Association between anti-Müllerian hormone concentrations and sperm retrieval outcomes in patients with idiopathic nonobstructive azoospermia:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Microdissection testicular sperm extraction(mTESE)is commonly performed to retrieve sperm in the testes for assisted reproductive techniques in patients with idiopathic nonobstructive azoospermia(iNOA).However,the success rate of sperm retrieval varies among *** aim to investigate the association between clinical parameters and sperm retrieval outcomes in patients with *** searched PubMed,EMBASE,and Web of Science from database inception to August 2,*** main measure was whether sperm retrieval was successful in patients with iNOA who underwent *** estimates of the sperm retrieval rate and weighted mean differences were calculated using random-effects *** overall sperm retrieval rate was 36.8%(95%confidence interval[CI]:27.5%-46.0%,I 2=95.0%)in nine studies comprising 1892 patients with *** significant differences were found in age,testicular volume,serum total testosterone concentrations,or inhibin B concentrations between positive and negative sperm retrieval *** anti-Müllerian hormone concentrations in patients with iNOA were associated with a positive outcome of mTESE(weighted mean differences:−2.70;95%CI:−3.94-−1.46,I 2=79.0%).In conclusion,this study shows a significant relationship between anti-Müllerian hormone and sperm retrieval outcomes in patients with iNOA,while age,testicular volume,total testosterone,and inhibin B show no significant *** findings have important implications for assessing the potential success of sperm retrieval and selecting appropriate treatment strategies in patients with iNOA.

We investigated the prognostic importance of noninvasive factors in predicting sperm retrieval failure in idiopathic nonobstructive azoospermia(iNOA).We studied 193 patients with nonobstructive azoospermia who underwent microsurgical testicular sperm *** Chi-square test and Mann–Whitney U tests for clinical parameters and seminiferous tubule distribution were used for between-group comparisons.A logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify predictors of retrieval *** under the receiver operating characteristic curve for each variable was evaluated,and the net clinical benefit was calculated using a clinical decision *** with iNOA had a lower sperm retrieval rate than those with known ***,testicular volume was an independent factor affecting sperm extraction outcomes(odds ratio=0.79,P<0.05).The testicular volume cut-off value was 6.5 ml(area under the curve:0.694).The patients with iNOA were categorized into two groups on the basis of the distribution of seminiferous tubules *** sperm retrieval rate and testicular volume were significantly different between the groups with a uniform or heterogeneous tubule *** was also a significant association between a uniform tubule distribution and testicular *** conclusion,a testicular volume of more than 6.5 ml effectively predicts microsurgical testicular sperm extraction failure due to a uniform tubule distribution in patients with iNOA.

We report a strong antiferromagnetic(AFM) interlayer coupling in ferromagnetic La_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)MnO_3/SrRuO_3(LSMO/SRO) superlattices grown on(111)-oriented SrTiO_3 substrate. Unlike the(001) superlattices for which the spin alignment between LSMO and SRO is antiparallel in the in-plane direction and parallel in the out-of-plane direction, the antiparallel alignment is observed along both the in-plane and out-of-plane directions in the present sample. The low temperature hysteresis loop demonstrates two-step magnetic processes, indicating the coexistence of magnetically soft and hard components. Moreover, an inverted hysteresis loop was observed. Exchange bias tuned by the temperature and cooling field was also investigated, and positive as well as negative exchange bias was observed at the same temperature with the variation of the cooling field. A very large exchange field(H_(EB)) was observed and both magnitude and sign of the H_(EB)depend on the cooling field, which can be attributed to an interplay of Zeeman energy and AFM coupling energy at the interfaces. The present work shows the great potential of tuning a spin texture through interfacial engineering for the complex oxides whose spin state is jointly determined by strongly competing mechanisms.

The cause of asthenozoospermia(AZS)is not well understood because of its complexity and *** some gene mutations have been identified as contributing factors,they are only responsible for a small number of *** spokes(RSs)are critical for adenosine triphosphate-driven flagellar beating and axoneme stability,which is essential for flagellum *** this study,we found novel compound heterozygous mutations in leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 23(LRRC23;c.1018C>T:p.Q340X and c.881_897 Del:p.R295Gfs*32)in a proband from a nonconsanguineous family with AZS and male ***-Quik staining and scanning electron microscopy revealed no abnormal sperm *** blotting and immunofluorescence staining showed that these mutations suppressed LRRC23 expression in sperm ***,transmission electron microscopy showed the absence of RS3 in sperm flagella,which disrupts stability of the radial spoke complex and impairs *** in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer,the proband’s spouse achieved successful pregnancy and delivered a healthy *** conclusion,our study indicates that two novel mutations in LRRC23 are associated with AZS,but successful fertility outcomes can be achieved by in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer techniques.

