The similarity of gas discharge in low-pressure argon gaps between two plane-parallel electrodes was investigated by experiments,numerical simulations and theoretical analysis.It was found by the experiments that the breakdown voltages depend not only on the product of gas pressure and gap length,but also on the aspect ratio of the gap,i.e.U_(b)=f(pd,d/r).It was theoretically proved that U_(b)=f(pd,d/r)is also a special case,the non-uniform electric field between plane-parallel electrodes,of similarity theorem of gas discharge.It was found by the experiments that there exist similar glow discharges only in two gaps with a limited scaled-down factor k.By theoretical analysis,it was explained that the forbidden processes such as the stepwise ionisation and the inelastic collision of the second kind violate the similarity of discharge as k increases,which was verified by the numerical simulations of the discharges with or without these two forbidden processes taken into account.

Graphene oxide(GO)exhibits good mechanical and physicochemical characteristics and has extensive application prospects in bone tissue engineering.However,its effect on angiogenesis is unclear,and its potential toxic effects are heavily disputed.Herein,we found that nanographene oxide(NGO)synthesized by one-step water electrolytic oxidation is smaller and shows superior biocompatibility.Moreover,NGO significantly enhanced angiogenesis in calvarial bone defect areas in vivo,providing a good microenvironment for bone regeneration.Endothelial tip cell differentiation is an important step in the initiation of angiogenesis.We verified that NGO activates endothelial tip cells by coupling with lysophosphatidic acid(LPA)in serum via strong hydrogen bonding interactions,which has not been reported.In addition,the mechanism by which NGO promotes angiogenesis was systematically studied.NGO-coupled LPA activates LPAR6 and facilitates the formation of migratory tip cells via Hippo/Yes-associated protein(YAP)independent of reactive oxygen species(ROS)stimulation or additional complex modifications.These results provide an effective strategy for the application of electrochemically derived NGO and more insight into NGO-mediated angiogenesis.

In this work,the air dielectric barrier discharge plasma was applied to a model of protein human serum albumin to explore plasma‐mediated protein damage from a biomolecular perspective.Carbonylation and side chain modifications of protein in solution were observed by Fourier transform infrared(FT‐IR)spectroscopy and mass spectrometry(MS).Protein backbone cleavage is proved by Bradford assay,sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis,and MS.Typical fragments are in the range of 10–12 kDa.The decrease inα‐helix and increase inβ‐sheet indicated by FT‐IR are major protein secondary structure changes.Accordingly,a whole map of protein oxidative damage and structural changes in response to the plasma was postulated.

Concentrated growth factor(CGF)is a promising regenerative material that serves as a scaffold and adjunct growth factor for tissue engineering.The host immune response,particularly macrophage activity,plays a critical role in injury repair and tissue regeneration.However,the biological effect of CGF on the immune response is not clear.To enrich the theoretical groundwork for clinical application,the present study examined the immunoregulatory role of CGF in macrophage functional activities in vitro.The CGF scaffold appeared as a dense fibrin network with multiple embedded leukocytes and platelets,and it was biocompatible with macrophages.Concentrated bioactive factors in the CGF extract enhanced THP-1 monocyte recruitment and promoted the maturation of suspended monocytes into adherent macrophages.CGF extract also promoted THP-1 macrophage polarization toward the M2 phenotype with upregulated CD163 expression,as detected by cell morphology and surface marker expression.A cytokine antibody array showed that CGF extract exerted a regulatory effect on macrophage functional activities by reducing secretion of the inflammatory factor interleukin-1b while inducing expression of the chemokine regulated on activation,normal T cell expressed and secreted.Mechanistically,the AKT signaling pathway was activated,and an AKT inhibitor partially suppressed the immunomodulatory effect of CGF.Our findings reveal that CGF induces a favorable immune response mediated by macrophages,which represents a promising strategy for functional tissue regeneration.

