Background The change of anaerobic exercise abilities during and after a high-altitude expedition or hypoxic exposure is not well studied. To evaluate the effects of an extreme-altitude expedition on anaerobic performance, the lO-second supramaximal test and endocrine hormones were evaluated before and after an expedition to Peak Lenin. Methods Four subjects （3 male and 1 female, age （30.5＋16.5） years） were recruited into the study. Three sets of tests were performed, including a basic test at sea level and 20 days before first arrival at the base camp （3600 m）, a middle test done at day after returning from the summit to the base camp and the post test at the lOth day after return to the sea level. Both the supramaximal test, performed by a cycle ergometer, and body composition, performed by bioelectrical impedance analysis, were completed before the basic test and post test. The endocrine hormones including cortisol, growth hormone, testosterone, noradrenaline, adrenaline, dopamine, glucagon and β-endorphin were measured at all tests. Results Comparing the conditions before and after the expedition, the body measurement parameters were decreased alter the expedition, i.e., body weight （-4.22%, P〈O.05）, fat-free mass （-2.09%, P〈O.01） and body fat （-8.95%, P=0.172）. The peak power relative/body weight ratio （PP/BW） was similar （（9.70±1.97） vs （9.11±1.80） W/kg, P=-0.093）, while mean power/body weight ratio （MP/BW） was reduced significantly after the expedition （（9.14±1.77） vs （8.33±1.74） W/kg, P 〈0.05）. Peak power/fat-free mass （PP/FFM）, mean power/fat-free mass （MP/FFM） and fatigue index （FI） were significantly lower after the expedition （PP/FFM：（11.95±1.71） vs （10.99±1.59） W/kg, P 〈0.05; MP/FFM：（11.26±1.50） vs （10.04±1.55） W/kg, P〈O.O05; FI （85.55±4.17）% vs （77.25±4.40）%, P〈O.05）. 为探究山西省大同市册田水库浮游生物群落结构的季节差异及其功能群特征,分别于2020年10月12日,以及2021年3月27日、6月21日和9月2日共4个季节采样,对浮游生物功能群特征包括种类组成、生物量、密度、时空分布及其与水环境因子间的关系进行了分析。结果表明:本次调查共鉴定出浮游植物8门63属122种,生物量、密度变化范围分别为7.31~45.69 mg/L和6 500.21~15 183.93 ind./L,浮游植物可划分为30个功能群,其中功能群N、J和W1为代表性功能群;共鉴定出主要浮游动物4个类群13属21种,生物量、密度变化范围分别为1.49~25.53 mg/L和2 128.90~17 699.72 ind./L,浮游动物可划分为9个功能群,其中RF、LCF为代表性功能群;秋、冬、春、夏4个季节的水质综合营养状态指数平均值分别为53.45、40.19、52.66和48.87;4个季节浮游植物和浮游动物的Shannon-Wiener多样性指数(H′)分别为0.80~1.54和0.24~1.00,Pielou均匀度指数(J)分别为0.17~0.32和0.08~0.32,Margalef丰富度指数(d)分别为12.81~16.18和2.08~2.87,Simpson优势度指数(D)分别为0.40~0.77和0.10~0.54;Pearson、Mental相关分析及冗余分析显示,温度、溶解氧、磷、氮和叶绿素a等是影响册田水库浮游生物群落结构的最重要因子。研究表明,册田水库浮游生物种类组成、功能群结构、生物量及密度在季节上存在显著性差异,册田水库水质处于重污染状态,建议放养以滤食浮游生物为主的鱼类。