Two-dimensional electron gases(2 DEGs)formed at the interface between two oxide insulators present a promising platform for the exploration of emergent *** most of the previous works focused on SrTiO_(3-)based 2 DEGs,here we took the amorphous-ABO_(3)/KTaO_(3)system as the research object to study the relationship between the interface conductivity and the redox property of B-site metal in the amorphous *** criterion of oxide-oxide interface redox reactions for the B-site metals,Zr,Al,Ti,Ta,and Nb in conductive interfaces was revealed:the formation heat of metal oxide,ⅢH_(f)^(o),is lower than-350 kJ/(mol O)and the work function of the metalΦis in the range of 3.75 eV<Φ<4.4 ***,we found that the smaller absolute value ofⅢH_(f)^(o)and the larger value ofΦof the B-site metal would result in higher mobility of the two-dimensional electron gas that formed at the corresponding amorphous-ABO_(3)/KTaO_(3)*** finding paves the way for the design of high-mobility all-oxide electronic devices.

Although microsurgical vasoepididymostomy(MVE)is an effective treatment for epididymal obstructive azoospermia,some patients may experience delayed patency or suboptimal semen parameters after ***,research into patency time,semen quality postpatency,and associated influencing factors remains *** study aimed to address these issues by evaluating 181 patients who underwent at least one-sided MVE employing asingle-armed longitudinal intussusception vasoepididymostomy technique,with a follow-up period of over 12 months for 150 *** overall patency rate was 75.3%,with 86.0%of patients achieving patency within 6 months following ***,factors such as age,history of epididymitis,duration of surgery,side of anastomosis,sperm motility in epididymal fluid,and the site of anastomosis showed no correlation with patency ***,our univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis indicated that only the site of anastomosis was positively correlated with and could independently predict postoperative total motile sperm ***,the site of anastomosis might serve as a predictor for optimal postoperative semen quality following the MVE procedure.

The electric gating on the transport properties of two-dimensional electron gas(2DEG) at the interface of LaAlO_(3)/SrTiO_(3)(LAO/STO) heterostructure has attracted great research interest due to its potential application in fieldeffect devices. Most of previous works of gate effect were focused on the LAO/STO heterostructure containing only one conductive interface. Here, we systematically investigated the gate effect on high-quality LAO/STO superlattices(SLs)fabricated on the TiO_(2)-terminated(001) STO substrates. In addition to the good metallicity of all SLs, we found that there are two types of charge carriers, the majority carriers and the minority carriers, coexisting in the SLs. The sheet resistance of the SLs with a fixed thickness of the LAO layer increases monotonically as the thickness of the STO layer increases. This is derived from the dependence of the minority carrier density on the thickness of STO. Unlike the LAO/STO heterostructure in which minority and majority carriers are simultaneously modulated by the gate effect, the minority carriers in the SLs can be tuned more significantly by the electric gating while the density of majority carriers is almost invariable. Thus, we consider that the minority carriers may mainly exist in the first interface near the STO substrate that is more sensitive to the back-gate voltage, and the majority carriers exist in the post-deposited STO layers. The SL structure provides the space separation for the multichannel conduction in the 2 DEG, which opens an avenue for the design of field-effect devices based on LAO/STO heterostructure.

It has been shown clinically that continuous removal of ischemia/reperfusion-induced reactive oxygen species is not conducive to the recovery of late ***,previous studies have shown that excessive increases in hypochlorous acid after stroke can cause severe damage to brain *** previous studies have found that a small amount of hypochlorous acid still exists in the later stage of stroke,but its specific role and mechanism are currently *** simulate stroke in vivo,a middle cerebral artery occlusion rat model was established,with an oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation model established in vitro to mimic *** found that in the early stage(within 24 hours)of ischemic stroke,neutrophils produced a large amount of hypochlorous acid,while in the recovery phase(10 days after stroke),microglia were activated and produced a small amount of hypochlorous ***,in acute stroke in rats,hypochlorous acid production was prevented using a hypochlorous acid scavenger,taurine,or myeloperoxidase inhibitor,4-aminobenzoic acid *** results showed that high levels of hypochlorous acid(200μM)induced neuronal apoptosis after oxygen/glucose deprivation/***,in the recovery phase of the middle cerebral artery occlusion model,a moderate level of hypochlorous acid promoted the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells into neurons and *** suggests that hypochlorous acid plays different roles at different phases of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** levels of hypochlorous acid(5 and 100μM)promoted nuclear translocation ofβ-*** transfection of single-site mutation plasmids,we found that hypochlorous acid induced chlorination of theβ-catenin tyrosine 30 residue,which promoted nuclear ***,our study indicates that maintaining low levels of hypochlorous acid plays a key role in the recovery of neurological function.
