A pilot study of the effect of pressure-driven lidocaine spray on airway topical anesthesia for conscious sedation intubation

Background Difficult airway remains not only a challenge to the anesthesiologists, but also a life-threatening event to the patients. Awake intubation is the principal choice to deal with difficult airway, and a key point for awake intubation is airway topical anesthesia. Yet, so far there is no ideal topical anesthesia approach for awake intubation. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of pressure-driven （by 10 L/min oxygen flow） lidocaine spray on airway topical anesthesia in order to find a powerful and convenient method for airway topical anesthesia for conscious sedation intubation. Methods Thirty adult patients referred for elective surgery under general anesthesia, aged 18-60 years and Mallampati class I or II, were recruited for the study. Before topical anesthesia, the observer＇s assessment of alert and sedation （OAA/S） scale was controlled between 3 and 4 by intravenous midazolam （0.03 mg/kg）, propofol （2 ***.h＂1） and remifentanil （0.05 ***1）. Ten minutes after sedation, topical anesthesia was performed with the pressure-driven lidocaine spray; the driving pressure was achieved by an oxygen flow of 10 L/min. After topical anesthesia, tracheal intubation was performed and the intubation condition was assessed with modified the Erhan＇s intubation condition score by an experienced anesthesiologist, and a score of less than 10 was considered to be satisfactory. Attempts to intubate the patient were recorded, and the complications such as local anesthetic toxicity, mucosa injury, and respiration depression were also recorded. The mean arterial blood pressure （MAP）, heart rate （HR） and pulse oxygen saturation （SpO2） were recorded at different time points before and after intubation. Patients were asked 24 hours after the operation whether they could recall the events during intubation. Formaldehyde is a common atmospheric pollutant produced in industrial production and daily ***,the traditional semiconductor formaldehyde gas sensor cannot work at room temperature,which limits its practical ***,developing high-performance gas sensors for rapidly and accurately detecting formaldehyde at room temperature is an important *** this study,Ti_(3)C_(2)Tx/SnO_(2)heterostructures were constructed,which could selectively detect formaldehyde at room temperature with a response value of 29.16%(10×10^(-6)).In addition,the sensor shows a remarkable theoretical detection limit of 5.09×10^(-9)and good longterm *** functional theory(DFT)simulations reveal that SnO_(2)nano spheres provide the majority of adsorption sites that strongly interact with ***,Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)acting as a conductive layer facilitates the transfer of charge carriers so that they show a sensing response to formaldehyde at room ***,the formation of p-n heterostructures between SnO_(2)and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)boosts the Schottky barrier at the interface,which is the critical factor in enhancing the sensing properties by turning the Schottky barrier upon introducing formaldehyde *** perspective is expected to provide instructive guidance for utilizing MXene/metal oxide nanocomposites to improve the gas sensing performance at room temperature.

Mechanism and control of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel during cooling process after hot rolling

Apparent Molar Volumes and Solvation Coefficients in Ternary-pseudo-binary Mixtures [(Styrene+Ethyl Acetate or Benzene)+(N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone+Ethyl Acetate or Benzene)]

Over the full range of compositions, in the ternary-pseudo-binary mixtures of x[（1-y）C6H5CH=CH2＋ yCH3COOC2H5（or C6H6）]＋（1-x）[（1-y）NMP＋yCH3COOC2Hs（or C6H6）], the apparent molar volumes of each pseudo-pure component at different y values were calculated from the density data at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The results show that the four parameters cubic polynomial can correlate the apparent molar volume with the molar fraction well over the full molar fraction range. The limiting partial molar volumes and the molar volumes of each pseudo-pure component were evaluated with different methods. Based on the limiting partial molar volume and molar volume at a certain y value, a new universal coefficient termed as solvation coefficient γ was defined to describe quantitatively the solvation degree of pseudo-pure solute and the interactions of solute-solvent molecules from the macroscopical thermodynamics viewpoint. The results demonstrate the solvation coefficients decrease with the amount of the third component increasing for each pseudo-pure solute, irrespective of the pseudo-pure solvent. Then the solvation degrees of each pseudo-pure component, the specific interactions between the solute molecule and the solvent one were discussed in terms of the solvation coefficient.

Laplacian sparse dictionary learning for image classification based on sparse representation

Sparse representation is a mathematical model for data representation that has proved to be a powerful tool for solving problems in various fields such as pattern recognition, machine learning, and computer vision. As one of the building blocks of the sparse representation method, dictionary learning plays an important role in the minimization of the reconstruction error between the original signal and its sparse representation in the space of the learned dictionary. Although using training samples directly as dictionary bases can achieve good performance, the main drawback of this method is that it may result in a very large and inef- ficient dictionary due to noisy training instances. To obtain a smaller and more representative dictionary, in this paper, we propose an approach called Laplacian sparse dictionary （LSD） learning. Our method is based on manifold learning and double sparsity. We incorporate the Laplacian weighted graph in the sparse representation model and impose the 11-norm sparsity on the dictionary. An LSD is a sparse overcomplete dictionary that can preserve the intrinsic structure of the data and learn a smaller dictionary for each class. The learned LSD can be easily integrated into a classification framework based on sparse representation. We compare the proposed method with other methods using three benchmark-controlled face image databases, Extended Yale B, ORL, and AR, and one uncontrolled person image dataset, i-LIDS-MA. Results show the advantages of the proposed LSD algorithm over state-of-the-art sparse representation based classification methods.

A high open-circuit voltage betavoltaic microbattery based on a GaN p-i-n diode is *** the irradiation of a 4×4 mm^(2) planar solid 63Ni source with an activity of 2 mCi,the open−circuit voltage Voc of the fabricated single 2×2 mm^(2) cell reaches as high as 1.62 V,the short−circuit current density Jsc is measured to be 16nA/cm^(2).The microbattery has a fill factor of 55%,and the energy conversion efficiency of beta radiation into electricity reaches to 1.13%.The results suggest that GaN is a highly promising potential candidate for long-life betavoltaic microbatteries used as power supplies for microelectromechanical system devices.
