Thermal management of nanoliquid forced convective flow over heated blocks in channel by using double elliptic porous objects

Effects of using nanoliquid and double porous elliptic objects on the flow separation and convective heat transfer control for flow over multiple heated blocks in channel are numerically investigated by using finite element method.Spherical,brick,blade and cylindrical shaped alumina particles are used in water up to solid volume fraction of 2%.Impacts of Reynolds number(50≤Re≤500),permeability of the porous ellipses(10^(-5)≤D_(a1)≤5×10^(-2) and 10^(-5)≤D_(a2)≤5×10^(-2)),aspect ratio of the ellipses(0.25≤AR_(1)≤1.5,0.25≤AR_(2)≤1.5),distance between the ellipses(0.2H≤sx≤1.6H)and distance of the first ellipse from inlet(-H≤mx≤H)on the hydro-thermal performance are explored.The highest performance improvement is obtained by using the cylindrical shaped particles in the base heat transfer fluid at the highest solid volume fraction and the amount of heat transfer enhancement are 33%and 40.5%for hot blocks while negligible pressure drop is observed.Varying the aspect ratio of the ellipses in the perpendicular direction to the flow,up to 25%and 30%heat transfer increment are obtained for hot block with slight rise of pressure coefficient.However,when varying the horizontal location of the porous ellipses in the channel and permeability of them,there is considerable rise of pressure drop.Variation of the average heat transfer from the hot blocks with varying permeability of the ellipses are obtained as 32%and 25%.Successful hydro-thermal performance estimation results are achieved by using artificial neural networks with feed-forward network architecture of 1 hidden layer and 17 neurons.

Effect of Ozone Treatment on Microbiological Properties of Stored Wheat

In this study, ozone gas was applied to samples of durum wheat stored in four experimental groups (durum wheat without any treatment for comparison, durum wheat treated with ozone, purified durum wheat, and purified durum wheat treated with ozone). Two groups were treated with ozone gas at 3 ppm concentration for 1 hour. Groups were then placed in air-tight glass jars and stored for 6 months at variable temperatures between 24.7°C to 34.8°C. Microbiological (total count bacteria, yeast/molds and coliform) and physical properties (moisture, color and ash) evaluated. Ozone application statistically caused a significant reduction in the numbers of bacteria, yeast, molds and coliforms. Ozone application, washing process and storage temperature are the major factors affecting the microbial counts. No significant differences were determined in moisture and ash contents of samples after ozone treatment. The color measurement results showed that color values of wheat samples were affected by ozone treatment, storage and washing.

本文研究了在层流状态下纳米流体强制对流时三角形弹性壁通气腔内的相变过程动力学。采用有限元方法探讨了雷诺数(Re)、柯西数(Ca)和腔口尺寸对流场和相变动力学的影响。研究发现,Re、Ca和腔口尺寸的变化对进气道下流动再循环和相变动力学有一定的影响。当Re从100增加到200时,相变时间(Tf)先缩短后延长。在Re=100时,混合纳米流体相变速度快,相变时间降低约26%。当Ca为最大值时,相变时间减少了12.5%。腔口尺寸对相变有负面影响,而腔口尺寸的增大使相变时间增加了19%。

Background:fever of unknown origin(fUO)in developing countries is an important dilemma and further research is needed to elucidate the infectious causes of fUO.Methods:A multi-center study for infectious causes of fUO in lower middle-income countries(LMIC)and lowincome countries(LIC)was conducted between January 1,2018 and January 1,2023.In total,15 participating centers from seven different countries provided the data,which were collected through the Infectious DiseasesInternational Research Initiative platform.Only adult patients with confirmed infection as the cause of fUO were included in the study.The severity parameters were quick Sequential Organ failure Assessment(qSOfA)≥2,intensive care unit(ICU)admission,vasopressor use,and invasive mechanical ventilation(IMV).Results:A total of 160 patients with infectious fUO were included in the study.Overall,148(92.5%)patients had community-acquired infections and 12(7.5%)had hospital-acquired infections.The most common infectious syndromes were tuberculosis(TB)(n=27,16.9%),infective endocarditis(n=25,15.6%),malaria(n=21,13.1%),brucellosis(n=15,9.4%),and typhoid fever(n=9,5.6%).Plasmodium falciparum,Mycobacterium tuberculosis,Brucellae,Staphylococcus aureus,Salmonella typhi,and Rickettsiae were the leading infectious agents in this study.A total of 56(35.0%)cases had invasive procedures for diagnosis.The mean qSOfA score was 0.76±0.94{median(interquartile range[IQR]):0(0–1)}.ICU admission(n=26,16.2%),vasopressor use(n=14,8.8%),and IMV(n=10,6.3%)were not rare.Overall,38(23.8%)patients had at least one of the severity parameters.The mortality rate was 15(9.4%),and the mortality was attributable to the infection causing fUO in 12(7.5%)patients.Conclusions:In LMIC and LIC,tuberculosis and cardiac infections were the most severe and the leading infections causing fUO.

