Antibiotic ciprofloxacin removal from aqueous solutions by electrochemically activated persulfate process:Optimization,degradation pathways,and toxicology assessment

Ciprofloxacin(CIP)is a commonly used antibiotic in the fluoroquinolone group and is widely used in medical and veterinary medicine disciplines to treat bacterial *** CIP is discharged into the sewage system,it cannot be removed by a conventional wastewater treatment plant because of its recalcitrant *** this study,boron-doped diamond anode and persulfate were used to degrade CIP in an aquatic solution by creating an electrochemically activated persulfate(EAP)*** added to the system as a coactivator and the process was called EAP+*** effects of independent variables,including pH,Fe^(2+),persulfate concentration,and electrolysis time on the systemwere optimized using the response surface *** results showed that the EAP+Fe process removed 94%of CIP under the following optimum conditions:A pH of 3,persulfate/Fe^(2+)concentration of 0.4 mmol/L,initial CIP concentration 30 mg/L,and electrolysis time of 12.64 *** removal efficiency was increased from 65.10%to 94.35%by adding Fe^(2+)as a transition *** degradation products,7 pathways,and 78 intermediates of CIP were studied,and three of those intermediates(m/z 298,498,and 505)were *** toxicological analysis based on toxicity estimation software results indicated that some degradation products of CIP were toxic to targeted animals,including fathead minnow,Daphnia magna,Tetrahymena pyriformis,and *** optimumoperation costswere similar in EAP and EAP+Fe processes,approximately 0.54€/m^(3).

Prognostic significance of tumor budding,desmoplastic reaction,and lymphocytic infiltration in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma

TOPsIs based Taguchi design optimization for CVD growth of graphene using different carbon sources: Graphene thickness, defectiveness and homogeneity

Chemical inhomogeneity of chemical vapor deposition(CVD) grown graphene compromises its usage in highperformance devices. In this study, TOPsIs based Taguchi optimization was performed to improve thickness uniformity and defect density of CVD grown graphene. 1.56% decrease in the mean 2 D/G intensity ratio, 87.96% improvement in the mean D/G intensity ratio, 56.07% improvement in the standard deviation D/G intensity ratio, 25.21%improvement in the standard deviation 2 D/G intensity ratio, and 69.32% improvement in the surface roughness were achieved with TOPsIs based Taguchi optimization. The statistical differences between the copper and silicon substrates have been found significantly in terms of their impacts on the graphene's properties with the0.000 p-value for the mean D/G intensity ratio and with the 0.009 p-value for the mean 2 D/G intensity ratio, respectively. Graphene having 11% lower mean D/G intensity ratio(low defective graphene products) compared to the values given in the literature using single-response optimization was obtained using multi-response optimization.

Evaluation of success rates of immediate and delayed implants after tooth extraction

Objective To evaluate the success rates of immediate and delayed placement of implants with respect to the causes of tooth extraction and implant *** A total of 310 dental implants (immediate implants∶delayed implants=76∶234) were inserted into 80 patients. The types,sizes and positions of the implants and the causes of tooth extraction were recorded. We then investigated the relationship of implant loss with the causes of tooth extraction and placement methods. Results A higher failure rate was found for the implants in the posterior region of the maxilla,and when periodontitis was cited as a reason for tooth extraction. The overall success rates were 93.4% and 95.7% in the immediate and delayed implant placement groups,respectively,after a 2-year follow-up. No obvious relationship of success rate was observed with the implant placement method,cause of tooth extaction,and implants’ position. Conclusion The immediate placement of implants into fresh extraction sockets could offer advantages over the delayed implant placement. It seems to be a safe and predictable method for patients.

Effluent dissolved organic nitrogen（DON） is problematic in nutrient sensitive surface waters and needs to be reduced to meet demanding total dissolved nitrogen discharge *** DON（ABDON） is a portion of DON utilized by algae or algae ＋ bacteria,while biodegradable DON（BDON） is a portion of DON decomposable by *** and BDON in a two-stage trickling filter（TF） wastewater treatment plant was evaluated using three different microalgal species,selenastrum capricornutum,Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Chlorella vulgaris and mixed cultured *** showed that up to80% of DON was bioavailable to algae or algae ＋ bacteria inoculum while up to 60% of DON was biodegradable in all the *** showed that *** and *** can be used as a test species the same as *** since there were no significant differences among these three algae species based on their ability to remove nitrogen species.

