This study aims to develop a force sensor system with a pressure-sensitive conductive rubber (PSCR), which shows the decrease of electrical resistance when pressure is applied. The biggest obstacle of the sensor is a poor reproducibility in the characteristic between the force and the resistance of the PSCR, which derived from a hysteresis and time variant properties. In this paper, we propose one method for recognizing a magnitude of the force to the PSCR using frequency tables. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed on the basis of experimental results.

AIM:To clarify the endoscopic and clinical findings of cytomegalovirus(CMV) gastritis after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(allo-SCT).METHODS:Between 1999 and 2005,523 patients underwent allo-SCT at our hospital,and 115 of these patients with gastrointestinal symptoms underwent ***:CMV gastritis was diagnosed pathologically in seven patients(1.3%) with the other 108 patients serving as *** of the seven patients developed positive CMV antigenemia,and five complained of abdominal *** of abdominal pain preceded CMV antigenemia in four of the f ive *** examination showed oozing(n=2),erosion(n=6),and redness(n=5) in the seven patients with CMV gastritis,while the control patients showed oozing(n=3),erosion(n=24),and redness(n=100).Erosion and oozing were more frequently documented in patients with CMV gastritis compared with the controls,and the differences were statistically significant(P=0.0012 and 0.029,respectively).CMV inclusion bodies were documented in 12 of 14 biopsy specimens obtained from erosive lesions,while they were identif ied in 4 of 15 biopsy specimens obtained from lesions other than erosions(P=0.0025).CONCLUSION:This study suggests that erosion and oozing,as well as abdominal pain,are useful indicators in the diagnosis of CMV gastritis following allo-SCT.

The electricity-conducting rubber force sensor is an attractive candidate as a low-cost material for tactile sensors. This article shows the evidence that the output reproducibility is largely improved when two identical sheets of the sensors are stacked. The stacked structure may reduce accidental error that is a fatal obstacle in an accurate control system.

Introduction SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is an effective means to prevent severe illness and death due to SARS-CoV-2 infection[1].Vaccine safety has been carefully monitored to be sure that the benefit outweighs the risk of adverse events(AEs).Common AEs of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine,for example,include fatigue(45%),headache(40%),and chills(28%)after the first administration in accordance with the adult phase Ⅲ clinical trial[1].

Compression force sensors are indispensable to tactile sensors in humanoid robots. We are investigating the application of low-cost electrically conducting rubber sheets to force sensors, of which the biggest problem is its poor reproducibility. We have found that the deposition of aluminum by a vacuum evaporation method shows such an excellent characteristic that the sensor can be used in a wide range under 10.33 N/cm2. In this article, we investigated time response of the sensors and also studied how the radiation heating during the vacuum evaporation process for Al deposition affected their sensing property. We found that the radiation heating induces deterioration from the point of view of standard deviation of the output voltage of the sensors at a transient region. We convince that a low-temperature Al deposition method should be developed to form electrodes on the electrical conducting rubber sensors.

How Do Weekly Magazines Provide Information on Urogenital Cancer to the Public in Aged Societies?

Little information on cancer coverage rather than newspaper and television is available. Japanese weekly magazines have a circulation of over 2,700,000 per week. To examine how they delivered urogenital cancer information to the public, cancer-related articles and advertisements in six major Japanese weekly magazines from 2009 to 2010 was analyzed. 1.8% of total articles and advertisements were cancer-related. Prostate cancer (n = 119) was the second-most common topic, following lung cancer (n = 145), whereas only three articles were published on kidney or bladder cancer. The 53 articles on therapies for prostate cancer comprised radiotherapy (n = 29), surgery (n = 16), chemotherapy (n = 4), and others (n = 4). All 42 comments or interviews were cited in the article on prostate cancer, while 26 of them were attributed to only two famous doctors. Although cancer coverage in weekly magazines could be useful to spread information on prostate cancer, we should recognize their considerable bias based on a disproportionate emphasis.

Tactile sensors are believed to be a key element in order to realize robotic fingers to catch a fragile object without damage. Force sensitive conductive rubber is a low-cost material and then attractive for the application to tactile sensors. We have studied the effect of electrodes attached to the rubber sheets. We have tried four kinds of electrodes: vacuum deposited Al, adhesive Cu tape, Al thin film sheet and silver paste. It can be concluded that vacuum deposited Al has the highest potential from the practical point of view;it has the widest dynamic range and good precision at the same time.

Changes in Activity of Three Sulfurtransferases in Response to Exposure to Cadmium, Lead and Mercury Ions

Cadmium, lead and mercury are environmentally persistent toxicants that affect tissues and cellular components or exert an effect on generation of reactive oxygen species causing a decreased level of available antioxidant reserves. Sulfurtransferases are enzymes that are widespread in nature. Rhodanese, 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase and γ-cystathionase play an important role in the metabolism of L-cysteine. Heavy metal ions can bind to -SH groups of cysteine residues in their active sites and, therefore, decrease the activity of these enzymes and result in changes in the level of sulfane sulfur-containing compounds, products of L-cysteine desulfuration. Changes in the activity of sulfurtransferases were investigated in the kidneys, heart, brain, liver and skeletal muscle of Marsh frogs (Pelophylax ridibundus) after 10 days of exposure to Pb(NO3)2 at the concentration of 28 mg/L and CdCl2 at the concentration of 40 mg or 80 mg/L, and in Xenopus laevies tissues after 7 and 14 days of exposure to HgCl2 at the concentration of 1.353 mg/L. The investigated heavy metal ions have a tendency to inhibit the activity of sulfurtransferases and decrease the level of glutathione, what can result in oxidative stress and oxidation of cysteine -SH groups to -SOH. This reversible oxidation and reduction of these redox sensitive groups can play a role in defenses against oxidative stress. Based on the presented results, one can surmise that also the expression of the three sulfurtransferases depends on heavy metal ions and/or some parameters of oxidative stress, what can explain the increase of the activity of MPST and CST in the kidney.
