.02). The electromechanical delay between septal segments was 35 ± 18 ms and between lateral wall segments: 48 ± 24 ms, between anterior wall segments: 21 ± 11 and between inferior wall segments: 41 ± 12. Consequently, LV mechanical dyssynchrony was more evident in IDCM patients with LBBB. QRS width was correlated inversely with LV longitudinal strain and strain rate and electromechanical delay (P 0.0001) in non LBBB group. In LBBB QRS width was not related to cardiac mechanics. Using univariate analysis and after a multiple covariate adjustment, the baseline LBBB was associated with a significantly increased LV dysfunction. Conclusion:After correcting for potential confounders, LBBB was found to be associated with more deterioration of LV mechanics and exaggerated LV dyssynchrony in patients with IDCM.

Background This study aimed to develop an expert consensus regarding the epidemiology,diagnosis,and management of cow’s milk protein allergy(CMPA)in the Middle *** A three-step modified Delphi method was utilized to develop the *** specialized pediatricians participated in the development of this *** statement was considered a consensus if it achieved an agreement level of>80%.Results The experts agreed that the double-blind placebo-controlled oral challenge test(OCT)should be performed for 2-A weeks using an amino acid formula(AAF)in formula-fed infants or children with suspected ***-fed infants with confirmed CMPA should be offered a therapeutic *** panel stated that an extensively hydrolyzed formula(ehF)is indicated in the absence of red flag *** the same time,the AAF is offered for infants with red flag signs,such as severe anaphylactic *** panel agreed that infants on an ehF with resolved symptoms within 2-4 weeks should continue the ehF with particular attention to the growth and nutritional *** the other hand,an AAF should be considered for infants with persistent symptoms;the AAF should be continued if the symptoms resolve within 2-4 weeks,with particular attention to the growth and nutritional *** cases with no symptomatic improvements after the introduction of an *** measures should be *** panel developed a management algorithm,which achieved an agreement level of 90.9%.Conclusion This consensus document combined the best available evidence and clinical experience to optimize the management of CMPA in the Middle East.

Steady State Analysis of a Doubly Fed Induction Generator

In this paper, we present the steady state analysis of a double-fed induction generator (DFIG) adopted for wind power generation. The three-phase induction machine connected to the network, to work as a generator for wind farms, is excited on the rotor circuit by a slip-frequency current injected to the rotor, from an exciter mounted on the same shaft of the machine. The resulting rotating magnetic field rotates at synchronous speed;as such the generated power has a constant frequency independent of the shaft speed. Effects of the excitation voltage magnitude and phase angle on the active and reactive power are studied, when the machine runs at constant speed. It has been shown that by controlling the excitation voltage magnitude and phase angle would control the mode of operation of the machine;motor mode or generator mode. Furthermore, the effects of the shaft speed on the active and reactive power at constant excitation voltage magnitude and constant phase angle are also investigated.

Self-Absorption Effects on Electron Temperature-Measurements Utilizing Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)-Techniques

In the present work, we have studied the temporal evolution of aluminum alloy plasma produced by the fundamental (1064 nm) of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser by placing the target material in air at atmospheric pressure. The four Al I-neutral lines at 308.21, 309.27, 394.40 and 369.15 nm as well as Al II-ionic lines at 281.61, 385.64 and 466.30 nm are used for the determination of the electron temperature Te using Saha-Boltzmann plot method. The neutral aluminum lines were found to suffer from optical thickness which manifested itself on the form of scattered points around the Saha-Boltzmann line. The isolated optically thin hydrogen hα-line at 656.27 nm appeared in the spectra under the same experimental conditions was used to correct the Al I-lines which contained some optical thickness. The measurements were repeated at different delay times ranging from 1 to 5 μs. The comparison between the deduced electron temperatures from aluminum neutral lines before correction against the effect self-absorption to that after correction revealed a precise value in temperature. The results sure that, in case of the presence of self-absorption effect the temperature varies from (1.4067 - 1.2548 eV) as the delay time is varied from 0 to 5 μs. Whereas, in the case of repairing against the effect, it varies from (1.2826 - 0.8961 eV) for the same delay time variation.

NAT2 polymorphism in Omani gastric cancer patients-risk predisposition and clinicopathological associations

AIM： To study whether N-acetyltransferase 2 （NAT2） genotypes and phenotypes are associated with increased risk factor for gastric cancer in Omani patients and to study the clinico-pathological correlations and the prognostic significance of NAT2. METhODS： Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 100 gastric cancer patients and 100 control subjects. NAT2 genotyping was performed using DNA sequencing. The prognostic significance of NAT2 and other clinicopathological features was assessed by univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS： We observed no significant association between NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes and gastric cancer risk. The IVAT2 phenotype polymorphisms and gastric cancer risk predisposition were not modified by concomitant hpylori infection and smoking. There was no significant association between NAT2 and clinicopathological features, and NAT2 had no independent prognostic significance. CONCLUSION： In the current study, NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes are not associated with gastric cancer risk predisposition. Moreover NAT2 phenotypes had no clinicopathological associations or prognostic significance.
