OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the protective effect of Shouzhangshen(Rhizoma Gymnadeniae Crassinervidis)extract against acute high altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury in ***:Sixty C57BL/6J mice were selected and assigned to six groups(n=10):normal control group,low-pressure hypoxia group,positive control group(dexamethasone 500 mg/kg),and three groups treated with Shouzhangshen extract(250,500,and 750 mg/kg,respectively).The Morris water maze test was performed to evaluate alterations in spatial learning and memory *** staining was performed to detect Nissl bodies and neuron ***-inducible factor(HIF)-1α,interleukin(IL)-1β,tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α,vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),and malondialdehyde(MDA)expression in brain tissue and serum,as well as superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione(GSH)activity in brain tissues were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays,quantitative real-time-polymerase chain reaction and western ***:The Morris water maze test results showed that Shouzhangshen extract can significantly reduce the latency and swimming distance to escape onto a visible platform,increase neuron density and hierarchy and the number of pyramidal neurons,and decrease the expression of HIF-1α,IL-1β,TNF-α,and VEGF mRNAs and proteins in both brain tissue and serum(P0.05).CONCLUSION:Our findings suggest that Shouzhangshen extract may have a significant effect on acute high altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury in mice.

AIM： To evaluate the therapeutic effect of fluorofenidone on disrupted blood-retinal barrier in the diabetic mice and uncover its underlying mechanism. METHODS： db/db mice were randomly chosen for treatment with daily doses of fluorofenidone or placebo at 5-week-old, treatment continued until mice reach 24-week- old. Then, expression of transcriptiona factor insulin gene enhancer binding protein-1 （Islet-I） and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in murine retinas were evaluated. Retinal vascular permeability was assessed by examining the level of albumin in db/db murine retinas. Furthermore, the retinal vessel tight junction was estimated by checking the level of occludin in the murine retinal tissues. RESULTS： After occurrence of diabetic retinopthy in db/ db mice, expressions of transcritpional factor Islet-1 was found to be upregulated in db/db murine retinas compared with non-diabetic controls. Similar to expression pattern of Islet-l, VEGF were also demonstrated to be increased in retinas of db/db mice, which was accompanied by increased retinal vascular leakage and decreased tight junction protein level. Systemetic administration of fluorofenidone repaired broken retinal vascular tight junction by restoring occludin expression in db/db retinal tissue. Consequently, retinal vascular premeability were indicated to be reduced by examining the transudative albumin level in diabetic retinal tissues. Both Islet-1 and VEGF expression were inhibited in the retinas of db/db mice after treatment with fluorofenidone. CONCLUSION： Fluorofenidone significantly protectes retinal tight junction and reduces retinal vascular leakage. The phenomenon can be partially attributed to reducing overexpression of Islet-1 and VEGF in diabetic retinal tissues.

Aragonite is a metastable mineral,which is easily transformed into calcite,and generally difficult to preserve in the ***,large amounts of aragonites were found in the Paleogene shale of the Jiyang *** characteristics and preservation mechanisms of these aragonites were analyzed through a series of analytical methods,including cathodoluminescence,field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS),microarea carbon and oxygen isotopes,Sr isotopes,and dissolution simulation experiments under high temperature and high *** research results show that:(1)Aragonite in the Paleogene shale of the Jiyang Depression is related to algal microbial fossils,primarily composed of coccoliths and characterized by two emission peaks at 420 nm and 480 nm in cathodoluminescence;(2)The primary factor allowing biological aragonite to be preserved is the immaturity of the organic matter and the deficiency of abundant organic acids necessary for its dissolution or transformation,which is confirmed by the evidence of organic matter maturity and simulation experiments of organic acid dissolution on aragonite under high-temperature and high-pressure *** factors that may aid in the preservation of aragonite are the ideal sedimentation conditions,the defense of organic coating,and the enclosed environment with tiny pores,low porosity,and low permeability;(3)These aragonite-rich shales,characterized by coccolithophores,provide a solid evidence for seawater intrusion into terrestrial lake basin,and have a significant implication for the source and storage of shale oil.

Objective To study on the role of thymus transplantation for heart allograft in rats. Methods Vascularized heart-thymus combined transplantation was performed with microsurgical technique. Graft survival, histopathology, level of IL-2, IL-4 and its mRNA expression in serum and cardiac grafts were investigated. Results Heart-thymus combined transplantation achieved effect in the prolongation of cardiac graft survival with short-term administration of cyclosporine. Conclusions Vascularized thymus transplantation induced immune tolerance in thymectomized rats.

Seoul virus(SEOV), which is predominantly carried by Rattus norvegicus, is one of the major causes of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) in China. Hubei province, located in the central south of China, has experienced some of the most severe epidemics of HFRS. To investigate the mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA)-based phylogenetics of wild rats in Hubei, and the relationship with SEOV infection, 664 wild rats were captured from five trapping sites in Hubei from2000–2009 and 2014–2015. Using reverse-transcription(RT)-PCR, 41(6.17%) rats were found to be positive for SEOV infection. The SEOV-positive percentage in Yichang was significantly lower than that in other areas. The mt DNA D-loop and cytochrome b(cyt-b) genes of 103 rats were *** these animals, 37 were SEOV-positive. The reconstruction of the phylogenetic relationship(based on the complete D-loop and cyt-b sequences) allowed the rats to be categorized into two lineages, R. norvegicus and Rattus nitidus, with the former including the majority of the rats. For both the D-loop and cyt-b genes, 18 haplotypes were identified. The geographic distributions of the different haplotypes were significantly different. There were no significant differences in the SEOVpositive percentages between different haplotypes. There were three sub-lineages for the D-loop,and two for cyt-b. The SEOV-positive percentages for each of the sub-lineages did not significantly differ. This indicates that the SEOV-positive percentage is not related to the mt DNA D-loop or cyt-b haplotype or the sub-lineage of rats from Hubei.

Polystyrene-styrene/butadiene diblock copolymers were synthesized via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer （RAFT） miniemulsion *** the polymerization process,the molecular weight distribution was narrow and the numerical molecular weight of the copolymers increased with increasing conversion of monomers,which was close to the ***-IR and ^1H NMR results indicated that the microstructure of the polymer was mainly 1,4-trans-butadiene with small amount of 1,2-units,and composition in the copolymers was obtained.
