Octreotide ameliorates gastric lesions in chronically mild stressed rats

AIM:To evaluate the effect of chronic mild stress(CMS) on the emergence of gastric ulcers and possible modulation by octreotide,a synthetic somatostatin analogue. METHODS:Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to nine different unpredictable random stress procedures for 21 d,a multifactorial interactional animal model for *** was administered daily for 21 d at two dose levels(50 and 90μg/kg)before exposure to stress ***-and microscopical assessments were made,in addition to quantification of plasma corticosterone and gastric mucosal inflammatory,oxidative stress, and apoptotic biomarkers. RESULTS:Exposure to CMS elevated plasma corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),an event that was accompanied by gastric lesions(6.4±0.16 mm,P=0.01) and confirmed ***,the insult elevated gastric mucosal lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nmol/g tissue,P=0.001),tumor necrosis factor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,Pndin E2(117.1 ±4.31 pg/g tissue,P=0.002),and caspase-3 activity (2.4±0.14 OD/mg protein,P=0.002).Conversely,CMS mitigated interleukin-10(627.9±12.82 pg/g tissue,P= 0.001).Furthermore,in animals exposed to CMS,octreotide restored plasma corticosterone(61%and 71%from CMS,P=0.002)at both dose *** beneficial effects were associated with a remarkable suppression of gastric lesions(38%and 9%from CMS,P=0.01)and reversal of derangements in gastric mucosa. COnCLUSIOn:The current investigation provides evidence that exposure to CMS induces gastric ulceration, which was alleviated by administration of octreotide possibly possessing antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and anti-apoptotic actions.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Mapping Potential Urban Development Zones in Sinai Peninsula, Egypt Using Remote Sensing and GIS

One of the main concerns of physical planning is the proper designation of suitable sites for feasible and sustainable land use. A main importance of such issue is that it withdraws attention to the necessity of adopting a multidisciplinary approach to the zoning and site selection problem. Egypt has a top priority objective to develop Sinai Peninsula and to create new sustainable and attracting communities that should ensure a stable, economic and sustainable environment in vast desert zones. Due to the difficulty in solving a zoning problem in a desert, the use of remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) was to explore the desert potentials in the region. Five sub-models were created for five themes using Spatial Multicriteria Analysis (SMCA) and used as inputs to the final suitability model. These themes are: land resources, land stability, accessibility, cost of construction and land protection. A GIS-based model was designed following a sustainable development approach. Economic, social and environmental factors were introduced in the model to identify and map land suitable zones for urban development using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The suitability index map for urban development was produced by weighted overlay of the five sub-models themes. The most suitable zones for urban development in Sinai Peninsula amounted to 5327 square kilometers representing 17% of total area, whereas high suitable zones reached 40% indicating a high suitability of Sinai Peninsula lands for residing new urban communities.

Cyclization of 4,5-Diamino Pyrazole Derivatives and Their Antibacterial Activities

A convenient synthesis of intermediate 4,5-diamino-3-aryl-l-phenylpyrazoles 4a--4c was reported. The different cyclization reactions were carried out with chalcone, 2-mercaptoacetic acid and p-anisialdehyde, ethyl chloroformate, glyoxal and thiourea to afford different n and S containing heterocycles. The reaction conditions were compared by conventional heating and microwave irradiation. The structures of the cyclization products were de- termined by analytical and spectroscopic data. All the synthesized compounds were screened for antibacterial activities in vitro.

BACKGROUnD Blood transfusion is common during the peri-transplantation *** incidence of immunological reactions to blood transfusion after kidney transplantation and their consequences on graft outcomes have not been extensively *** To examine the risk of graft rejection and loss in patients who received blood transfusion in the immediate peri-transplantation *** We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study of 105 kidney recipients,among them 54 patients received leukodepleted blood transfusion at our center between January 2017 and March *** This study included 105 kidney recipients,of which 80%kidneys were from living-related donors,14%from living-unrelated donors,and 6%from deceased ***-related donors were mostly first-degree relatives(74.5%),while the rest were second-degree *** patients were divided into transfusion(n=54)and non-transfusion(n=51)*** average hemoglobin level at which blood transfusion was commenced was 7.4±0.9 mg/*** were no differences between the groups in terms of rejection rates,graft loss,or *** the study period,there was no significant difference in creatinine level progression between the two *** graft function was higher in the transfusion group;however,this finding was not statistically significant.A high number of transfused packed red blood cells was significantly associated with increased creatinine levels at the end of the *** Leukodepleted blood transfusion was not associated with a higher risk of rejection,graft loss,or death in kidney transplant recipients.