Effect of size on biaxial flexural strength for cement-based materials by using a triangular plate method

The effect of size on the biaxial flexural strength(BfS)of Portland cement mortar was investigated by using the recently proposed triangular plate method(TPM).An experimental program was conceived to study the size effect by keeping a constant water-cement ratio of 0.485,cement-sand ratio of 1:2.75,and using unreinforced triangular mortar plates of five different thicknesses and seven different side lengths.The BfS of the produced specimens was tested,and variations of BfS depending on specimen thickness and side length were determined.The results indicated that increases in triangular plate specimen side length and specimen thickness led to a decrease in the BfS of Portland cement mortar.The effect of specimen length increase on BfS was more significant than on the effect of the specimen thickness.The variations in specimens’thickness indicated a deterministic Type I size effect,while the variations in specimens’length showed an energetic-statistical Type I size effect.

Bladder calculi concomitant with benign prostatic enlargement:is prostate surgery mandatory in patients who have never received medical therapy?

The historical dogma that bladder calculi comprise the main indication for prostatic surgery has recently been questioned.In this study,we aimed to predict which patients should undergo simultaneous prostate and bladder calculi surgery or only bladder calculi removal by evaluating preoperative risk factors.One hundred and seventeen men with bladder stones and concomitant benign prostate enlargement(BPE)who had not received medical treatment before were included in the study.In the first step,only the bladder calculi of patients were removed and medical treatment was given for BPE.The patients who benefited from medical treatment during the follow-up were defined as Group 1 and the patients who required prostate surgery for any indication comprised Group 2.Risk factors for prostate surgery requirements were determined by comparing preoperative characteristics between the two groups with a cox regression model.In the follow-up of 117 patients with bladder stones removed and medical treatment initiated,49(41.9%)patients had prostate surgery indications.The indication for 33(67.3%)of 49 patients was medical treatment failure.The presence of intravesical prostatic protrusion(IPP;hazard ratio:2.071,95%confidence interval[Cl]:1.05-4.05,P=0.034),and high postvoiding residual urine volume(hazard ratio:1.013,95%Cl:1.007-1.019,Pfound to be preoperative risk factors for needing future prostate surgery.In patients who have not received medical treatment for BPE before,bladder calculi developing secondary to BPE do not always constitute an indication for prostate surgery.

Model Predictive Control Coupled with Artificial Intelligence for Eddy Current Dynamometers

The recent studies on Artificial Intelligence(AI)accompanied by enhanced computing capabilities supports increasing attention into traditional control methods coupled with AI learning methods in an attempt to bringing adap-tiveness and fast responding features.The Model Predictive Control(MPC)tech-nique is a widely used,safe and reliable control method based on constraints.On the other hand,the Eddy Current dynamometers are highly nonlinear braking sys-tems whose performance parameters are related to many processes related vari-ables.This study is based on an adaptive model predictive control that utilizes selected AI methods.The presented approach presents an updated the mathema-tical model of an Eddy Current Dynamometer based on experimentally obtained system operational data.finally,the comparison of AI methods and related learn-ing performances based on the assessment technique of mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)issues are discussed.The results indicate that Single Hidden Layer Neural Network(SHLNN),General Regression Neural Network(GRNN),Radial Basis Network(RBNN),Neuro fuzzy Network(ANfIS)coupled MPC have quite satisfying performances.The presented results indicate that,amongst them,GRNN appears to provide the best performance.

