Polarizable Additive with Intermediate Chelation Strength for Stable Aqueous Zinc‑Ion Batteries

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are promising due to inherent safety,low cost,low toxicity,and high volumetric capacity.However,issues of dendrites and side reactions between zinc metal anode and the electrolyte need to be solved for extended storage and cycle life.Here,we proposed that an electrolyte additive with an intermediate chelation strength of zinc ion—strong enough to exclude water molecules from the zinc metal-electrolyte interface and not too strong to cause a significant energy barrier for zinc ion dissociation—can benefit the electrochemical stability by suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction,overpotential growth,and den-drite formation.Penta-sodium diethylene-triaminepentaacetic acid salt was selected for such a purpose.It has a suitable chelating ability in aqueous solutions to adjust solvation sheath and can be readily polarized under electrical loading conditions to further improve the passivation.Zn||Zn symmetric cells can be stably operated over 3500 h at 1 mA cm^(-2).Zn||NH4V4O10 full cells with the additive show great cycling stability with 84.6%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 1 A g^(-1).Since the additive not only reduces H2 evolution and corrosion but also modifies Zn2+diffusion and deposition,highlyreversible Zn electrodes can be achieved as verified by the experimental results.Our work offers a practical approach to the logical design of reliable electrolytes for high-performance aqueous batteries.

Optical computing has shown immense application prospects in the post-Moore era.However,as a crucial component of logic computing,the digital multiplier can only be realized on a small scale in optics,restrained by the limited functionalities and inevitable loss of optical nonlinearity.In this paper,we propose a time-space multiplexed architecture to realize large-scale photonic-electronic digital multiplication.

Association of cardiopulmonary bypass with acute kidney injury in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting:a retrospective cohort study

To the Editor:Acute kidney injury(AKI)is a frequent complication of both cardiac and major non-cardiac surgeries.Cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB)-assisted cardiac surgery was associated with a higher incidence of AKI than other surgeries without CPB,suggesting that CPB might be a risk factor for cardiac surgery-associated AKI(CSA-AKI).[1]However,previous studies have demonstrated conflicting results regarding the association of CPB and CSA-AKI,as the diagnosis of AKI has been made according to different criteria.[2-5]The most recent definition of AKI from an AKI Work Group,Kidney Disease:Improving Global Outcomes(KDIGO),allows for the determination of AKI based on a decline in the glomerular filtration rate(GFR)with subsequent increase in serum creatinine or a period of oliguria.[6]We performed a retrospective cohort study to evaluate the association of CPB and postoperative AKI,using the KDIGO definition among patients undergoing on-pump or off-pump coronary artery bypass graft(CABG).

High Power GaN Doubler with High Duty Cycle Pulse Based on Local Non-Reflection Design

The study focuses on the development of gallium nitride(GaN) Schottky barrier diode(SBD) frequency doublers for terahertz technology. The low conversion efficiency of these doublers limits their practical applications. To address this challenge, the paper proposes a multi-objective local no-reflection design method based on a three-dimensional electromagnetic structure. The method aims to improve the coupling efficiency of input power and reduce the reflection of power output. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method significantly improves the performance of GaN SBD frequency doublers, achieving an efficiency of 16.9% and a peak output power of 160m W at 175 GHz. These results suggest that the method can contribute to the further development of GaN SBD frequency doublers for terahertz technology.

Changes in early postoperative outcomes and complications observed in a single center during the 2022 COVID-19 pandemic wave in China:A single-center ambispective cohort study

Background:Currently,the effect of the 2022 nationwide coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)wave on the perioperative prognosis of surgical patients in China is unclear.Thus,we aimed to explore its influence on postoperative morbidity and mortality in surgical patients.Methods:An ambispective cohort study was conducted at Xijing Hospital,China.We collected 10-day time-series data from December 29 until January 7 for the 2018-2022 period.The primary outcome was major postoperative complications(Clavien-Dindo class III-V).The association between COVID-19 exposure and postoperative prognosis was explored by comparing consecutive 5-year data at the population level and by comparing patients with and without COVID-19 exposure at the patient level.Results:The entire cohort consisted of 3350 patients(age:48.5±19.2 years),including 1759 females(52.5%).Overall,961(28.7%)underwent emergency surgery,and 553(16.5%)had COVID-19 exposure(from the 2022 cohort).At the population level,major postoperative complications occurred in 5.9%(42/707),5.7%(53/935),5.1%(46/901),9.4%(11/117),and 22.0%(152/690)patients in the 2018-2022 cohorts,respectively.After adjusting for potential confounding factors,the 2022 cohort(80%patients with COVID-19 history)had a significantly higher postoperative major complication risk than did the 2018 cohort(adjusted risk difference[aRD],14.9%(95%confidence interval[CI],11.5-18.4%);adjusted odds ratio[aOR],8.19(95%CI,5.24-12.81)).At the patient level,the incidence of major postoperative complications was significantly greater in patients with(24.6%,136/553)than that in patients without COVID-19 history(6.0%[168/2797];aRD,17.8%[95%CI,13.6-22.1%];aOR,7.89[95%CI,5.76-10.83]).Secondary outcomes of postoperative pulmonary complications were consistent with primary findings.These findings were verified through sensitivity analyses using time-series data projections and propensity score matching.Conclusion:Based on a single-center observation,patients with recent COVID-19 exposure were likely to have a high incidenc

