In-situ additive manufacturing of high strength yet ductility titanium composites with gradient layered structure using N_(2)

It has always been challenging work to reconcile the contradiction between the strength and plasticity of titanium *** powder bed fusion(LPBF) is a convenient method to fabricate innovative composites including those inspired by gradient layered *** this work,we used LPBF to selectively prepare Ti N/Ti gradient layered structure(GLSTi)composites by using different N_(2)–Ar ratios during the LPBF *** systematically investigated the mechanisms of in-situ synthesis Ti N,high strength and ductility of GLSTi composites using microscopic analysis,TEM characterization,and tensile testing with digital image ***,a digital correspondence was established between the N_(2) concentration and the volume fraction of LPBF in-situ synthesized Ti *** results show that the GLSTi composites exhibit superior mechanical properties compared to pure titanium fabricated by LPBF under pure ***,the tensile strength of GLSTi was more than 1.5times higher than that of LPBF-formed pure titanium,reaching up to 1100 MPa,while maintaining a high elongation at fracture of 17%.GLSTi breaks the bottleneck of high strength but low ductility exhibited by conventional nanoceramic particle-strengthened titanium matrix composites,and the hetero-deformation induced strengthening effect formed by the Ti N/Ti layered structure explained its strength-plasticity balanced *** microhardness exhibits a jagged variation of the relatively low hardness of 245 HV0.2 for the pure titanium layer and a high hardness of 408 HV0.2 for the N_(2) in-situ synthesis *** study provides a new concept for the structure-performance digital customization of 3D-printed Ti-based composites.

Single-atom catalysts with precise structure and tunable coordination nature provide opportunities for developing novel catalytic centers and understanding reaction ***,hollow Co_(9)S_(8)polyhedrons with lattice-confined Ru single atoms(Ru-Co_(9)S_(8))are ***-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy verify the isolated Ru atoms are confined in Co_(9)S_(8)to form Co-S-Ru catalytic *** calculations indicate that the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)energy barriers are extensively reduced,the d-band center of Co_(9)S_(8)downshifts from the Fermi level,therefore boosting the desorption of O-containing ***,the Ru-Co_(9)S_(8)exhibits an ultralow overpotential of 163 mV at 10 mA·cm^(−2)for OER and could catalyze a rechargeable Zn-air battery with a high-power density of 92.0 mW·cm^(−2).This work provides a promising approach for designing novel bifunctional catalytic active centers for energy conversion.

E-Shop Transshipment Selection Evaluation Based on Cloud Model

In e-commerce, a critical problem is how to transship the products between different e-shops to lessen the risk of out of stock, especially in network shopping mall of China. Most of importance is how to select the optimal one in the waiting list of e-shops to make the transshipment economical. However, many factors that influence the effect of transshipment are uncertain and fuzzy, such as customer demand, product price and inventory level. Based on the cloud model theory, a novel method for evaluation of e-shop transshipment selection in the same network shopping mall is proposed to solve the problem. The factors that influence the transshipment effect are discussed in detail. An example of selecting the optimal e-shop to transship products to the out of stock e-shop is given on the basis of the steps of our evaluation calculation. Finally, the result shows that it can effectively optimize transshipment in online shopping economically.

Kinetically-Induced Hexagonality in Chemically Grown Silicon Nanowires

Genome Editing and Its Applications in Model Organisms

Technological advances are important for innovative biological research. Development of molecular tools for DNA manipulation, such as zinc finger nucleases （ZFNs）, transcription activator-like effector nucleases （TALENs）, and the clustered regularly-interspaced short palin- dromic repeat （CR1SPR）/CRISPR-associated （Cas）, has revolutionized genome editing. These approaches can be used to develop potential therapeutic strategies to effectively treat heritable dis- eases. In the last few years, substantial progress has been made in CRISPR/Cas technology, includ- ing technical improvements and wide application in many model systems. This review describes recent advancements in gennme editing with a particular focus on CRISPR/Cas, covering the under- lying principles, technological optimization, and its application in zehrafish and other model organ- isms, disease modeling, and gene therapy used for personalized medicine.

Understanding the fate and toxicity of microplastics(MPs,<5 mm plastic particles)is limited by quantification *** paper summarizes the methods in use and presents new ***,sampling and pretreatment processes ofMPs,including sample collection,digestion,density separation,and quality control are *** the promising and convenient staining procedures and quantification methods for MPs using fluorescence dyes are *** factors that influence the staining of MPs,including their physicochemical properties,are summarized to provide an optimal operation *** general,the digestion step is crucial to eliminate natural organic matter(NOM)to avoid interference in *** was reported to be the most appropriate solvent,and 10–20μg/mL are recommended as optimal dye *** addition,a heating and cooling procedure is recommended to maintain the fluorescence intensity of MPs for two *** staining,a fluorescence microscope is usually used to characterize the morphology,mass,or number of MPs,but compositional analysis cannot be determined with *** fluorescence staining methods have been implemented to study MP abundance,transport,and toxicity and have been combined with other chemical characterization techniques,such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman *** studies are needed to focus on the synthesis of novel dyes to avoid NOM’s *** need to be combined with other spectroscopic techniques to characterize plastic composition and to develop image-analysis *** stability of stained MPs needs to be improved.

Data quantity governance for machine learning in materials science

Data-driven machine learning(ML) is widely employed in the analysis of materials structure-activity relationships,performance optimization and materials design due to its superior ability to reveal latent data patterns and make accurate ***,because of the laborious process of materials data acquisition,ML models encounter the issue of the mismatch between a high dimension of feature space and a small sample size(for traditional ML models) or the mismatch between model parameters and sample size(for deep-learning models),usually resulting in terrible ***,we review the efforts for tackling this issue via feature reduction,sample augmentation and specific ML approaches,and show that the balance between the number of samples and features or model parameters should attract great attention during data quantity *** this,we propose a synergistic data quantity governance flow with the incorporation of materials domain *** summarizing the approaches to incorporating materials domain knowledge into the process of ML,we provide examples of incorporating domain knowledge into governance schemes to demonstrate the advantages of the approach and *** work paves the way for obtaining the required high-quality data to accelerate materials design and discovery based on ML.

Organic and inorganic phosphorus uptake by bacteria in a plug-flow microcosm

Phosphorus （P） is a vital nutrient for sustaining natural water productivity. Both particulate and dissolved forms of organic and inorganic P are potentially important sources of bioavailable P for primary and secondary producers. A microcosm system to imitate the bacterial community in Plym river sediment and pore water is described and bacterial uptake rates for inorganic and organic phosphorus are presented in this paper. The aim of this study was to investigate the uptake of two organic phosphorus compounds （phytic acid and D-glucose-6- phosphate） by freshwater bacteria. The bioreactors com- prise glass columns packed with two types of small glass beads on which bacterial biofilm can develop. The glass beads with different porosity were introduced to simulate River SPM. The selected P compounds spiked into the inflow of the microcosm, and measured the step change of P concentration in the outflow to investigate the behavior of bacterial uptake of nutrients. The results showed that organic phosphorus was converted into inorganic phos- phorus but the conversion rate depended on the type of phosphorus species. One experiment suggested that phytic acid （refractory） could displace phosphate from the biofilm surface; the other experiment showed that D-glucose-6- phosphate （labile） could be hydrolysed and utilized easily by the bacteria. The results also suggested that bacteria might break down the C-P bonds to utilize the carbon. Further experiments should investigate the effect of varying the C：N：P ratio in the microcosm system to determine which nutrient limits bacteria uptake.
