Incidence,prevalence,and causes of spinal injuries in China,1990-2019:Findings from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Background:Spinal injuries are an urgent public health priority;nevertheless,no China-wide studies of these injuries exist.This study measured the incidence,prevalence,causes,regional distribution,and annual trends of spinal injuries in China from 1990 to 2019.Methods:We used data from the Global Burden of Diseases,Injuries,and Risk Factors Study 2019 to estimate the incidence and prevalence of spinal injuries in China.The data of 33 provincial-level administrative regions(excluding Taiwan,China)provided by the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention,Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)were use to systematically analyze the provincial etiology,geographical distribution,and annual trends of spinal injuries.The Bayesian meta-regression tool DisMod-MR 2.1 was used to ensure the consistency among incidence,prevalence,and mortality rates in each case.Results:From 1990 to 2019,the number of living patients with spinal injuries in China increased by 138.32%,from 2.14 million to 5.10 million,while the corresponding age-standardized prevalence increased from 0.20%(95%uncertainty interval[UI]:0.18-0.21%)to 0.27%(95%UI:0.26-0.29%).The incidence of spinal injuries in China increased by 89.91%(95%UI:72.39-107.66%),and the prevalence increased by 98.20%(95%UI:89.56-106.82%),both the most significant increases among the G20 countries;71.00%of the increase could be explained by age-specific prevalence.In 2019,the incidence was 16.47(95%UI:12.08-22.00,per 100,000 population),and the prevalence was 358.30(95%UI:333.96-386.62,per 100,000 population).Based on the data of 33 provincial-level administrative regions provided by CDC,age-standardized incidence and prevalence were both highest in developed provinces in Eastern China.The primary causes were falls and road injuries;however,the prevalence and specific causes differed across provinces.Conclusions:In China,the overall disease burden of spinal injuries increased significantly during the past three decades but varied consi

Controllable shaping of high-index dielectric nanoparticles by exploiting the giant optical force of femtosecond laser pulses

Nanoparticles made of different materials usually support optical resonances in the visible to near infrared spectral range,such as the localized surface plasmons observed in metallic nanoparticles and the Mie resonances observed in dielectric ones.Such optical resonances,which are important for practical applications,depend strongly on the morphologies of nanoparticles.Laser irradiation is a simple but effective way to modify such optical resonances through the change in the morphology of a nanoparticle.Although laser-induced shaping of metallic nanoparticles has been successfully demonstrated,it remains a big challenge for dielectric nanoparticles due to their larger Young’s modulus and smaller thermal conductivities.Here,we proposed and demonstrated a strategy for realizing controllable shaping of high-index dielectric nanoparticles by exploiting the giant optical force induced by femtosecond laser pulses.It was found that both Si and Ge nanoparticles can be lit up by resonantly exciting the optical resonances with femtosecond laser pulses,leading to the luminescence burst when the laser power exceeds a threshold.In addition,the morphologies of Si and Ge nanoparticles can be modified by utilizing the giant absorption force exerted on them and the reduced Young’s modulus at high temperatures.The shape transformation from sphere to ellipsoid can be realized by laser irradiation,leading to the blueshifts of the optical resonances.It was found that Si and Ge nanoparticles were generally elongated along the direction parallel to the polarization of the laser light.Controllable shaping of Si and Ge can be achieved by deliberately adjusting the excitation wavelength and the laser power.Our findings are helpful for understanding the giant absorption force of femtosecond laser light and are useful for designing nanoscale photonic devices based on shaped highindex nanoparticles.

Event-triggered and consensus-based attitude tracking alignment for discrete-time multiple spacecraft system exploiting interference

This paper presents a discrete-time attitude control strategy with equi-global practical stabilizability for aligning the attitude of multiple spacecraft to a predesigned configuration according to a time-variant reference.By utilizing the interference of the wireless channel,the communication scheme designed in this paper can save communication resources,amount of computation,and energy proportionally to the number of spacecraft.The exact discrete-time model and approximate discrete-time model of the consensus-based spacecraft tracking system are given.Then the framework for the design of an event-triggered control scheme for the exact discrete-time system via its approximate models is developed,which avoids the periodic actuation,and Zeno behavior is proved to be excluded.Furthermore,the control scheme can handle the presence of the unknown fading channel.Finally,simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the control strategy.