Estrogen Receptor-A in Medial Preoptic Area Contributes to Sex Difference of Mice in Response to Sevoflurane Anesthesia

A growing number of studies have identified sex differences in response to general anesthesia;however,the underlying neural mechanisms are unclear.The medial preoptic area(MPA),an important sexually dimorphic structure and a critical hub for regulating consciousness transition,is enriched with estrogen receptor alpha(ERa),particularly in neuronal clusters that participate in regulating sleep.We found that male mice were more sensitive to sevoflurane.Pharmacological inhibition of ERαin the MPA abolished the sex differences in sevoflurane anesthesia,in particular by extending the induction time and facilitating emergence in males but not in females.Suppression of ERαin vitro inhibited GABAergic and glutamatergic neurons of the MPA in males but not in females.Furthermore,ERα.knockdown in GABAergic neurons of the male MPA was sufficient to eliminate sex differences during sevoflurane anesthesia.Collectively,MPA ERαpositively regulates the activity of MPA GABAergic neurons in males but not in females,which contributes to the sexdifference of mice in sevoflurane anesthesia.

Genomic data serve as an invaluable resource for unraveling the intricacies of the higher plant systems,including the constituent elements within and among species.Through various efforts in genomic data archiving,integrative analysis and value-added curation,the National Genomics Data Center(NGDC),which is a part of the China National Center for Bioinformation(CNCB),has successfully established and currently maintains a vast amount of database resources.This dedicated initiative of the NGDC facilitates a data-rich ecosystem that greatly strengthens and supports genomic research efforts.Here,we present a comprehensive overview of central repositories dedicated to archiving,presenting,and sharing plant omics data,introduce knowledgebases focused on variants or gene-based functional insights,highlight species-specific multiple omics database resources,and briefly review the online application tools.We intend that this review can be used as a guide map for plant researchers wishing to select effective data resources from the NGDC for their specific areas of study.

Enhanced magnetic anisotropy and high hole mobility in magnetic semiconductor Ga_(1-x-y)Fe_(x)Ni_(y)Sb

(Ga,Fe)Sb is a promising magnetic semiconductor(MS)for spintronic applications because its Curie temperature(T_(C))is above 300 K when the Fe concentration is higher than 20%.However,the anisotropy constant Ku of(Ga,Fe)Sb is below 7.6×10^(3)erg/cm^(3)when Fe concentration is lower than 30%,which is one order of magnitude lower than that of(Ga,Mn)As.To address this issue,we grew Ga_(1-x-y)Fe_(x)Ni_(y)Sb films with almost the same x(≈24%)and different y to characterize their magnetic and electrical transport properties.We found that the magnetic anisotropy of Ga_(0.76-y)Fe_(0.24)Ni_(y)Sb can be enhanced by increasing y,in which Ku is negligible at y=1.7%but increases to 3.8×10^(5)erg/cm^(3)at y=6.1%(T_(C)=354 K).In addition,the hole mobility(μ)of Ga_(1-x-y)Fe_(x)Ni_(y)Sb reaches 31.3 cm^(2)/(V∙s)at x=23.7%,y=1.7%(T_(C)=319 K),which is much higher than the mobility of Ga_(1-x)Fe_(x)Sb at x=25.2%(μ=6.2 cm^(2)/(V∙s)).Our results provide useful information for enhancing the magnetic anisotropy and hole mobility of(Ga,Fe)Sb by using Ni co-doping.

Tree plantations are an important forest resource that substantively contributes to climate change mitigation and carbon sequestration. As the area and standing volume of tree plantations in China have increased, issues such as unreasonable structure, low productivity, limited ecological functionality and diminishing ecological stability have occurred, which hinder the ability of tree plantations to enhance carbon sequestration. This study outlined the trajectory of carbon sequestration and its associated benefits in tree plantations by examining the current state of tree plantation establishment and growth, elucidated the strategies for advantages of carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation in planted forests, and summarized the existing problems with tree plantations. This paper underscores the pressing need for concerted efforts to boost carbon sequestration within planted forests and proposes management and development strategies for Chinese tree plantations. In the future, it will be necessary to apply scientific theories to practice and develop multi-objective management optimization models for the high-quality development of tree plantations. This will involve establishing a cohesive national carbon trading market, improving the prediction of carbon sequestration, and identifying priority zones for afforestation and reforestation, to better serve China's national strategy for achieving peak carbon and carbon neutrality.

A Comprehensive Evaluation of User Satisfaction with Industrial Heritage Reuse and the Optimization Strategies:Taking Zhonglian U Valley 2.5 Creative Industrial Park as an Example

The industrial heritage creative industrial park in Qingdao,which has been renovated and put to use,was selected as the research subject.Based on the data collected via the questionnaire survey and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation,the hierarchical analysis method was used to calculate the weights of indicators at each level and construct a comprehensive satisfaction evaluation model,aiming to ensure a comprehensive satisfaction evaluation and analysis of the use effect of industrial heritage following renovation and utilization.Based on the evaluation results,the existing problems in the renovation and reuse of industrial heritage in Qingdao were analyzed,and subsequently corresponding optimization strategies were proposed.