Alternative scattering kernels for the first estimates of a reactor:diffusion length

Diffusion-length calculations of neutrons are performed using the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The neutrons are assumed to move with constant energy in a uniform homogeneous slab. An alternative scattering kernel called an Anl?–Gngr phase function and a traditional Henyey–Greenstein phase function are used for the scattering function in the stationary neutron transport equation. First, analytic expressions and then numerical results are obtained for the diffusion length for various values of the scattering and cross-sectional *** results obtained from both scattering kernels for the diffusion length of the neutrons are given in tables side by side for comparison. The applicability of the method is easily demonstrated by these results.

Urine products of bone breakdown as markers of bone resorption and clinical usefulness of urinary hydroxyproline:an overview

Purpose The purpose of this study is to review the urine products of bone breakdown as markers of bone resorption and usefulness of urinary hydroxyproline.Data Related researches published in 1985 -2000 were systematically reviewed.Results Bone markers could be used for early diagnosis of bone metabolic diseases. Biochemical markers of bone resorption that reflect osteoclast activity and/or collagen degradation provide a new and potentially important clinical tool for the assessment and monitoring of bone metabolism. Assessment of bone resorption can be achieved with measurement of urinary hydroxylysine glycosides, urinary excretion of the collagen pyridinium cross-links, urinary excretion of type I collagen telopeptide breakdown products (cross-linked telopeptides) and urinary hydroxyproline.Conclusion Urinary hydroxyproline has been in use as a marker of bone resorption, but it lacks sensitivity and specificity. It is a modified aminoacid that is a metabolic product of collagen breakdown. Hydroxyproline may be released either free or with fragments of the collagen molecule attached during bone resorption, and it is also liberated by the breakdown of complement and nonskeletal collagen.

Hepatic osteodystrophy and liver cirrhosis

AIM: To investigate the correlation between hepatic osteodystrophy and osteoporosis in patients with liver cirrhosis. METHODs: Bone mineral density of the patients (n = 55) and that of the control group (n = 30) were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. All the women in the study were premenopausal. Deoxypyridinoline, pyridinoline and urinary Ca 2+ were measured as bone destruction markers, while alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) were measured as bone formation markers. Furthermore, interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), vitamin D3, direct bilirubin, albumin, cortisol and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels were measured. The independent student t test and χ 2 test were employed in comparing both groups, and the Pearson correlation test was used to determine associations. REsULTs: Comparing cirrhosis and control groups, lumbar total T-score (-1.6 ± 1.2 g/cm 2 vs -0.25 ± 1.3 g/cm 2 , P score (-1.2 ± 1.23 g/cm 2 vs -0.6 ± 1.3 g/cm 2 , P score (-0.05 ± 1 g/cm 2 vs -0.6 ± 0.9 g/cm 2 , P = 0.003) and total femur Z-score (-0.08 ± 1.5 g/cm 2 vs 0.7 ± 0.9 g/cm 2 , P =0.003) showed significantly lower values in the cirrhosis group. Blood ALP level (109.2 ± 57 U/Lvs 62.6 ± 32.5 U/L, P s 3.3 ± 3.1 pg/mL, P = 0.01), TNF-α level (42.6 ± 33.2 pg/mL vs 25.3 ± 12.3 pg/mL, P = 0.007) and direct bilirubin level (0.9 ± 0.7 mg/dL vs 0.3 ± 0.2 mg/dL, P significantly higher in the cirrhosis group. IGF-1 level (47.7 ± 26.2 ng/mL vs 143.4 ± 53.2 ng/mL, P steocalcin level (1.05 ± 2.5 ng/mL vs 7.0 ± 13 ng/mL, P = 0.002) and 24 h urinary Ca 2+ (169.6 ± 227.2 mg/dL vs 287 ± 168.6 mg/dL, P = 0.003) were significantly lower in the cirrhosis group.