TERC suppresses PD-L1 expression by downregulating RNA binding protein HuR

TERC is the RNA component of telomerase,and provides a template for TERT to synthesize telomere repeats at chromosome ends.Increasing evidence has revealed that TERC is involved in other biological processes beyond telomerase.Here,we found that the expression level of TERC is negatively correlated with PD-L1 and that ectopic expression of TERC but not TERT in ALT cells significantly inhibits PD-L1,suggesting that TERC suppresses PD-L1 expression in a telomerase-independent manner.Mechanistically,instead of regulating PD-L1 m RNA directly,TERC accelerates PD-L1 m RNA degradation by inhibiting the expression of Hu R,which binds to the 3′UTR of PD-L1 m RNA and maintains its stability.We also found that the small molecule AS1842856,a Fox O1 inhibitor,promotes TERC expression and reverses the PD-L1 upregulation caused by chemotherapy,providing a potential combination cancer therapy that avoids cancer immune escape during chemotherapy.

Peak Shaving Strategy of Concentrating Solar Power Generation Based on Multi-Time-Scale and Considering Demand Response

According to the multi-time-scale characteristics of power generation and demand-side response(DR)resources,as well as the improvement of prediction accuracy along with the approaching operating point,a rolling peak shaving optimization model consisting of three different time scales has been proposed.The proposed peak shaving optimization model considers not only the generation resources of two different response speeds but also the two different DR resources and determines each unit combination,generation power,and demand response strategy on different time scales so as to participate in the peaking of the power system by taking full advantage of the fast response characteristics of the concentrating solar power(CSP).At the same time,in order to improve the accuracy of the scheduling results,the combination of the day-ahead peak shaving phase with scenario-based stochastic programming can further reduce the influence of wind power prediction errors on scheduling results.The testing results have shown that by optimizing the allocation of scheduling resources in each phase,it can effectively reduce the number of starts and stops of thermal power units and improve the economic efficiency of system operation.The spinning reserve capacity is reduced,and the effectiveness of the peak shaving strategy is verified.

Aging Mechanism and Life Estimation of Photovoltaic Inverter DC-link Capacitors in Alternating Humid and Thermal Environment

DC-link capacitors play a vital role in managing ripple voltage and current in converters and various devices.This study focuses on exploring the aging characteristics of DC-link capacitors in alternating humid and thermal environments aligned with the operational conditions in photovoltaic and wind power applications.Adhering to relevant power equipment standards,we designed a 24-h alternating humid and thermal aging environment tailored to the requirements of DC-link capacitors.An aging test platform is established,and 20 widely used metallized polypropylene film capacitors are selected for evaluation.Parameters such as the capacitance,equivalent series resistance(ESR),and phase angle are assessed during aging,as well as the onset time and extent of aging at various intervals.This study focuses on the aging mechanisms,analyzing electrode corrosion,the self-healing process,and dielectric aging.Fitting the aging characteristics enabled us to calculate the lifespan of the capacitor and predict it under different degrees of capacitance decay.The results show that under alternating humid and thermal conditions,capacitance attenuation and ESR increase exhibit exponential nonlinearity,influenced by factors such as the oxidation and self-healing of capacitive metal electrodes,dielectric main-chain fracture,and crystal transformation.This study underscores the pivotal role of encapsulation in determining the aging decay time.

Visual Analysis of Domestic and Foreign Building Brick Skin Research Based on Citespace

With the progress of the times and the leap of science and technology,the application of brick materials and the research on the brick skin in modern architectural design have shown a dual-track development trend of returning to tradition and innovation.Based on the core collection database resources of Web of Science and the CiteSpace visual analysis tool,this paper constructed and analyzed the spatio-temporal map of keyword co-occurrence network,cluster structure,mutation phenomenon,time course and regional distribution map of building brick skin research.The study revealed that in recent years,the research on brick materials has spanned the study of single material properties and extensively involved in the broad world of construction,especially in the integration of green energy-saving technology,the innovation of fine construction technology of brick skin,and the frontier exploration of digital technology in brick masonry,which has shown particularly significant research vitality and development potential.