BACKGROUND： Mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） appear to be a good alternative to Schwann cells in the treatment of peripheral nerve injury. Fetal stem cells, like umbilical cord blood （UCB） and umbilical cord （UC） stem cells, have several advantages over adult stem cells. OBJECTIVE： To assess the effects of UC-derived MSCs （UCMSCs） and UCB-derived MSCs （UCBMSCs） in repair of sciatic nerve defects. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A randomized controlled animal experiment was performed at the laboratory of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, from July to December 2009. MATERIALS： UCMSCs were provided by the Research Institute of Biotechnology, Dongguk University. UCBMSCs were provided by the Laboratory of Stem Cells and Tumor Biology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University. Dulbecco＇s modified Eagle＇s medium （DMEM） was purchased from Gibco-BRL, USA. METHODS： Seven-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly and evenly divided into three groups： DMEM, UCBMSCs, and UCMSCs. A 10-mm defect in the left sciatic nerve was constructed in all rats. DMEM （15 μL） containing 1×10^6 UCBMSCs or UCMSCs was injected into the gap between nerve stumps, with the surrounding epineurium as a natural conduit. For the DMEM group, simple DMEM was injected. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： At 7 weeks after sciatic nerve dissection, dorsal root ganglia neurons were labeled by fluorogold retrograde labeling. At 8 weeks, electrophysiology and histomorphometry were performed. At 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after surgery, sciatic nerve function was evaluated using gait analysis. RESULTS： The UCBMSCs group and the UCMSCs group exhibited similar sciatic nerve function and electrophysiological indices, which were better than the DMEM group, as measured by gait analysis （P 〈 0.05）. This study was undertaken to determine the impact on ejaculatory function of tamsulosin （0.2 mg） given once daily （OD） for 12 weeks and to identify risk factors for ejaculatory dysfunction in patients undergoing this treatment. Males with an International Prostatic Symptom Score （IPSS） ≥ 8 were enrolled in this study. All participants completed questionnaires, including the IPSS and the Male Sexual Health Questionnaire （MSHQ）, and serum prostate-specific antigen, transrectal ultrasound and uroflowmetry with post-void residual were measured. After initiating 0.2 mg OD tamsulosin, patients were re-evaluated on the fourth and twelfth weeks of medication. The chi-squared test, the independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare means. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the odds ratio for all risk factors. A total of 177 men constituted the study cohort. No significant difference was observed between baseline and follow-up for the erectile function, ejaculatory function, satisfaction, sexual activity and desire domains （EFD, EjFD, SDA and ADD） or for erectile or ejaculatory bother mean scores. After 12 weeks, the overall incidence of ejaculatory dysfunction （EjD） was 13.4%. Incidences of the seven different types of EjD （decreased frequency, delay, dryness, decreased strength/force, decreased volume, decreased pleasure and pain at ejaculation） were 2.4%, 3.1%, 3.9%, 3.9%, 6.3%, 7.1% and 3.1%, respectively. Baseline EjFD scores were higher for I PSS responders than for non-responders （26.09 vs. 24.06, P=0.03）. An EjFD score reduction was more frequent in IPSS responders. The incidence of EjD was small, but not negligible and was more frequent in patients with less lower urinary tract symptoms, a smaller prostate, higher baseline MSHQ totals and higher EjFD scores.

＜正＞The interdecadal change in seasonal predictability and numerical models’ seasonal forecast skill in the Northern Hemisphere（NH） are examined using both observations and the seasonal hindcast from six coupled atmosphere-ocean climate models for the 21 years of 1960-1980（P1） and 1981-2001（P2）.It is shown that the seasonal forecast skill of the multimodel ensemble（MME） is significantly increased from P1 to P2 for all four seasons. Possible reasons accounting for the interdecadal change of the seasonal forecast skill include: （1）The numerical model’s seasonal forecast skill of the mean state,the time variability and the spatial structures of the sea surface temperature（SST） and precipitation over the tropical Pacific are much better in P2 compared to P1.（2）The examination of the potential predictability of the atmosphere,estimated by the ratio of the total variance to the variance of the model forecasts due to internal dynamics,reveals that the atmospheric potential predictability is significantly increased after 1980s which is mainly due to an increased influence of E1 Nino-Southern Oscillation（ENSO） signal over the North Pacific and North American（NPNA） regions.（3）The long-term climate trends in the atmosphere are found to contribute,to some extent,to the increased seasonal forecast skill especially over the Eurasian regions.（4）The improved ocean observations in P2 provide better initial conditions for the coupled numerical Models’ seasonal forecast.

Using a slightly modified IPCC method, we examined changes in annual fluxes of CO2 and contributions of energy consumption, limestone use, waste combustion, land-use change, and forest growth to the fluxes in South Korea from 1990to 1997. Our method required less data and resulted in a larger estimate of CO2released by industrial processes, comparing with the original IPCC guideline. However, net CO2 emission is not substantially different from the estimates of IPCC and modified methods. Net CO2 emission is intimately related to GDP as Koreaneconomy has heavily relied on energy consumption and industrial activities, which are major sources of CO2. Total efflux of CO2 was estimated to be 63.6 Tg C/ain 1990 and amounted to 112.9 Tg C/a in 1997. Land-use change contributed to annual budget of CO2 in a relatively small portion. Carbon dioxide was sequesteredby forest biomass at the rate of 6.5 Tg C/a in 1990 and 8.5 Tg C/a in 1997. Although CO2 storage in the forests increased, the sink effect was overwhelmed by extensive energy consumption, suggesting that energy-saving strategies will be more effective in reducing CO2 emission in Korea than any other practices. It is presumed that plant uptake of CO2 is underestimated as carbon contained in plant detritus and belowground living biomass were not fully considered. Furthermore, the soil organic carbon stored in forest decomposes in various ways in rugged mountains depending on their conditions, such as slope, aspect and elevation, which could have an effect on decomposition rate and carbon stores in soils. Thus, carbon sequestration of forests deserves further attention.