本文采用数值模拟方法研究了强制对流条件下不同传热流体对含相变材料柱形容器的放热性能的影响。以空气、氢、水和含氧化铝颗粒的纳米流体作为传热流体,同时考虑了含相变材料(PCM)区域的结构变化,采用有限元法进行求解。研究了不同传热流体类型、雷诺数(100~300)和含PCM区域结构变化(h_(x)在0.01d_(1)~0.65d_(1),h_(y)在0.1h_(1)~0.4h_(1))下不同相的换热动力学特征。研究发现,换热流体类型对放热时间影响较大,以空气为换热流体时相变完成时间比以空气为换热流体时的长10倍以上,而以纳米流体为换热流体时的时间最短。当含PCM区域减小时,放热时间缩短。含PCM区域的结构导致涡流的形成,这使在内筒的半径和高度最大处的性能下降。当内筒半径从h_(x)=0.35d_(1)增加到h_(x)=0.45d_(1)时,放热时间延长约12%。在不同雷诺数下,PCM的温度和液体组分的动态特性均受雷诺数的影响,与最小雷诺数相比,最大雷诺数下的PCM的放电时间缩短了48%左右。

Evaluation of response to gemcitabine plus cisplatin-based chemotherapy using positron emission computed tomography for metastatic bladder cancer

BACKGROUND The purpose of the present study was to examine retrospectively the contribution of 18fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography computed tomography(18fDG-PET/CT)to the evaluation of response to first-line gemcitabine plus cispla-tin-based chemotherapy in patients with metastatic bladder cancer.AIM To evaluate the response to Gemcitabine plus Cisplatin-based chemotherapy using 18fDG-PET/CT imaging in patients with metastatic bladder cancer.METHODS Between July 2007 and April 2019,79 patients underwent 18fDG-PET/CT imaging with the diagnosis of Metastatic Bladder Carcinoma(M-BCa).A total of 42 pa-tients(38 male,4 female)were included in the study,and all had been admi-nistered Gemcitabine plus Cisplatin-based chemotherapy.After completion of the therapy,the patients underwent a repeat 18fDG-PET/CT scan and the results were compared with the PET/CT findings before chemotherapy according to European Organisation for the Research and treatment of cancer criteria.Mean age was 66.1 years and standard deviation was 10.7 years(range:41–84 years).RESULTS Of the patients,seven(16.6%)were in complete remission,17(40.5%)were in partial remission,six(14.3%)had a stable disease,and 12(28.6%)had a pro-gressive disease.The overall response rate was 57.1 percent.CONCLUSION 18fDG-PET/CT can be considered as a successful imaging tool in evaluating response to first-line chemotherapy for metastatic bladder cancer.Anatomical and functional data obtained from PET/CT scans may be useful in the planning of secondline and thirdline chemotherapy.

Patterns in the relationship between acute COVID-19/long COVID-19 and quality of life:A cross-sectional study of patients attending a tertiary care hospital in Turkey

Objective:To determine the change in the quality of life(QoL)of patients who applied to a tertiary outpatient clinic according to their COVID-19 status.Methods:This cross-sectional study comprised 1370 participants.Short form-12(Sf-12),which includes Physical Component Summary(PCS)and Mental Component Summary(MCS)domains,was used to evaluate the QoL.Different linear regression models created using PCS-12 and MCS-12 were dependent variables.Results:A total of 19.2% of participants had acute COVID-19,and 8.4%had long COVID-19.The most common sypmtoms were fatigue(72.6%),headache(42.5%),and joint pain(39.8%)in patients with long COVID-19.The model including all participants showed that long COVID-19 reduced the QoL in multivariate analysis for both MCS and PCS,while acute COVID-19 had no significant effect on the QoL comparing with those without COVID-19.Model that included participants with COVID-19 showed that long COVID-19 negatively affected the QoL in the multivariate model for PCS-12 and MCS-12.Variables that were significant in the multivariate model for those who had long COVID-19 were having a chronic disease and presence of ongoing symptoms.females were disadvantaged for PCS-12 and MCS-12 in the multivariate models including all participants,and models including participants who have had COVID-19.Low educational group were disadvantaged for PCS-12 in the multivariate model including all participants.This group were also disadvantaged for PCS-12 and MCS-12 in the multivariate models including participants who had COVID-19.Conclusions:In studies,acute COVID-19 and long COVID-19 should be treated as separate categories.The effects of long COVID-19 should be considered when providing and planning health services.The effect of gender,and education,on QoL shows that health inequalities continue to be effective during the pandemic period.
