Emodin promoted pancreatic claudin-5 and occludin expression in experimental acute pancreatitis rats

Signaling Role of Sucrose Metabolism in Development

In most higher plants, sucrose is the primary organic carbon that is translocated through phloem from photosynthetic leaves （source） into non-photosynthetic tissues （sink） such as seed, fruit, and root. After phloem unloading in sinks, sucrose needs to be degraded into hexoses for diverse use by either invertase （Inv） that hydrolyses sucrose into glucose and fructose or sucrose synthase （Sus） that degrades sucrose into UDPglucose and fructose. By generating hexoses and their derivates, Inv- or Sus-mediated sucrose metabolism and re- lated transport process provide （1） energy source to power cel- lular processes; （2） starting molecules convertible to numerous metabolites and building blocks for synthesizing essential pol- ymers including starch, cellulose, callose, and proteins; and （3） a mechanism to reduce sucrose concentration at the unloading sites to facilitate its source-to-sink translocation, thereby pre- venting feedback inhibition on photosynthesis and sustaining carbon flow at the whole-plant level.

Boosting Seed Development as a New Strategy to Increase Cotton Fiber Yield and Quality

Cotton （Gossypium spp.） is the most important textile crop worldwide due to its cellulosic mature fibers, which are single-celled hairs initiated from the cotton ovule epidermis at anthesis. Research to improve cotton fiber yield and quality in recent years has been largely focused on identifying genes regulating fiber cell initiation, elonga- tion and cellulose synthesis. However, manipulating some of those candidate genes has yielded no effect or only a marginally positive effect on fiber yield or quality. On the other hand, evolutionary comparison and transgenic studies have clearly shown that cotton fiber growth is intimately controlled by seed development. Therefore,I propose that enhancing seed development could be a more effective and achievable strategy to increase fiber yield and quality.

State transfer on two-fold Cayley trees via quantum walks

Perfect state transfer(PST)has great significance due to its applications in quantum information processing and quantum *** main problem we study in this paper is to determine whether the two-fold Cayley tree,an extension of the Cayley tree,admits perfect state transfer between two roots using quantum *** show that PST can be achieved by means of the so-called nonrepeating quantum walk[***.A 89042332(2014)]within time steps that are the distance between the two roots;while both the continuous-time quantum walk and the typical discrete-time quantum walk with Grover coin approaches *** results suggest that in some cases the dynamics of a discrete-time quantum walk may be much richer than that of the continuous-time quantum walk.

Porous organic cages(POCs)with permanent porosity and excellent host–guest property hold great potentials in regulating ion transport behavior,yet their feasibility as solid-state electrolytes has never been testified in a practical ***,we design and fabricate a quasi-solid-state electrolyte(QSSE)based on a POC to enable the stable operation of Li-metal batteries(LMBs).Benefiting from the ordered channels and cavity-induced anion-trapping effect of POC,the resulting POC-based QSSE exhibits a high Li+transference number of 0.67 and a high ionic conductivity of 1.25×10^(−4) S cm^(−1) with a low activation energy of 0.17 *** allow for homogeneous Li deposition and highly reversible Li plating/stripping for over 2000 *** a proof of concept,the LMB assembled with POC-based QSSE demonstrates extremely stable cycling performance with 85%capacity retention after 1000 ***,our work demonstrates the practical applicability of POC as SSEs for LMBs and could be extended to other energy-storage systems,such as Na and K batteries.

Spherical lanthanide nanoclusters toward white-light emission and cell membrane imaging

Lanthanide doping is an effective strategy for modulating the emission of ***,by changing the cluster composition to control the energy transfer pathway,the application potential of high-nuclearity lanthanide cluster(HLC)as white-light emitter has been confirmed for the first ***,by precisely controlling the proportion of GdIII,TbIII,and EuIII ions in reactants,we obtained a spherical heterotrimetallic nanocluster Gd_(10)Tb_(12)Eu_(10),a white-light emitter with quantum yield(QY)of 12.58%and lifetime of 327.14μ***-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(HRESI-MS)demonstrates that homometallic nanoclusters Ln_(32)(Ln=Gd,Tb,and Eu)are tetracationic clusters and are highly stable in *** peripheral dense organic ligands provide a protective layer for the cluster core,which improves the stability of Ln_(32) in aqueous solution,avoids the contact between metal centers and bioactive molecules,and greatly reduces the biological *** cell imaging experiments,cationic clusters Ln_(32) are mainly localized on the cell membrane with negative charge *** far as we know,this is the first time that spherical lanthanide nanoclusters have been used for membrane imaging of living cell,opening the door for the application of HLCs in biological imaging.