Deep learning of DEM image texture for landform classification in the Shandong area,China

Landforms are an important element of natural geographical environment,and textures are the research basis for the spatial differentiation,evolution features,and analysis rules of the landform.Using the regional difference of texture to describe the spatial distribution pattern of macro landform features is helpful to the landform classification and identification.Digital elevation model(DEM)image texture,which gives full expression to texture difference,is key data source to reflect the surface features and landform classification.Following the texture analysis,landform features analysis is assistant to different landforms classification,even in landform boundary.With the increasing accuracy requirement of landform information acquisition in geomorphic thematic mapping,hierarchical landform classification has become the focus and difficulty in research.Recently,the pattern recognition represented by Convolutional Neural Network has made great achievements in landform research,whose multichannel feature fusion structure satisfies the network structure of different landform classification.In this paper,DEM image texture was taken as the data source,and gray level co-occurrence matrix was applied to extract texture measures.Owing to the similarity of similar landform and the difference of different landform in a certain scale,a comprehensive texture factor reflecting landform features was proposed,and the spatial distribution pattern of landform features was systematically analyzed.On this basis,the coupling relationship between texture and landform type was explored.Thus,the deep learning method of Convolutional Neural Network is used to train the texture features,and the second-class landform classification is carried out through softmax.The classification results in small relief and mid-relief low mountains,overall accuracy are 84.35%and 69.95%respectively,while kappa coefficient are 0.72 and 0.40 respectively,were compared to that of traditional unsupervised landform classification results,and the superiority o

The influence of wing morphology upon intraspecific divergence in birds: A global study of subspecies richness

Since the time of Darwin,subspecies have been recognized as an initial stage in the evolution of species.However,the impact of dispersal on subspecies richness in birds globally has received little attention,despite dispersal being a key factor in determining the rate of evolution and playing a significant role in evolutionary divergence.Therefore,it is important to conduct a comprehensive study to address this issue.In this study,we aimed to assess the association between subspecies richness(measured by the number of subspecies)and dispersal ability(measured by the hand-wing index)on a global scale,using a dataset of over 7000 bird species.Our results revealed a negative correlation between dispersal ability and the number of subspecies,without any quadratic correlation.The wing is a crucial phenotypic trait for birds,and the concept of subspecies is important in speciation theory and conservation biology.Therefore,our findings not only enhance our understanding of the association between avian morphological traits and evolutionary divergence but also have implications for the conservation of avian species diversity.

Background:Visceral adipose tissue-derived serine protease inhibitor(vaspin),a secretory adipokine,protects against insulin resistance.Recent studies have demonstrated that serum vaspin levels are decreased in patients with coronary artery disease and that vaspin protects against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and atherosclerosis.However,it remains unclear whether vaspin exerts specific effects on pathological cardiac hypertrophy.Methods:An in vivo study was conducted using a cardiac hypertrophy model established by subcutaneous injection of isoproterenol(ISO)in C57BL/6 and vaspin-ko mice.Rapamycin was administered intraperitoneally to mice,for further study.H9c2 cells and neonatal rat ventricular myocytes(NRVMs)were treated with ISO to induce hypertrophy.Human vaspin fusion protein,the proteasome inhibitor MG132,and chloroquine diphosphate were used for further mechanistic studies.Results:Here,we provide the first evidence that vaspin knockdown results in markedly exaggerated cardiac hypertrophy,fibrosis,and cardiomyocyte senescence in mice treated with ISO.Conversely,the administration of exogenous recombinant human vaspin protected NRVMs in vitro against ISO-induced hypertrophy and senescence.Furthermore,vaspin significantly potentiated the ISO-induced decrease in autophagy.Both rapamycin and chloroquine diphosphate regulated autophagy in vivo and in vitro,respectively,and participated in vaspin-mediated cardioprotection.Moreover,the PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway plays a critical role in vaspin-mediated autophagy in cardiac tissues and NRVMs.Our data showed that vaspin downregulated the p85 and p110 subunits of PI3K by linking p85 and p110 to NEDD4L-mediated ubiquitination degradation.Conclusion:Our results show,for the first time,that vaspin functions as a critical regulator that alleviates pathological cardiac hypertrophy by regulating autophagy-dependent myocardial senescence,providing potential preventive and therapeutic targets for pathological cardiac hypertrophy.