An Efficient Sleep Spindle Detection Algorithm Based on MP and LSBoost

Sleep spindles are an electroencephalogram(EEG)biomarker of non-rapid eye movement(NREM)sleep and have important implications for clinical diagnosis and prognosis.However,it is challenging to accurately detect sleep spindles due to the complexity of the human brain and the uncertainty of neural mechanisms.To improve the reliability and objectivity of sleep spindle detection and to compensate for the limitations of manual annotation,this study proposes a new automatic detection algorithm based on Matching Pursuit(MP)and Least Squares Boosting(LSBoost),where the automatic sleep spindle detection algorithm can help reduce the visual annotation workload of sleep clinicians.Specifically,MP is a time-frequency analysis method suitable for extracting spindle wave characteristics,which can accurately locate spindle waves on a time-frequency plane.LSBoost is an ensemble learning classification method to deal with unbalanced data.Initially,theMP method is used to search for EEG segments that are possible spindle waves from the filtered raw EEG data.Then,the designed feature segments are thrown into the LSBoost classifier to further identify the real spindles from all candidates and output the final results.The proposed method is verified on the common public dataset DREAMS.The experiment results showthat the sensitivity and F1-scores based on the sample-based assessments achieve 68.2% and 55.4%,respectively.Furthermore,the Recall and F1-score based on the event assessments are 83.8% and 70.8%,respectively.These results show that the proposed algorithm is robust to the subject changes in the DREAMS dataset.In addition,it improves the quality of sleep spindle detection,which is expected to assist the manual marking of experts.

A Study of Methods to Identify Industry-University-Research Institution Cooperation Partners based on Innovation Chain Theory

Purpose： This study aims at identifying potential industry-university-research collaboration（IURC） partners effectively and analyzes the conditions and dynamics in the IURC process based on innovation chain theory.Design/methodology/approach： The method utilizes multisource data, combining bibliometric and econometrics analyses to capture the core network of the existing collaboration networks and institution competitiveness in the innovation chain. Furthermore, a new identification method is constructed that takes into account the law of scientific research cooperation and economic factors.Findings： Empirical analysis of the genetic engineering vaccine field shows that through the distribution characteristics of creative technologies from different institutions, the analysis based on the innovation chain can identify the more complementary capacities among organizations.Research limitations： In this study, the overall approach is shaped by the theoretical concept of an innovation chain, a linear innovation model with specific types or stages of innovation activities in each phase of the chain, and may, thus, overlook important feedback mechanisms in the innovation process.Practical implications： Industry-university-research institution collaborations are extremely important in promoting the dissemination of innovative knowledge, enhancing the quality of innovation products, and facilitating the transformation of scientific achievements.Originality/value： Compared to previous studies, this study emulates the real conditions of IURC. Thus, the rule of technological innovation can be better revealed, the potential partners of IURC can be identified more readily, and the conclusion has more value.

Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is characterized by fast growth,high metastasis,high invasion,and a lack of therapeutic targets.Mitosis and metastasis of TNBC cells are two important biological behaviors in TNBC malignant progression.It is well known that the long noncoding RNA AFAP1-AS1 plays a crucial role in various tumors,but whether AFAP1-AS1 is involved in the mitosis of TNBC cells remains unknown.In this study,we investigated the functional mechanism of AFAP1-AS1 in targeting Polo-like Kinase 1(PLK1)activation and participating in mitosis of TNBC cells.We detected the expression of AFAP1-AS1 in the TNBC patient cohort and primary cells by in situ hybridization(ISH),northern blot,fluorescent in situ hybridization(FISH)and cell nucleus/cytoplasm RNA fraction isolation.High AFAP1-AS1 expression was negatively correlated with overall survival(OS),disease-free survival(DFS),metastasis-free survival(MFS)and recurrence-free survival(RFS)in TNBC patients.We explored the function of AFAP1-AS1 by transwell,apoptosis,immunofluorescence(IF)and patient-derived xenograft(PDX)models in vitro and in vivo.We found that AFAP1-AS1 promoted TNBC primary cell survival by inhibiting mitotic catastrophe and increased TNBC primary cell growth,migration and invasion.Mechanistically,AFAP1-AS1 activated phosphorylation of the mitosis-associated kinase PLK1 protein.Elevated levels of AFAP1-AS1 in TNBC primary cells increased PLK1 pathway downstream gene expression,such as CDC25C,CDK1,BUB1 and TTK.More importantly,AFAP1-AS1 increased lung metastases in a mouse metastasis model.Taken together,AFAP1-AS1 functions as an oncogene that activates the PLK1 signaling pathway.AFAP1-AS1 could be used as a potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target for TNBC.