Visible region extraction from a sequence of rational Bézier surfaces

A method for computing the visible regions of free-form surfaces is proposed in this paper. Our work is focused on accurately calculating the visible regions of the sequenced rational Bézier surfaces forming a solid model and having coincident edges but no inner-intersection among them. The proposed method calculates the silhouettes of the surfaces without tessellating them into triangle meshes commonly used in previous methods so that arbitrary precision can be obtained. The computed sil- houettes of visible surfaces are projected onto a plane orthogonal to the parallel light. Then their spatial relationship is applied to calculate the boundaries of mutual-occlusion regions. As the connectivity of the surfaces on the solid model is taken into account, a surface clustering technique is also employed and the mutual-occlusion calculation is accelerated. Experimental results showed that our method is efficient and robust, and can also handle complex shapes with arbitrary precision.

Determination of spices in food samples by ionic liquid aqueous solution extraction and ion chromatography

In the present work, a novel method to extract three kinds of spices, namely vanillin, ethyl vanillin and ethyl maltol from food products such as biscuit, chocolate and milk powder was developed. 1-Octyl-3- methylimidazolium chloride （[Omim]Cl） aqueous solution was selected as the extracting medium. A 0.5 g powder of food product was extracted by 5.0 mL of [Omim]Cl aqueous solution （0.3 mol/L, pH 6.0） under ultrasonication at 50 ℃, and then the extract was centrifuged for 10 min at 4000 rpm. The extract was filtered through a syringe filter and injected into ion chromatography system for analysis. The separation of the three spices was carried out on an anion exchange column. The detection wavelength was set at 280 nm. Compared with traditional extraction solvents, [Omim]Cl aqueous solution displayed particular advantages. The applicability of the proposed method to real sample was confirmed. Under the optimal conditions, good reproducibility of extraction performance was obtained, with the relative standard deviation （RSD） values ranging from 1.9% to 6.3%. The recoveries of spiked samples were between ？9.8% and 95.8%. The detection limits （LOD, SIN = 3） of vanillin, ethyl vanillin and ethyl maltol were in the range of 20-45 μg/kg. The use of ionic liquid aqueous solution as extraction solvent was operationally easy and environmental-friendly.

High-stability spherical lanthanide nanoclusters for magnetic resonance imaging

High-nuclear lanthanide clusters have shown great potential for the administration of high-dose mononuclear gadolinium chelates in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). The development of high-nuclear lanthanide clusters with excellent solubility and high stability in water or solution has been challenging and is very important for expanding the performance of MRI. We used N-methylbenzimidazole-2-methanol(HL) and LnCl3·6H2O to synthesize two spherical lanthanide clusters, Ln32(Ln = Ho, Ho32; and Ln =Gd, Gd32), which are highly stable in solution. The 24 ligands L-are all distributed on the periphery of Ln32and tightly wrap the cluster core, ensuring that the cluster is stable. Notably, Ho32can remain highly stable when bombarded with different ion source energies in HRESI-MS or immersed in an aqueous solution of different pH values for 24 h. The possible formation mechanism of Ho32was proposed to be Ho(Ⅲ),(L)-and H2O → Ho3(L)3/Ho3(L)4→ Ho4(L)4/Ho4(L)5→ Ho6(L)6/Ho6(L)7→ Ho16(L)19→Ho28(L)15→ Ho32(L)24/Ho32(L)21/Ho32(L)23. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of the assembly mechanism of spherical high-nuclear lanthanide clusters. Spherical cluster Gd32, a form of highly aggregated Gd(Ⅲ), exhibits a high longitudinal relaxation rate(1 T, r1= 265.87 mM-1·s-1). More notably, compared with the clinically used commercial material Gd-DTPA, Gd32has a clearer and higher-contrast T1-weighted MRI effect in mice bearing 4T1 tumors. This is the first time that high-nuclear lanthanide clusters with high water stability have been utilized for MRI. High-nuclear Gd clusters containing highly aggregated Gd(Ⅲ) at the molecular level have higher imaging contrast than traditional Gd chelates; thus, using large doses of traditional gadolinium contrast agents can be avoided.