Automated Multi-Meter Method for the Scaling of Low AC Voltage from 200 mV to 2 mV

A set of seven single junction thermal converter Micropotentiometers (μPots) has been constructed at the national Institute for Standards (nIS), Egypt. This set has been built to cover the low ac voltage ranges from 2 mV to 200 mV at frequencies from 40 Hz up to 20 kHz. The construction of the μPots set has been presented and an adopted calibration method has been performed as well. This method has been performed by means of a step-down procedure using a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM). The scaling procedures have been carried out in sequential steps starting from the calibration of the 200 mV-μpot by using DMM that is accurately calibrated at its 200 mV ac voltage range down to 2 mV-μPot. Furthermore, a new automatic calibration system has been established to achieve the scaling procedures. This system has been specially designed using Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) software to overcome the deficiencies of manual methods. The automatic calibration has been investigated of all mPots at different frequencies. The ac-dc differences for the μPots and their uncertainty evaluation from 2 mV to 200 mV at different frequencies from 40 Hz to 20 kHz have been determined.

Chemical Composition of Sphyraena barracuda with Different Area, Size and Season, in Sudanese Red Sea Coast

This study aims to determine the effect of area, size and season on chemical composition of Sphyraena barracuda from Sudanese Red Sea Coast. A total of 180 fish samples were collected from Port Sudan and Sawakin fishing sites during the winter and summer of 2020-2021. The fishes sample ranged between (30 - 50) cm in total length and (250 - 1000) gm in body weight of small size, and ranged between (60 - 90) cm in total length and (1250 - 250) gm in body weight for large size. Fish flesh was subject to gross chemical analysis. Moisture, protein, fat, ash, acidity and pH were determined. The results indicated a significant effect by area, season and size. The different areas had a significant effect on crude protein and ash;higher parameter value is found in Sawakin. Higher chemical parameters were showed in winter than in summer. Also, size had a significant effect in all parameters (except moisture), fat and ash were high in large size. The study has concluded that the large size fishes of S. barracuda with high nutritional value when caught in winter from the southern region of Sawakin.

Granulosa Cell Tumors of the Ovary: Retrospective Analysis of 17 Cases

Background: Granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) are rare neoplasms with a relatively favorable prognosis. They are characterized by a prolonged history and a tendency to late recurrences. It is the most common type of sex cord-stromal tumors. Aims: To analyze, to report and to better understand the clinico-pathologic features and results of treatment, and prognostic factors of these tumors. Materials and Methods: A retrospective single-institutional review 17 cases of GCTs were treated in national Cancer Institute—Cairo University from January 2010 till December 2014. The clinical and pathological characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of patients with ovarian GCTs were analyzed. Results: Data from 17 patients were obtained. The median age was 54 years (range;14 - 72). Abdominal pain was the most common presentation (64.7%). The mean tumor size was 14 cm (range;7 - 23 cm). The majority of our patients were stage I (n = 11;64.7%), while (n = 3;17.6%) had stage III and (n = 2, 11.8%) were stage IV. Only one case (5.9%) had an unknown stage (explored outside nCI). The majority of cases were of adult type disease (n = 14) and low grade pathology (n = 10). In follow-up period (median = 42 months;ranging 9 - 60) three patients relapsed;the median overall survival time was not reached yet, however, the estimated 3-year survival was 72.5%. Conclusion: Granulosa cell tumors are rare neoplasms of the ovaries. They progress slowly and often are diagnosed in an early stage. Surgery is the main line of treatment. Prolonged post-therapeutic follow-up is necessary. Definition of proper prognostic factors is mandatory.

Extracranial Head and neck, Peripheral nerve Tumors: A 10-Year Experience at nCI, Egypt

Background: Peripheral nerve tumors (PnT) originate from the neural crest and typically formed from Schwann cell sheath. Considering the number of nerves in this area, they form a very small percentage of neoplastic lesions of the head & neck. A solitary mass in the lateral neck frequently confronts the surgeon. An uncommon cause for such a nodule is a neoplasm arising from nerve tissue with PnTs being the commonest of them to face. Aims: To study the clinico-pathological characteristics, presentations, surgical approaches, postoperative complications & outcome of management. Materials & Methods: a single institution combined retrospective & prospective study. A retrospective analysis of all cases presented nCI-Cairo University with H&n extracranial PnST candidate for surgery from Jan 2009 until the end of Dec 2015 & prospective analysis of all cases with the same presentation presented to the nCI from Jan 2016 until the end of June 2019. 23 cases were included. Data were collected then analyzed. Results: Mean age was 34.7 years with female to male ratio 1.9:1. Mean size was 5.4 cm. Commonest presentation was asymptomatic neck lump located laterally in the neck (9 cases, 39%). CT scanning was done in 17 cases (74%). As regard pathology, we have only 4 malignant cases (17%). Most tumors (9 cases, 39%) originated from cranial nerves. 18 cases (78%) were resected through the neck. Complication occurred in 13 cases (56%), most of them during tumor dissection from its nerve origin or root. Vascular complications occurred in 6 cases (26%) due to bleeding controlled with ECA ligation (facial ischemia, hemiparesis & paresthesia). Cranial nerve injury (XI, XII) occurred in two cases (8.7%) & Speech defects in other two 2 cases (8.7%) due to maxillary resection. Postoperative?radiation was given to all 4 malignant cases (17%) of MPnST with Postoperative Chemotherapy to all cases experienced relapse after adjuvant RT.
